Is it possible to drive my 6 litre V12 BMW 760Li across the UK using only one tank of fuel? From the highest point in the UK (Ben Nevis, Scotland) to the tallest building (The Shard, London) all without a stop for fuel...

Hi man,
I really don't know if I should get one of these.
Should I get one of these? Are they truly a headache as the internet said? How expensive is it to maintain? Do you have a video about it? I watched almost every video you make on this car 😂. It looks so amazing!!
@groot6830no😂
Excellent video. That’s the best thing I’ve seen on RUclips for a long time. Didn’t think you’d make it. Did anyone else notice it only started raining when you got to Manchester? 😂
Thanks buddy! Haha good old Mancs weather 😂
Should you buy a Used BMW 760?
Yes, yes you should.
Great video and a new subscriber. Thanks to Matt for the Instagram reccomendation.
next up London to Scotland in the L322
Great Video. TV Quality in its production. Did you have to use the Jerry cans to get home from the Shard!?
Lol, in the vein of other replies (and with tongue firmly planted in cheek) ouch, as someone that lives 13 miles from Manchester, that hurt!
Best video you’ve made yet! Cannot imagine the effort gone into making this video, the planning, the cinematography, driving for 12 hours. You deserve far more subscribers than you have. Keep it up Joel!
Thank you !
In this car around 55 to 60mph is probably the most efficient. So on a long open road accelerating very slowly is actually less efficient as you are spending more time at less efficient speeds. It is much better to accelerate at a decent pace (obviously not very fast) up to 50 to 60 mph and then cruise there.
Efficient driving isn't driving slowly, its driving as close to the optimum speed as much as you can, the less braking the better, hit the corners hard!
Was going to mention this. I’ve found accelerating to 65mph in my fabia is better than slowly accelerating. As like you say you’re spending more time accelerating and more time and less efficient speeds
I've always heard this, that slow acceleration is not necessarily efficient or conserving acceleration for precisely the reasons you mentioned, staying in lower gears longer is going to use gas at a higher rate, just as slamming on the gas is going to have the same effect for the opposite reasons. Great tip!
Gentle acceleration up to around 20-30, then apply more throttle. Lightfoot taught me this
This reminds me of those top gear challenges with Jeremy clarkson and the rest... nostalgic.
Well done, an excellent video!
Reminded me of that too! The A8 challenge in particular
Top gear has had scripted, paid bullshit happening for many years, the whole show has been a joke for 15 years
@@kevpage still one of the most entertaining shows of all time, having impact on a lot of people, making jeremy, richard and james richer then god

@@alfredboehm5976 I can remember Top Gear back in the mid 70s well before Clarkson ,May ,Hammond was even thought of being on it ( even though a very young lol Clarkson and May did make the odd appearance on it ) and that's what it was a very drabbish boring consumer programme about motoring I think that's why back then it disappeared for a while until the late 80s .then as time went we got the TG we all know now
Wield looking Dude
I never, ever watch videos all the way through if they are longer than 15 minutes, but I watched this all the way! That was a brilliant video- well done!
Really appreciate it, thank you
Me too bro that was amazing
Reminds me of the old TG episode where Jezza went from London to Edinburgh and back to London again on a single tank in a V8 diesel Audi A8! Another cracking vid

or when they drove a grosser 600 into london
@@Birmingham_racing Yep as I said V8 diesel!
Absolutely brilliant! Loved it mate, especially the "BMW-Assistant" part; nailed it
Even tho that was ovbs done through the aux with another phone on the text to Siri speech thing it was still funny
I did Notts to Fort William 11 years ago in my '88 730i manual and j-u-s-t got 30 mpg. I filled up at that same Esso and worked it out. I also stayed at that same hotel and got the shits that night from the French onion soup. :-o
20 year old 6.0 V12 makes it from scotland to London on one recharge, yet brand new electric car runs out after 100 miles. Progress!

Cool! Never expected a 760 to reach that far.. as for the wipers: maybe rain-x as a sponsor for the next video??
I was going to say, next time coat the windshield with RainX to be safe.

Thanks for your help
Watched all the way through, absolutely cracking video. Its a massive testiment to the good old internal combustion engine. Bollocks to electric vehicles I say. I'm sure this took a lot of time and effort and it definitely shows, really impressive video from start to finish. The old 760 looks incredible.
Thanks so much , glad you enjoyed it. Haha they should start making V12s again!
Excellent video! Taking my E38 V12 on a 610 mile road trip this weekend and hoping to do it on one tank. This has given me hope! Nothing better than a V12 7 for a long trip.
That will be excellent! Let me know how you get on
I actually really liked the Skit , and I am an original Top Gear supporter from 2002. Well done Sir , love From South Africa
The production value of your videos have got so much better. The camera angles, cinematography and cringey jokes 😆. Keep it up mate!
Glad you’re noticing the effort, makes it all worth it. Thanks for the kind feedback & for tuning in
Often a misconception is, that by accelerating very slowly you can save fuel. Its essentially more efficient, to accelerate normally until you reach your rolling speed. You will spend more fuel for a shorter time this way, instead of accelerating slowly for a loooong time. Of course, doing nearly a burnout to get to 30 in 1sek isn't helping either. There's a sweet spot of acceleration, you have to find. Especially in these stop-n-go traffic this can save you a little bit more.
Nevertheless guys, well done job. Nice car, nice plan, well executed, congrats!
Never thought I'd watch a 36 minute video on a 7 series, only watch 15 minute videos usually and don't even get through those. I'd love to see more videos like this, you have earnt a subscriber!
What’s not to thoroughly enjoy, rare beast of a car, the likes of which might not be with us much longer, epic trip, tense challenge. I started watching a while ago when I was consider a Z4. Channel is 1st class. Keep up the exceptional work.
This HAS to be your BEST video YET!
One of the small pleasures in life, is being able to drive a "BMW" on a scenic route. I know these cars break, but still...that note of that V12 enjoying the beautiful leather...
Glorious!

