Spin and dig to get to the pit, and alot of times pushed out....
Good fuel mileage ain't because of cheap plastic trucks that are supposedly "more arrow dynamically built" ( arrow dynamics for results that are noticeable and worth acknowledging take place at certain speeds. ) This is why I'm so thankful to have my ridding lawnmower and farm tractor with the streamline bodies ! Man I get way better fuel mileage cutting my lawn now!) One gets great fuel mileage on flat land with little wind and hauling light loads ! End of discussion!;
nice video justin , good job 👍 i think you did a very good job @ explaining it all , i understand 💯% . some of us guys these older classic trucks is all we've ever been around & we dont think twice about it , its just the way we do trucking 😊
I agree with your points, only one I'm not sure on is the auto transmissions, I've driven auto's in off road applications and on steep hills at 110,000lbs and they're fine, I'd even say they go up hills easier than manuals. This is in Euro trucks though; I don't know how the US stuff copes. Really love your fleet.👍
The company i work for has emissions trucks with ant eater style hoods and i get better fuel milage with my 1999 379 pete and we pull triaxle flat beds step decks and detach double drops!
K when I start. 30 years wrenching. Most of it at the dealership and 4 years in the fleet. Man I miss doing gliders frame stretchs ect.. Beautiful fleet 🇨🇦
@@flintcreektransport I'm not kidding I went from the nice new "pretty trucks" to cement mixers and it's been a total different way of work. I've been told over the years that I have to much pride. I don't care if it's a new truck or a 30 year old truck I give it the same attention. I used to do alot of the motor home "coach" work and especially the pushers where you pull off the cylinder head in buddies bedroom. Took longer to prepare then anything. Anyway I won't take any more of your time and I just want to say that you have a fleet to be proud of and I would say that the staff is the same. Not just the driver's 🔧. Seems to me that you know your business. The fact that you are making this video is a great example of the lack of basic knowledge of what trucks do. Great job. Keep truckin brother
Idk, I’ve got a 94 379 flat top 3:55 rears lo pro 24.5 rubber 18 speed Detroit series 60 with 90,000 on a virgin engine. I pull a 53’ dry van on the same basic route every week. My outbound weight is between 55,000 to 70,000 total gross. My back haul weight is always 70-80’000. My mileage average is 5.3 mpg. Don’t care I’d I drive it 60 or 80 mph it’s pretty much the same. Also I don’t idle the truck. I stay at a holiday inn express at night. Had it re tuned a few times but it’s always the same. I give up. Just pay the fuel.
Been spot watching your videos as time permits. First class presentation and deliver! Love the content and the drama level is right where it should be (0%!). Listened to your reference to the Electric truck, was curious if you have or are planning an entire episode on that subject. I see where some instances could utilize the electric vehicle, not heavy trucks. Again, enjoy your videos and thank you for sharing.
We done heavy haul end dump hauling coal we pulled 145000 an 4 mpg was fuel sipping ..these 218 ratio trucks fall flat on ther face if the see a hill..
Too low (numerically) gear wise sucks big time. I used to drive a dump truck that would get stuck in the grass if loaded because gear set was setup for the highway and it was a complete dog to get going. If that same truck had lower gears (higher numerically) it could have been really good.
We run in the Dakotas, we can gross 105500 (and heavier with permit) in ND , in SD, MT WY up to 160,000 with pup trailers Then ad the fact on 2 lane roads more stop signs, small towns to slow down, ect ect, whole different world than the governed super slab 40 50 k gross dry goods light wt bulk van loads the fleets haul. 4 - 5 is normal for working trucks with pto ect,
Trucks that are getting that kind of fuel mileage aren't pulling any weight generally and are on flat grounds and anybody saying they're getting that kind of pulling weight arent going west going through the hills . People saying they get that kind of mileage have no understanding due to not have been around that much. Probably just got their CDL and the first job is driving a straight truck hauling birthday balloons and need to tell the world what they think.
