- Stuck in your confines chewin? it over.
Caught in your headlights. Stop staring.
Don?t know what?s on my mind. What am I thinking?
Whatever I say is a lie, so stop staring. Tread carefully
Take a breath and count the stars.
Let the world go round without you.
If you?re somewhere you can hear this song
Sing along.
Close your eyes and count to ten.
Maybe love?s the only answer.
I will find a way to sing your song
So sing along.
Help me understand the silence.
We make the best we can of everything.
Nothing is what it was. Turning the light on.
Honesty changes us completely. Tread carefully.
Take a breath and count the stars.
Let the world go round without you.
If you?re somewhere you can hear my song
Sing along.
Close your eyes and count to ten.
Maybe love?s the only answer.
I will find a way to sing your song.
Just sing along.
What is lost can be replaced.
What is gone is not forgotten.
I wish you were here to sing along
My son
My son
My son
I chose this song for my sons funeral, mainly because I sing a lot and I wish he couldv'e sang with me like my other kids. When he died, I felt like the person portrayed in this song! I miss you Roland. I wish you were here, to sing this song! I love you. You won't be forgotten! Love Dad!
Rest in Peace 🙏 stay Strong Brother
My heart is with you and your family.
.
I can't even imagine, bless you, mothers and fathers that experienced the worst possible pain....😢❤
I feel you, although I've never felt the pain of losing a little one. The lyrics on this one touched so many fibers
This movie is so under rated. It sucks when movies that actually have a meaning behind them, get the least attention. The soundtrack to this movie is one of my new favorites. The songs were so good. I have never liked every song on a movie soundtrack until now.
i think if this movie came out today it would be panned by a lot of people, some will shout it is empathizes with a killer etc etc and not see the actual meaning behind the movie, its a shame really
@@himanshusinha8245 what is the name of movie?
@@dm27_jainadarsh37 The movie is "Rudderless"

Held it together throughout the movie till this ending.......Brilliant and underrated movie
Def underrated...sh*t, truthfully never rated what it should be...life changing. This movie touched me in a way(no homo)I never expected. It gave me strength.
This Movie was Amazing... We get to see the other side of unfortunate events.... Love it!!!!!!!!
You encapsulated it so well! Why wasn't he nominated for the Oscar?
John Benjamin Masilamoni the academy awards are purely political and need funding behind a movie to be eligible for voting. This was an under funded art house flick and they never get the acclaim they deserve.
That ending took me apart man. It’s been years since I saw it and hearing/thinking of this song still makes me shed a tear
It's been over six years and this song still breaks my heart everytime I hear it.
same dude
Same
same here
same
7 now and still doing it
I remember when I was a kid. I watched this movie with my mom. She passed away on April 29 2024. I played her this song on my ukulele to her. Instead of singing my son at the end of the song I was singing my mom. I saw a tear coming down her eyes. Even though she couldn't talk I'm glad she could hear me play this song for her,
This movie was amazing... scratch that- *heavy*, we'll call it. I walked into it completely blindsided, hadn't watched any trailers or anything, literally had no idea what it was about. Mainly I put it on as background noise while I did other things, but I was drawn into it from the opening plot, then a few hours later... here I sit, completely blown away with how it turned out.
Yeah, same as me. I was skeptical, because Rudderless is Macy's first movie. I was so wrong :-D
+cinapps , I think I would stick with amazing, when you re-watch it paying attention to the lyrics of this song..how Sam so desperately wishes he could have offered the songs advice to his son BEFORE he lost it, its impact reasonates for days..Take a breath and count the stars, maybe love is the only answer..., Man, if you don't have a son, feel lucky, when you do, this movie is like getting kicked in the chest by a mule..lol
+cinapps Yeah, I know exactly how you feel...
+Steve M I will watch this after I have my own son.
Steve M yeah man i have 2 sons and 3 daughters and if any one of them did something like that i dont think i would feel like i was kicked in the chest i actually wouldnt feel anything for very long cause id put a bullet through my skull
Loved the way the movie didn't show the story of the kid, we only see the father who lost his son. it doesn't matter if his son is good or bad or has a reason or not, the only thing matter it was his son.
exactly.
