It's so heartening that you were able to put your addictions behind you. I just lost my eldest grandson a week ago to a drug overdose. He was one day shy or his 27th birthday and was like a son to me. We are all so devastated by his loss - it still doesn't seem real.

Lover Man was a song Jimi usually did live but isn't on a studio album. It is a customised version of an older blues song but I forget which.

Of course, that was a cover, because it was done by Cream, obviously, first.
As we all know, one of the half-dozen best guitarists ever, Eric Clapton, play this song entirely different than Jimi. And he played it great, only different. If you haven't reacted to the cream version, you should because then you get the added pleasure of the lyrics. And I loved that Jimi played it without lyrics, which made it easier to focus on the music itself.
If you were.to play the cream version soon, it'll be a great comparison.

On September 18, 1970 I was in Miami, walking down the street with my boyfriend and a couple of other guys who were on their way from Puerto Rico to Bolivia in the Peace Corps. We were stopped in our tracks by a newspaper headline that said Jimi was gone. A few months earlier I'd been at his last concert in the continental US, at a small outdoor stadium (Sick's Stadium) in Seattle, his home town and mine. Yes, we had the best music, and we also had some of the most gut wrenching tragedies in music in it.

The entire Winterland set is worth getting hold of Lee. Even if it's only for your own listening pleasure and not a reaction, the box set will make your hair stand up and your jaw drop. It's 3 complete shows and another disc of highlights from the remaining shows.

Dude, YOU Lee,Man, are a very groovy dude, incredibly sincere and genuine, yeah you and Jimi would've gotten along great I feel and believe. Lover Man was Jimi's version of "Rock Me Baby" if you listen to it frm the Show at Monterey, YOU'll see its the same song with Jimi spin on it, which is amazing in and of itself. Jack Bruce after seening Jimi the night before, while trippin his ass off, wrote this song Sunshine of your Love,in a dedication to Jimi but Jimi never knew that it,in fact, was just for Him and yet he Jimi is doing a song for the Cream of which loved, yet it was about it. Sing on Brother, Play on drummer.

I thought Lover Man was a Jimi original, but not sure. This must be an early version of it - it got a lot tighter and more developed later. Great version of it at at Berkely 1970 ('In the West' album straight after Johnny B. Goode - quite a one-two punch!). Funkier with more swing (Billy Cox on bass) and a crazy fun guitar solo which goes into and out of 'The Flight of the Bumblebee' - you can almost smell the guy's fear as he races to get away.

Must have been the flames painted on my car!! But, , fantastic album!!

You missed the last track on Electric Ladyland - Voodoo Child (Slight Return). Some confusion over Voodoo Chile / Voodoo Child (Slight Return) understandably. Two totally different tracks. Voodoo Child (Slight Return) is shorter and punchier with peak Jimi guitar. One of his big statement pieces
