    I love your resilience, Miss Victoria!! Here you are decades later training and encouraging others to sing.
    Last week I bombed 3 times singing a lead in my church choir for the first time. Froze like a deer in the headlights. I literally felt my voice choking! But as bad as I felt and sounded, I (eventually) realized that it wasn't the end of the world. In a sense I "needed" to bomb and realize I could survive it. I didn't die, I wasn't executed on the spot. I'm learning from failure, and its a lesson I can apply to other areas of my life. A person has to be willing to endure the occasional stink up on the way to excellence. I was singing scales the other day and I realized my range had increased. So I'm going to keep plugging away.

    those are some funny stories!
    I have a story from college days. It was time for piano recitals and i had a difficult gershwin piece to perform. I was still incredibly shy back then and was terrified of having to play in front of the other students and teachers with all eyes on me - can you say panic attack?
    Before it was time to head in, i had brought along some liquid courage - a can of beer, thinking that'd take the edge off. But as i thought about it and all the famous musicians who had alcohol or drug problems, i thought, this was one way it could start. Thinking i had to be buzzed to be able to get out on stage and perform.
    I finally decided before going in that i'd rather be terrified and sober and even if i messed up, i'd know i was strong enough to handle it.
    I didn't play the piece perfectly - had a few minor slip ups on the tricky parts that probably most people didn't even catch and i got through it and it wasn't nearly as bad as i imagined.
    I knew from then on that i would be able to perform in front of an audience without any sort of crutch.

    Hello Ms. Victoria! I have a question, I watched your "Sick" vocal workout video, and you said don't sing if your voice is hoarse when you have a cold. The problem is I have an audition for a musical in a few days and there is no way I can get out of singing. For the first time I was excited and not nervous for an audition and then BOOM I got a cold. 😫 I was wondering do you have any tips that can help. (I'm singing "In My Own Little Corner" from Cinderella)

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  Месяц назад +1

      Do the exercises in the "sick" warm-up video and watch this video that includes what to do if you "have" to sing. ruclips.net/video/avvz2v6sO1w/видео.htmlsi=L1zxHB4fsZMNXuZS. Rely on your resonance, clean vocal fold closure, and do not push your voice.

    So encouraging to hear. Thanks for reminding that we're only human🙏. Singing for 50+ years (semi pro) and still remember the times I bombed early on. But as you say, I learned from each of them and moved forward. One taught me that being overly nervous is counterproductive. A fellow singer at the time was very matter of fact about my flubbing my song and said to me, "No sense to sing in public if you're that nervous." That brought me to my senses about why I sing for others and for myself--in a word JOY. Been relaxed about singing ever since then. The other bomb a few decades ago taught me to never ever ever take any song or my voice for granted by not practicing appropriately (vocally and musically) ... even it's just for a karaoke competition. Had a very slight sinus infection but got up there with minimal chops & thinking I knew the song better than I actually did and embarrassed myself. I knew it as I started that it was a bomb. Lesson learned.

    But my voice is failing me, just doesn’t nor did it ever sound good singing overall. I’m bombing before even considering singing in front of a crowd. Just last night I was thinking that I should just call it quits I feel like I have impossible hope.
