I like how you get right to the point. You don’t spend 5 minutes setting up what you want to get across. Great tips! Thank you.
i agree!
How this guy doesn't have 2 million subscribers (yet) is beyond me. Matt.....you've changed my golfing life dude. My wife doesn't let me watch your videos past 6:00 PM anymore.
Whopped
Surely there can't be a better recommendation than "wife banned me watching your videos... "
Jeff Goldblum of golf
Agreed, and seeing in the super expensive courses is awesome
Seriously. Out of all the RUclipsrs I learn the most from this channel and he’s not British!
In short, 1. No hands forward, 2. No sway, and 3. No low take-back! Great content, Matt. So much packed into this nice short video. If you could do a video on hybrid vs. long-iron, that would be fantastic. Keep up the great work...appreciate your efforts! 👌
"no hands forward, _at address_ "
You still need to have some lag, which means your hands will be slightly forward at impact. If you get the proper turn, your hands should be slightly ahead at impact.
@@Real28 James, correct grip and it is virtually impossible to have a low take back.
Second this.
Way forward a the way clubs work you’ll need a little bit forward
Best youtube golf instructor i've found. Practical tips, short videos, and to the point. Barely had to skip sections of the video. Great for his algorithm but better for us! thanks matt
Out of any golf youtuber this guy has helped the most . I don't watch anyone else anymore for tips , drills or instruction.
Great content....I'm 61 and still have a 2 iron in my quiver.....when the driver and I are not on talking terms, trusty 2 is the first act.....Cheers.
Yes, yes, yes!!! Screwing yourself into the ground is the perfect visualization!!! Went to the range today and saw immediate improvement with my contact. Looking forward to the weekend when I try it on the course. Thanks!!
Thank you Matt, love these teaching videos. For old guys like me these are great tips and things I need to work on. I greatly appreciate you.
Great video. I'm pretty sure when I'm struggling with the long irons, I'm swaying, and not screwing. Thanks Mr. Short Game!
Man I love you. !! I didn't really understand the backward motion until now. One word saved me, screwing down..aaand bingo. As a winelover, now I know what to do!!! thank you. Subscribing, hiting notification bell, liking everything!!!
Good tips! thanks! And please add more videos of you playing. Always enjoyable to see all this in action!
Thank you so much for straight to the points. No long speeches. Much helpful!!
I love your videos. I enjoy watching them and I always try to go back and watch them over helps a lot. So thanks for all the advice and it's very informative. Not sure if you already have or haven't, could you make a video about different lofts of wedges and how to use them? For what distance or in what types of scenarios you'll use what wedge/club?? Much Mahalo 🤙
Prior to my shoulder operation, I was a +4. Now…. I’m right at a solid 5. Your videos really keep my going and motivated. Thank yiu
Mr SG, I love the screw lesson. I play 2 to 3 times a week. I have so much info that I have to clear my mind when playing. I love your positive mind set.
Used to be a hands forward player on every shot but putts until I found your channel last year! Every few rounds I add something else I learned from you in. New step is working on the early release causing extreme backspin on the driver(getting around 5-6k rpm) taking away easy 50 yards distance
Outstanding!!! Needed that instruction. Thx man!
Great lesson, helped me a lot. Thanks!!
Super helpful, thanks man!
Fantastic tips! Thanks!
Thanks for the tips! Number 1 tip was the major nemesis for me first learning the game.
Possible 4th could be ball position/stance. I used to struggle with long iron ball position. My reality for "ball position" was actually my stance. I was too narrow. I play the same ball position regardless of club(irons). What changes is the width of my stance. Unless I'm going for a particular ball flight. Works for me anyway! Thanks again!!
Great - I needed this. Thanks😊
That screw move and making sure Keeping hands centred has changed my golf dramatically thankyou so much! went from shooting 90 odd to 82-80 consistently
In my experience, when too much forward shaft lean is presented at address the fault is simply ball position. People will fault the grip or the stance but really the ball is just a tad too far back. Nothing wrong with a punch 4 iron... but you need to know how to control the face to avoid misses. Shaft lean with long irons is always a good idea, just make sure the ball is kept a little forward of middle.
great video as always - love your channel - great variety - great personality !!
Great video! Can’t wait to try your lesson. Thank you Matt!!! Do you have one for the driver?
Great friggin video man. Simple, looks doable. Not too much jargon. Easy to follow, thank you
I have improve a lot my golf game from driver, fairway wood , pitch and chip, thank you, you are a gorgeous teacher, we love you🤗
Thank you!!
Cheers Matt, nice and simple and relevant.
Always giving great tips! Thx! 🙏
NICELY EXPLAINED!
One of your best videos, pack full of great tips.
Awesome video mate, just tried these tips at the rage worked really well I’ve never hit my long iron’s so well.
Great video... thanks.
Always smart good advice, thank you.
Thanks for the tips !! Will use it this ‘season 🤙
Omg 😲 just watched a couple of your videos and so much makes sense. Al ,5 handicap but loosing shots . Chipping advice 👍🏼
I cut my 4 iron to my 5 iron length, subtle tweak that has helped immensely. Really enjoy the vids, especially the country club reviews
Love the vids man. Thanks again for the great tips.
I identify with the first of the tips! Thank you very much for the help. goes to my favorite videos.
Great video Matt
Love these videos, dude. Thank you!
Mr Shortgame! I really really like your tips and your style!
Thanks Matt !
Been struggling with woods on the fairway lately so the long iron has been getting some action. Great tips I'll work on Matt
Classic, thank u
Great advice for long irons, I'll test soon...
Good Stuff!!!!
You're such a good entertainer! Teaching with fun...
Always great Mr. SG 🙏🙏🙏
Good vid mr.SG, thanks. How about a lesson on the left hand position (right handed golfer) during backswing?
