      I’d forgotten Javik saying that line so I looked it up after reading your comment. The amount of truth and depth put into the characters of this game is probably the most I’ve ever seen in a video game. From their mannerisms to their personalities. The dialogue writers should have won awards for this game...they sure knew how to make you think, with their words of wisdom.

      91Metalhead the ending made me truly sad. i had a male shep/kaiden relationship and seeing kaiden put up shepards name on that wall just made me cry. kaiden deserved for shepard to be alive and make him happy ... since i just couldn't get over the fact that kaiden would truly loose shepard i got a mod for it. shepard lived and even gave kaiden a hug in the end. i was beyond relieved

      @Thexneoshadowx1 9 лет назад +8

      91Metalhead I always break down near the end when u get to talk to your team for the very last time, and just the bonds that were formed especially with Garrus (best friend) and Tali (love interest) since they have been with shepard throughout everything when everyone else had other things or gave up on him, just being taken down that road chokes me up. Mass effect has done something no other game could, it got the players emotionally invested in the characters, gave them hope of a better outcome until they were placed at an innevitable point that shepard would need to sacrifice himself. Long live the Feels Train and the river of manly tears it has wrought.

      The way I see it is.. the Gamer play's the Character.. to watch his story unfold. Commander Sheppard was a great man, better then most.. better then some who exist. But his story, was devoted to protecting everyone he loved, cared about.. he was a Hero. And he might have fallen.. but that should be a sign for inspiration. The ultimate sacrifice one.. Paragon or Renegade was willing to do. He was willing to accept his role in the story, because he truly is.. a Hero.

    • @Supermanohman
      @Supermanohman 9 лет назад +334

      I actually liked the ending in that it drew a final conclusion which was that Shepard had to die. He was the key in this whole series of events. The reapers started with him and ended with him. I think what they tried to do was to make it look like you had the illusion of choice for an ending that really had only 1 reasonable conclusion. If Shepard didn't die, then the impact of his sacrifice would not have been as heavy as it was. People wanted more choice in the ending but honestly, how much of a choice do you think is reasonable here? People say that your choices didn't matter in the end, but if you believe in the story, then the choices mattered for those who lived. How Shepard brought the galaxy together did not die with him. His actions had repercussions for generations.

And now with the mass effect series, we will push forward in Andromeda, never forgetting the sacrifices of those before us. I'm so ready for this game.

      +Cyphi It may seem minor but the way they tied the music into the scene was phenomenal. The discordant bwahh when the Reaper stomped into view, the drums joining in just as the soldier pounded on the transport to signal it, and especially the somber music still having an "upward" quality to it while the Normandy fled into space, as if to say, "things are bad, but as long as that ship is flying, there's hope." Hope this made sense lol

      Makes total sense. The ME series was always good at this. That particular scene was more worthy of an award than most films that get them these days. The whole thing truly makes you feel like the soldier that is fighting a hopeless war but has no other choice than to keep fighting and hoping for the best outcome they can get, all the while knowing the cost will be enormous.

      +ijirving It makes a *huge* difference. My first playthrough had the original endings: the mass relays all explode (which means everyone in a system containing a relay dies, according to the game's own lore), Joker crashes the Normandy on the jungle planet (which means Garrus and Tali die of starvation, since they have unique biologies, and the destruction of the relays means small hope of rescue), and that's it. No epilogue, no explanation; it just looks like everything Shepard ever did was invalidated. Downer Ending. Seeing the Extended DLC endings made all the difference to me, and now I, too, cry manly tears when I hear this music.

      hoodfigga33 I can easily understand why people don't like it, but I don't quite get being mad at the game and makers. It just feels very much like the "gamer crowd" and teenager reaction to it all. I got a feeling it also depends on how you play these games.
      I play these games very much for the story and maybe even more for the atmosphere. The wrap-up isn't as important as the road to it imo.
      I was way more sad about the game ending, than I was about the ending. It wasn't about the ending why I played the game.

      ***** Here's my problem: when I played this game on the EU release date, I was fully immersed in the universe, I had timed it all perfectly and just finished ME2 again when I could finally play ME3. I played the game in full exploration mode and took it all in, enjoyed every second of the gameplay and story and then I come up to the end, once the starchild finished talking I'm just standing there thinking: "What the hell now?". Eventually I went ahead and chose synthesis because I couldn't imagine a world where Jeff and EDI couldn't be together and after the end credits I was simply sad. Not "so impressed by the story that I can't believe its over" sad but plain old dissappointed and depressed. The only thing I could do was go to bed. I've replayed the game since then, with the ending dlc but since I kinda knew how it ends, I was ready for it and I didn't care anymore and just chose to blow the reapers up. Bioware made us care and I applaud them for that, but I don't trust them anymore.

