A lot of transmissions adapt over time to allow for wear and driving style. I completely flushed my ATF and for that day and maybe the day after it could be really rough but it adapted to the new fluid
Hi Joel. Great vid again. I used to be a mechanic so my comments might help you with the BM Did the garage pull any fault codes out of the transmission, engine etc modules? These will be crucial to any diagnostics. You should do a reset of the transmission adaptions via the BMW dealer software now you gave changed the fluid and filter. There is a chat way of doing it by turning on the ignition with your foot all the way down on the accelerator pedal and hold for 30 seconds. Then turn the ignition off first and then take foot off of pedal. This will put the transmission into a reset mode and it will learn your driving habits. You should do this technique in any auto car you buy so it will learn your driving style rather than you using the previous owners style that the modules have learned. Hope this helps.
Did you do it according to service schedule or "belated"? I don't buy those super long intervals, e.g. 120.000 miles or so, so I am doing it after ca 1/3 or that. Cheaper than a new trans ;)
@@itsjoel About your spot under the nose - i had one on the side of my chest and got rid of it with a a wart freeze stick from EndWarts. It may look odd for 14 days, but than it is history. The price for the sticks is ca.15-20.
That pan was replaced in Jul 18 when I owned it, don't remember that at all but then again my memory's terrible! Good to see you all doing right by the car Joel, still miss it. In terms of content, one thing I always wanted to do but never did was to do a proper grand tour and take the family down to the south of France, via Millau Bridge, Lake Garda, Stelvio Pass, the Swiss tunnels etc. I always felt it was the perfect car for that sort of trip and wanted to see if it would breeze through it as well as I suspected. Would make epic content.
I've taken my 760Li on the stelvio pass the car is to long to drive round most of the turns without taking both sides of the road, I've done the alps and was impressed by how well it did the passes.
If you had the fluid changed through the filter housing it only amounts to approx 50% change as there is loads left in the torque converter. That has now mixed and giving a better drive. A full or another partial change is the best after frying the oil on a track
Joel I have had a few of these e65s including the 760LI and that ZF gearbox is Bomb proof and when these go in with problems people get told it’s a gearbox rebuild / replace etc which is mostly bollox. I noticed they serviced your gearbox but never dropped the mechatronic unit out as above that there are a couple of vital plastic seals which need replaced and always fail. One in particular a rectangular shape one is always the cause for limp mode where the gearbox won’t change gears correctly . You will get a warning of “monitoring clutch A” just replace them of it does it. High revs between gears is the mechatronic unit itself
Bro at the very least you should do your own pollen filters and oil changes. The sooner you start the sooner you can save money for bigger jobs for the garage to take on. You'll start at some point, I just suggest you do so sooner than later. Plus, it's actually enjoyable.
Hi Joel A300£ for transmission doesn't sound bad for that car. I spoke last week with bmw in Basingstoke where i live and they said that is life time transmission and doesn't need anything. from your video I can see that's incorrect. The main question is when I should do it. ZF gear box 4 years old 75k on the clock. Might be worth having a chat with that garage prices look reasonable as I avoid main dealers ridiculous rates.
Ah the power of internet celebrity, turning up to the specialist and deciding what you want to have done when you arrive. My MB specialist is so busy there’s no way he’d be that flexible.
If you want to properly service the transmission you need to change the fluid again because half of the fluid is in the torque convertor and transmission cooler .
Great Video Joel, ATF is a very good cleaner, it will take a few cycles to flush out the torque convertor, and remove any crud thats around the system & valve bodies. The filter is doing its job by catching the muck. If you can regularly change the fluid, it will keep serving you.
My 3 series also had some issues with the gearbox. After oil change had to drive for a while when everything was gone and now drives decent enough :)))
I Recommend you a alpina gear Flash Software Update for the N73+Gearbox :) much less converter slippage Regarding the Gearbox: there are seals above the mechanics unit which needs to be taken out to replace those (40€ gaskets) These can fail and pressure gets lost in the Transmission (ZF 6HP26) -> failsafe Mode Also you should adress those misfirings (Maybe bad coil?) because the misfires result in damaged kats which would cost over 4000€ to replace oem Id like to see a 12,3“ Android Screen Build in 👍

