I would also consider cycling (i.e., just meaning to not necessarily incorporate all of these simultaneously every single day, per se) maca green tea, curcumin (with a dab of healthy fatty acids and some black pepper/piperine for better bioavailability, broccoli (sprouted best) or something else for sulphorophane, NAC, colostrum/lactoferrin, quercetin, periodic transient cold (earlier in day) and more so, heat shock (mid-to-later), Dr. Perry Nickleston's lymph flow routine, walking because calves are basically the peripheral 2nd heart, and if you can, ensuring your psycho-physiology is in a predominantly parasympathetic state for the majority of each day (if possible, sympathetic peak earlier in day soon after waking, preferably self-induced via a minimum-effective-dose hormetic exercise bout most days, and always daily, frequent light therapeutic movement throughout the day every hour or so ideally). There are some other critical elements of course such as optimizing qualitative (content, variety, integrity, etc.) and quantitative (amount, frequency, timing, etc.) aspects of breathing/oxygenation quality, hydration, essential and supportive nutrition (EAAs, EFAs, non-rancid Omega 3s, beneficial biotics, essential vits, minerals, trace minerals, cofactors, targeted nutraceuticals...preferably from whole-food matrices), daily circadian control of light exposure, 'less screen 📱 time, more green 🌳 time' outdoors (also see related: grounding, forrest bathing, etc.), and biome-savvy (e.g., for oral and skin factors) essential hygiene. Periodic prolonged (2-4 day or so, depending on your bodymass, efficacy of the intervention, medical monitoring or risk controllability, etc.) therapeutic water fasting (with essential electrolytes) might also be worth researching into. Also, even if you slightly break it during the fast, you'll re-enter autophagy shortly after that anyway. I.e., little bits of blueberry or something (for example) 1 or 2 times to sustain you through (e.g., if you sense a sudden hyper low blood pressure or glucose dip) can in some cases do more good than not and still allow you to complete the fasting period. But always play it better safe than sorry of course. Check into low and no-cost ways to support endogenous antioxidant levels (includes melatonin - a mitochondrial antioxidant - organic tart cherry juice is among the exogeneous nutritive supporters, as well as glutathione, SOD/superoxide dismutase, nitric oxide, and others), and NK cell levels and activity. The stress regulation/resistance management aspect is broad and so critical, simple yet "easier said than done". Routinely alloted time for play, rest, relaxation, and stillness, along with movement, and more purposeful activities, work, and so on - is key. Stress is needed. Net helpful (hormetic) stress is good. Net harmful (toxic) stress is hurtful. Nobody can avoid the latter but this understanding can help guide us to monitor and regulate accordingly, with patience and grace for ourselves through the process and flow of our experienced lives. Anyway, the stress-immune interface is inextricably linked so I just meant to emphasize it. Distress - minimize, eustress - maximize (to an extent...again, high autonomic arousal all the time is not natural and not good). Art, social connection, creation, play, etc. - all good to allot for in your routine doings because they can all modulate stress system in a constructive way. But always consider yourself as the SME (subject matter expert) of your own body, bio-individuality is indeed something to consider, and journaling, mindful awareness of self-talk and internal visualizations (we all do it, just not always consciously noticing it and/or its patterns) can also help in this area. Lastly, consider the central role the hypothalamus plays in our human biosystem and gradually learn how to support it. I am a gourmet mushroom farmer, and obviously enjoy daily. Thank you for spreading the good word. Lion's Mane, Blue Oyster, Shiitake, and others for the win🙏💜🌞
I steam 3 large brown button mushrooms every day. Dr. Greger has provided evidence that larger mushrooms are richer in nutrients. Sometimes I swap out the large browns for other fresh mushrooms: oysters are meaty, dried shiitakes just require 12 hours soaking and then they can be cut up and added to miso soup with wakame or nori seaweed. Black fungus and snow fungus are tasteless and can be added to that miso soup in heroic amounts. Shimejis can soak up a marinade.
So great to get this information out there. I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease 18 months ago at the age of 67. I am now eating mushrooms almost every day and take a quality lion’s mane supplement. I wish I had started eating them at a young age. Mushrooms should be in its own separate category in the daily dozen, as well as fermented foods!
I eat many things raw but my experience is that unless well cooked they give me gas. The other way I have medicinal mushrooms on a daily basis is powdered. Every morning I make flax balls...I grind up flaxseed, mushroom powder, cinnamon and cloves, add a few dates and fresh thumb of ginger, blend again, then add a banana coin or a few blueberries for enough moisture to form balls. Lol, it's like cookie dough for breakfast. I arrange the balls and remaining banana on my plate to make a smiley face bc why not :D I get the powdered shrooms online... it's a 7 shroom blend and packages lions mane as well. It's organic. I've ordered from znaturals for years, quick ship. I also have their 7 shroom blend coffee and only use a fraction of the recommend per cup.
Oh and to add... since you have such a wonderful handle about always learning ... znaturals also has wonderful nutritional descriptions of their items. I've just been a customer for about a decade....
There's fairly high levels of agaritine in the wild precursors of Agaricus bisporus, the cultivated white button/chanterelle/brown mushroom/cremini/portabello mushroom. Cultivated varieties have little, and cooking reduces it further. Cook mushrooms because they're much tastier, but a few raw white buttons on a salad won't pose a health risk.
I started eating mushrooms every day a few months ago because my immune system system was doing badly. My IgA went from O mol/l to .65(the middle of normal range and I haven’t seen that in 30 years!) My IgM went from barely, barely normal to right in the middle of the normal range and IgG increased too! I just put them in everything I cook. I happen to love mushrooms so it works well for me.
No-till agriculture has been used on more than half of all crops grown in the USA and most of the world for at least the last 30 years. Saves fuel cost, reduces erosion, cuts water loss and helps reduce weed competition.
Dr. Greger. I just heard a podcast with Paul Stamets who indicated something dire about portobella mushrooms, but he wouldn't divulge exactly. I have been joyfully adding portos into my lentil veggie soup which is a mainstay for me and now I have concerns. Would you be so kind to look into this for your community. Thank you.
Dont forget to cook your mushrooms also per Dr Greger! :) I love mushrooms and want to expand to other kinds and i think its a great idea to grow them!! :)
FYI: if you never eaten a particular mushroom specie before, especially raw, TEST a small portion. i found that i am allergic to raw shiitake mushrooms, causing aggravating itchy welts on the scalp and torso that lasted over a week.
@@CRM-114 i m calling for objectivity here nutrition wise ( Greger speaks about health, not morals ). Italians may have higher ergotheonine because of parmesan, not porcini.
not exactly. The ones you eat from the grocery store, yes they are definitely powerful, the others not so much, unless you take them along with getting chemo. In that case they help.
I have Stage 4 cancer and eat mushrooms daily, among other things and have survived more than 5 years.