Well said. ❤️
People often forget that, in these tragedies.
It's funny that you identify that because the primary criticism by the"experts" was that , hiding the facts surrounding the incident was "manipulative" and illicited undeserved sympathy that would not exist we're the script absent of the deception which sounds like something a child might say after being pranked or tricked , The story was not about the child but a parent who lost a child HOW your kid dies doesn't matter in any way and the omission was not some trick to shock but a very intentional effort to make people recognize that every one is someone's family and regardless of the circumstances someone is suffering thier loss , we should remember that before saying someone deserved what they got. Or that we are glad they are gone .
I think this scene can be interpreted as the Father saying to his son that he loves him, and that maybe the son didn't know that he was loved, maybe the father didn't say it, or show his son enough love when he was alive, perhaps because of embarrassment or perceived weakness, but here the father (by singing the song) is saying not only to his son that he loves him but he's also saying it in front of the whole world, not to be seen as heroic or anything like that, or as an attempt to gain sympathy in any way, but because he's doing his job, or duty, as it where, as a father, regardless of what his son has done, without fear and without embarrassment, I think this scene shows what being a father is all about (maybe the father is filled with regret at the end thinking why didn't he say this, or show his son more love like this earlier on, who knows), maybe there are times in our lives where we don't get another opportunity to tell the people we love that we love them, and then maybe it becomes too late, maybe this scene is all about the father, in some way, trying to put a wrong right, and thus, acknowledging that maybe he was at fault in some way aswell, don't know.
I love how during this scene there is a shot of the band without being able to hear them, I thought that was a masterstroke, I don't know how anyone can watch this and not be moved in some way.
The only way for the characters in the movie to try and move forward is to show love and forgiveness, as it says in the song 'maybe love is the only answer,'
yes, it is.
I was sad when this film was over. These are one of those films that you dont want to end. there so good! Never seen such a good movie!
It made me want for more. After he sang the song, I was expecting to see the audiences and look at their reactions. And I also want to know where Sam's going to live after he offered his boat for the guitar. Everytime I watch movies in HBO, I always ended up watching the sad ones like Family Weekend and this. Damn HBO. *sniff*
Me too
Eyeless Jackie he offered the boat for the store not the guitar
Eyeless Jackie I don't think he offered the boat for the guitar, but the boat for the whole store. That is why he asked if the offer for his store was a good one and a boat like that is worth quite a bit.
blindm3thod Yeah, Greg LaManna already said that. Sorry, I must have not been paying attention to that scene of the movie. thanks for correcting me.
"I will find a way to sing your song."
In the end he does. With Josh's public image, Sam's the only person who can express his kid's pained, suffering soul effectively. Nobody claps him, then Sam leaves without saying thanks. It's like he's saying "I don't need anyone's approval, I'm not seeking forgiveness, I'm only here to tribute Josh's goodness, because nobody would otherwise take the time to try and understand him."
Adam Dawson that's right man
You just made me cry even more
:'< I am a sad llama.
Eyeless Jackie Check out my version, this song is just beautiful

I thought Sam was grieving a victim of a mass shooting. It wasn't until Selena Gomez's character confronted Sam, that I figured something wasn't right; and when Sam finally visited his son's grave (Josh) and I saw the graffiti on it, I then knew Josh was the shooter and that Sam was grieving the loss of his son and also dealing with what his son had done; and then after Sam had been bailed out of jail by Lawrence Fishburn's character and they discussing who Sam was, and Lawrence Fishburn's character was like, "they were somebody son, somebody's daughter," and Sam was like, "but he was MY SON," I started CRYING. From then on, I couldn't stop crying because by then, everything just clicked. So by the time Sam decided to sing the song he finished for his son, I was a freaking mess. Incredibly moving! Just couldn't stop crying!
William Macy is a talented fucker, I tell you that.
+ducky8abug best movie, nice words
spoiler alert
the entire movie means something else after that. it was amazing. Never saw it coming
Same here.. but I held it until "I wish you were here to sing along.. my son.. my son.. my son.. my son.. " beautiful movie.. never seen one like it..
