Fun fact! The game really wants you to have two Daedalus hammers by the end of your run (not counting Charon’s anvil in Styx). So if you encounter a door with a hammer and a door with, say, a Hermes boon or a desperately needed centaur heart, feel free not to choose the hammer. If you don’t have two Daedalus upgrades by the time you complete an area of the underworld, one usually shows up in the shop. So yes, the hammers are important, but if you see something else you’d rather have, go for it! Unless you deliberately ignore the hammers, it’s pretty much impossible not to get two of them by the end of your run.
JT Gwozdz It’s the thing that costs 275 obols in Charon’s Styx shop. It’s at the top-right of his wares. It automatically removes one random hammer upgrade you have and then at the same time gives you two new hammer upgrades (again, randomly chosen)
I think I underestimated Hermes in the early runs, either the extra dash boon or the one that increases movement speed is such a huge help for the final boss.
I'm telling you, whenever I'm buying a new game, I'm having fun with it for a couple hours then taking a break, and repeating that process over the next days. With Hades its the same, but with like 5 hours in a row insted. I'm not using my PC for anything else, lol.
This game pisses me off to no end, and has me screaming at my TV....and then Zagreus calmly rises from the pool of blood, and I mutter to myself, "Just one more run." THAT is why this game has it's hooks in me right now
A little tip for your build creation : you can have only 4 gods (excluding hermes) on a single run, meaning that once yoy've picked 4 boons from 4 different gods, you can't have boons from other gods (say that you took a boon from zeus, poseidon, athena and demeter, you will not be able to get boons from dionysus, ares, aphrodite or artemis).
@@LegacyGamingUS because it isnt. you can have boons from more than 4 but the game will give heavier weight to gods that you have boons from (i.e. if you have ares, artemis, zeus and poseidon, youre more likely to find their boons again so you can make a build with their boons). i think her may be referring to the game having only 4 skill set boons but you can still get other auxiliary boons like revenge damage, artemis abse crit buff, ares all damage buff, demeter/dinosyus fountain buff, etc.
That little green blob girl, (Desus? Or something).. her upgrade put health in urns. I found it better than the tooth bcuz it prevents dying to begin with.
Here's a tip for bow players: attacking right after dashing makes your attack charge faster. This is REALLY important if you ever wanna finish a run with the fourth aspect of the bow!
@@4cmd it does, but no matter how many times I did the dash attack for the bow I never noticed a difference with the regular attack until someone pointed it out for me
@@PistolPete1251 Hollow is just a worse Ori, kind of weird metroidvania, and is not that satisfying, I still like Hollow Knight, but that game doesnt,, scream" into my head,, joy". It was fun, but not every part of it. Meanwhile in Hades, you are glad that you even die because even the dying in this game is enjoyable
Theres a fated choice logo next to the boons you havent chosen yet. Hunt these for prophecy rewards. They are also on the boon list you can bring up. Its helpful when planning for duo boons
And the Codex Index required for the boon list of each god to appear in the Codex requires finding (or accepting) at least one from each types of boons (normal, rare, epic, heroic, legendary, duo). Then the Codex Index will appear in the Contractor's list. I might be wrong, though, especially about the "rare, epic, heroic, legendary" parts.
One of my favorite strats is starting with Cthonic Coinpurse (Hypnos’s keepsake) giving a head start on gold then switching to skelly’s tooth after the first boss.
Much more forgiving than a lot of recent roguelikes. You WILL get something from each run, rather than having to get to certain checkpoints or rooms in oprder to make perma upgrades.
@@hendrickyoung5359basically every rouge like ever.. not sure if you're kidding or genuinely curious but hades is probably pretty easily the easiest roguelike I've ever played. It doesn't even step to hard roguelikes such as Issac or Dead cells, imo it's not even as hard as say gungeon or cotl.
same, everytime i go through Cyberpunk i would always quit after an hour and play Hades for several hours to lift my mood, like cleansing my palate lmao
I out 100 hard hours into that game, just picked this up on switch and remembering what fun gameplay mechanics is again. Don't hate cp2077, it's okay, but goddam this game is polished and fun. Aaaand back to Hades.
