Steve Woodruff, you are the best example of the heart and soul of America! When Servco Toyota in Hawaii told me it would cost $10,000.00 to replace my MFD (yeppp & without blinking), I dislodged my MFD using your video, sent it to your address, and BAM!!! $299 later, all systems GO! I just sent you an email with a pic of my MFD's reverse camera working beautifully. . Thank you for paying the return postage, and providing the 12-month warranty as well. You have restored my faith in the automotive world!
Thank You! and.. to all our customers.. Be advised the " park Vent" may be fragile! especially in hot climate conditions. use caution not to fracture it.
Wow, It really was that easy! I have ZERO experience with cars so it didn't take me 2 minutes LOL. But between taking apart and reassembling (so my wife could drive while we waited for repair) and then doing it again for reinstall? About 40 minutes with me taking my time! When I think how much other places wanted to charge me! Thanks again folks, a great service for an extremely fair price!
Great video and service. The new price of $299 is great and includes a 12 month warranty; dealer quoted repair was $2k. Took me 30 minutes going slow and careful to remove the unit and then 10 minutes to put back in after receiving the repaired unit. Thanks!
I'm a mechanic getting back into the game who hadn't done this on a Prius before. This helped me with how to remove the power button panel and 2nd vent you removed. Thank you!
Wow, 2 minutes and 27 seconds! I have been dreading this for weeks. Now the gauntlet has been thrown and the challenge accepted. LOL Fantastic DIY video! Keith. THANK YOU!
I followed the video and had very little trouble getting the MFD out. I sent it to the company for repair and it could not be repaired because of a hardware (CPU) failure. They gave me great service, did all they could to fix it and sent it back no charge. A good company and service tech.
Note: If the car has been parked mostly in the sun in warm weather (like California) for the last 16 years those panel parts have become very brittle from the constant sun exposure and could practically break apart in your hand while you try to pull them out. Proceed with caution. Give them a straight horizontall pull.
i have seen maybe 80 percent of these in junkyards completely brittle to the point it doesn't matter how carefully they are removed. however recently some really good after-market replacements have become available on the market in the usual places.
Break apart is an understatement. Explode into a million pieces is more like it. And whatever plastic they are made of seems impervious to superglue or epoxy. Luckily there are cheap Chinese replacement ones available.
Just got my 2009 Prius MFD back from Steve and installed it. Works like it new. Excellent service, appreciated the care in shipping, double boxing the MFD. He also deals in used Toyota parts, supplied a like new roof rubber molding too.
Quick. easy, to the point, thank you! I watched a couple times then changed out the unit in about 1/2 hour. Note -- If you are sourcing the MFD from a local recycler, be aware that there are several part numbers, depending on your cars factory optional equipment. They are NOT interchangeable. My 2008, with JBL stereo and no Nav, was Part # 86110-42710. You might want to pull your old screen FIRST and check the model number.
Steve, you and your company rock! I just got my unit back today and installed it. It was like new. To the dealerships that told me that the repair/replacement would cost $4,000 and 2-3 weeks to program (the bulk of the cost), you can suck it!
Great video. I sent my mfd to Steve and now it works great! Very quick turn around! My mfd had become intermittent and then went black. Thanks Steve for a great service!!
You're instructions are so much better than Toyota's TIS, with TIS they're like "instructions to remove MFD: unbolt and remove MFD" they're kinda a joke sometimes but sometimes its good but this video shows how freakin easy this really is. Thank you!
Followed the instructions for removing the MFD from my 2006 Prius and everything went great! I then sent the unit into their service and they fixed it and returned it all for $299. I had to call them because I never received the email with the invoice, even after checking my spam folder, and they were very helpful. Highly recommend the video and the service in case your touch screen is not working properly. Awesome folks.
Well it took me about 5 minutes, not rushing, as some panels require a LOT of force to pull off and I was timid about breaking something. Unfortunately that is just what happed with the two narrow vent sections on either side of the display. Both of them broke in half at the weakest point were the vent adjustment slide nob is. There is less the half an inch of plastic there for the structure. So be VERY CAUTIOUS with those pieces!!!! Mine is an 2008 from NM so the excessive heat may have made the plastic a bit weak. I am not selling mine so I can repair it with no worries but BEWAIRE!
Thanks for the repair job. Took 10 days in total but at least was cheaper than $500 for a replacement. If I ever get a bad screen in a prius, I'm taking the screen out and checking the price before I buy the car.
I was looking for a video on how to remove the vents and this came up! Wow, this looks easier than I thought. I was worried it would be hard to get them out.
FYI - To match the right Model # of the MFD call the dealer with your VIN and they can tell you what replacement part is needed. Easier than taking apart to match up the MFD.
Guess what everyone!!!!! If screen is black...Unplug 3 connectors from back battery by taillight for 2 hours and then plug back in VOILA ! I've done this twice and always works. Also, if screen is on but touching doesn't work, use a corner of a business card or paper and go around edges and push around screen.