I am sure your seasonsed operators know how to compensate for bad weather & headwinds something that those steering wheel holders don’t know about. I am sure when deadheading your guys know how to skip gears if your empty you only need to move the stick twice on the low side and shift 3 gears on the high side and your guys know how to take advantage of tail winds the reason they run auto is for the mountains they just have too many inapt drivers and those autos are heavy units they are not reliable autos are just for city food &. Beverage routes
Justin. You need to get together with Eaton axle and transmission in Michigan. Go to the test track and drive those new automatics. Watched 2 videos of RUclips people driving new KWs and Petes. Some were grossing almost 200thousand pounds. You really need to get out there and drive those trucks. I think you would probably never drive a manual again. They are unbelievable. Just Saying. Stay Safe out There. 🇺🇸😊
I thought the motor on a Lonestar with 458 to 852,008 gross out typically at 1:40 with extra dark yet so I hear ya in the truck only had 250,000 I’ll order to get rebuilt
I average about 4.5 with an 18 western star 4900ex 550 acert 18 speed 3.91 rears hauling milk grossing 100k-114k. I do a lot of idling and it's all local. The farthest I drive is 3 hours one way. No way anybody will get 7+ mpg doing that. Plus most of these guys claiming they get 10 mpg are looking at what the truck says, not doing the actual math. That number will change drastically.
Im getting 7 if im lucky here in the uk i drive a daf xf 460 2014 with ad blue im running fully weighted all the time but we got 2 v8s scanias and there getting better milage and there older
Automatic are great at getting good fuel economy from bad drivers. Good drivers can beat automatic transmission on fuel economy. I see old school drivers that leave leave it in manual mode and shift the transmission and have the best economy in the fleet. Technology is not always the answer.
8 to 9 mpg, what the hell are they doing, running 55 mph empty everywhere? I dont even run heavy and the best i get is 7. 7.5 if im rolling downhill with a tailwind. I mean we're all driving boxes dragging boxes around unless flatbed like me, but dam. We run all 45 ft wagons, thats how we get around the no trailers 48 ft or over and no 102s. Ours are all 45 x 96. We fit dam near anywhere. Our fuel mileage also sucks because we spend hours off road idling around unloading buildings.
Man that's a great example of what I have been trying to say all trucking is different from the other haul ever haul is really difficult to try to expect but none of us is that good yet lol i wish we could have it figured out by now but we don't lol😅
Justin some guys just like to criticize their not doing what ur guys like u said tk has to run to unload. Same with dump raising body more fuel keep up good job. God bless
Some British operators are running volvo and scania with more than 700 bhp ..and thats with 6×2 configuration doing various types of work...still returning 8 to 10 mpg ...and there fitted with automatic gearboxes..we run 500 bhp 6×2 volvos with automatic gearboxes...never had any issues with tight turns or tight entrances in farms . Building sites etc ...and we run flat bed trailers as well ...
Well 1 reason for the low m.p.g. is all of the trucks are classic styled(big long tall hood)...it's like driving a brick into the wind..no aerodynamics
Nice Looking Rig ( The Blue One ) I’m really liking the content… Justin, On the other vid when you purchased the truck in Illinois, My Question is? Do you ever get a Truck Dyno? I just purchased my 1st Rig and I passed on a 2011 KW T800, It had two oil leaks and it was Derating. ( It made Peak HP but when it got warm, the HP Number Dropped ) So, learn doing a pre-inspection at the motor Manufacturer is a good system, I was wondering do you do the same? Or because you have a shop, you can afford a hiccup or two?

This is off topic, but I’d love to hear your opinion on the newly revealed 2024 Peterbilt 589 (suppose to be replacing the 389). To me It’s like a 389 but with a 579 interior and has the newer dashboard and one full windshield rather having the split in the middle. I’m also sure it’s an emissions truck so there’s that. Either way I’d love to hear your opinion. Big fan of your channel too by the way.