2:03 "Personally, I always start with an Athena boon" I did so too at first, but it was a rookie mistake. The start of the game is the worst possible time to wear Athena's Keepsake. The best starting Athena boons are Divine Dash (large-area Deflect) and Phalanx Cast (massive AoE damage). Until all 5 "standard" Boon slots (Attack, Special, Call, Cast, or Dash) are filled, the game will offer you the Boons to fill empty slots. And if you don't block the Attack, Special, and Call with other gods' Boons, your chances of getting Dash or Cast from Athena will be 20% each rather than 50%.
You can actually give Nectar to Chaos. The Keepsake you get from this, when equipped, lets you enter a chaos gate without spending health. Since boons from Chaos are the best in the game provided you can survive the debuff period, definitely equip this if you're serious about chasing power. Also a reason to consider passing up a Daedalus hammer: Some of the offers can drastically change your moveset, such as the sword's basic attack being a slow and heavy downward chop, or turning your Adamant Rail into a shotgun with melee range and reduced ammo. If you're getting ready to fight satyrs in Styx, maybe now isn't a good time to find out what that fated choice option does.
When talking about keepsakes I think it's really good to mention Dusa's feather duster. It has a certain % chance to drop HP when breaking urns. It has gotten me pretty far.
For early game, unlock the Rail gun ASAP and slap as many Artemis crit boons/Support Fire and any Daedalus ammo/speed up boons and you'll clear out rooms in seconds. If you go even further and get the Deflecting Dash on top of that, or go for the 300% special Nuke from a Daedalus hammer, you become an untouchable walking arsenal.
I prefer the triple bomb instead of 300% that may hurt you. You can use the second aspect that when using the bomb on you increases damage by 15/30/45/60 % (depending on your aspect lvl)
I will give the single most important thing someone can learn. Give the skeleton outiside the room nectar and use his gift only when you are low hp in the begining of a new zone or after elysium. Oh and also upgrade full death defiance and dash first
1) Now for how to cheese the game: get enough titan blood to fully upgrade your sword. 2) Get Excalibur 3) trigger special once and press attack till bad man goes away 4) collect all the attack upgrades(artemis for attack, preferably) 5)get to 400 health 6) face tank Daddy without sweat
I don't worry about upgrading my Health past 100 since that's the most you get back for the next life. Play defensively and you don't have to worry about health as much
Thanks for the tip! I use Excalibur in combination with the Lambent Plume. So I clear the room fast for that dodge chance. Get the Hermes boon to make my special faster. And last time I had a boon of Artemis so that my attack had a chance to deal critical damage. All this + support fire = arrows and damage everywhere. Got to try getting more health next time with this build
0:28 This! There really is no secret to beating (not finishing) the game. I upgraded my death defiance to +3 and funnily enough the first time I beat Hades, I didn't even die the whole run. You kinda just get better the more you play. There's still so much more to do after you beat him once though.
Happened to download this just before my father passed and started playing it on Bereavment. What a great game to explore a lot of those feelings with. Another note was that I spent 40 days with Lost Ark before playing Hades and it reminded me why MMO elements are just not fun. Everyone talks about the combat in LA but Hades is better without all the time wasting stuff.
Yeah unlock your mirror as fast as you can. Honestly some of the later options not shown in the video get so powerful. Like one where you get a % damage boost for at least 2 buffs on an enemy at the same time. It sherds late game cause by then you will have this no problem, and like 20% extra damage on any boss fight will help you. Also get in the habit of looking ahead boon wise. Go to the codex and compare when you have the option of 2 or more boons. Unless you have memorized every one, you should be looking to see what you can upgrade and looking at all possible synergies. It may seem boring at first, but it makes finding and going for synergies that much easier. Also don't get salty when you die lol. Focus on meta progression and experimentation if you hit a wall.
note @ 6:00 to avoid confusion - other characters use they/them to refer to Chaos, not he/him. They're referred to in the game as "both a mother and a father" so this distinction is pretty important lore-wise
I made the mistake of entering a Chaos Gate before a boss once. Got a boon that halved my speed for the next three encounters just before Theseus and Asterius. Needless to say, I didnt survive.