"Have you ever driven in a third world country like Scotland" - Way to go Joel, how to win friends and influence people.
Joel's sarcasm is rather dry... But I hope it's clear from the video how much we enjoyed being in Scotland. It truly is a beautiful place and a seriously underrated driving destination!
Hehehehehe
I took it as intended, as a joke, which I hope is how others take it. Scotland is such a beautiful country, with some of the friendliest people and I don’t think Joel would have set up this challenge if he didn’t really love the place. Really envious of you being up there, as I’ve been to the exact area and it was spectacular. You did a superb job with that video, Joel, and I agree with other comments about the production quality and the content. Definitely on a par with Top Gear (which I loved), which is incredible, given the budget they had.

Thanks so much. Honestly felt so proud to have done it! Definitely another thing that’ll emotionally attach me to this car...
Great Vid :) I am a Cyclist, Car Driver, Motorcycle Rider, One thing you learn is that sometimes the total amount of energy spent vs speed vs overall travel time have no direct correlation. In-Town a Cyclist can travel 7 miles in less than 30 minutes, but a car can take 1 hour, a motorcycle 40 minutes because the bike can use parks etc. I like all forms of transport, but sometimes putting your foot down is fun ;) Lol Thanks Joel

The end with the tense music was a great touch, Joel. I studied abroad at Lancaster Uni when I was younger. My best British Mate, flew over here to the US a couple years ago (24 years after Lancaster Uni) and joined me, and we drove my old Lexus across old US Route 66. It was brilliant with a plush 2006 Lexus. He was actually very impressed with it’s engineering, as we drove between 9-12 hours a day for 11 days with no issues. In California, near Monument Valley, we drove for 12 hours one day with an average temperature of 108 degrees F outside (42.2C) and the car didn’t even move a micron on the hot/cold gauge. Luckily the US has legalized certain herbs in some of the States and it made the trip extra fun.
That sounds like a dream trip. I normally do a roadtrip from LA-PHX (where some of my family are) up to Vegas and back over LA every year and miss it... would love to drive across the states one day
@@itsjoel It was awesome. My British friend made sure we stuck to the original Route 66 as much as possible. People don’t realize that a lot of it has been replaced and the old highway runs parallel to the new highway. There were times where we were the only people in miles. And when we did see people, often it was Europeans doing a motorcycle journey across Route 66. Anyway I started watching you when I got my Z4 Coupe which I no longer have!

My 320d estate averages around 55mpg and it's a 2.0 bi-turbo 184hp. I am incredibly pleased with that, i can't imagine how you feel with a V12. 😁
This makes electric cars absolutely obsolete
The thing is, as an exercise its doable but to drive like he did, so slow, under the speed limit, always concerned about fuel is gonna drive people nuts, lol.

Definately your best video to date Joel, just goes to show it’s how you drive a car, not how big the engine is!
Great video Joel. Time for a little bit of a telling off, from me a BMW Barons Dealer Technician…
Never ever over-inflate a tire on any vehicle, the main reason being as the tire gets hotter and more friction between the road surface and tire occurs the air in the tire expands and it will go up by up to +7 psi than what it was inflated to.
In addition, with over inflation only the centre of the tire is making contact with the road surface, meaning it is dangerous to drive, especially in the wet weather and more prone to aqua planing.
Also as well it lowers your MPG as well because the entire friction material of the tire is not making contact and not performing as effectively as it should. As well you will get more tire wear in the centre of the tire, so always stick to the official BMW specified tire pressure.
Thanks for the info
Wow, I almost dont want to comment on this one, as I dont see it ending well... but I just have to. Hope we can get through this on friendly terms:
Where did you get this info? Almost all of it is... not very relevant to this occasion, and some things are plain wrong. I dont blame you, you are probably just repeating what you have been told. Nevertheless, here is why some things are not as they may be taught.
Firstly: Generally you shouldnt overinflate tires if you are not sure why you are doing it, but if you do, here are the real facts:
It is safe to overinflate tires by at least 20 lbs for normal driving on all normal tires. The pressure will increase, but the increase will be less the more pressure you have. The tolerance of tires is more than enough.
The lessened contact patch is not an issue in normal driving, or even during evasive manuevers. Cars driven by "security forces" usually overinflate tires by as much as 15 psi to get less tire roll when cornering during a panic situation.
Aquaplaning is better with more pressure, not worse. This is because the lessened contact patch gives more ground pressure, making the tire cut through the water film more effectively.
Overinflation gives more mpg, not less. That is because the less contact patch gives less friction and less sidewall deformation. The "friction material" of a tire doesnt work this way, there is no correlation between the factors contact patch and "friction material efficiency".
The last point, tire wear in the centre, is the only one that is partially true, but depending on the speed, even that might not be. IF you are driving very high speeds, the extra pressure counteracts some centrifugal force, making the center tire wear less.
I agree, stick with the recommended tire pressures if you are a normal driver, but the text above is for those who want to know a little bit more about how things work.
Dont take all this the wrong way even if I come across as abit curt. I am not the best at writing replys.
I will gladly elaborate on all points and answer questions if there are any. Cheers.
