- In this video, I show you how to wire and set up an Arcade Coin Door / Coin Mechanism Acceptor on your Raspberry running RetroPie.
This X-Arcade Coin Door is one of the best coin doors in have found so far and I can defiantly recommend for your Arcade build.

I have to say, man... You're really good at explaining things. This is a great addition to a home cab!
I patiently waited 5 months to get my coin slots from X-Arcade. Can't believe it took that long but glad I finally got it! I love your videos man, great job!
Wow a psychic who knows exactly what tutorial I was gonna search for. 😁
Based on the comments I read every time, yeah, I have to agree, you're constantly making videos to address every possible question. You're the man!
My wife and I picked up an arcade1up with the intent of modding it and your tutorials have been crazy helpful. We joked about using it as a coin bank but after watching how easy it is I think I'm actually going to go for it!
How did that build go? Thinking about putting it in my restaurant
Great video once again, great addition to a home arcade, makes the whole experience legit.
Love this! I'm definitely going to add a coin acceptor once I build an arcade.
ETA Prime, you're my hero! So many of your videos have helped me with projects...thank you so much for making these great tutorials!! Worked perfectly!
Another great tutorial, ETA! Always wondered if this could be done...dream solved! 👍
perfect, now i just need an ATM machine in the living room and i'm set!
the hits keep coming, thank you for all the great content!!
Nice! I hope to build an arcade in winter. And this makes it a perfect machine.
Man, you have so many good things to try I can never keep up. I just have a playlist full of your content that I can one day get to. Lol
This is my way of saving money 😂
Same bud
Hey, thanks for this video man! I've been researching this recently, and yours really makes it easier.
Great video like always ETA PRIME!
Wow I have not heard that coin sound in probably 10 years. Very cool. I would probably want to put a coin door in mortal kombat, final fight, or pacman.
Like Always Thnx For The Video ETA PRIME!! Very easy to follow ...
The Best coin Door for proyect arcade, thank you for tutorial!!!
You always have the best tutorials!
I’ve actually wanted to do this for a while!
ETA Prime your the best. Keep up the great arcade tech videos.
Should I really charge my wife to play? HELL YEAH! No, but seriously ETA Prime, you are the man!
Another one! Seriously thank you for the tutorials
ETA prime needs his own tv show ..
YUNVMY COOLNAME Right? Doesnt he remind you of those old Do it zyourself shows from the 80,'s and 90s?
But if he needs his own show, RUclips is a perfect platform. He would just need to rethink how he makes content and make it more "Show" like.
That’s really cool, nice job. You do great videos
Excellent Video. I have the Arcade Coin Door With single Coin Mech from X-Arcade. two quick notes it only works with US Quarters and the plug is used to illuminate the reject button. it is not needed to register the coin credits. Note You need something inside you cabinet to catch your coins. I recommend you use the splitter connection cable otherwise you are going to need a lot of quarters or need to constantly retrieve your coins from the cabinet. You arcade will double as piggy bank.
I am thinking about getting a streetfighter fame and putting it in a high traffic bar.. can you set it to where it is 50c per play?? Can you really charge money or is it only for show?? Donyou think you could wire this to charge by card?
That was an awesome video great job I know when I build my cabinet I'm deathly going to put one of those on my
I have stock coin acceptors at home. Time to put them to some good use. Good upload!
All good vids from you. Great job.
So good!
Thx for the really insightful video.
Thats a great video, Thank you!
Sweet!! I didnt realize the power source for the coin selector's lamps would be a wall outlet plug. I thought it would be a simple 5v wires. Plug directly to the pi for power.
I'm sure that can be modded
Great job 👍👍👍
this is awesome, thanks!
Grand total of $95 for me, thanks ETA prime. First build … newbie here.
thnk you for this mr Prime 😀
Thanks!
Now I'm gonna officially build my own cab. I always wanted to make a 4 player cab running all the best titles.
