HDMI cables transfer both audio and picture through one single cord, whereas the old avi or newer component cables require more than one, so to answer you question yes

I almost bought this. Until I saw that it will not work with the 2011 iMacs. A shame it doesn't work with the later iMacs. I have an iMac from mid-2011. So I guess this will not work for me. I'll need to search for another way to get my PS3 working with my 2011 iMac.
