My first MPC was the 2000XL in 2000 when I was stationed in South Korea. Over the years I bought maybe 12 of them cheap from eBay to mod by adding SCSI card readers, blue LCD screens, solder new LEDs, solder new tact switches and adding internal SCSI hard drives to store programs/samples/files to a 2.5” laptop hard drive. Made good money off of it and I had fun doing it. Cheers from the UK! 🇺🇸🇬🇧
That’s passion, I’m getting more into modding myself. Something magic about these machines. Whether it’s nostalgic or not they seem to breed creativity in multiple ways. Peace from the US bro
I actually traded an mpc 5000 for the current 2000 xl i have now. I love the machine so much I couldnt imagine selling it. Hey I've always wondered. Are the speakers on the live 2 good sounding?
I love the Mpc 2000xl. The midi sequencer is great and I love how it sounds for the drums but a little too dirty for melodic sounds. It just need a little tlc and max it out with the 8 outputs and the effect broad.
@@re-sampledno problem. I appreciate anyone who takes their time to give helpful feedback on topics that people might have a question about it like the Mpc 2000xl.
@@re-sampled I also agree too. I don't have the FX board on mine because I can use my own effects on the stems once I'm at mixing stage. The FX board is good if you don't have the eight outs and you export from the stereo outs.
Yo thank you, i recently went through some old Halloweens sound fx records and found a few interesting things to sample. How are you liking the mpc one + so far?
It’s not man I just call myself a collector to get around it! If you’re handy with a soldering iron grab a project machine and build it up. Makes it even more worth it.
thanks for the dope vid! I've been using the mpc 2000xl for about 6-7 years (first sampler I got). I own 2 and thought of selling the second one but I'm keeping it for spare parts if stuff starts to break. I also got the MPC Live 2 recently and I'm learning to use it. With the 2000XL, I hate exporting my beats track by track and having to line them up in my DAW afterwards (even with the Marco Polo PMPTE method). I also like being able mix my beat with my computer plugins as I make the beat (in controller mode) with MPC Live 2. I'm just really used to using the 2000XL and can do what I want with my eyes closed by now haha (which is far from the case with the MPC Live 2).
I learned on the 2000XL so it'll always have a special place in my heart BUT I ended up buyiung the MPC 1000 and that little guy is a beast. you can add a hard drive inside it, hook it up to the computer. Has less outputs though. So there's pro's and con's to both.
All good points. Ithink you learn how to work around limitations like most things in life. Todays modern music tech has spoiled alot of people but for me I own both the 2KXL and the 4K and never really saw sample time as a limittion but more of how to get creative with whats available to me.
I appreciate you watching! I agree limits do force more creativity. Sampling off vinyl at high speed and pitching down is always a valid way to add more texture.
@@ttttiiimmy10bit this is a tough question. I like the 2kxl a lot. Im gonna have to go with the 4k though especially if your trying to do a whole production on one machine only.
Will the 2000xl play mpc 60/3000 files and projects? I have a ton of old disks for the mpc60 with the 3000 upgrade. I am looking for a newer mpc that will play the old disks
Good question! as far as I know both series use completely different file structures. I dont think they are compatible. I wonder if there is converter software out there? There used to be an app called vmpc or something like that I wonder if you could load the files into there and then resample them in the 3000.
@re-sampled I will look into that. There is also a program named mpcdisk that seems to work but the program is old and you need an old computer with a floppy drive to use it. Lucky I have a few old laptops lying around. Thanks for the info....
I felt like a fish out of water when I sold mine and I went back and got another one 5 months later 😅😅, love the MPC 2000xl, you'll get homesick the first week without it 😂
I have a mpc5000, its the ony one ive ever used. To me, the workflow is what its all about. I cannot do DAWS beyond simple track recording, so having the hardware there is key for me. I really want a second MPC to keep at my girfriends place so that i always have an mpc to jam on
You guys should make a video on the difference between remixing and sampling. Is there a difference now? How does AI play into it. I got questions and you guys sounds like experts.

Only pros, even the cons are pros as restrictions lead to creativity, best beat making machine ever.

My favorite machine , I cried when I sold it , but when I got the live 2 my beat making stepped up to new levels , but the 2000XL is a legend

@@re-sampled it sounds clear but they don’t bump really , I use my headphones and the monitors for the most part .
How’s the timing on the live ii?
Also, any glitches? I see they’ve updated and some ppl have bugs
My live broke in 18months, my 2000XL is still tickin' 20 years later.
The 2000XL is a work horse for life, the live is built to break and soul-less.
I really appreciate you doing these rundowns, thank you.