@@ImmortalNaitsirhc For example if you get +20% from the Pierced Butterfly, but then you take it off mid-run, you lose that 20% bonus. You have to continue to use the keepsake for the buff!
HADES starter pack tip: get the keys first - get the bow/shield - give nectar to ares for keepsake - doom on your special - and just like that it's a walk in the park
@@beatshack I'm on my 90th escape attempt actually and the strongest I've used so far was the Zeus/Poseidon duo. But before any of that, DOOM took care of everything.. I've not met anyone who survived DOOM even on high heat levels. It's broken!😂😂😂
wow this advice is no joke. I had never beaten the elysium duo bosses before. Got an early ares boon, so gave him a nectar and put on his keepsake in asphodel. Then managed to escape, beating the final boss on my first try! Athena's call + ares synergy is even crazier, pop that call and get 5 free point blank bow special backstabs for maximum damage. Why is it good on the shield? Because you can apply it from range?
@@RaidsEpicly yes.. and if you're lucky enough, which is almost always, get the daedalus "bounce 3 or 4 times on special" .. it's over! all you do is right click and dash.. you don't even need to look at the screen..🤣🤣🤣
Excellent video, I wish I'd found it sooner. I have 60 hours on Hades and I was still unaware of some of this information. You have my gratitude and I wish your Channel continued success.
Killer combo: the sword, with the hammer upgrades Cursed Slash (+2 health per attack) and Furry Slash (quick attack). Get an Athena deflect boon on attack. Boom, you're invincible. Hold the attack button and go to town.
I got something similar to this on like my 3rd time playing the game, I made it all the way to the 3rd level boss within the first hour of booting up the game for the first time. I've never found that Cursed Slash since that time.
Hades is fantastic and totally addictive. Just recently got it on switch and i cant put it down. Definitely one of my favorite indies along with Dead Cells and Hollow Knight.
They are not really extra, just alternatives (only one - green or violet - can be active at a time for each row). I feel that this is important to mention.
To anyone reading these comments looking for more tips, I find using hermes dash sprint boon is very useful, it gives you 0.5 secs of immunity after dashing but you can chain them and also it boosts speed by 100% for that time so you move much faster whilst being more defensive, also zeus lightning dash can get very powerful with this combination, also to those who are trying to get more cash/essence/gems quicker sometimes posiden gives some useful % boosts on pickups and also drops, I got 60% boost then I got him again and chose the rewards bundle and got a bunch of stuff including some nectar
My tip to get better at Hades is *equip the pierced butterfly* . When you are incentivized to not get a single damage you really start to improve your game. It really made a big difference for me.
At the end of the game or the final dungeon or level of underworld, Charon will be there and he'll sell some diamonds and titans blood for about 1200 coins, so if you save enough coins you'll be having having easy time getting upgrades for your weapons or for the underworld itself
I always run the keepsake that makes it cost no health to enter the chaos place and gives higher rarity chance, then will swap to the lucky tooth after the first boss
I found this game on sale on steam like a week ago or so... I can strongly say that is as adictive as cocaine. What a great game. I keep dying in elysum and the boss there is insane hard. I love the fact that the first levels when you die gives you a false "This is going to be easy" sensation, but I've died in tartarus a couple of times just for feeling too secure and stoped paying attention. Oh god I love this game and I will def buy hades 2
Alright so i would not choose to get Athena at the start. Instead try to get the keepsake that gives you bonus damage (Thanatos) or dodge chance (Hermes). If you get used to the gameplay, you can get a lot of buffs from the first area since the amount of enemies is quite low. Second spend you nectar! Give it to everyone, not only does it give you new stories to discover but people will give you stuff. For example, you need to get your rank almost maxed out with certain characters in order to get the legendary keepsakes (the keepsakes that are at the bottom of your collection). For the third item, upgrade your mirror until you have 3 resurrections. This is huge for getting further in the game and can make your run more forgiving. And for the final item, get gems to make upgrades using the contractor. This can add gold cans to encounters, give you bonus health, infernal cashes contain more reward, ... Although only start doing this after you mirror is upgraded.
