    Great summary!
The buses are hilarious. I read that the two bus companies race eachother to pick up people

This is what happens when you go to an island without a knowledge. You may have visited on your own. It's always best to have an itinerary (after reading reviews) or travel with a reputable tour agent or perhaps a very good local who can guide you.
Although we have nice surf breaks like arugambay but these places are seasonal. Weligama isn't bad and you don't find locals coming for a swim all day long. I'm sure you may have checked the tide times and made use of your surfing needs.
Road network in down south is amazing unlike in Colombo. You should avoid school and office hours. Agree on the bus drivers but we as locals knows that the authorities are on the watch and they are been fine for driving recklessly.
Tuk tuk drivers will do harras you for a ride but they don't force you to do so. You have meter taxis, Uber and Pick me taxis on apps
Sri Lanka is commercialised even for locals. But it's up to you to decide what you need and what is unnecessary. Simply ignore them..
Of course there are plenty of places to dine with food safety and hygiene standards. I can see in your video that you have gone to a very local restaurant and it is what you get for what you paid for.
You can exchange your foreign currency to local rupees at the airport. So you won't get charged for conversion rates like any other countries. All reputed restaurants and places of attractions accepts card payments.
I hope your trip won't deter returning back to the island. If you need any help. Let me know and of course we can guide you without a single rupee.
All the best and good luck

Where would you recommend staying for an affordable hotel/place that is close to a beach that is good for intermediates (I will bring my 5'11 twin pin)? Which spot is most consistent and powerful? :o

    • @DanHarmon123

Hey Julia! There are so many places!! If you're going in the next couple of months... staying anywhere near Weligama or Mirissa, will put you close to some good spots. I stayed at a place called Cozy Cocos in Midigama! Otherwise, if you're going from April onward, Arugam Bay is the go, both Baby Point and Main Point can have fun waves for intermediates. I stayed at a place called Popoyo Surf Camp! Hope that helps :)

@DanHarmon123 Thanks!! I'll be there February and March. What spots are most consistent and powerful? (I won't have a longboard, I'll bring my twin pin 5'11)