These new trucks I wouldn't trust to drive them the newer Freightliner Cascadia sore nothing but a pile of junk when you're into farming and Agriculture and off-road Trucking you need an old-school truck a heavy special truck these big Mega carriers they don't care they buy these old Cascadia Cascadia semis or throw away trucks I want something I can put on the road and it's reliable and old-school Kenworth for an old-school Peterbilt I want something you can put a board on a flatbed trailer and drive it down the road and the engine don't quit on you before you get out of the driveway I wouldn't trust driving it Freightliner Cascadia semi to church on Sundays cuz the thing might break down you need old school Trucking when you're in avocado tree in farming and God bless you and thank you😊
Guys pulling dry boxes with ugly aerodynamic trucks, with Amazon good’s in the box telling everyone they should get amazing mileage. Hauling bulk commodities is different. A motor is going to burn more fuel pulling 80-105k pounds vs 55k pounds.
I really enjoy your videos to start off, but I feel that you are misinformed on some of your points. It all comes down to specs. These newer trucks can be just as powerful as the older ones. The wheel base, engine, rears, etc can be just the same as anything else. As far as APU’s, they weigh on average around 400 pounds which they will come with for lack of better words, permit that will have the exact weight of the unit. A DOT officer “should” give you that weight exemption depending what state you are in. There is no doubt that you will save money and wear n tear on your engine with an APU. You hit the nail on the head that you pulling so heavy is going to cost you fuel as well as using the PTO. As far as not being able to use an automated transmission for your weight, do yourself a favor and test drive the DT 12 from freightliner or the paccar automated transmission. I think that you will be surprised. Enough of my rambling. Thanks for the content.
There will prolly be a day when I get a automatic truck. I think they have improved them a lot ….. but pulling through a “moist” 😜field with 100k it’s gonna struggle ……. Or inching 100k into a tight spot
@@flintcreektransport now the early Eaton Autos were an absolute nightmare! You were either not moving or going a buck 20!! There is no in between. After dealing with that I was extremely hesitant trying out the DT12 or Volvo Ishift. I gotta say that I was impressed by both. I’m old school like you tho. There is nothing like being able to split that half gear on a 13 or 18 speed. If I were in your position owning a fleet I’d definitely go with automated because I new driver 9 times out of 10 isn’t going to respect your equipment/investment. It’s hard to find seasoned drivers anymore. Anyway, I enjoyed this conversation. Wish you nothing but the best!! Oh n btw, you are a smart man buying these gliders up! Is it just me or does this dude remind anyone else of a younger former president Obama ?? Fuel mileage depends on the application .......short haul or long haul , on or off road ,van or tanker , belt trailer or hopper bottom etc. Also if you run trailers that require p.t.o. operation , it'll drag down fuel mileage. Anytime you do off road work , fuel mileage suffers...... That's the bottom line. good job on your videos

Some of these surface jobs the roads are like literally driving up a creek bed. Ive dragged fuel tanks off busted 1 front rearend housing a few years ago...when it rains its unreal. Spin and dig to get to the pit, and alot of times pushed out....
Good fuel mileage ain't because of cheap plastic trucks that are supposedly "more arrow dynamically built" ( arrow dynamics for results that are noticeable and worth acknowledging take place at certain speeds. ) This is why I'm so thankful to have my ridding lawnmower and farm tractor with the streamline bodies ! Man I get way better fuel mileage cutting my lawn now!) One gets great fuel mileage on flat land with little wind and hauling light loads ! End of discussion!;
I think your Green W900L is your favorite Justin. It is a Beautiful truck and turned out Great... 👍👍👍
Basically it’s just vocational work vs over the road, very simple to understand
nice video justin , good job 👍 i think you did a very good job @ explaining it all , i understand 💯% . some of us guys these older classic trucks is all we've ever been around & we dont think twice about it , its just the way we do trucking 😊
Whole lot easier to get 8mpg when the truck is loaded 20 tons at the max, on flat ground, going 65.
👍🏽
I no what you are saying I'm always heavy and I run out west in the mountains I'm getting 4.8 - 5.4 might 21 kw w990 18 spd 605 Cummins
Thankyou
Take care and catch you on the next one 👍 🇨🇦
@@flintcreektransport sorry I totally forgot to say thanks for a response I didn't think not even for a minute or at least a couple seconds think that I would have got a response. I am fairly certain that you don't have alot of spare time and still you took some of it for me. You own a fleet of trucks and I know what that is like. The fact that you even have any time for all this social media stuff. So ya ty for that for just a nobody like myself.👍🇨🇦
Your trucks are vocational trucks. Heavy truck built for heavy loads… and not too far south and you have foothills and mountains.