Great video, Loved"Don't get me started" too funny. 👍
All these tips worked immediately.
Subbed! Love from Australia
Thanks for reminding me about the sway. Way back when when I learned this it was also described as don't let the swing pull your body out of line with the ball.
Like the screw in idea. I'll be trying that this spring
your swing looks so good..... thanks again for your help...i loved it when you said "your paying someone money to fix things you could fix yourself".....
Wow, I had instant results, Matt! Using the screw technique shaved 8 strokes off my score the very 1st time. Thanks so much for the advice! My game has totally improved.
You’re an awesome teacher man!
Such a BA room! Great show man...SG move, hands in club out and middle of the road setup AND a driving iron.....do you have a Driving Iron review episode?
point 3 , something that really helped me on this, keep the left arm against the chest, can even see when you twist the club(hand rotation @ 5:59) how it moves away which causes all kind of inconsistent shots.
Great Video !!!
I subscribe.
Hopefully this fixes my hooker problem.
Love the vids, I just started really playing this year and you’ve helped me compete with my friends playing for 10+ years. You do a great job of breaking it down in plain english so it’s simple and easy to understand
Great video
Great video mate 🏌️♀️⛳️🏌️♀️⛳️👍👍
Great video! I struggle with your first point as I can't get my long irons air-born. Just have one questions. With the hands being more neutral or back does not close the club face somewhat?
thank you sensei matt ☘️
Very good
Thank you for dropping #gems ... you have always had our backs for long irons and fairway woods ...
Great stuff! Do you have a video that touches on wrist conditions with the driver? Thanks!
Great video!!! Ball placement??? In the center or slightly forward??
I’m a 11 handicap & I feel like i hit my long irons about 60% good & 40% bad. I’m pretty sure I sway sometimes instead of screwing into the ground. Great video & can’t wait to go work on that move.
thx MrShortGame I'd play my 2 iron so well one week and so bad another & that helped me understand why gj.
Hey Mr SG whats the shaft is in that middle driver behind you, I really like the color scheme? 😀 ty for the tips
Thank you.
I've felt that hands forward ruined my golf swing.
I've been working to neutralize my hands and found that old habits are hard to break.
When I swing hands neutral, I get MUCH BETTER results.
What great tips please HELP my irons are shooting high but loose distance I will try the screw down but would like some tips please.
Love the bud, once I get my tennis elbow healed up I’ll be back at it!
Hey ever consider side to side comparison of cold weather vs warm weather ball flight? Also soft vs firm ball? 🍻
I like the screw analogy! Thanks Mr. SG
🤦♂️ I just figured that out I was doing that deloft thing a couple of days ago. Wish you came out with this months ago😆
Love how you mention the problems of conventional coaching. I am mostly self taught, I’ve done under 20 hours of lessons my whole life and I’ve felt that I did get better in the 20 lessons but I could have gained all the knowledge of those lessons in 2 lessons. How the wrists work for example. It wasn’t explained easy to me like you explain it. Turning the screw, so simple, so easy. Would love some advice though!!! I have a strong left grip and I’m a right handed player. I find I can’t turn the screw as much because it shuts the face down too much. Should I consider going neutral with my grip?? I’m able to get some forward shaft lean at impact which is awesome because even after 10 lessons at golf Tec years ago I was still flipping.
That hands in club out was the best tip that I have been told by far.. The first two are good, as well.
I kinda figured out tip 3 by myself thankfully. Had the biggest struggle to hit it straight, mostly either pushing right or hooking. With the club on the outside i can feel my arm coming across my chest a whole lot better and giving me the room to swing freely. These are the kinds of things you just forget if you don't play for 3 years
WOW ! FANTASTIC. Can we apply the same rules to a 3-wood.
I need desperate help! I have forgotten how to use my legs in my swing, sounds dumb I know, but I forgotten how. Will you please do a video showing some drills on how to make sure you are using your legs.
Been working on that hip turn. Played 9 this week. Hit 71% fairways and 78% GIR. I’m a believer. And noticing more distance with my irons.
Simple but efficient
I just got new irons and I’m hitting my 7 longer than my 5 😩 I can’t wait to try these. Tip 1 might be the trick, considering it’s a longer club I should have more neutral hand position similar to how I would hit my driver. I’m going to try and also keep in mind tip 3. I’m hoping to add 40 yards to this 5 iron.
Wow that's me even with my 5 iron - Thanks fantastic 👍
Saving this for when I forget the basics
I love you man!
Golf: a game of opposites, great tips once again, I’ve always played long irons (inconsistently) with hands slightly forward, apparently a big no-no
The idea of screwing myself into the ground is the single most helpful tip I've ever received. Completely changed my game.
I agree, most golf coaches are salesman and not actually interested in seeing you improve. I know you didn't say it but I know!
Awesome!! You continue to amaze me with your knowledge and helpful instructional insights. Thank you again!
I believe you could play with the pros on tv if you wanted to.
The thing about professional golf is the margin in scoring average between the top 150 players in the world is a fraction of stroke. I can’t even begin to explain how competitive it is.
Any recommendations on building flexibility and strength off the course for better golfing. I'm in my 50's and find I have sore knee on the leading edge.
I have srixon zx5 irons absolutely cracking. Gained distance. So pure to hit until my 5 iron. 5 and 4 are so slim and so small and seem like I don’t hit them the distance I need. I hope this video helps
Love your channel watch you all the time how about three woods
Mr. Shortgame, as always great video even though my longest Iron is a 5! Should apply to the Hybrid I assume.
Would the first one apply to game improvement irons with a lot of offset? I have a set of Callaway X2 Hot and they seem to require my hands being forward.
