    Thanks for the video! Very informative. Just to clarify, some MRes' out there (such as the one I did at UCL) do require level 7 masters modules. This required me to undertake both winter and summer exams. The project was however, double the worth of the grade relative to the MSc version of the same course.

    I'd say the information on the MSc definitely doesn't speak for all of them. Mine was a conversion MSc which is a lot more similar in workload to the MRes, you have more support in terms of teaching, but also multiple exam modules and an intensive 12 months of work; 5-6 months of which is the research project. So look properly into what kind of MSc it is as they are not always a simple extension of BSc and can be more challenging than previously thought.

    Wanted to say for some sciences MSc can be obtained by doing a year in industry (typically working on actual research project with true applications). As such it’s values is greater than MRes as the wealth and breadth learnt from industrial sciences has more punch. Also if going into industry MSc with actual year out industry would outweigh a MRes.
    I did an MSc in Chemistry and it was better than doing a MPhil or MRes and opened more doors than otherwise.

    Thx so much for doing this! I noticed is that you did not cover MPH which is totally understandable as your background is not in Public Health. That said, it would be great if you had guest speakers who did MPH.

    An MSc is not the ‘same’ as a BSc, the content is a step greater and some MSc can be incredibly intensive and last longer than a year

    I was wondering about the difference between these degrees and a MEng. I want to do Bioengineering and I saw that in some places you get a MSc, would this be worse for my career prospects?

    I feel like there is also a huge difference in MSc-degrees, depending on what country and university you are studying at!. For example, this MSc. I'm probably pursuing (have not decided yet, because I got accepted by multiple unis) has 3x 6-8 week long research projects and a thesis research project of 6-8 months as compulsory parts of the curriculum 😎
    Unfortunately there are generally no MRes offered in Germany and most PhD positions actually mainly accept students with a MSc.
    I guess in the end it just depends on what you're able to make out of your Masters 😁
    Good video, as always ☺️

    This was lowkey confusing to figure out because I live in america, but I think we basically have the same degrees, we just call them slightly different things and have slightly different requirements.
    For any americans:
    MRes = Terminal Masters of Science in Research (2yrs)
    MSc = Masters of Arts (2yrs)
    MPhil = Masters of Science in Research that you can only get while working toward a PhD (2yrs)
    PhD = PhD (5-7yrs)
    BSc = Post-bachelors degree (1yr)

    Sister, can you put a text on the vid at 8:47 saying you were wrong because I know for a fact that an MPhil is used in Cambridge as a stepping stone toward a PhD in *our* (medical) field of study. ( I plan to do that MPhil girl)

    • @abiodunadegbesan1668
      @abiodunadegbesan1668 2 года назад

      Totally agree
      MPhil isn’t necessarily a failed PhD
      People take Mphil programs as a path towards a PhD
      And it’s the highest level of masters degree
