      Keep in mind that these hogs are an invasive species and cause millions in property damage to the farms and pasture's in the area. It's gotten so bad, and hog is so abundant that charity organizations that deal in meat are refusing to accept hog meat.
      EDIT: While what I've stated above is still true, I didn't realize the specific ranch that Eric is at specializes in Hog hunting, so the property damage and invasive nature isn't relevant.

I am turning 21 next month and planning on purchasing my first rifle and pistol. Eric and Barry have inspired me to not only exercise my 2 amendment right but to also be a future safe, professional, and responsible gun owner. I believe it is imperative that we exercise our right to bear arms and show the world that guns aren’t evil! Thanks a lot guys!

    For Americans who are raised in Government Schools and therefore unfamiliar with facts, the Oklahoma estimate is that 420,000+ must be taken each year to keep the pig population from growing.
    I can imagine that in Texas that number is about 2,000,000. No kidding.
    I wanted to mention that pigs eat everything, including deer, Coyote pups, and humans.

      I just think supporting ranches like these: where there's a one hog limit, where they actively feed and sustain the hog population, and on top of that where they have guests shoot coyotes that were running away with the ranches "wild" hogs ignores facts and common sense.
      Go find a farmer that needs some help getting rid of pests. Don't support ranches like this where the owners make a living off of supporting wild hog populations.

Until then don't call anybody a "piece of shit" if the people know how to stick a hog the hog will die sooner than if even shot with a not perfect shot trust me I've done it all when it comes to hogs from sitting in stands like in this video to trapping to hunting with dogs and it still hasn't impacted their population at all. To the people who say it's "wrong" or "sick" to enjoy killing an animal, please don't pretend that you're not a human. Humans are predators and predators enjoy killing prey. You ever see a house cat play with a half dead mouse? That's just straight up TORTURE. But if we enjoy killing a pig humanely with a rifle so that we can eat, what's wrong about that? You don't have to like it too, but you can't call us "sick" for our natural reactions to certain stimuli. For instance, I'm sure some types of people find sex "sick", even though it's completely natural to enjoy it. Don't forget what we are, or where we came from. Hunters, gatherers, and fuckers. :)

      It's a lot more fun than going to the grocery store. I think a lot of people think that their meat was born in that nice neat plastic package... this is much more humane than how some animals are treated in processing plants.

    obviously some folks don't understand. Hogs are considered pests down here, as they tear up hunting and pasture lands, etc so taking out the alphas, be it sow or boar, the others won't have as great of a chance to flourish in that area, by hunting over feed, it puts them right where you want them. This type of hunting is very common throughout the state, and is completely legal, since there's no season or bag limits on them, and suppressed hunts are legal as long as you keep the paperwork on you for the suppressor. in certain places these hogs are considered small, but throughout the whole state, these are average sized. the good thing about these types of pests is that you can eat them, and they help pull in predators when you field dress them, so the two go hand in hand, but it isn't something to take lightly because in large groups, they can kill hunters, that's why you carry a lot of ammo, a semi automatic rifle and a sidearm on the ground with them.

      It is considered ethical to put the animal down with the least amount pain, so if it was a poor shot you should shoot it again, if you are a poor shot you should go for center chest, because that is the most likely place to kill the animal even with a slightly off shot, whereas, shooting at the head, and hitting the jaw may cripple the animal it it may die of dehydration or starvation

      Using a regular AR works well too, you just need to pick your ammo selection wisely. A well placed 64-77 gr. bullet will take them down everytime. If you check out some of the online forums, there's this one guy (username Skypup) that uses a SIG 5.56 almost exclusively for hog hunting. He's dropped some hogs all the way up to over 350 pounds with those 75 gr. pills. Shot placement is king.

    Hogs are out of control. They tore my uncle's farm up so bad this year that he had to replant over 4.4 acres *twice* They will go out and thin down the numbers then they recover so quickly and actually *add* to their numbers that you have to almost have to make hunting them a monthly chore. If *ANYONE* has any problem with this, I will give you the number to my uncle and perhaps you can help pay for all the damage he accrues due to these beast. Kill them all and eat them. As long as they're not to stressed out when they're killed, they are no different than most pork. But if you get one that's been run by dogs, they will be rank as fuck, just cut out the tenderloin and ground up the rest for sausage.