Selena Gomez's character was an angry, bitter, judgmental b@#$! in my opinion. Her anger was understandable but for her to just come at Sam the way she did without even making an attempt to understand his side just made me think she only cared about blaming someone. How would she have felt if it was her son who took the lives of six innocent human beings? It was easy for her to assign blame and point the finger because she didn't have to carry the burden of being the parent of a mass murderer.
rip Anton yelchin, he was part of this movie. This movie will deepen your knowledge to people who suffers from depression.
dude i didnt know he died. that makes me sad, he was a good actor like in charlie Bartlett and alpha dog
Another 27😐😔it's sad
Anton died at 27 but he didn’t kill himself. He died in a freak rollaway accident with his SUV.
@@311junglist yeah got killed accidentally by his own car, my brother almost died the same way luckily only the door hit him.
Made the mistake of watching this movie for the first time on a 4 hr flight and I had no idea what to expect. By the end of it I couldn’t fight the tears off any longer. That was an embarrassing end to the flight! Great movie, RIP Anton.
bloody hell. whos cutting onions in the room?
I don't know but whoever it is, they better stop
This was my dads favorite movie of all time and listened to this song a million times a day. He passed away from alcoholism in may and whenever I miss him I listen to this. I miss you dadda. Just want you to know I’m continuing to sing your song
The song has a totally another meaning after you found what his son did. The first part is what his troubled son wrote and the second is all his father wish he could have told him. Break my heart every time.
My dad loved this movie, especially this song. I feel like he thought he resignated with it. He died two weeks ago of overdose and I feel like my dad identified with the kid in a way. He replayed this movie over and over again. So I cannot help but responsible to “sing his song”
This song broke my heart
One of the movies that will never ever leave you the same
This scene (in combination with the rest of the movie) is amazing. The dad wasn't able to grieve his son because of the shame of his actions. People looked at the son and all he was to them was a cold-blooded murderer, but behind all that... he is still someone, with a father, and mother. He is a son. I got overwhelmed by feelings looking at this movie.
I don't usually post on RUclips but this movie is by far one of the best I've ever seen, absolute masterpiece, it's a shame it never got the push it deserves...RIP Anton Yelchin
I'm so glad I've found this movie 'cause movies now a days SUCK.
Exactly
I'm so sorry for you.
Just found out my dad died yesterday... I think I will play this song at his funeral and exchange "My son" to "My dad" at the end... Unless I come up with a song of my own for his eulogy. Have been rewatching this movie since the start of 2016 multiple times, even performed Over Your Shoulder and Real Friends live on my first live solo performance a week ago. As Marty McFly from Back to the Future would say - this is heavy, Doc...
I would like to know how it goes man. Sorry for your loss.
Please record it, i would like to hear a cover.
Sorry to hear about your loss, make life amazing for yourself.
Roberts Matisons oh my god. My deepest condolence, Robert. may his soul rest in peace
Roberts Matisons sorry for ur loss
As a father that's never had children.....I cry every time I watch this movie and hear this song.
I was in prison for a couple of years and this movie was in the faith based dorm. Honestly this movie moved me so much. I learned it on guitar and played it a few times for the other inmates. I got out and showed my dad. He loved it
Rip Anton. Billy your performance was unbelievable. This last song had me in tears. I have 2 teenage boys that I try to communicate with the absolute best I can. Making sure they know how much I love them and how I hope the can talk to me about anything. William H Macy what a phenomenal first directorial debut. Mega fan forever
I'm a HUGE MOVIE FAN, and I didn't think ANYTHING could surprise me... But I was KNOCKED BACK & KNOCKED OUT by the "reveal" in this film. BRAVO, Mr. Macy, and everyone else in this drama!!!! And, of course, RIP Anton.

Beautiful.
I don't think anyone played a role of a grieving father as well as Sam !! Brilliant. You can feel the heaviness of his heart in this song :(. Just an amazing movie and an amazing soundtrack :)
Rip Anton Yelchin.... i miss u so much
'What is lost can be replaced.
What is gone is not forgotten.'
Wow this words touch my heart... Awesome movie
I still think he says "...CAN'T be replaced..."makes more sense, and goes with the next line..