    • @chiffmonkey
      @chiffmonkey 10 лет назад +3

      Havok0159 By "Starchild" you mean an AI.The inaccessible Citadel control core is referenced in ME1 by Avina, and if you visit Klencory in ME1 or ME3 you'll see reference to Beings of Light, created at the dawn of time (hint: by the leviathans), to stop the machine devils. And no machine devils does not mean reapers. The reapers are a LESSER evil. ME3 does not explain what the greater evil really is, but by breaking the cycle, the ending is left open for it. The reapers employed crop rotation (reaper, collector, harvester, even shepard are all farming metaphors), destroying a part of the population infrequently to protect the rest most of the time. People say this is bad logic. To a human it is. To an AI, it's simply the result of a poor application of Asimov's laws.

      +Abuyin ibn Djadir Yeah, I don't get the hate, either. I thought it was an amazing conclusion to the series. It was strong, emotional, and you got to speak to and say goodbye to everyone, which really made me tear up toward the end. It was much better than the ending to Inquisition, where it felt like I knew I would walk away just fine and everything would be okay. I loved the thought that Shepard was in real danger. The strong reaction to what happened to him only shows how much people loved him.
      And if you get your military strength high enough to get the perfect rating, it's so, so worth it. Especially if Shepard has a LI. My god, it was beautiful. Definitely must play Extended Cut, though.

      +Mel Thorn Yes, I don't know why the hate either, in my opinion it was a better ending than DA: Inquisition, yes, in ME3 it felt like Shepard was in real danger, the planet, there was a lot at stake, and the connection with the characters felt more emotional. You could feel the desperation of the characters, I think that DA: Origins felt like some of that way too, I'll never forget Leliana saying at the Battle of Denerim: "You are my Grey Warden and our saviour, win this war for us my love and... come home".

      Cookiesaurus Rex The song is a literal interpretation of the events unfolding on earth. The beginning is the serene feeling of being at home. A calming comfort that you never want to let go of. Then the drums kick in and you are pulled from your paradise forced to see the real world. Even if you close your eyes, the ear shattering truth of what has fallen upon your life is unavoidable. This piece hits this note perfectly. Extremely well done.

    Only 3 instruments - piano, violin and horns later on. The composition of notes is [imo?] simple, something that you can learn as a beginner. Put together, they create something beautiful but also truly haunting, something that makes you feel hopeless.
    And the cherry on top - the reaper horn. It adds an aditional layer of fear, it brings out the Reapers true nature, how dangerous and ruthless they are and how much of a danger they can be. That sound is probably one of the most terrifying things ever created.

    Like, we spent the entirity of 1 and 2 hyping ourselves up like "YEAH, WE GOT THIS, WE'RE GONNA KICK THE REAPERS' ASSES!" only for 3 to come in and immediately replace all of that hype with utter hopelessness within the first 10 minutes like "Oh...oh, no, we were NOT prepared for this..."

    If they ever do make a Mass Effect movie trilogy i believe it would be amazing and if done right could be up there with some of the greatest trilogy's of all time like The Lord Of The Rings, Star Wars and The Dark Knight. Each movie should be around 3 hours long and I want Peter Jackson to director because Mass Effect has so many characters and Jackson is good at making each character (even miner ones) in his movies shine. Also because he could make it epic and really standout from the rest of these kind of sci fi movies and be original like how Guardians Of The Galaxy stood out and was quite original.

If you had five or six ten episode seasons to play with, you could stretch out the character development, incorporate loyalty missions and all the characters, and really do a job.

      Actually an epic thing happened during FTL on the last part of the final boss. I was listening to this track in the background and I was one hit away from dying. But in five tries my ship dodged every hit from the bosses super weapon. I picked away at his shields with a burst laser then fried a pike beam. I had two crew men teleported on the boss ship and their was no time to beam them back because of the cool down time for the teleporter and the boss was about to fire the super weapon soon. His shields were down so I made a choice and took the boss down with a pike beam while two of my crewmen were still in the ship. I won, the battle ended and I was in shock.

    The ending may of been suck-ish, and controversial;
    But, Mass Effect- is, and forever will be, one of the most magnificent game franchises I've ever played. ME, ME2, and ME3 are three of the best games I've ever played.
    Bring on Mass Effect 4, I'm ready!

      100% Agree. Best game series of all time for me, no other game gave me that much of personnal attachment to caracters.
      I'd agree for a ME4, but it has to be perfect. Something like thousands of years before the events of the first 3 I dont know.