Just a totally awesome channel,thankyou
It's a whole lot simpler than I thought.
Thanks for the video Prime!
It always amazes me how clearly you explain things.. Better than ALL of my professors!! ...........except for one, but he does not count since the class was European History :(
That is awesome
amazing!!!! thank you!!!!
Thanks I see the link already Thanks
Hey the cool part about it is it can also be a bank as well so you can save money and also charge your company when it come over to play it best of both worlds
i use the single version in a mini Tron i built. they work great. but in mine, i added a microswitch so when you push in the coin return, it also adds a credit.
I miss these types of videos
Cool trick
Radical!!
888 likes 8 dislikes lol but why would you dislike this video?? Your awesome ETA PRIME, you did it again!
The missing link to making things feel legit!! Bravo sir
Thx
great video!! can you show us how you actually mounted the coin door to the arcade? I’m guessing the front kick panel needs to be reinforced with cross bars of some sort (unless it’s solid already) thanks!
Great video man! Only issue I could see is if you quit a game you lose your credits they don't carry game to game
I’ve been following your videos to build my first arcade cabinet. I am adding the single slot coin door that you recommended in this video. I am not sure which connectors to purchase to have a coin slot and select button piggybacked together. Would you please respond with the type needed or a link to them? Thanks for all your help. Your videos made it so easy.
Awesome vid!!! So easy to follow instructions!!! Is it possible to toggle between free play and pay to play??? Just when the boys come over I can have quarters ready for that nostalgic feel but when the kids play it's free play???
Can you show how you're going to add the coin mech? I just got my Alpha cade today and might consider adding a coin slot to it
Thinking about putting two cabinets into two local bars. I haven’t installed any money mechs yet but I was thinking that I should just take bills being as it isn’t 92 anymore. I’ll cut the bars a small cut from weekly payment and see how it goes.
Looks neat, 20 years ago i folded a bit of alloy and put in what was Cheap back then $60 for a single coin acceptor
i linked in to one of the Buttons i had for Coin, now both work (Free Play or Coin)
Like you i linked in to one of the Buttons i had for Coin, now both work (Free Play or Coin), and also Side Buttons for Pinball Games
Best piggy bank replacement one can possibly DIY. ( given of course the individual has some spending discipline)
Thank you a lot this was a great tutorial
Can we add a bill acceptor to ??
Thanks again
Right before I seen this video, I was wondering if it was possible to add a real coin mechanism to it. Thanks.
I purchased the same one. Works great only thing that sucked is that the power supply went out first day. The X arcade people were good about getting it taken care of quickly.
I just need a kill switch so I can charge my friends lol.
you can..it's easily done😁
Since you can have multiple diferent binds for diferent emulatros I would just make select be select in console emulation and coins in arcade
You can buy a door for the multicoin accepter you showed in at the start of the video. They come pre cut out ready for use. You can get them from arcadeworld.
I actually saw that last night they even sell double doors. I might pick that up for the Arcade1UP
Any Door can be a Door to Match your Cab, and Coin Acceptor's can be bought separately, or twin or light-up, the choice is your's,
When i built a Mame Cabinet many years ago, not much in the way of choice, as price's where high, You guy's today are so lucky, i would be making these things by the Dozen
Nicely done! Is there away to carry credits over to another game?
ETA PRIME i always watch your videos full of information. what theme are you using on RetroPie in this video
Hello. Thank you for your explanation. The cable that cames out from my zero delay encoders led are 3. How i can find the proper One to be connected to the Coin acceptor switch?
this is really cool. I wonder if the coin acceptor can be set to use tokens from that rat pizza place. or, make some slugs that fit & sell them to my nephews when they want to play
ETA prime is boss
Perfect and thank you very much great job 👍 do you have the link for coin slot i like to buy 2 of this items ?? Thanks again
Did you cut off the end of the 12v power supply to attach the right connectors for the encoder/Pi? If so can you give a few simple steps on how you did this? Thanks for the vid
Nice tutorial video. Question: will it also work with EmuELEC?
