    I’ve really enjoyed watching your SOTA videos, and just wanted to say thanks again for taking the time to continue posting them! I was there the weekend before last, hoping to actually hit both SOTA locations by eMTB but the “light rain, ending by noon” just wouldn’t let up and I was getting soaked so I called it a day. It was still fun to get out and scout the area for a later attempt. I’m planning on seeking out some mountain bike-able SOTA activations this summer. 73, K7LFO, Jesse

      Sorry for delayed response, and thank you for nice comments! Fun to hear you were able to get out to Mt Electric and also that you are looking for mountain bike-able SOTA activations this summer. There are quite a few summits with "road hikes" that would be good, and know a few activators have used bikes for certain summits. Hope to catch you on the air this summer! 73, James WA7JNJ

      @@wa7jnjradio Hi James. I went back yesterday and successfully activated Mt Electric. The HF bands have been pretty dead the last few days, so it was a bit of a slog to get contacts on 20M, but the weather was nice, so all in all, a good day. From where I was set up I got a strong contact with KB7RYY in Bellevue on 2M, so I know I was getting out on VHF, but I think everyone was manning the BBQ grill that day ;-). I was watching another of your videos recently and spotted another good bike-able SOTA spot. Two weekends ago I missed a SOTA opportunity on Thunder Knob (Diablo Lake). My wife said "let's do a little hike on our way to Mazama", and I didn't realize it was up to a SOTA peak. Oh well, I'll just have to go back! BTW, I'm not sure if you're familiar with the SOTAMat app, but it's pretty handy for self-spotting when there's no cell service. 73, Jesse K7LFO

      @@TheGhostfaceKLR Thanks so much for sharing follow-up about Mt Electric and fun to hear you activated! ...and very fun to hear you were headed to Mazama! I've been going there since I was born to camp with the family, and only recently finally stopped to hike Thunder Knob. It's a very popular but very cool summit! Due to being surrounds by much higher mountains and no cell signal, I was nervous about not being able to make enough contacts...but just got enough that night to activate! Not sure I know about the SOTAMat app, and will have to check out! I know some will use garmin satellite devices to send text for spotting, and some time in the future I should get more for safety hiking. Thanks again for sharing and sounds like you had a good weekend! 73, James WA7JNJ

    I wish you had came back to HF and had one of the guys spotted you, but still a great video.

      Thank you for watching and comment, and I agree with you that I should have tried HF again... especially after being able to spot. Have a great day!

    Nice video! sometimes it can be difficult to get four contacts without a spot. The excitement when you finally heard WW7D was great.

      So true! After wandering around for a bit, and not getting any contacts at the earlier location...I was definitely excited to hear Darryl, and then 3 more contacts so quickly! (-: Thanks for comment! 73

    I always enjoy your videos and from the looks of it I need to go back and watch 3-4 of them! I also always try and comment on good videos as I know I appreciate it when subscribe comment on my videos. The scenery was great and your camera caught it all. I really like the one upward shot into the trees when you were doing your 2nd or 3rd contact. Do you video log... IE... go back and watch the video to log your contacts with the time? Also how did you spot yourself; were you able to hit a repeater? I live in F currently and mainly do POTA but plan to do my first SOTA on a few peaks out in WY when I visit there in June. I look forward to the different challenge. I hope the SOTA spot works as well as a POTA spot on HF! gotta go watch a few of your videos I missed. I will hit the notification bell ! Bob KU3C PS: I live din Puyallup for two years in the 80's and my daughter lived in Seattle for 10 after college...familiar wit the area!

      Thank you for the comments, and fun to hear feedback regarding scenery and upward tree shot. I need to keep learning about video angles, shots, etc. For logging, I usually do paper logging...and it was a bit unique for this summit. I did go back to watch the video for logging, and also had a another audio track going. I was finally able to spot at the SOTA spots website (or might have been sotl.as?). In hindsight, I also had the Yaesu FT3D, and could have done a spot via aprs (a bit more unique). Good question about repeater, and I didn't try this time... I have called to a repeater in the past looking for anyone to make a simplex contact with. You'll usually do well with SOTA spots, but on SSB I sometime have less than POTA. If you are on a summit in a POTA park, you can always spot on both. Very cool about you being familiar with the Puget Sound area, and thank you for comments & questions! 73

      I do need to cover a bit more, and thanks for feedback. Quick fyi that for VHF / UHF antenna setups, I cover my primary setups in this video about activating SOTA on VHF / UHF ruclips.net/video/6SxNHChLX-I/видео.html

      If I am not mistaken, this summit is in the Marckworth State Forest which is a POTA entity (US-10711)

    • @wa7jnjradio
      @wa7jnjradio  5 месяцев назад

      You are correct! (-: It is within POTA US-10711 Marckworth State Forest.... There's a few comments in the video description, along with a link to the park info. I'm catching up on a few older videos, and activated this in May 2022...at the time, I remember looking to see if Markworth was a POTA... and don't believe it was at the time? It looks like this park was activated quite a few times starting a few months ago... and I wondered if it was recently added? Next time I will definitely activate as a POTA, and thanks again for comment... and good to make sure others are aware of the POTA info! 73
