Title: "An Unforgettable Luncheon"
Description: "In this thrilling chapter of the critically acclaimed GAINAX series, the bashful principal, Seymour Skinner-kun, invites his High School crush, Superintendent Chalmers-senpai, over for a luncheon that neither of them will soon forget."
The fact that they added the typical “summer cicada” noise at the beginning cracks me up
Yeah I could tell instantly when I heard them
so loud in the evangelion dub.

You ever feel like your sense of humor is so niche, you can never explain it to a normal human?
but to the people who get it. I feel like I have an unspoken bond with them already.
Maybe BigEric420 will get you
Well it’s got half a million views so I wouldn’t say super niche
I absolutely feel like no one can ever get my humor.
I've had moments like that, yes.
Seymore walking into the river like that is so incredibly on-point for an anime opening. The climbing scene too
it's like jojo because they always have the same clothes in all the episodes
For the longest time I was like "Holy fucking shit, they voice acted this shit out in Japanese for a meme".
Then I realized it's just the official Japanese dub of the Simpsons since they exported it out to like every counter on Earth and a few on Mars.
A steamed ham on every counter, and every man a Shogun.
Thanks, I was wondering if that was the case.
The manga was better

Oh, man, I love how the translator note "dame = no" doesn't show up for nearly long enough for it to be properly read. :-D
I prefer when he puts "Ah, naruhodo" in the subs and the "Translators note: Naruhodo means I understand" when chalmer's clearly says "Ah, sou"
Ha! I didn't even catch that. :-D
Naruhodo means "I see"
The original (english) one says "I see" in that part

Take my like. Spend it wisely.
I was tricked into thinking he said that.
I love the Japanese insect noises in the background.
I wish cicadas were Japanese only insects so I wouldn't have that noise drilling into my ears in the summer
Cicadas are also heard throughout all Evangelion, since they live a perpetual Summer inside the series
GunNlazor ugly ass bugs NEVER shut up
I actually had to revoke my like because of that. I can't finish watching it. The frequency hurts my ears badly.
Why did i read you comment as "incest noises"
Ugh, I can't believe you went with the "Skinner" spelling when, in Matt Groening's original vision, he was clearly called "Sukinaa."
Yeah, but this official guidebook to the series says "THKINNER" plain as day, so that's the canon spelling.
Don't worry, I'll be releasing edited sub files for every episode of the show to fix this glaring mistake in the current fansub.
Wasnt it Skineru?😂

All jokes aside, the Japanese dub of the simpsons is pretty good
Ikr? Chalmer's voice actor nailed it.
So is the audio from the official japanese dub?
You can almost always count on that with Japanese voice acting, they have an extreme culture surrounding voice acting, seyiuus (japanese voice actors for gaming/anime etc) are treated exactly like celebrities are treated in the west, so it's a pretty prestigious, and arduous job, their work schedule is often a non-stop 7-day workweek where almost every hour of their working part of the day is filled with appointments.

I love that the editors note says that the joke is "ham rhymes with clam" instead of "hamaguri (japanese for clam) sounds like Hanbaga (japanese for hamburger)"
Do they actually use the words hamaguri and hanbaga in the dub? I don't hear them :-(
@@olli1886 "hamaguri" isn't actually a Japanese word and you can't hear them say it, but at 2:30 the editor's note claims that it is what Skinner says and that it means "clams".
They do say the word "hanbaga" at 2:49 , so in this alternative version of the japanese language where "hamaguri" means "clams" then the hamaguri-hanbaga pun would work.
Me and my sister were watching Hunter X Hunter and a guy said, "They call me 'boss,' " but the subs said, "They call me 'Oyabun' " "Translator note: 'Oyabun' means 'boss' "
But why not just translate it as "boss"?
Semi-amateur translator here: Sometimes, the subtlety of the word in one language would completely be lost in another. I don't know any japanese of course, but it may well be that the translator wanted to call attention to 'oyabun' as a particular kind of 'boss' for which there might not be a distinctive counterpart in English. Obviously, footnotes in books and articles are better places to do this in than in subtitles.
Because weeabos love this kind of shit

All according to Keikaku*.
*TN: Keikaku means plan.
Some people think that the subtlety of the original word is to important and therefore they put the original. Funny thing is, the subtlety is very unlikely to be worth actually learning the entire meaning of the word, let alone confusing everyone who doesn’t do that

@@Weightedneckhangenjoyer just like your uncle.
@@George_Bulkin I believe abaj comes from the kanji/Chinese letter 啊, which in some really bad translation such as the infamous DUWANG translation was left as is. 1:40 oh my god you even got that annoying ass cicada sound clip they in the beginning of the anime for no reason.

CaptainAlliance I thought it was interesting. Cicadas do live in Japan and these noises makes you feel like you're in the anime. You can't have a show that stays silent most of the time unless you make it interesting enough like how it was nailed in Samurai Jack.
You really need to know it's summer. It's very important. Let's spend 15 seconds with annoying insects, because it's incredibly important that the anime is happening in the summer. For panty shots.
Bloody Loon They used in wonderfully in Evangelion to convey that even the fucking bugs want to drown out Shinji's unending bitch-fest.
Years later, this is still sublime stuff. Absolutely bang on
Two things I love that never imagined to be together.
Thank you, RUclips Recommended.
Thank you translator for subtitling “dame” with a note that it means “no”. Keeping “dame” really helps the context, otherwise I would not have understood what he meant if he merely said “no”
Like the subtle humor of "ah, fuck no"
"My foot got stuck inside the window, i decided to do some ankle stretches while i wait for death."

The subtitles actually read "anal stretches" (which makes it even more hilarious IMHO).
So I finally broke down and watched a steamed hams video. Glad I chose a good one.
I mean, the introduction alone had me howling.
Wow, just wow. I had to rewatch the opening theme immediately so I could properly take it all in. This was delightfully devilish.
That is easily one of the best! Incredible job!
The only thing missing for a complete anime opening is a shot of the wind blowing through Skinner's hair as he is just standing there.
With the camera slowly spiraling away from him, coming to a stop on the sunset.
I thought that was reserved for the end credits.

You'd really have to be a child of the '90s to understand how accurate this is. Inserting swears to make the dialogue edgier, the random, pointless left-in Japanese language references, putting in honorifics for no reason, mistranslated gibberish... so very accurate.
This is one of the best Steamed Ham remixes I've seen. Well done!
