    Thank you for this - I've had my EV6 for 2/52 and didn't get round to understanding why the car would go from warm air (it's never hot air 😞) to cold air. Now I know - it's the auto defog!

    I was realy confused by the heating switching on at 'random times' withput the heat bitton being lit. I thought this was a bug of some kind. Until I watched your video I thought I would never figure out the reason. So thanks this realy puts my mind at ease. I now switched the auto stuff off. I dont like all the fuzzy automation...

    Think about this for a moment. An 18 minute video on the many ways to setup your climate system. Think about all the other systems in the car that are manually adjustable. There is so much tech in this car it is hard to remember and learn it all. Have owned mine since August of 2022 and am still finding stuff. Amazing car. Thanks for another detailed video on the climate system.

      I totally agree. Took me a year to finally make this. For one it’s an awfully big subject with much detail. And the other reason is that it took me a year to learn everything i could myself before i was even comfortable doing it.

    Thanks again for a very helpful and thorough video Brian. In the Dutch EV6 forum this is a main and recurring topic. Having multiple owners with early models, mid models and late models and a varying state of component updates makes it a nightmare to pinpoint possible causes… I’d wish Kia would be more proactive in recalling cars for updating and/or replacing components. Now it’s more like hear no evil see no evil 😆 And indeed, the system is needlessly complicated; I noticed it is somewhat better in the Niro EV though. Less is more so to say.

    • @evodessey

      Cheers. It would seem that the top trim of the new Niro EV has the same Auto features as the EV6 as well as the same DATC console. Would be interesting to see if they get the same issues.

    Great video unpacking the unnecessarily complicated Kia HVAC. I’ve wrestled with it since getting mine and tend to leave on 1 dot auto, with manual use of front defrost, reader defrost and seat & wheel heating as needed. I’ve wondered why I get extra blasts of cold or warm randomly and, after watching your video, am convinced it is to do with those smart auto overrides such as de-fog. It feels like a system that has had feature after feature added over time but without much thought how they affect the previous features resulting in conflicts and confusion. I have made my peace with the system and have my few go to settings which work most of the time.

    I almost wasn't going to watch this video because you put "GT Line S" in the title and I thought it wouldn't apply to my US-spec EV6 Wind trim. I'd recommend changing the title because 95% of what you went over is found on all EV6 trim levels. The only exception would be rear heated seats, but that was only a brief part of the video.
    Great information as always.

      @evodessey  Год назад

      Cheers it is over complicated. I think what it needs is a simple mode where it just does what you would expect of normal Climate Control and an advanced mode where the rest of the stuff can be done. I’ve lost count of the number of times over the year where i ended up with cold feet and misted windscreen before i figured out all of this stuff.

    The EV6's warm air heater works well for the front seats. When the vent is in the head-to-toe and windshield position, the side vents on the B-pillars (F) and the air vents under the front seats (E) should also blow out warm air. Unfortunately, this is not the case. A very weak, rather cold draft is noticed. The seat heating alone does not bring comfort to the rear passengers. You only notice this disadvantage when the car is fully occupied. The passengers in the back seats are freezing!

    • @evodessey
      @evodessey  Год назад

      My wife had to sit in the back once and got a stiff neck from the constant draft from the b-pillar vents. I was blaming myself for setting the heater incorrectly.

    • @ScottDLR
      @ScottDLR 11 месяцев назад

      According to what I found in my 2024's manual, when it's in the heat mode and Auto Climate, it will blow heat out under the seat rather than the B pillars. When it's in the air-conditioning/cooling mode, it will blow that cool air out the B pillar vents instead. Also, anytime air is flowing out the front floor vents, it's also coming out the rear floor vents.