Thankyou
Great video I love it. To me all your videos have been great just keep them coming.
Thanks, will do!
We done heavy haul end dump hauling coal we pulled 145000 an 4 mpg was fuel sipping ..these 218 ratio trucks fall flat on ther face if the see a hill..
Well some times it's a up hill haul or if you luck out sometimes you don't luck out and it cost you much more than you think trucking is really hard
Thanks very informative.
144 is nice I would drive it would definitely pull house
4 - 5 is normal for working trucks with pto ect,
Interesting …… Thankyou for sharing
Great video very informative I'm from the south so lot different
Trucks that are getting that kind of fuel mileage aren't pulling any weight generally and are on flat grounds and anybody saying they're getting that kind of pulling weight arent going west going through the hills . People saying they get that kind of mileage have no understanding due to not have been around that much. Probably just got their CDL and the first job is driving a straight truck hauling birthday balloons and need to tell the world what they think.
Interesting Jastin !!!!!!!!
I’ve driven a few. If I get a chance I’d take one off road. That’s the real test
I thought the motor on a Lonestar with 458 to 852,008 gross out typically at 1:40 with extra dark yet so I hear ya in the truck only had 250,000 I’ll order to get rebuilt
Sorry I had a 450 hp and and I was haul 120,000 on 6axe and had to rebuilt motor at 248,000mi not good
👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
That’s not going off a us gallon though…… you guys have bigger gallons
It’s amazing how much difference some of those things make
Man that's a great example of what I have been trying to say all trucking is different from the other haul ever haul is really difficult to try to expect but none of us is that good yet lol i wish we could have it figured out by now but we don't lol😅
You guys are awesome and keep up the great work 👍 👏 some time people talk shit about absolutely nothing that you guys do 😆
Thankyou
❤, just let me know if you’re interested in doing the sale 😻.. like the blue colour especially the flat top..
😜
@@flintcreektransport look 👀.
Justin some guys just like to criticize their not doing what ur guys like u said tk has to run to unload. Same with dump raising body more fuel keep up good job. God bless
explained well.
I have a 2008 Kenworth wl 900 I pull step deck I got anywhere from 4.5 to 7 miles it just depends on what I am hauling and how heavy I am
Exactly and plus how far you travel!
@@George-dy3pt this trip I am pulling 6 pulling a pipe from Boston to north Dakota
That's good especially going against the wind! People just live in a fairytale world and I swear common sense don't exist anymore!
@@George-dy3pt true
Some British operators are running volvo and scania with more than 700 bhp ..and thats with 6×2 configuration doing various types of work...still returning 8 to 10 mpg ...and there fitted with automatic gearboxes..we run 500 bhp 6×2 volvos with automatic gearboxes...never had any issues with tight turns or tight entrances in farms . Building sites etc ...and we run flat bed trailers as well ...
I guarantee you ain't hauling a 100k
Dumb American here but what is a 6x2
Remember we have the us gallon here. I think the imperial gallon is 25% more. In reality it’s very close mpg to us …..
@drewl4762 what you would call a single drive
@@drewl4762 The 6 is axle ends, so three axles and the 2 is drive ends, so one drive axle a tag or pusher and the front axle.
Well 1 reason for the low m.p.g. is all of the trucks are classic styled(big long tall hood)...it's like driving a brick into the wind..no aerodynamics
That has basically nothing to do with mpg in our application
I get you love Kenworth, but have you ever looked into Freightliner Columbia Gliders?
Yes. The suspension on those don’t seem to hold up
Hello Mister, Nice truck you have, i love that color, What engine have?
Cat power
Do you have alot of clutch problems? Thats alot of weight to take off with. Great video awesome fleet of units.
No….. we get the heavier clutch as well
Do you guys put dump valves on your spread axle trailers to reduce tire wear?