You're living my dream! I hope some day i'll be able to live from selling mushrooms! At the moment i'm only growing for myself.
What a wonderful enterprise - I wish you every success!!!
I would love to know how one becomes a gourmet mushroom farmer!
The question is how to grow mushrooms without producing tons of plastic (bag) waste.
You can use glass bottles, a lot of companies do that to cut down on costs & eliminates plastic bags.@@Yoggoth

Mushrooms have become my favorite *vegan meats* overtaking the still-much loved tofu. 😊
God bless you , thanks for all you do.

Thank you so much Dr Gregor. I needed that information, I had forgotten about mushrooms. Much appreciated ❤
Not surprising that you forgot given how important mushrooms (particularly lion's mane) are important to memory ;-)
Love this, love mushrooms ❤ thank you for this information
I'll have some ergothioneine please!
I wonder if it's in shilajit.
Glad I eat mushrooms, incuding Lion's Mane, daily! 🍄 💪
Must mushrooms be cooked to be safe and beneficial? I heard that raw mushroom intake might not be good but cannot remember why.
Because of fungus on them, have to be consumed cooked
Better question is, why would you want to? :p Consuming them raw will give you basically no nutrition cause of their cell walls are tough.
I eat many things raw but my experience is that unless well cooked they give me gas.

I don’t know how to comment but would like to know if we have to boil them before cooking them in the pan?

Thanks a lot. I love mushrooms, and love to learn a lot about them. Mushrooms are so fascinating. God bless!
Yeah mushrooms are blessings from God
do you have information on the long term effects of psychedelic mushrooms? in lower dosages specifically, like 1 gram~
I harvest wild and have grown my own. Oysters are rampant in this area.
I love these podcasts.
I have to give a shout out to the chaga mushroom!
Thank you so much!
Wow , this was fascinating knowledge enjoyed every minute ❤❤❤

Is it possible/safe to eat a diet to gain 30lbs of muscle in 8 months
Consuming that much protein like the Actor Alan Richardson did?!
Mushrooms 🍄 ... Yum 👍🏻 😋
Roly poly fish heads

Dr. Greger actually mentioned this in a video I watched recently!
Okay so on PlantChomperz (on youtube), they posted a video interview with Dr. Greger and at the 1:16:47 mark!
DONT eat them raw. I know they taste good that way but it’s dangerous
Time stamps please.
No Lion's mane in my country😢
If you don't mind online shopping, you're sure to find lion's mane as a dried powder.

It'sa me, Michael! 🍄
Why do some button mushroom seed mycelium grow slowly?
I slice and lay them out in the sun 20 minutes on each side be4 cooking. To get Vit. D.
You forgot about Turkey Tail.
Ergotheonine is also produced by lactobacillus reuteri in the gut. A good excuse to allow for a bit of parmesan once in a while