Just got to a room in the first level where I had to choose between Athena and Artemis and I choose Athena’s boon cause I like the reflect dash, Artemis of course got pissed, but after surviving her little aoe attacks the combination between hers and Athena’s boons carried me all the way to my first Minotaur encounter, I love it
Start your run with the coin purse and then switch at the end of the first level to the bone hourglass budgeting correctly you should have lots of well blessings for the rest of the run. but take it off right before the final level and equip something else. either a god specific boon or something to help defense. There is a hierarchy of value in the rewards you get. New players don't realize it but gems are the worst reward in the game to chose. 5 gems for a room when it's 10 gems for a key...and keys are also a terrible reward that quickly loses most of it's value after you have unlocked the weapons and mirror upgrades. Nectar however is the best common repeatable reward and should always be chosen when it's available, unless there is a Daedalus hammer. if you upgrade the proper contract you can also get a +1 to a random boon when you pickup nectar. which is the same as a small pom slice. Some boons may seem underwhelming but have several associated boons that you unlock by having it that are far more powerful. But beware as occasionally you can upgrade yourself with something that makes you less effective in combat. for example I had the trident/spear weapon and was doing great until I found an upgrade that said "your dash strike with hit 3 times but your dash distance is reduced" it completely unmade a perfect run as I could no longer get away from enemies like brightswords that tend to hunt down slower players. hadn't taken a hit before I picked it up. I burned through 4 lives and was dead before the end of that same level. (Elysium)
No one mention it but, key, gems nectar are become very valuable letter when you have access to trade it, it on the room where kitchem reside basically you can swith those item with somethinh more valuable like titan blood, i think the trade goes like this Trade key for gems Trade gams for diamond Trade diamond for some kind nectar? Finally Trade that nectar to titan blood The point is, you can have titan blood, with a bunch of key and gems
When choosing boons, I think you can open up your journal that Achilles gave you and check the gods you’ve encountered and there should be a list of their boons and which ones unlock stronger boons. You might need to unlock the ability to see the list of boons; I can’t remember. Probably from the contractor.
The ability to load your cast into the bow is incredible. Does insane damage against any enemy, and loading all 3 at once and shooting it can sometimes even one shot the exalted’s
I recently had a run where my cast was so OP I stopped using my weapon. Lmao. It was: Slicing shot v3, Black Metal v2, Engulfing vortex, Vicious cycle, Hunting blades. Basically huge spirals of death seeking enemies and pulling them in, doing extra damage with each consecutive hit. Actual broken build. Hades fight was like 2 minutes
Here's a tip- choose permanent rewards over rewards for a single run, at least at first. What I mean by this is that Darkness, Gems, Keys & Nectar are all permanent, while coins, Boons & Centaur Hearts are only for use for your current escape attempt. So, instead of working towards an escape that is almost impossible with your current equipment, take a few runs to simply collect currency, & when you feel you are prepared, start the run & this time only go for Boons. However, seeing as the preparation will take up most of your playtime, you should also take the time to see the Boons of each God, obtain the keepsakes of your favourite Gods, & use their Boons to help you last longer. You should have plenty of time to do this, as with my current experience, I was in many situations where I had no choice but to enter a room containing a Boon, as there were no permanent currency related rooms available. Hope this helped a little bit
Really surprised you mentioned the keys on the mirror and not the fact that each one has an alternate (green and orange)... seems way easier to miss. I was most of the way through my first run when a buddy pointed it out to me, and the 60% darkness to hp vs 3hp a room is probably the only reason I beat it in under 40 runs. MUCH easier to miss than the big key button with a number next to it
i'm 30 hours deep and reading your comment and remembering the GREEN??? and orange text in the vid made me turn on my PS5 immediately and check for myself and holy shit, there's a whole other list of options! and i was just running out of motivation to keep playing, i love it when a developer bakes in so much so deep that i can think i've done everything, 30 hours deep and wonder how people are still playing at 170 and 200 hours and then i watch a vid, read some comments and boom! thanks for taking the time to type that comment
Walked down a long dark hallway in Bloodborne that turned out to be a dead end with just a message on the floor. It said, "Be Wary of Inquisitiveness."