It's well worth removing the valvebody to replace the bridge seal and mechatronic sleeves when servicing the transmission. I made a full video when I did mine: ruclips.net/video/yAjVsJHS65E/видео.html Very common problem for the bridge seal to crack (mine was) and can cause shifting issues!
Would have been interesting to see them do the ZF fill procedure. Did they reset the gearbox adaptations after for you? Any LM faults when they scanned it?
Looks like you got away with the gearbox issue. I would still monitor the box temperatures while driving with a scan tool The next stage for the transmission is to bring down the valve body and replace the sleeves. (there are a few rubber seals that go bad between the valve body and the rest of the gearbox). They probably should have done that. If that does not work then you need a rebuilt valve body. The actual box is fairly strong unless it's allowed to slip while driving due to another fault.

You mentioned misfires/lumpiness that's almost one of the worst things about the 760. It's very hard to diagnose misfires on these engines as there are so many things that can cause that. The car needs a ECU reset, after that he is adjusting the engine and sub ECU´s to the the new preferences, otherways he processes the old stored ECU data wich is obsolet. Auto transmissions have speed sensors (as separate from the wheel speed sensors). There should be at least two on the gearbox. If they go bad the gear changes will be off. Its one more thing to check, potentially.
The speed sensors are built into the transmission ecu on this model, if one of those went bad the trans would go into limp mode and lock into 3rd gear.

@@agen1man had it around 2 years, daily driver, so far new radiator, all external cooling hoses, temp sensor which is the repairs, and then general works 2 Michelin pilot sport 4s 275/40/19 rears, front dics, pads, sensors, arms, battery, battery reset, oil change, air filters, cabin filters, spark plugs, air tyre pressure sensor, seat belt sensor and steering angle sensor!
I see M539 inspired the background music
When doing a transmission service its always good to also change the mechatronic sleves, that does allot of good usually. And driving outside of the UK is not as bad as it was during peak covid, definitely easier after being double vaxed, would be good to see her on the bahn!
Forged engine from top to bottom, twin turbos, suspension it would make great power like 850 still keeping it a luxury cruiser meanwhile u cant go to Germany u get busy with that so when things die down a bit u have a farrari beater
Did you mean to have split audio tracks?
Listening to that scraping sound: get some new windshield wiper blades as well! 👍
@@juggnautbitch no, their built into the actual auto gearbox, which sends the speed signals to the ecu, and yes it does go into limp mode, had it happen on an Audi A6 automatic
Are you planning anything for a 50k special?
I think we've all tried to self diagnose our cars and convince ourselves it's just a loose hose when in fact its normally something catastrophically expensive! It's coming Joel....!
Was that petrol station on Hanworth Road thats literally down the road from me lol
Yes
Is there such a thing as an air con machine lmfao.....na mate we fill up the aircon with a straw
All the sensors in these BMW’s from this era, man my 645Ci is giving me headaches all day
6.5k v12....need the titanium exhaust for that f1 sound.
Track days in cruisers is not a good idea. Also preventive maintenance by a competent mechanic IS a good idea.
Change the wiper blades and do the tracking
I see the problem, the steering wheel is on the wrong side!
😂😂😂😂😂
Last week I hammered the living f*ck out of my gearbox. This week my gearbox is playing up. Eejit :)
Hahah who woulda thought
The 'Beemer looked great on the a316 when I went past you.... In the Jaaaaaaaaaaaaag 😉
How about tacking the BMW from England to the Alpes ,and make a video out of that
Don't mind the cost of the Pilot Sport 4S, they are the best tyres and I wouldn't put anything else under my car after having them for the past 4 years
also 69th like yeet
Yep, pilot sports are great all rounders, especially impressive in the wet
The wheels look like those found on the e34 m5, known as 'throwing stars'
Pretty sure they are. The star is just a cover as well. Behind the cover is a basic 5 spoke alloy wheel.
@@TheM5Dog Dont know if I would call them basic, its a double spoke with various holes in the center. They are quite high tech for their time.
@@GoldenCroc perhaps basic was too basic a word, the important bit was the fact that they are 5 spokes behind the throwing star cover I guess.
@@TheM5Dog Indeed or ten spoke if you look at it that way, though I prefer to call it a 5 spoke "double spoke".