    I noticed the smart ventilation coming up in the odometer. Also I might add the auto recirculation, seems it does not light up when the AC is in auto, I was behind a diesel truck the other day and the light for the recirculate air was not on and I was not getting the nasty smell inside the cabin. I have Niro EV 4 with the heat pump and I have been trying to find a setup where I can rely on the seat and steering wheel heaters to keep me warm, but have some HVAC output to keep my feet warm and the screen clear. So far I have failed. If I set the air direction to footwell, then I do get warm air down there, but also some cool air coming out of the front vents. It's as if there is some cold outside air dragged into the cabin that way. I then found that the system got upset because it cannot reach the target temp, so it ramps up the temp of the air via the footwell. In the end it was running at 2.5KWH trying to warm the car. Ok my feet were warm, but I wasn't getting the energy saving.
    The fundamental problem seems to be that the temperature controls seem to represent the desired temp in the cabin and not the desired temp of the inflowing air. It sort of makes sense if you don't care about energy use, but as an EV you want to use as little energy as possible and rely on the seat/s.wheel heaters. KIA obviously wants you to just stick it on auto and heat the cabin.
    OK so you then think, fine, I'll leave it on auto but at a low temperature, 20c maybe. But you then find that even on Auto level 1, it is literally blowing cold air at you. so you then have to faff about with the manual controls to stop it and then you are back at square 1.
    It is literally the most finicky HVAC I've ever had to use.
    Maybe as you say, the only solution is to turn the whole thing off and only turn on if you need to defog. Seems a bit daft.

    Thx for this video. My EV6 doesn’t heat up. I’ve tested a lot of stuff. But I’m there. I only need a fix now from KIA. When I turn on the climax control only cold air is supplied. Either in auto or in non-auto mode. This is when I get in the car and switch the elektronics on or when I turn climax control manualy on and of. I set all auto settings as defog disabled. There is no use of KWh on the airco when the climate control is ON. It shows only zero’s but fans and heat light is on. I only get heat out of the vents when I push the button sync to driver only or the other way around. After this the Kwh on the airco display is starting to count up, and after a few minutes I feel heat out of the vents. I don’t think this air temperature is actually the temperature on the display, but it’s warm. On 28th of januari I bring my EV6 i@ my dealer in the Netherlands. Earlier they checked with the conclusion that te climate controle didn’t work but there where no faults on their computer. So now after my own tests last week I hope I can show them what I come up with and check for a fix. Regards Stefan

    I have 2 questions left:
    - what does auto-repeat (holding fan speed) do?

      Having the "heat" and/or the "AC" buttons ON, will eat battery range. I've started to use both in short blasts as needed. Question for you....if I have the HEAT button off and turn the temp dial up to 27deg when I'm cold; will there be any heat emitted through the vents at all, or you only get warm air when the heat button is on. So is the temp dial effectively useless, without the heater or ac unit being switched on. Apologies, I know this sounds silly....but trying to work out how best to efficiently use the heating and cooling without killing range.

      @@johnmurphy9601 If the Auto Climate button has been switched on then the Heat & AC are automatically applied. So raising temp 27 should make it come on if not illuminated already.If you are in manual mode then you have to press heat. If you are getting heat out of the vents without Heat button being on then it’s normally Auto Defog working in the background. I only pop the climate on in short bursts also to extend range.

    Hi, not sure if this is a climate questions or not…but how do you turn on the heating on the side mirrors, whilst driving (I see the options in the app)
    Thanks

    I've had the EV6 GT-Line for 2 monts. I have been getting 222 mile range at 100% charge, I've done this twice which I do once a month at full charge. I only got the 282 mile range when I left the lot and after that I never saw it again.
    I actually called KIA and they said the EV6 uses your last driving data to give you the maximum mile range. WTF! My sister has a Tesla and she gets 400 to a full charge and never changes. KIA needs to fix this. It's disappointing to see a 100% charge only at 222 which should be 282., 90% charge is only 186 mile range. Imagine what the 80% charge KIA suggest to charge to. This EV6 GT-Line is not effin cheap. I drive the EV6 GT-Line at 70 mph snell slow and I drive in eco mode. I might end up selling this EV6 GT-Line due to the range not being accurate which really sucks.

      The problem here is that the range is a best guess. That’s why it’s called a Guessometer. Some of these are quite accurate and some are over optimistic. Your range sounds about right with the Winter,driving with high speed and Climate Control use. It will easily improve when it warms back up. This is a good Tesla article i’ve found on the subject. www.recurrentauto.com/research/used-model-3-range

      @@r35tmanbash It will. Mine got back to it’s original 328 Miles last summer. Currently it’s 282 but i don’t do that much motorway & i’m a low mileage user.
