"As long as you're paying your taxes and being a moderately responsible citizen, there's really no reason to be an adult." I need to frame that quote and hang it on my wall.
My mantra has always been, for decades: "One must mature but should never grow up."
So true. Adults are constantly under pressure to be an “adult”.
Be serious, purposeful, disciplined, take on as much responsibility as one can, etc.
We feel shame if we need a breather, want time off, want to play. Yes play! We all need to play far more often than we probably do.
I'm a teacher and I tell something like this to my students every year. "Never grow up, grow up just enough to be able to pay your bills and hold down a job. Otherwise, act silly, be curious, I'm a man in my 40's and I have no problem doing this." I'll then put my pinkies in my mouth, pull my mouth open, stick out my tongue and go "Bleeehh!" It always gets a laugh. Then again, teaching sort of keeps you young.

Camacho may have been over the top but he DID want to solve problems and make life better for everyone. He was smart enough to listen to someone smarter than him and make decisions. Problems did get solved and life got better so it's hard to say he was a bad president.
Not only that, but he held the person responsible for solving the problems accountable for deliverables. That’s actual leadership.
And he listened to people smarter than him. Literally the 3 things needed to be in charge of anything.

Idiocrasy went from one of the best comedies to one of the best documentaries.

it wasn't even that good a comedy. The second half wasn't very good.
Camacho was a great president in the movie. He recognized things needed to change and made it happen. He empowered the right people to be leaders.

I just watched this movie last night and it made me sick. Our society is really doomed.
Teachers and parents told me basicly the same thing and it killed a perfect career for me. I always goofed around outside of school, and some inside school, but never realized it was a career. No teacher ever said, You should try acting or comedy. I just got punished for being myself. I tried regular jobs for 40 years and they ALL SUCKED! Then I was in an independent movie. I had a small part, but it was so fun and I realized THIS is what I want to do!!! So now I'm in my low 60s starting my new career as a professional goof in comedy entertainment.
Let us be the judge of that. What movie? Where’s the clips?
@@kieransoregaard-utt8 The movie is called "The Last Fireplace", written and directed by Shaun Doyle. It hasn't been released yet. It takes place roughly 100 years in the future after the apocalypse. There was a king who ruled northeast Ohio and his queen wanted a child, which they couldn't have. So the king sent a bounty hunter out to find a child for her. There were a couple sub plots. I played the jester for the king. The cast liked my performance, but I think I could have done better. I liked the movie. Not bad for a first try.

1:42 Someone on social media pointed it out, I can't remember who (heck, maybe it was Luke) that Camacho had a key ingredient to being a good President that others lacked where he *knew he didn't know things*. He seeks out Bauers' help because he doesn't know if he's an expert but he knows that Bauers at least knows better than anyone else around. Such a simple quality and I guess part of the joke is that we could devolve to a time where that taken-for-granted quality becomes extraordinary.
Only with "guidance" we devolve.
In that very picture there is my favourite element too: there is a car which drives down from the broken highway into a heap of cars. They were just drivin’ around you know...

As a generally pretty funny kid in middle school, and then into high school - I definitely resonate with the "stop doing that, you're crazy" regarding being funny. So much so that I was placed in classes called "behavioral disorder" classes; I wasn't violent, or anything of the sort - I was just funny in class. Isn't the public school system great in the US? Label a kid as having a behavioral disorder instead of "oh, this kids funny, maybe have some creative outlet for him".
Anyway. I'm in IT now. Still funny. No I won't fix your computer.

This was one of my middle school movies that was always on during sleepovers. Same with “without a paddle”, and “the pick of destiny”. Some of my favorite feel good movies.

Knowing that the people who worked on the movie felt such a personal connection to it just makes me love that movie even more. Props to Mike for literally living in the future while everyone else is stuck in the present.

I've been litteraly saying for the last ten years is that the movie is slowly becoming less of a comedy and more of a prophecy. It has electrolytes!

My favorite background thing was the clocks. They were always flashing 12:00 because no one knew how to change the time on them. That was every VCR in America during the entirety of the 90’s.

Camacho cared about the people he represented, understood there were big problems, and was willing to let those smarter then him suggest solutions, then implement them. i'd be pretty happy with him as president. plus he would be intimidating af to other leaders

I'm increasingly convinced that Idiocracy is simply a documentary from the future sent back in time and recut to be a movie.

lol yes I finally realized like, maybe in my twenties or something, that literally every human being that has ever lived or ever will live talks to their self all day every day. It is usually referred to as (wait for it!😅)- thinking! Haha when I finally had that realization, I realized that I was not necessarily crazy like many friends and acquaintances had said. I just think out loud. A lot. Haha so it’s a balance, in life, of thinking out loud or thinking thoughts inside my own mind, and I try to balance it and, or, control it for various social situations because, unfortunately, there are still those people that still exist in the world that will automatically say you are crazy if you talk to yourself out loud or think to yourself out loud for whatever reason.
For me, in most cases I'm not thinking out loud. I'm just talking to myself about things I find interesting since no one else will listen. I wouldn't call what I do thinking, that's for sure. And I am most likely insane.
Crispy sweet potato fries are hard to come by.

Hey! I'm one of those kids! Undiagnosed/untreated anxiety and depression didn't help (what up Gen-X!) but I learned it was a lot safer to just shut up than be told it over an over and over. Now the stuff I thought was funny basically became funny and I had 0 part in any of it. Ifs and buts...
To be fair, I was diagnosed and treated and that didn't help me either

President Camacho is a good president given the circumstance. At least he actually listens to the people and he listens to "Not Sure" who may not be an expert, but is most likely the most qualified person for the job.

Camacho hired the smartest man alive in 2505. At this point, before it gets beyond this point, and giving the circumstances that's a plus.
In my mom's side of the family, humor is ripe and sarcasm is breakfast. My dad's though is like Conan's teacher. Happy to have kept myself from being too adult.