    A great video as usual! I have a question about ammo, .250-3000 Savage ammo by brand name and bullet weigh/design specifically, as fired from a Model 99 Savage. Recently I purchased a 1950s production Model 99 in .250-3000 Savage (yeah, yeah, I know AKA .250 Savage) and immediately ran into the "Out of Stock", "Seasonal Production and Availability Only", and the infamous "The Major Ammo Manufacturers Don't Make That Stuff Anymore" problems. Thankfully I found a place in Montana that had it in stock in two brand names, PCI and Jamison, both loaded with new brass and 100grn Spitzer soft point bullets. After some agonizing, I went with the Jamison brand, ordering 100 rounds, which should arrive any day now. Apparently I don't get out enough and have never heard of either the PCI OR Jamison brands of ammo. Have I screwed myself with Jamison? Should I just shoot the ammo up when it arrives and then reload my own ammo using the resulting once fired brass or is this a reliable brand? I've looked around on the internet and have been unable to find even one review of Jamison or PCI for that matter, and would appreciate and respect your opinion if possible. My .250 Model 99 will be used mostly, if not totally, for mid-long range shots (out to 200+/- yards) on deer (South and North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, West Virginia and possibly Maryland). Would the .250 loaded with such a bullet work, effectively and humanely on boar/feral hogs or should I stick with my .35 Remington and/or .308 chambered Model 99? I know this is a rather long comment/question but I would prefer a answer, based on your opinion and experience, over some YT and "discussion groups" that come to mind at the moment. Thanks again for an excellent video and putting up with an old, tired, wore out Vet's questions. Take care and keep 'em coming!!!!

    • @ElkinsEric
      @ElkinsEric 8 лет назад +1

      FD Mackey whatever you do save the brass and reload it. Never heard of the brand but soft points are usually devastating on deer. If it will kill a deer humanly, then it will smoke a hog too.
      But, that thirty five Remington will hammer a hog, or deer for that matter.

    • @fdmackey3666
      @fdmackey3666 8 лет назад +4

      Thanks Eric Lock!...I've been a fan and user/shooter of the .35 Remington for some years now and subscribe to the "If it's thumped by the .35 it tends to stay thumped" school of thought. I've even managed to pull a couple of my closest friends and hunting partners into the .35 Remington user/owner group. After hunting with MY old Marlin 336 .35 Rem, AND getting one shot kills on sever "eatin' size" bucks and does. Both men now own older Marlins in that caliber. I passed up so many Savage M99s in my misguided youth that when I finally woke up and smelled the coffee about them I had collected a good bit of salt in my hair and about a five pound bags worth in my beard, and have been fortunate, in my opinion at least, to find two M99s in excellent condition. One in .308 Winchester and the other .250-3000 Savage. The problem was, and I knew before I purchased the rifle, that ammo was going be tough to find for the .250. But I've tackled some pretty tough problems in my 60+ years, so I took it as a challenge. And almost got my butt handed to me on a platter when I discovered just how hard it is to locate factory fresh ammo for the .250. I had to ask about the game my .250 could be trusted, within the limits of range, bullet weight and type, and human (me) control because while I had heard and read a few articles, years ago, about it I have never owned, shot, hunted with or known anybody who had any personal, hands on experience with the round. As I was firmly grounded, as a boy hunting with my Dad and Grand Dad, with the concept of killing game humanely with as little expenditure of ammo as possible and "eatin' what you kill" I wanted to make sure I did not push the .250-3000 past it's practical use envelope. Thanks for your kind response and recommendations!

    Don't get me wrong, I understand why these things need to be taken out, the damage they do is unacceptable. And you IV88 do a good job and I don't have a problem with this video. But some hunting videos I see just use pest animals as an excuse to be bloodthirsty and they get some sick pleasure from executing things that can't fight back. It is not the animal's fault, they just do what they do to survive like any animal, they might NEED shooting, but we shouldn't enjoy killing another living thing. Taking pleasure in shooting is fine, taking pride in your marksmanship is fine. But taking pleasure in watching something die, even if it has to be done? No.

      That is exactly the point, the hunt Tim from Military Arms Channel took place in was just cruel and sick, they massacred the hogs inhumanely with FULL AUTO fire! Wtf?

      YOU ARE MISTAKING THE HAPPINESS THEY GET, it not fun, it's rewarding, and all that happiness comes from the success of the moment, not the actual killing. It's a lot of waiting and preparation, driving, walking, and some days you feel like an absolute failure for not even seeing anything, you guys complaining about hunting, are probably novice or never hunted at all.
      As for the "fun", it's probably instinctual to fell a "rush" or relief, our ancestors probably felt the same thing over and over for thousands of years, man hunts, man eats, man is happy. They are not pets, they would eat your cold dead corpse without a seconds though, light em up ghost-rider.

      Firstly, I support hunting for food and population control.
      What I do not support is killing stuff for entertainment. Which
      is what you are doing uploading this video.
      I have just unsubscribed!!

      Who cares how you shoot these vermin? Shit just hose them down with a belt fed as they are a introduced species that breed almost as fast as rats. Go cry on somewhere else if you want a humane killing because these things deserve a bloody dealth.

    Looks like a lot of fun, but treating a nuisance animal as a game animal is not helpful to the infestation problem. You're still leaving way too many of them to live to breed and continue to destroy crops and property. If you would use trap pens, you can catch them an entire sounder at a time and eliminate all of them from the area.

    Enjoyed your video presentation of the SRC .25-45...I was always of a mind that what sportsmen needed was an intermediate caliber/cartridge that would be light, accurate, and economical and versatile for different platforms. There will be many proponents and opponents to this new cartridge, each with their supportive statements for their favorite caliber. SRC has done their homework well, and apparently achieved this objective...Congrats, hope the shooting community will give this new line a fair test and the .25-45 will join the ranks of good shooting calibers