One of these days I’ll have a home with enough room to build something awesome like this.
Can you please recommend the brand of the game controllers you used in this video, the joystick and buttons. Where did you buy yours?
Great video! I have a question though. What exactly are the ‘quick connect’ pieces he is using? And how do you connect the using the wires that cane with the coin mechanism. It’s probably very simple, I have zero wiring experience. Maybe there is a video showing how to do it?
Also, if someone can provide a link to the ‘quick connect’ product on Amazon, it would be much appreciated.
cool so i can also install a Sacoa RFID arcade reader to the Arcade1up machine in combination with Retropie.. i work for an redemption center, which have those devices laying around.. it would be cool to charge people a little bit of money (25cnt) just to play on the Arcade1up :)
Showing how to bind buttons per emulator is a thing. I had a bind A to my Stella core to get my Retrolink Classic Atari 2600 controller to work. Pressing Select + X brings up Retroarch were the correct button binding can be set. Stella defaulted B instead of A for fire button. I had to set A for button.
I see this version use only quarter dollar, I have to change the coin mech if I want something else so is cool. door but if. I have to buy extra the coin mech is useless.. I need something else, the door is cool. and the video is nice thank you
Make some custom tokens.
Can you please make one setting up the cheap coin acceptor to a arcade setup I've been having trouble with mines
I wired up mine with the ability disable the credit button. with a switch behind the coin acceptor door. to force people to pay😁
can you link where you got the quick connects used in the video please? I am stuck on that part.
As an electronics engineer I do not recommend twisting any cables together it is always best to soldering the wires together and heat shrinking them up
so how does one use both select button and a coin slot button? like a coin button on the front aswell as the coin slot so you can choose to use either?
Do you have a tutorial on how to do this on the Atgames’s legends? And where did you buy that coin door?
That's it!!!... i've had enough!!!.. ETA do you mind giving me the measurements of the arcade so i can build one?
Franco Enzio reddit
So question. If i wanted to keep 3 buttons on top (rampage cab) can you bind the middle button to both encoders?
Might make a couple and put them places to make money
can you do a video about your I-PAC encoder and why they are good?
Can you do a tutorial on one of those cheap coin acceptors? I am trying to install a CH-616, but I can't get it to work properly
ETA Prime. SECOND QUESTION: I see you connected both coin acceptor and the select to be the same and the SELECT button will work for SNES games. What if you configure the SELECT button as select instead of inserting coin? Will it then bypass the coin acceptor? This way, you can choose to go back to using regular SELECT for arcade games and allows you configure whenever you need to use the coin acceptor? Is my assumption correct?. Hope you can answer my first question.
*NOTE* I got a generic Amazon coin acceptor (model # ch-296) and apparently those kinds of coin acceptors send a low constant pulse signal to the USB encoder making it think I'm constantly putting a coin in. I ordered this double slot coin door from X-arcade so I'm hoping this works because I have this same setup
hey is there any way to set these games to free play for when i just want to play on my own without having to find a quarter? or perhaps have a button as well as the coin acceptor connected as the same input
Just to recap. I already have a arcade build finished with a coin and select button wired and working. Now I want to add the coin mech, but I want to still be able to use the coin button if I don't feel like using the quarters. So all I have to do is tap off the working coin button to run the coin mech correct? Then both will be working at the same time giving me the option to use both, right?
Hi could you tell me please how to connect simple multicoin acceptor with timer box to arcade controller?
Now, how-to make it, so credits carry over when you switch games :-)
GO!
You could use a seperate diy counter circuit connecting to the select button, similar to RAM to hold the memory. And You could have a switch/button to activate the circuits output. Although it wouldn't be integrated with the software and would essentially double your credits, so if you put lets say five credits in and you use up 1-5 credits and switch to a new game you still have five unused credits.
You should show if you put in anything other than a quarter. Does it reject it?