The video was very easy to follow and right to the point, so I'm very handy with things around the house and some car so it took me a bit longer but I was able to remove, ship the MFD and re-install it without any broken part and it's working like new .... TY Steve
@@Bruh-wz5ww nope its was simple but take your time and use a light touch, like in the video you will need a 10MM socket or nutdriver and a flat and Phillip screwdrivers. I used painters tape and labeled the wiring from where they were detached from and just go slow and refer back to the video if you have any issues ...BTW you can drive the car with the MDF removed , and the radio, climate heat/ac will work with the MDF removerd ...hope this helps
also the staff AutoBeYours has been very supportive and helpful every time I needed to call them, any questions call them or if you were to break a plastic dash part they haven them in stick probably most any year Prius
Thanks for the great video. I bought a used 2009 from a repeat customer yours in St. Louis who sales cars. He said you might be able to help me out a little on the price. The MFD is totally dead. It worked for about a week after buying it and then it would just be a white screen only. Then it would just be black after the Toyita logo came on.. Now it’s totally dead. It won’t come on at all.
Just got my Prius MFD back yesterday and installed it today. IT WORKS! Heck its been so long doing without I'll have to figure out the menus again. So far so good. It did take a minute or so to boot up so I was kind of worried at first, but then the lights came on. :-) Steve is also on track with his timing for repair. I never e-mailed him or called him. Just followed the instructions and Voila! Mark
Hi Steve, My MFD went bad, but also my power mirrors and AC outlet stopped working. Could this be related to my MFD. I will be sending you my MFD shortly.
A. Love that the category for this video is comedy 😂. B. How much more work is it to get the combo meter out? I need to fix a capacitor on it but other RUclips videos make it seem like hours of work.
How long did it end up taking you? I estimate for a new person about 1 hr for removal and 45 minutes for reassembly. If you have experience working with cars it could be as low as 20 mins out and 10 mins in. Although Steve makes it look easy here to get to the MFD it's far from typical for average home repair.
I have the navi w/ back up cam on my unit. All is functioning properly, just my screen is cracked and broke. Is it possible to source just a screen and replace it since the hardware is still in working condition?
Hi Steve, do the menu , climate, etc buttons on gen 2 center info console light up? At night I can’t see the buttons…such pain … can’t believe Toyota would not light these buttons… let me know… thanks Frank
Hey Steve I have a connection on the monitor that two wires came off. Is there any way you could tell me how they go. It is a black and red small wire connection the two wires broke out of the connector
Hi, we have a 2006 and this display AND the radio display are not illuminating, however the radio does work as does the climate control using the steering wheel controls. Is this likely to be a fault with both units? I've checked all the fuses and they all seem correct and good. Many thanks, Owain.
If i can see the screen partially in the daytime and gets better at night time. would the be an issue with just the outer screen replacement or would that be the actual internals of the display?
My screen and functions work fine, but it is 13 years old (2006) and the screen is starting to dim to the point it is getting difficult to see in the sunlight. Do you replace the screen?
Hi Steve- Wondering if you will be able to help me; my screen went dark awhile back (along with backlit buttons) but will occasionally come on and work as normal. When it does, it has no backlog of power usage info, which seems to suggest not just the screen, but the whole system has been offline. Also my Prius is an 09 but has more buttons lining the screen than the one in this video. Do you work on those as well?
My 2008 screen works fine but it got all cloudy with a blotchy, dotted pattern so it is difficult to see in bright light. It looks like some kind of delaminating. Can you fix that?
I know this post is Aug. 2015 but I live in Hawaii and my multifunctional panel is barely visible. I have a 2009 Prius and would like to replace it. Would I be able to get it repaired or replaced in a few days?
My unit on a 06 Príus has a black screen that will only show the Toyota logo in it sometimes but will fade in 3 minutes after, how mucho will it be to repair this and what is the warranty? Thanks
Hi, I have a 2012 Prius Hybrid the screen goes on every time a press it for about two seconds then off. It does not stay on for me to navigate, but it looks like is working fine when I am pressing the settings. Any suggestions?
i have a question, on my Prius display screen, i kind of scratched it with my nail but the scratch does not look like a scratch nor dead pixels,,,it looks like more like a mark that i could not seem to get off, as if it is behind the screen layer or something... my guess that the mark might be on the protector screen of my display screen, the problem is how do i find out if my display screen has a screen protector or not ? this way i do not have to change the whole MFD...Thank you so much
original denso glass does not have a protector, nor does the replacement we use. I suggest ignoring the blemish as it likely wont wont up when the screen is ON.
thanks for getting straight to the point with no production at the beginning
You are welcome, I dont waste your time , and I hope others will do the same.
im way late, but i miss videos the are not a vlog for 13 mins before getting to the point.
I am amazed at the due diligence put into helping the viewers understand what to do step by step.