      @HandsomeMartyrdom 10 лет назад +5

      Is it for sure a prequel? just curious, and I kind of hope that in the character creation it gives you the option to choose specific races like human turian etc. which would alter dialogue choices, but that probably won't happen

      I agree with you that Mass Effect is probably the best video game franchise ever created. But the ending? I kinda liked it. In my first try I got over 3600 EMS and I chose the Destroy ending because the Indoctrination Theory was running a little before ME3 came out.
      Not sure about ME4, but let's hope Bioware makes us proud.

    Mass Effect, BioShock, The Elder Scrolls, Halo, Dishonored,... duh, there are some masterpieces out there, you know. Not just things someone can refer like "are you playing these videogames again? duh". I'm sad that some people don't get that there are not only games to spend time online with your friends shooting each other (which can be cool, but..), there are games just as there can be movies, series, anime, books,...
    A lot of people don't get that games sometimes are just a module to tell a story.

      I agree mass Effect isn t just a game..its an wonderful story. Honor,courage,bravery, loyalty,self sacrifice, friendship. lost and above all, respect for the others.
      It was the only game that made me live the characters. It was a book

    • @findusuli
      @findusuli 8 лет назад

      ***** You may say that if you don't know the lore. You can't say that about Morrowind though.
      TES was NEVER about the story. Never. Thus, in Oblivion and Skyrim it's mainstream like (if you aren't into the lore). I don't love TES because of their big quests, but because of the lore, which is one of the biggest and most complicated fictional universes there is. A lot of people don't realize that though, because the lore, well, it's great, it's masterly done, but how they tell about the lore most of the time - books. Most of them aren't really thrilling. That sucks.
      Because eof mainstream shit. But the universe itself is still great, and the world as well. If you play TES for the story of the games, you don't get the series.
      Besides, I also like F4. The quests are most of the time rather "ok", but the world is magnificent and I love it just to walk in this great done destroyed world. But that's a way of seeing this game which is not very common.

    • @findusuli
      @findusuli 8 лет назад

      ***** Everyone thinks he knows the lore, but that's most of the time only the lore of the games. If you know what are the Daedra, fine, if you even know that Meridia once was an Aedra or if you know about Anu, Sithis and so on, cool.
      But that's only the lore told in the books and stuff. TES is in its own way realistic. The folk doesn't really understand their own Gods. Do you know CHIM? Ever read the 36 Lessons of Vivec and understood one bit of it?
      Do you know that Lorkhan is like the most important character of the whole game? Do you know that the Dwemer are now the divine skin of the Numidium and thus, "Gods"?
      What about kalpas, what about C0DA, what about the fact that everything which could be happen happened because Akatosh ate his own tail so the time is ... well. Do you know about Dragon breaks, when time's not a word anymore and things happen without chronological order which is why there are so many mysteries out there?
      The Elder Scrolls is way more than it is on the surface which is made for mainstream. TES is one of the greatest fantasy worlds there is. Even if you don't like it, you still have to admit that it's giant und absolutely well-thought. So to say it's shit ... is rather strange, because there's so much passion behind it.
      TL;DR: I know there's sth called opinion, but calling sth "shittiest stories" while knowing how much thought there's into it is just ... nah.

    For a month I have been playing this trilogy, it has touched me on a deep level. When I play I really feel that I am the one who fires the trigger that kills a being or who finds the medal of a deceased husband and returns it to its enduring owner. I have left the ME1 with some incomplete secondary missions, and although I barely go in ME2, I cannot and do not want to go back because in "real life" it cannot be done, but neither to go forward and avoid the loss of a friend. I feel more "me" in this series than in any other, perhaps almost as "me" as in real life. I LOVE this saga.

    Everyone shits on the ending of this game
    But people forget the whole purpose of the games and the choices we made in them was leading up to the ending it was leading US the PLAYER to the realization of
    1)”we cannot save them all”
    No matter how hard you try no matter what you do you can never save everyone and therefore you can only save as many as you can when you can
    AND
    2) “NO victory comes without sacrifice”
    Each ending no matter which one you chose at the end of the games resembles one of these meanings..........

    Each soundtrack fits each game perfectly. ME1 is the first in the series and has really spacey tracks that reflect our first foray into this universe. It introduces this beautiful galaxy to us and fills us with a sense of wonder. ME2 is much darker and fast-paced, and a lot more gritty. ME3 is a mix of epic (the Reapers coming) and emotional (saying goodbye to old friends, having to make sacrifices). The way the three games are so different and yet they balance each other perfectly, it's magica.