Usually not….. it’s easy to forget to put air back in and then they slide them
What is that tractor weigh or the single driveline? How much weight are you saving. I’m curious to know what that thing would weigh full of fuel
Some of those things make a pretty significant difference. I don’t own any but I just looked at them at the show
Nice Looking Rig ( The Blue One ) I’m really liking the content… Justin, On the other vid when you purchased the truck in Illinois, My Question is? Do you ever get a Truck Dyno? I just purchased my 1st Rig and I passed on a 2011 KW T800, It had two oil leaks and it was Derating. ( It made Peak HP but when it got warm, the HP Number Dropped ) So, learn doing a pre-inspection at the motor Manufacturer is a good system, I was wondering do you do the same? Or because you have a shop, you can afford a hiccup or two?
We have done it a time or 2 ….. not much benefit ……
@@flintcreektransport That would make a interesting video, in terms of your purchasing procedure, Your checklist oppose to a smaller freight pre-inspection procedure/checklist!!! Thanks for responding!!!!
500 lbs allowance for APU !!
You were right Drivers ????????????
Man you don't need to explain anything as long as your pockets are fine and ya'll look cool making money just tell me when you're going to put a truck or two in Richmond va..
😜👍🏽
Hey Justin, what are your thoughts on the Peterbilt 589?
I’m gonna do a video on it ….
It’s coming …….. whether or not you want my opinion 🤣🤣
@@flintcreektransport lol it’s an emissions truck so I have a great idea where you sway on it. Lol 😂
These new trucks I wouldn't trust to drive them the newer Freightliner Cascadia sore nothing but a pile of junk when you're into farming and Agriculture and off-road Trucking you need an old-school truck a heavy special truck these big Mega carriers they don't care they buy these old Cascadia Cascadia semis or throw away trucks I want something I can put on the road and it's reliable and old-school Kenworth for an old-school Peterbilt I want something you can put a board on a flatbed trailer and drive it down the road and the engine don't quit on you before you get out of the driveway I wouldn't trust driving it Freightliner Cascadia semi to church on Sundays cuz the thing might break down you need old school Trucking when you're in avocado tree in farming and God bless you and thank you😊
Seems like the truck manufacturers are building trucks more for fleets than o/o
Guys pulling dry boxes with ugly aerodynamic trucks, with Amazon good’s in the box telling everyone they should get amazing mileage. Hauling bulk commodities is different. A motor is going to burn more fuel pulling 80-105k pounds vs 55k pounds.
I don’t think Amazon load’s ever weigh more than 15,000 ….
In my opinion, that’s the way to go!!
You don’t buy a long nose truck for fuel mileage!!!
Has very little or basically no improvement in our application
Just a question from a non driver, that is ignorant to the trucking industry.
Do you feel that over regulation is an issue?
Do you think that the government has overreached, and is causing more harm than benefit?

Absolutely!!!!! Emissions being the biggest !!!!!

Are you guys hiring?
Def fill out a application so we have it …. But I think they just hired someone
Problem i see is in today's world you have to justifie way you run the trucks you run and pay to run to anyone who isn't paying your bills😢
Just get fleet trucks these dinasours will burn your money
Justen your story don’t fly😢
Is it just me or does this dude remind anyone else of a younger former president Obama ?? Fuel mileage depends on the application .......short haul or long haul , on or off road ,van or tanker , belt trailer or hopper bottom etc. Also if you run trailers that require p.t.o. operation , it'll drag down fuel mileage. Anytime you do off road work , fuel mileage suffers...... That's the bottom line. good job on your videos
Thankyou
Freightliner Cascadia trucks are looking but a pile of junk
Pretty obvious to me. Your not just runnng up and down nterstaes and bumping docks when you are Ag truckng! Your runnng PTO's and crawling through muddy yards. etc. People need to get a clue!! Todd Konoske the retred trucker.
I hate fleet trucks and they wear flip flops and do not run cb’s i consider them to be on vacation! They are not part of the brotherhood!
It’s all part of it…….
The new peterbilts are ugly