I watched your video, ordered an MFD off eBay for $298.00 and thanks to you, had it changed in minutes. Thank you!!
Wow, It really was that easy! I have ZERO experience with cars so it didn't take me 2 minutes LOL. Great video and service. The new price of $299 is great and includes a 12 month warranty; dealer quoted repair was $2k. Took me 30 minutes going slow and careful to remove the unit and then 10 minutes to put back in after receiving the repaired unit. Thanks!
$2k is crazy, I replaced the digitizer on it for $30 on my own!
Video helped me to replace a broken dash trim panel. Thanks for clear, easy to follow directions.
Keith. THANK YOU!
A perfect transaction. Payment, shipping, everything--MFD came back in 1 week double boxed and working great!

John is right, please be aware the vents are brittle
I am in California and you are right. The vent pieces practically shatter as you take them out. Had to hit the pick a part yard for replacements.
i have seen maybe 80 percent of these in junkyards completely brittle to the point it doesn't matter how carefully they are removed. however recently some really good after-market replacements have become available on the market in the usual places.

Wish I had read this before I just did mine! Broke the two vent sections in half. LOL
Amazing!!! You just saved myself 150 bucks!!
I was able to do this repair myself thanks to your video, saved me a lot of money.

This is an EXCELLENT video. Gave me the confidence to just tackle my removal...not quite as fast as you, but I did it, and THANKS!
Quick. easy, to the point, thank you! I watched a couple times then changed out the unit in about 1/2 hour.

Good video, Steve! I appreciate how you keep it fast and simple. Thanks!
You are the man! I didn't even bother to look at the others.
You're instructions are so much better than Toyota's TIS, with TIS they're like "instructions to remove MFD: unbolt and remove MFD" they're kinda a joke sometimes but sometimes its good but this video shows how freakin easy this really is. Thank you!
Excellent production job on this video, one of the best I have seen with the inserts at the right times.
You're the m-effin man!! As an avid DIYer this video was detailed and spot on! Keep up the good work!
Excellent straight to the point awesome awesome Steve
Thanks Steve, this was just what I needed to get the job done. Much appreciated.
I appreciate you getting right to the point! Great video Thanks
What a great and concise instructional video, Nice job!
Followed the instructions for removing the MFD from my 2006 Prius and everything went great! I then sent the unit into their service and they fixed it and returned it all for $299. Thanks for the 'how to' video. Sent inoperative MFD, correspondence, price and turn-around time great. Thank you for the great service.
Thank you for the easy to follow how-to! Dealership wanted 8k for new part and install on my 09 worth maybe 5k....
Sending my screen off tomorrow. This video was super helpful!
Fantastic tutorial, thank you so much for posting this!!
Was just wondering how to remove the airvent on the right side... Thanks!!
Thank you Steve. Guide was perfect.
Thanks for sharing your time and talents. Aloha

Roger that brother thank you very much....I will be taking my wife’s dash apart in the morning. Thanks a million
Thanks for this, I am picking one up today, that the display goes dark at times, I am sure I will be sending it in soon.
Great video, worked great. Thanks!
Thanks for the info came out easily now to replace the screen myself

Geico hire this man for your commercials
DAAAAAADGUUUM THAT WAS QUICK !!!! Thank you for the tutorial.
Excellent tutorial
Really did take about 2 minutes! You rock Steve. Any suggestions on packaging?
I assume a box and bubble wrap? Packing now.
i love when customers say cant you just take the stereo out its easy

EXCELLENT, thank you.
You the man! Thank you.
Thank you!!
I'm impressed. Gonna see if I can do it that fast on my car.
Not quite as fast, but this video worked great and I used it to start the fix on my instrument cluster.
Can you upgrade to the navigation MFD or higher levels of entertainment system this way?
Great vid. I misunderstood the first part. I thought there was a screw on the bottom of the first vent. There isn't. Just pry it out.

Hello Sir, Is there a way to remove the two middle plastic cover without taking out the whole thing?
