Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn - Ranulf/Black Knight Conversation in Ch. 3-7 (Rivals Collide)

Spoilers ahead, be warned!
Ranulf actually kinda spoils the identity of the Black Knight in chapter 3-7, however, nobody is crazy enough to have Ranulf take on the Black Knight on their first playtrough. However, I like this hint more than Ranulf's spoiler at the beginning of part 4. By the way, this is also a hint to the fact that the Black Knight is one of the branded.

I hate how he tells Ike before part 4, he's just like "oh btw Zelgius is the Black Knight" and runs off. Reveal should of been on the chapter you fight him.

How can he smell the Black Knight when a major aspect of the Branded is that Laguz cannot smell them?

You may be confusing Branded with laguz who have lost their powers after having kids with a beorc. Laguz actually have an instinct that can detect the Branded, which is part of why it's easier for them to live among beorc than laguz. People like Almedha, beorc who have lost their power, have "no distinct scent" according to Tibarn. He says about her "It's as if she's neither beorc nor laguz."

Idk where you learned that from. The Laguz can sense Branded but elect to shun and ignore them.

They could if they tried to. But many aren't as clever as Ranulf and simply don't pay attention to it.

He said it in Part 4 himself: He needed to make sure.
I can understand his position too as a true friend, it was an unbelievable theory that he's the same person and it was a very personal matter to Ike. He only told him when there was finally time to reflect so he's not distracted by the revelation.