Daedalus Hammer Tips: You can only get ONE between Tartarus and Asphodel. If you pull a hammer in Tartarus, one cannot show up in Asphodel, so don't try rolling rooms looking for one. Once you get to Elysium, you have the chance of pulling a second. If for some reason you don't have two by the time you hit the Temple, then you can get one here as well, but Elysium really seems like it just wants to throw one at you as soon as you show up.
I discovered you could switch perks at the mirror of night after 20 runs, so yeah, you are not the only one. At least it's easy to reset how you spend your points there.
This game is good. I thought I was over it until I picked it up again. One tip I learned is that the bow is a little less forgiving than other weapons. (Strangely enough the shield is what I first beat the game with.) I recommend charging dodge shots. Quick shots aren’t gonna cut it. Also making sure to upgrade the hell out of your special and grabbing doom/chain shot effects is absolutely a good idea. Especially in Elysium.
Im 60 hours in and figured id look up some videos of stuff i may be missing. I knew all of it however the tip of looking up the strongest boons, to learn how to make them in future runs was a fantastic tip. Great video. Sub'd
deflect dash is the easiest one to say is among top tier, but poseidon for raw damage, zeus if youre looking for a double strike build, and aphrodite/demeter/dinosyus (in that order) if youre looking for a debuff with just one boon. a special mention for artemis if youre looking to do shotgun build with gun aspect.
I always focus on Dionysus and Poseidon so I can get the Exclusive Access Duo Boon ASAP. That basically guarantees I end up with the best boons at the end. After that, I try and get Cursed Slash from the Daedalus hammer. That health regeneration is clutch.
In original Greek mythology "Chaos" or "Abyss" wasn't even a person it was just a void state preceding the creation of the universe. It's a concept from the Theogony of Hesiod.
Yeah Chaos is also referred to as “they/them” whenever the characters mention their name. Looks like this RUclipsr either didn’t care to get it right or he just overlooked it
Once you've acclimated to the game, starting with Poseidon's Keepsake and re-rolling off the bat until you get Tidal Dash. No other single boon does as much epic work as Tidal Dash. The range is bigger than any other dash attack. Its base dmg is higher than any other, and can get bonus damage from knocking enemies into walls or pillars or corners. Don't even get me started on permanent applying Razor Shoals, the most-reliable source of heavy DoT. Knock baddies into spikes, lava, the knight statues on Elysium, the saw blades in Styx. Poseidon is #1. I've done full weaponless runs that do not ever use my weapon. Dash and cast only. Try it. Poseidon is the best.
Awesome tips. Hades is by far, my favorite indie/roguelike game, if not the best (and addicting) 2020 game of all! Supergiant Games made their "Mona Lisa" (work of art), with this game. Thank you!
Yes, as others have pointed out I made a mistake here. It wasn’t my intention to upset anyone, just a lack of understanding and awareness on my part. I will strive to be better in the future.
-I think poseidon's tidal dash boon usually appears when you equip the sword, and pairing them with some other multi-damage boons (stuff that hits multiple enemies at once, like zeus' lightning and another one of artemis' boons) let's you clear out areas SO quickly. (-most "dash and the enemies around you get damaged" boons are just really, really useful. homing stuff too) -gift skelly nectar! it's like having death defiance but better -try not to use all of your coin in charon's shop right before a boss battle. sometimes there's an option that allows you to get death defiance again in the area after the battle, but you need around 200 coins for it (in the case that you end up dying during the battle).
