another tip you could do is when you're setting the gradient down you hold shift to have a completely straight line

Subscribed and liked after watched this video. You gave a unique approach how to use a gold texture. Before that I was familiar with several methods: using metal colors of swatches libraries; using prior prepared picture of metal and further use of clipping mask to object; just solid color selection with eyedroper. Here you showed how to builld well-ordered gradient with eyedroper tool and apply it to text and logo. A big thanks for new design discovering!

Mircea, you have a point, and I tried it your way and it does work, if you want a basic gradient filled font/logo. There is a massive difference between the two methods however, based on the finished product when you follow the 4GArt tutorial. (I know that this post is 3 years old, but I thought that I would comment as I was searching for a solution and found this video, and thought that someone else might find the info useful).

Alternate, somewhat easy way to make the layered text would be to offset path, cut the selection, paste in place and just group the offset and arrange them to the back. Then you have a front group and a back/edge group without needing a stroke or individually doing the operation or missing the selection. The rest is great though.
