We have a local Amish store that carries dried soup greens(Peppers, Onions, Carrots, Potatoes, and Cabbage). Excellent to add to your ramen to boost nutritional value. Also a bit of freeze-dried beef, is an good addition.
i do that too. i add some dehydrated cabbage and carrots, soy sauce and chicken or shrimp respectively. two pkgs noodles 1 flavor packet. makes two good meals.
Agreed. I add all kinds of stuff to ramen. Peppers, carrots, corn, meat chunks, etc. Tomato juice is good. A few tablespoons of quick barley will stretch it.
i'm subscribing to your channel for the simple fact that you dont try to shove products down the viewers throat. thank you so much for being so helpful and down to earth
I misread the title and thought you would be testing a MRE for a two year old. 😋 I was thinking, wow I have a two year old, maybe I’ll learn something. 😃
I had made several of my own after watching your original video and got them out and tested some as well! I had not put peanuts in mine but some jif single serve peanut butter packets. they were still good so im hoping they don't go rancid. thanks for another great video
You know I usually comment when I don't like one of your videos. I'm not even done with this video and I had to come in to tell you how freaking awesome it was 👍👍👍 you should really tune the metadata for this video, I think it could be a very popular one. Great job and thanks for sharing.
I have had that happen with the seal on some of mine and it happens when I put in noodles or something that has open spaces in it and I think it is because all the air isn't taken out of those spaces.
When you have stale carbs, you can often bake them and make them edible again. Not every time or everything, but many items will work out. Best try it out with whatever stale items you have and decide for yourself.
My daughter complained that her chips/crackers always get stale before they eat them. (The kids tend not to clip the bags back tight 🙄) I told her that I often "baked" chips and crackers at a low temperature in the oven when they were at school so that it took the moisture out and they were crispy again. She had 3 separate bags of corn chips that were stale, so we cranked up the oven and toast them about 10. Maybe 15 minutes. Let them cool and put in a big zipper bag. They were just as nice as when they were first opened. Grandkiddos were impressed and thought grammy was a genius lol
I'm going to invest in a food saver, and then make some of these MRES. I should be able to save some money by making my own. Thank you for sharing this.
@@debbiekerr3989 Foodsaver is the best of the sizes like this. Perfect for one or two people. For a larger family, I'd buy a commercial one. I've had and killed 2 Foodsavers but I love it. The bagging is not cheap but often I reuse them..don't wait. I also bought the caps to vacuum jars, too. Well worth the costs
I gave up on the food saver and the like vacuum bags. I've had very bad luck with the seal failing. Many of my sealed bags failed to hold a vacuum. I have switched over to using heavy mylar bags with O2 absorbers. I've only had one bag fail. Write out on the outside of the bag what is inside and the date sealed.
The Walmart in Houston TX (Dunvale) has plenty of Mountain House entrees. Beef Stew, Lasagna, Chicken and Dumplings, Breakfast Skillet and Chicken and Rice marked down to $7, Biscuits and Gravy $6 and ice cream sandwiches $2.50
good review and demo of your homemade MRE, yes the peanuts wouldn`t hurt you other than the stale taste but for 13 year old past the best by date they looked ok
O.o Those peanuts are older then my 13yr old daughter!?! 😆 Lol Quick drink a shoot of vinegar! I love your videos way to much the lose you to a peanut!
Why no oxygen absorber? I know they are closed containers but it might help getting all of the air out of the foodsaver bag. Maybe a few pinholes if you are going to keep them in the containers. I would be more concerned about the plastic leaching into the food so I would take what I could out of the original containers. 🌻
I never really worried about an oxy absorber, as all the food is sealed, might help keep the package sealed tight but the others I have made back then are just as tight as the day I packed them, that's sort of why I chose this one, it wasn't as tightly packed as the others :) As for leeching, I would not worry too much about it, as for the most part, you would need to heat the plastic for it to leech.
I hate to ask if you’ve said it in another video, but what bags do you seal the food in specifically? Is it a peel-and-stick situation or do you use a tool to seal them?
How old was the ramen? I've wondered how long they stay good considering that they are fried and may have oil in them(?). If they don't get rancid that's good news. Oil going rancid is why nuts don't last long.

We have a similar store. Get a lot of my spices there too.

WinCo also sells a dehydrated soup veggies mix.
Thank you, George.

Great ideas, love your channel. Hello from Southern California..
Since i viewed one of your earlier videos about homemade MRE's I've been making quite a few of my own. Thanks for the great idea!
Excellent video!👍
Thanks for the update!
Thinking of making some of these over buying one of those emergency food buckets because I can pick the things I like

thanks, George. Been doing the same for thirty years.
I’m going to make my own now for my bug out bag, I already liked and subscribed my good man, keep up the good work 👍
That sure is an interesting product stand there

Throw the peanuts in with the Ramen, they will freshen up with the hot water.
I do that with older cashews, works great
Awesome bud. Like you said just a few bucks and you can have a grab and go tote slap full. I like the idea
Great video, love your channel, great useful information which even applies to me over in Scotland, god bless 🏴

@@Emeraldwitch30 That's because grammy IS a genius! 😀
Thanks for the idea's!!!
You could use the water to wash up stuff with.
Good vid, you can do a LOT with a vacuum sealer and just grocery store foods. Glad you passed on the stale nuts!
you can add the nuts to the noodles and chicken that would be great

Dont get a cheap one. I love mine.
@@sharoncorippo4069 What kind did you get? I was thinking about a food saver.

Don't skip on bagging. Most bags are 3-ply but FoodSaver bags are 5-ply and well worth the money
Thank you very much for the good advice. I'm definitely going to buy a foodsaver.
I too add dried veggies to most soupy things. Good dinner 💞💞💞💞
A Vacuum bag sealer is so handy.
Those emergency water packets probably stay "safe" but they get a bit of a flavor from the packaging after a while.
If the peanuts were the worst part, your winning!
If the peanuts were good or a peanut butter packet would be great in the chicken and noodles with the soy sauce. Have fun stay safe.
If the peanuts taste stale just throw them in with the Ramen at the end of the cooking time and it should knock off that stale flavor
I like the canned corn beef and instant mashed potatoes. Its salty as hell, but tastes good.

Good job. F.Y.I., I went to our local Wal-Mart yesterday in Tawas, Michigan and all the Mountain House food was gone.

i need to check mine
What a great video
I finally completed my homemade M.R.
E. I FINALLY RECEIVED MY CAPRISUN POUCHES.

Hello, I love your channel. What stove is that?
I put peanuts in my Ramen soup. It's good, and it's protein and dietary oil.
I will have to try that, sounds good.
A spoonful of peanut butter stirrred into the broth also works..
How old was the ramen? I've wondered how long they stay good considering that they are fried and may have oil in them(?). If they don't get rancid that's good news. Oil going rancid is why nuts don't last long.
That ramen was probably about 4 years old Tasted just like a new one.
Awesome! Thanks George.
Do you recommend packing bottled water?
If you can find the packets of emergency water its not a bad idea but honestly i would carry it separate from the meals
Reroast the peanuts in a dry pan
Oh good idea
did it taste good or gummy it looks alright, stay safe my friend
It was really good!
