One of the most powerful songs I've ever heard. No one I know has even heard of this, but I grew up on 80's music and this one sticks in my head the most. Thank you Doug Cameron. Even if it changes just one person's view....thank you.
This song came out in the 80 's-my neice Kim loved ❤ this song. SHE saw the relevance of this as a little girl. SHE passed on a couple yrs ago-and I hope she is dancing in heaven too!!
#OurStoryIsOne...this campaign recognises that the femicide that happened 40 years ago is STILL going on today. Women are victims as much now as then of that regime, and others around the world that suppress women.
In 9 days, 40 years will have passed since this poignant night. Shout out to Nadia, Doug, Buffy, Dan, Payam & so many others I remember from those precious days of my youth. It is an incredible tribute for purity of motive and faith. #OurStoryIsOne
I met Doug Cameron. As a child. in the mid 1980's He lost his red beret. I asked, and that is what he told me. I doubt he remembers me. I was just a child then. My sister is named after Muna. Or "Mona". She is doing well. She's a doctor. A surgeon. Saving people's lives. This music video, a perfect rendition of the real history of the terror in Iran.
This was played many, many times during Bahai conferences around the world. (Phoenix Bahai Conference for me, I was only 12 when I first saw this. They played this video for many years after) and many ruhi classes as well. Many people today are still prosecuted in Iran for their beliefs! That's one of the many reason why the U.S went to war in the mid 00's which de-stabilized the middle east; Freedom of movement and thought.
Recent news is that the revolutionaries are now attempting to destroy the grave of Mona in an attempt to erase her memory. Don't they know she is all over the internet. Her memory will not easily be destroyed. the only effect the enemies of peace will have is to spread the memory of these heroes even further. Doug Cameron has done his part to keep us from forgetting.
You are right, it is all over the internet. I was shown this video to a response to a comment on Facebook, it's the first time I heard about "Mona". Now it is my turn to share this video and her story.
Bahai religion was made by British 100 years ago. Bahai religion is like a cult and the reason there is hatred towards them is that, their religion helped to overthrow Mohammad Mosaddegh and Amir Kabir (please research these facts). They use their graves to brainwash their new member. In Iran, there are other different religion minorities who’s religion is a false version of Islam or totally false religion but the reason that Bahai’s are banned and are investigated daily is because they work for the west they try to expand their religion and put British interest head of Iran. Recently from 2009-2013 they caused hyperinflation in Iran by spreading propaganda from BBC chaneel and told to people that there will be food shortage and every one should by massive amount of food and store it. In 2012 they told people that dollar will inflated and in a few days Iran currency will be 11 times weaker every dollar will be 10000 Toman (100 000 Rial). People rushed to streets to buy US dollar and many people lost their money. BBC Farsi staff are all Bahai’s . In Western governments allow Bahai run the anti-Iranian propaganda.
This song reminds me of my niece Kim who loved this song. It came out she was maybe 8yrs old she saw the relevance of this song even at such a young age. SHE passed away about 4yr ago-and I hope too that she is in heaven dancing.❤🎉RIP
I was 14 when this song came out and, to this day, I am awestruck by this young woman. The wife of a friend of mine was actually one of the children in this video. It's as relevant today as it was 40 years ago.
It certainly hits the emotions...especially considering the nostalgia factor. And absolutely as relevant, if not more so, today. God I miss the 80s...and I bet you do, too. :P
This video was played through many Ruhi classes and bahai conferences (Phoenix Bahai Conference for me as I was 12; 2011) many years ago. I didn't understand it until now. Many are still prosecuted to this day for their beliefs. Freedom and movement isn't allowed in Iran which is why our country (U.S) went to war with Iran in the mid 00's causing destabilization.
Our Story is One! We will not forget their lives. They are praised for their strength. The were so immersed in the fire of the love of God, that they withstood and never recanted their Faith. How powerful you must be! Spiritual Giants, nothing less.