Don’t underestimate the Mirror. Greater Reflex and Death Defiance are probably among the most important upgrades in the entire game Also, idk if the uploaded is even gonna read my dumb comment, but it’s awesome that you’ve put so much time into Dead Cells! You sound like a carbon copy of me to be perfectly honest! I’ve got almost 400 hours in Dead Cells. It’s a wonderful game especially if you like platformers

Solid tip, had no idea this was a set rule!
you can change to a keepsake to avoid this, just had a run with 6x5% dmg bonus from the nyx mirror

Here's a tip for bow players: attacking right after dashing makes your attack charge faster. This is REALLY important if you ever wanna finish a run with the fourth aspect of the bow!
it tells you the moveset of every weapon when you equip it in the weapon chamber

One of my favorite strats is starting with Cthonic Coinpurse (Hypnos’s keepsake) giving a head start on gold then switching to skelly’s tooth after the first boss.
Chthonic Coinpurse pairs really well with the Deep Pockets talent to make sure you can buy what you need for a run.
Much more forgiving than a lot of recent roguelikes. You WILL get something from each run, rather than having to get to certain checkpoints or rooms in oprder to make perma upgrades.

2:03 "Personally, I always start with an Athena boon"
I did so too at first, but it was a rookie mistake.
Not at this time. I'm quite busy. Give Jay a call. Do you have his number?

Dusa gang
Yup. She helped me beat Hades on my 14th run. The extra bit of health is always helps.
Sadly you can only level it up to 6% but thats still not bad
Yes, it‘s a great help for beginners I feel. The more skilled you get at dodging the more practical become other keepsakes imo.
Dusa best waifu
For early game, unlock the Rail gun ASAP and slap as many Artemis crit boons/Support Fire and any Daedalus ammo/speed up boons and you'll clear out rooms in seconds. If you go even further and get the Deflecting Dash on top of that, or go for the 300% special Nuke from a Daedalus hammer, you become an untouchable walking arsenal.
I prefer the triple bomb instead of 300% that may hurt you. You can use the second aspect that when using the bomb on you increases damage by 15/30/45/60 % (depending on your aspect lvl)
Rail gun????
Its an unlockable weapon after you unlock the fist.
for real though, support fire is so freaking good. all that free crowd control and extra dps.
I will give the single most important thing someone can learn. Give the skeleton outiside the room nectar and use his gift only when you are low hp in the begining of a new zone or after elysium. Oh and also upgrade full death defiance and dash first
or spiked collar if you have 3 death defiances remaining
Keep in mind if you're trying to use the tooth keep sake to save losing a death defiance, the keepsakes effect gets used last, not first.
1) Now for how to cheese the game: get enough titan blood to fully upgrade your sword.
2) Get Excalibur
3) trigger special once and press attack till bad man goes away
4) collect all the attack upgrades(artemis for attack, preferably)
5)get to 400 health
6) face tank Daddy without sweat
400?! 😳😳😳

Great tips! Thanks so much for sharing 👍🏻
Also the contractor can make your room a cool color, and everybody knows that makes you better at the game

Doing my first run through in Hades. Wow, this game is tough and it reels you back in. so far so good!
(Elysium)

Key rooms give you an additional fated authority or fated persuasion choice.
No one mention it but, key, gems nectar are become very valuable letter when you have access to trade it, it on the room where kitchem reside basically you can swith those item with somethinh more valuable like titan blood, i think the trade goes like this

isn't Chaos referred to by they/them? like this is some primordial ancient elder god, they don't have a gender

-I think poseidon's tidal dash boon usually appears when you equip the sword, and pairing them with some other multi-damage boons (stuff that hits multiple enemies at once, like zeus' lightning and another one of artemis' boons) let's you clear out areas SO quickly.
(-most "dash and the enemies around you get damaged" boons are just really, really useful. homing stuff too)
-gift skelly nectar! it's like having death defiance but better
