This was my first ever trip to the Maldives and while I didn't score epic waves, I found that it CAN be affordable! Here are some of the costs involved with a budget Maldivian surf venture!! Yewww!
Really appreciate you sharing your experiences and wealth of knowledge of so many breaks around the world. This is exactly the sort of RUclips channel the world needs. no Bullsh_t, no merchandise, just good advice. KUTGW
Another great video and good advice, enjoy the VLOG. Just one thing, while Chickens looks like it is just across the channel and within paddling distance, would advise against doing this. The currents in the Maldives can be insanely strong and change quickly. You might also have to consider paddling back. This is a good way to be swept out to sea quickly, if the sea and lighting conditions are not great, you will be out of view in no time. Far better off organising a boat ride with an expected return time, that way you have someone looking out for you if you do get into trouble or can instigate a search. Solo surf and travel can be fun if you don't act dumb.
Hi mate!! Yeah, you're right for sure!! I never ended up paddling anyway as it's "not allowed" for the exact reason you said I think!! And yeah for the sake of $10 it's not worth it anyway!!
Always appreciate your honest opinions on all these destinations Definitely one of the best channels on RUclips Awesome that you were able to score a solo session Beats a frustrating session any day of any trip Thanks for sharing as always my friend Be well and Stay Safe 👍🤙
This is sort of counter-intuitive, if you want to surf 2-3ft onshore conditions it may well be cheaper to stay home. Crowded surf breaks are definitely not fun, especially if you travel to get away from crowds and score quality waves. Spare a thought for any locals whose home break becomes as popular as this one. A little courtesy (which used to be called surf etiquette) goes a long way. Being a better surfer doesn't necessarily make you a better human being. I was called onto a wave here by a really good surfer (he had already ridden a motza of barrels) and scored of the best waves of my trip. That one kind action can really make a difference and set the tone for the session.@@DanHarmon123
Thank you for the video, just bought my ticket to Maldives and gonna be there from 21 October and then gonna fly to Sri Lanka at least for one month, might be see you around
Love this channel, been to the Maldives on a budget surf trip in 2013, but to the island of Guraidhoo...Greetings from Argentina, come and surf someday here (freezing waves)
Hello, I have seen your RUclips video about the Maldives. My friends and I are planning to do a surftrip. In Thulusdhoo, where you say that you have stayed and where the Cokes spot is located, it seems like a very good area. We would like to move to other spots. My question is In that area where you have stayed, are there any local guides with a boat? Can you negotiate with them, to hire their services for days or hours? I look forward to hearing from you, thank you very much for your attention.
Good one, but ive surfed cokes alot, you didnt mention it gets XL in August like all of the Indian ocean, ive seen it solid 10-12' with 15-20' faces and extreme beatings rips and fkat out dangerous and heavy, you should tell your viewers
Wow!! Yeah, I can't imagine it getting like that, mostly because it was pretty bad when I was there haha!! Sounds well gnarly tho!! However, most of my viewers (myself included) aren't heading here to surf 20ft waves haha!! Thanks for the info :))
Cokes doesnt get 20 foot does it. Saw it 6 to 8 feet. It only picks up SE trade swell. Which kind of peaks at 8 foot at 11 seconds from south east that probably equates to 8 foot.
@DanHarmon123 Hi Dan, thanks for getting back to me. Yeah it was about the same when I was looking. Blows a lot of the cheap get away budget instantly unfortunately. Looks like you two had a great time. Is there going to be a sri lanka episode?
@@DanHarmon123 Thanks as always for your informative clips. I've done a ton of ESL teaching while travelling over the years but considering doing some online stuff now. Any recommendations for schools mate? Cheers

Thanks mate!! That really means a lot!! And yes, definitely rather surf 2-3ft onshore alone than anything with crazy crowds hahha...

How much did it cost your sister to fly return from the UK?
Hey Jay!! She paid £700, London - Male, including a return (but from Colombo, Sri Lanka). Was with Emirates and she booked 2/3 weeks beforehand :)

Is there going to be a sri lanka episode?
If you want to do Maldives on budget, be aware you're gonna see beer only in airport.
Yep for sure!! No alcohol anywhere... something to bear in mind if that's your thing!!
Mal-dee-ves ;)
Hahaha, I still don't have the pronunciation down 😂😂
What work do you do besides youtube?
Hey mate!! I do some online English teaching and freelance content writing! But RUclips is quickly becoming my main job :))