So inspiring. Payam Akhavan was in this video and her story propelled him in his journey as a lawyer in to Human Rights and despots being held accountable in International World Courts
#OurStoryIsOne It's been years since I watched this video but over the years it's played in my mind...always remembered and still inspiring my social actions in community ❤
With tears in my eyes I bow to this special young woman, her strength and courage. Thank you for writing this song and spreading this powerful message using a language, that is universally understood… music.
Thanks for Posting this Doug, Can't believe that it was 1985 when I first played this on the Radio. This is the first time I have seen the Video. And so little the world seems to have changed.
I was 13 when this song came out, and it was definitely one of my favourites. It has such a powerful message...and I remember being moved by the video, even back then. Watching it now for the first time in nearly 40 years, it's even more moving and powerful. Cheers, Douglas...what an amazing song.
Commenting here to honor the memory and sacrifice of the ten Iranian Bahá’í women, including Mona, who were executed on June 18, 1983, in the city of Shiraz after refusing to recant their faith. #OurStoryIsOne
Always so touching and again and again I feel to moved by the story, the song and the video. Lets share it wherever wi have a chance and I would like to recommend it to everybody from the bottom of my heart! Thanks to all who have been involved in this production!
I saw painted on the floor, red footprints in the Emergency at the hospital. I was picking up someone who had an accident. I joked about maybe someone's feet were bleeding, that was why the red painted footprints. Then remembering what they did to Muna, and so many others. I took a bathroom break and cried.
This was always one of my favourite songs. This song and video have been in my head since I was 11 or 12. So Beautiful. I’d love to know more about the production of the music and video. Is that a drum machine or live drums? I see Buffy at the end, who else is there? You look super cool too. Like a young Billy Zane in a guardian angels uniform.
Hey Andrew. The recording was done in 1985 in Toronto. We did it in a big studio called Manta which no longer exists. The rhythm section was Kevan McKenzie on drums and David Piltch on bass. I played rhythm guitar. Michael Francis did electric guitar over dubs and Rob Yale did some Fairlight overdubs. Background vocals were sung by Jimmy Seals and Dash Crofts.
Christ Almighty! Can't we grow out of this foolishness? It's like most of we silly humans are caught in high school, except with guns and instruments of torture.
Hi Angela. They are making insults, saying phrases like “yeah brother, we will take care of all of them” “hurry up, we’ve got work to do” and “this is just the beginning.”
26/05/2023 - More than 30,000 Iranian people have been imprisoned and more than 750 people have been killed in the uprising that has been going on for more than a few months. Religious fascism has executed several protestors. The people of Iran expect the freedom-loving people of the world to stand by them so that they can overthrow the religious fascist government and achieve freedom and democracy.
I used to love this song. What a waste of a precious life. Not much has changed in Iran and attitudes towards women are just as crap as ever. Religion is completely pointless and the root of many of the world’s problems

Our second daughter is named "Mona" out of respect because of this music video.
I don’t understand why they don’t teach stuff like this in school. The song gives a powerful message. RIP Mona 🕊️

The story of Mona as told in this video continues to gather added relevance with every passing day.
Oh my god this made me cry never seen it before RIP

RIP Mona Mahmudnizhad (September 10, 1965 - June 18, 1983), forty years ago today.
This is a very special song to me. Was just a kid when I first heard it. Very good song.
This song is beautiful ❤ She was a strong woman, I wish more people knew her story. This song should have more recognition, it's a masterpiece

I heard it on radio here and there at the time, but had no idea of it's relevance on the global landscape.
The first time I saw this I was 11 years old back in 1985. It really spoke to me. Thank you for sharing this.

What has happened to the plan for a film?
I would like this on the radio where it wouldn't take a rare discovery for me to find it.

Ruhun şad olsun, Mona. Xatirəni əbədiləşdirmək üçün əlimdən gələni edəcəyəm.
I'd like to see a song-only version. Sure, the official video contributes context, but kind of ruins the song with the sound from the acted vignettes.