+John Jenkins Thanks bro :)
Just finished watching this film! Absolutely beautiful in a sort of melancholy way, but beautiful none the less. :)
My favourite part about this is that Josh did actually NOT write any of the lyrics to this song. Josh originally wrote a song to the melody which you can hear his dad listening to earlier in the film, it's very angry and does not match any of these lyrics. His dad then took the melody and wrote Josh's song. It's Josh's not because he wrote it, but because Sam wrote it especially for him after getting him to know him better through the songs he did write. So moving.
The silence and the movement of bartender when he says that "he shot and killed 6 people" sets the whole song so right
The number of goosebumps I got during the length of this video are uncountable. I'm feverish.
Excellent movie and incredible song. Always makes me cry. I can feel his pain as he is singing. I have never understood why people hold the family responsible for something they themselves had no idea was going to happen. If the families knew I am sure they would get their loved ones help. I always want to send a sympathy card to the family of the shooter because they are grieving too but never get the chance to. I am happy to see a film that looks at the other side of this issue.
best movie i've seen in a long time
Just saw this movie a few days ago, but this song keeps growing inside me. Really strong and emotional. Terrific movie, becomes easy to get under the skin of the carachters and suffer with them.
Thank you :)
Hands down the best down to earth representation of inner demons we could get in a song
This is something to think about with your son when he needs you!!! This is such a good movie, "Rudderless"
What really made me burst into tears is that all of this movie is actually based on a true story so everything just hits you twice as hard when you figure out the true meaning of the movie
I have listened to this song over 100 times in the last week and its still as emotional as it was the first time I heard it...I find myself counting the stars on days and nights that are trying. Beautiful lyrics and melody.
best soundtrack for any movie, handsdown. also best movie handsdown
Into The Wild's soundtrack is breathtaking as well.
thanks, I'll check it out
Why is this dude an actor? Billy crudup wrote and performed this song and 'Home' What an artist! Just as good as Radiohead! Give this guy a mic and guitar, he'll entertain us all just as good as his brilliant acting!! RESPECT!!
I was downloading another movie on a shit internet while I was watching TV, then this movie started. I forgot about the other movie that I was downloading and just kept watching this one, it is INCREDIBLE, one of the best movies that I have ever watched, I got sad when it ended, but I just can't stop listening to this song
after reading all these comments and never hearing about this movie, I found it and watched it and all I can say is ...POWERFUL, MOVING, TEARFUL, AMAZING, AN EPIC and the MUSIC BAM BAM BAM..love it, a must for anyone to see.
This song should have gotten an Oscar nomination.
An amazing movie. It is so deep. In one hand, you want to forgive that gifted musician who committed that terrible crime after feeling the torments that his father is going through, on the other hand, when you feel for the family of those who got killed you cannot forgive the killer as for no reason he killed those six innocent persons. I love these type of movies which shakes you, makes you appreciate how lucky you are.
From 3 long hours i am trying to remember this song. Finally i found it. The best song ever (lyrics)❤
this song makes me so emotional. Beautiful song and movie, i cried a lot, especially at the end.
Me too 😢
i almost cry viewing this movie
Me too
damn you billy crudup *man tears*
This one of the best movies I have ever seen.
I rented this movie just cuz it looked kinda cool and I liked Anton. Seriously may be my favorite film, especially since Anton died...added mystique. DEFINITELY the best soundtrack of any movie I've EVER heard. I watched it and cried like a baby. This song touched my soul.
I'm a mother to a wonderful sweet 15 month old boy and this breaks my heart so bad.. my son, my son, my son, my son...
I recommend this film to anyone who will listen. It's warm, funny and heavy all at the same time which is testament to Bill Macy and the cast. I couldn't take my eyes off it.
One of the best movie , beauiful songs, great performance
" I wish you were here to sing along"
cant stop to hear the full album...this song is amazing
I cry so much everytime I heard this music.
Such a powerful song/scene. A great way to end this movie. It sucks that this movie didn't get more attention or recognition. Seems a lot of people only like watching movies that don't deal with real issues and hardship.
Heart-wrenching song and movie. It hangs with you long after you've watched and listened. Well done by all involved. 'Love IS the only answer'.
This song will be a part of music history.
