For his first album on Deutsche Grammophon, Joe Hisaishi, the revered Japanese composer whose work has become synonymous with the magical Studio Ghibli animations of director Hayao Miyazaki has created an exciting series of symphonic arrangements of his original soundtracks for such Ghibli classics as Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and My neighbor Totoro. Fittingly titled A Symphonic Celebration, it presents state-of-the-art recordings of his extraordinary work for this much-loved artistic force in animated movie-making. Recorded in London by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by the composer, its tracks are newly arranged by Hisaishi for symphony orchestra and features Grace Davidson, Avi Avital, Bach Choir and Stephen Morris.
Hisaishi ranks among Japan’s greatest composers of all time and is famed worldwide for his collaborative work with Oscar-winning director, animator and Studio Ghibli founder Hayao Miyazaki. Their creative partnership began in 1984 with the post-apocalyptic anime feature Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and has since developed to the point that they are now likened to other legendary director-composer pairings, including Hitchcock and Herrmann, Fellini and Rota, Leone and Morricone, and Spielberg and Williams. Indeed, Hisaishi’s reputation has been secured by the fact that his soundtracks have won eight Japanese Academy Awards, an unprecedented achievement. He is equally acknowledged, however, as a conductor and as a composer of contemporary classical music, much of it minimalistic and experimental in nature, like that of friends and colleagues such as Philip Glass, Terry Riley and Nico Muhly.

I was there at the second row. It was definitely my top three concert that I've visited.
haruka kanata ni nemuru hito yo
hitomi tojireba hirogaru
ano hi no yasashii koe
eien no hikari ga tsuchi ni kaeru you ni
daichi no yurushi ga todoku made
Far away, on the other side, is a sleeping person
If you close your eyes, it spreads out
The gentle voice of that day
It seems like eternal light is returning to the earth
Until it reaches the forgiveness of the earth
shinjite, tomo ni ikiru koto
soshite umareru tsuyosa
miagete, tooku wo hanaretemo
kokoro wo hitotsu ni musubu ai, kibou no sora
Believe in living together
And in the strength that is born
Look up, even if you go far away
A love that binds (two) hearts into one, a sky of hope
Hisaishi looks very pleasant and very happy with the performance of this wonderful orchestra and the soprano. Beautiful performance !
He leads the orchestra without eccentricities or arrogance. Ten points.
This song carries a wonderful message.
After the battle, despite harboring resentment, sadness, and difficult emotions towards each other, it is a song that embodies the desire for peace and the intention to live together.
In the face of nature, humans are insignificant, and eventually, when they die, they all return to the earth.
This poem teaches that all people are a part of the grand nature.
It tells us that when we acknowledge this and strive to live together, strength, love, and hope become visible.
And when that is achieved, it carries the grand theme of receiving true forgiveness from nature.
❤.
It is a beautiful peace that not only symbolizes the falling in love of two people, but that also very importantly signifies the felling in love for life itself and what it has to offer.
Amazing work done by Joe Hisaishi. Truly one of his best compositions.
the quality of the recording is insane- thank you
Not me getting emotionally destroyed over here by this beautiful piece. Although he is not Chopin or Beethoven, something about his music will live for many generations, surely.
I couldn’t help but feel sad after this movie. It left a void in my life. It was so immersive and the characters were so real. And sen and ashitakas romance was too real. I just have to turn to the music or community to make me feel somewhat better. Huge bravo to Miyazaki and hisaishi. I can’t wait to watch more ghibli.
This violinist's artistic interpretation and emotional connection to the music are so intriguing. Bravo!
thank you (:
Agree as well, the arrangement is also really good for it.
How lovely! Kudos to all, especially the violinist Sophie Heinrich and the soprano Katharina Melnikova for their incredible talent and aura... Many thanks to you!
one of the most beautiful performances of this song ever. i watch it several times a week.
I got tears in my eyes when she started singing 😭❤️. I wasn't expecting that.
Hearing this music evokes a feeling of longing for a place that is far away but close to the heart. A paradox. There is hope intertwined with a long wait.
How can we not cry to listen this beautiful thing?
Just let your tears tell you everything ...
Pure joy & peaceful music !
When you understand people but , people don't understand you
When you think about friends , children & loved ones , but they don't
When you hate to see someone dear to you suffering , but they don't
Remember , be you ...
One of the most moving recordings I've heard of this piece!
1:20-1:30 that violin part was so great it had me in tears
Thank you
@sophieheinrich4228 I, too, am a violinist myself

Oh to have been there in person. One day I hope my dream comes true.
I really wished this music was included in his latest CD
Beautiful vocalist voice!
I hope this song will be played when the war is over
Joe Hisaishi is perhaps not Beethoven, but he is definitely one of the Johannes Strausses of our age. The other is Ennio Morricone.
haha.....
When asked who was his musical hero, Hisaishi answered: Beethoven.
I have had the chance to meet him and talk with him and sing in his choir in 2011 in paris’ zenith.......🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Once in a lifetime experience!!
Violin ❤❤❤❤
Thank you (:
I was there, I didn't like the first half of the concert, but the second half was truly amazing!
This piece deserves a better performance than a "correct" one.
Originally this music is for piano and orchestra. But this Musikverine concert there's arrangement change. Solo violin, femele vocal and the orchestra~~! New approach still beautiful~~! Release the full concert in DVD or Bluray soooon~~~:)
Te amo Japón
This is such amazing music, thank you for gifting us with it. What is the vocalist's name? She sounds fantastic.
It's Grace Davidson.
Katharina Melnikova

Mononoké émerveillée 🎼🎻👹
Been there. Seen that. The only question is when will you (DG) publish that in 4k? (Luv you :-) )
"Great performance, well done. If possible, could you please play "Golden Parade" by the Egyptian musician Hisham Nazih, as part of the diversity you offer. Thank you very much for your wonderful work."
Love the music, where can I find the music?
🌍☮️🎼👏🏼👏🏼
Fantastique !
I’d like to know the meaning of the song.
The lyrics go as:
Far away, on the other side, is a sleeping person
If you close your eyes, it spreads out
The gentle voice of that day
It seems like eternal light is returning to the earth
Until it reaches the forgiveness of the earth
Believe in living together
And in the strength that is born
Look up, even if you go far away
A love that binds (two) hearts into one, a sky of hope

@@Julie-ut7zx i live in germany but end of this year i come to tokyo first time
@@truth-seeeekerme too 😂
You can tell the European orchestra is not used to playing in this style. The timing is all over the place and yet stiff at the same time. You really need a Hollywood orchestra or a Japanese orchestra to do Hisaishi’s music justice
[edit] I’m sure this orchestra is top notch at playing Beethoven and Mozart. I’m not saying they’re bad. They’re just not used to playing this kind of music and it shows
Only the winds were in place, no surprise Hisaishi only showed smiles at them.
I mean its so simple musically I feel they want to do more with it than there actually is to do
Agree!!
I clearly am not educated, I thought it was lovely..
Too much rubato
1:56 is there something going on between these two? 😂
Who is the singer? Is she Amanda Achen?
