  • In my continued quest for all 33 of the 3,500' mountains in the Catskills, I present Blackhead, Black Dome, and Thomas Cole mountains. This will be #12-14 for me.
As far as Catskills trails go, this route is definitely in my top 10 now. Easy going from trailhead to summits with some moderate elevation gain and a few tricky spots. I'll definitely be going back to do the entire range at some point.
Thanks everyone for checking the video out, and I'll see you on the next one. I may be out filming this weekend to do a small video on the Leatherman as I am very close to one of his main caves.

Great video, thanks for sharing! I did this same hike this past winter, so beautiful. Cool to see what it looks like with the leaves on the trees.

Thanks for checking it out, glad you enjoyed the trip. So some of those rock scratches I was following were yours? Always crazy to see them and think, "someone was right here, in the freezing cold, climbing this bad boy". I've had a couple of bad Winter experiences so kind of shy away from it now.

Damn dude for somebody who hasn't hiked in a while you did not pick an easy trail. Good to see you post videos again especially in the Catskills. Are you doing any backpacking trips this summer?

It's funny you say that because as I was driving up and saw the 3 mountains laid out in front of me, I had the same exact thought. Luckily the bike riding has kept my legs in fairly good shape. I do have a few trips in the works that should get me out for a few days at a time, definitely going back to Pharaoh Lake again this year to do Treadway and Pharaoh mountains.

Great vid Caps. If you're using the blue capped GoPro batteries they are really bad. Use the new Enduro batteries. A big battery upgrade. The GoPro shuts down in cold weather with the blue batteries not with the Enduros and they last longer.

I'm already a step ahead on that one, I bought a pair of Enduros at the end of last season because the camera kept shutting off on my bike rides. Been loving them so far, I can go really deep on the meter before I notice anything weird with the camera. I do still have one blue that I use for the driving clips...sometimes leave it in against my better judgement.

Quite a nice job for a morning walk. Wish there're better indicators for where true summits are. They did survey those mountains, didn't they?

Thank you! I agree on the lack of indicators, you hike up and are standing there in the middle of the trail wondering if you actually did it. I've seen survey marks on some of them but not all. Usually I just walk around until I feel I'm at the highpoint and then do my "here is xx mountain, no idea how tall it is" clips :)