10 years since this amazing movie
I saw this movie and the songs are great. i love movies with music in them. the story in this movie had me amazed at the end i did not expect the ending at all. one of the best movies with songs i have seen ever. the last song wraps up the whole story with a much suprise ending that wowed me. i have written the words down and plan to learn that last song no matter how long it takes. what an amazing film a good story thru and thru. not one complaint. just have to watch the whole thing or you would be lost lol and miss the best part. Take a breath and count to ten. best music movie ive seen in a while friends...
Эта песня,мелодия,одна из лучших в этом стиле!Заставляет проникнуться событием и заглянуть в себя!
what a movie. very underrated.
Right that what i think for years
This movie and Reign over me always make me cry.
One of the rare films I watched, then watched again the next day. Really amazing piece of work. So well done.
Fantastic movie! And soundtrack. I just can't stop listening...
Think this last quiet sigh at the end, brings a lot to the entire movie...
What a powerful song. When giving his advice he asks his son to sing along, admitting fault. He also says that we can make the best of everything; nothing is what is was turning the light on; honesty changes all; meaning that his son's actions change things but he wishes he could admit fault and retribute his actions by singing along. When no one claps at the end, his shrug suggests that he understands where the audience is coming from too, but that he still wishes his son were alive and able to at least attempt to reconcile.
VERY GOOD QUALITY OF MUSIC AND THE MOVIE SO SPECIAL SO NATURAL SO REALISTIC AND EVERYBODY SHOULD RESPCET THIS MOVIE . SO LIVE GIVE OPPORTUNIITES TO UNDERSTAND ALL
This movie was too short.. :'(It's such a powerful song
I had no idea what this film was when I watched it and I only got to see it the one time, but it's always stuck with me.
Same bro
What a powerful movie. The idea that there's two sides to each story tears me up. The music is well versed, just beautiful yet heartbreaking.
Great song, great movie!!
Thanks now I’m crying at the bar.
I came across this little gem of a movie on one of the movie networks, I really have to say I enjoyed it. Very well done, great performances, and have to say it was worth my viewing time. The soundtrack was fantastic as well.
im human again! when ever i watch a movie and heard a song like this..the feeling is such...ahhhh.
What a powerful movie, message and song - however tragic its story may have been.
I have been playing this song over since seeing the movie. It's very moving!
Tragedy, Pain and Sorrow.
This song hits harder everytime I listen it... It's like a deep and complexed painting. The more you listen to it the more you get to know the pain and anger behind those eyes...
The irrecoverable pain.
What a fantastic movie with even better soundtracks that you'll never forget!!
This was one of the best films I have seen. Was sad to see it end.
😭😭😭😭😭 always come back to this one
Love this movie. Great song. Good way to finish the movie. Wonderful directing.

So morbid I love it...
This movie was WOW! Made me cry. I watched it also not knowing anything except what the guide said! Amazing and emotional!
Great song. This part got me all choked up.
I woke up with this music, my girlfriend was watching a movie which soundtrack is this music; so I planned to search this beautiful song. Forgot to search. One day passed. But the mood of another movie remembered me today the song. So, after a long quest on google saying to me that 'close your eyes and count to ten' was only in Red Room Cinema, Grouplove and Maddie & Tae... I found her, here on Black Beer channel. Thanks a lot for sharing this beautiful song! Best regards! Best wishes!
Beautiful.......And this was a wonderful beautiful movie......
I watched before 5 years ..... Still this is one of the best movie
This song is so beautiful.
Billy and Anton did AMAZING in this movie.
This song in particular....show of hands🤘.....who could have seen EITHER Cobain...Cornell...Layne...OR Chester doing this tune?!
For artists of today....hmmm....my top 5 choices would probably be:
Eddie Veddar, Aaron Lewis, Brent Smith, Dave Grohl and last but certainly not least...Gavin Rossdale!
I dunno why I have never heard of this film or the actor up until last night .I usually stay clear of these types of films but they got this one right.
Great film. Tore my heart out.
Never failed to make me cry
One of those movies that gets to you think and question life. Loved it, as well as its marvelous soundtrack.
Won't lie, this part got me off guard.. Made me tear down a lil bit too..
