Catatonia: current practice and new directions

- Dr Jonathan Rogers provides an overview of the assessment and treatment of catatonia, summarising the new British Association for Psychopharmacology guidelines, and examining new research directions to understand this enigmatic disorder. For much of the 20th Century, catatonia was considered to be a subtype of schizophrenia, but research in recent decades has shown that it can appear in a wide range of psychiatric and neurological conditions.
