I am just starting to get into this hobby for both enjoyment, and to maybe make some money on the side, i'm only 20 years old and i'm really enjoying your videos, thanks so much for taking the time to do them. they have been very helpful in understanding the whole process! thank you!
THANKS ... for such close up visuals of just how to tie theses springs !! You are very clear and thorough on instructions and demonstrations. Gives me great confidence in attempting my project !!
Thank you Joel: It is nice to see younger people getting into the craft, so many people today just want to start out making lots of money without putting in the long hours required to master a skill.
I have been trying to find information or guidance on coil spring placement... like how far apart? how far from the edge? should the springs be about an inch higher than the finished seat? can you use staples instead of tacks to secure the spring ties? also there is sometimes a cross support (wood piece) at the back and the front of the chair in all 4 corners (like in your video) to space out my springs evenly is it ok to put them slightly under this wood piece or will that cause problems or make noise? hope that makes sense
Two to three inches between springs should be good. an inch above the frame rail when tied is good. Yes you can use staples, but nails are better, If you choose staples use at least half inch ones. Most springs are hour glass shaped, installing them under the corner blocks could cause the top of the spring to rub on the block. Once you are finished with the springs sit on the chair to test the result. Make sure the spring twine is not stopping the springs, if it is you need taller springs. If the seating is to soft you need to add springs. I wouldn't worry if it feels to firm, your cushion will help there.
An average wing chair that does not require the level of restoration that the one in the video required takes between 12 and 15 hours. The one in the video was over 30 hours, its been about a year since it did this project and I don't remember the exact time, but between 30 and 40 hours. Of course times depend on the level of craftsmanship the upholster is willing, or able to apply to the project, the techniques used and the amount of work needed to bring each piece back into service.
Both spring systems will give good support and comfort. Coil springs are more labor intensive to install when using a hand tied install. Coil springs will out last zig zag springs. And I think coil springs offer a little more comfort.
Hello Moneka Ola Hurt: When I first put these videos up you tube only let me upload so much, so I did not record things that were repetitive. Just follow the same instructions for side to side as I showed for front to back, it's done the same way.
@@mjamsdenfurniture I have a dryer chair for doin hair and shampoo sets and you inspire me to want to recover it I think it’s from the 20’s may bee 30 and the seat has sprung springs and thank you for your valuable information I will so the springs the way you explained it I just need to research how to do the rest before I tear it apart and get overwhelmed!
@@monekaolahurt Sounds like an interesting project. You should be able to find most of what you need to know in my videos, but sometimes the best teacher is the chair itself. Take it apart and take detailed pictures and notes of each step, this will help you get it all back together.

Who is the best spring for the chair Zig Zag Springs or Spiral spring For comfortable chair ?

Thank you easy to put in

Cant get these on amazon. I could ship to you but I think it would be very expensive. Maybe you could get something from the UK.
