Which major are you most interested in?
@@tyrese6994 That's awesome
JOJO ! I would pick the one I’m passionate about and if you later change your mind you can switch into one of those others because business degrees are so flexible like she said people in HR or marketing don’t even have a business degree You can def find a job in supply chain!
I’m majoring in economics with mathematics as a minor
@JOJO ! You can definitely find a job in supply chain just start doing internships early so you can have that experience by the time you graduate! You can get paid really well if you do supply chain in tech or for a large company
@@bryantgutierrez2440 That's really good!!
Currently in my 3rd year in Finance.. I’ve interned for a large tech company in their Finance program & I have an internship next summer for a large consulting company. Finance definitely opens a lot of doors & is one of the reasons I chose the major.
I just switched my major to finance I love learning about it Can I ask how you were able to get the internships? Very impressive btw
@@tracy_cakkes Through campus recruiting mainly . Companies come to my school to recruit. I attend any informational sessions & events for certain companies I’m most interested in. I’m also very active on LinkedIn, so I search for internships in my field on there & connect with the recruiters through the site.
I suggest visiting your school’s career center, getting active on LinkedIn, and applying for opportunities way ahead of time. The internship I have for next summer, I interviewed for in August & got a decision in September.
That’s exactly how I got all of mine. Keep up the work💜
Hey I'm a senior in hs and also planning to major in finance. Are the classes you take hard?
how do i get into bcom in uni and what were your grades in high school
1. Accounting and Finance (specialized field for stable jobs)
2. MIS (management information system, coding + busniess, very versitile degree)
3. supply chain management (Amazon has good supply chain management so your items will deliver within 1-3 business days)
4. International business ( good major to couple with a language major/minor)
5. Marketing (you get good pay by working in good tech companies, not so good pay if not, mediocre degree)
6. Management (very general)
7. Business and Administration (super general, maybe a waste of time to learn about general business)
8. Human Resources (HR is a great position but no HR degree is needed to get into the field)
9. Entrepreneurship (you can't learn this in a classroom, you can only learn it by doing it, so it is a very useless degree)
Thanks for the info Lynette!
an i get a stable job with a management degree??
@@yuh2620 tbh I would use that more if you are trying to start your own business in the future. It is a very versatile degree to have so yes, you can have a stable job with it, very high paying? Probably not without extra certifications/education. But it teaches pretty much everything a business needs and how to do all that. Instead of starting a business and having to high diff ppl for diff stuff, you already know how to market, maintain

My mom was a manager in HR and she had an incomplete English Degree so I agree - you don't necessarily need a degree in HR (or a degree at all) to get a job in that field.
I am currently doing my A levels, I fully agree with you, life is pretty short to waste time learning things in university which we can do on your own. Many too successes of the world didn't even finish university but still made their way though life with their own research and pursuit of knowledge. Thanks.
I have a supply chain/logistics degree and I believe it’s a very useful yet very underrated business degree. Supply chain/ logistics jobs are always going to be there. These jobs for the most part pay above average. With the move away from traditional brick and mortar stores, these jobs are especially important in the digital age of online shopping that we live in. Supply chain is so important that it’s the reason why Apple is delaying so many new products this year. Good logistical planning can mean the difference between gaining/losing customers or good/poor stock performance or having/not having a competitive advantage over the competition.
From your personal experience is it pretty easy to land the job? And what’s normally the range in salary?
@@ashrafdeenabu-awad2776 It wasn't easy to land the job due to due my lack of experience. I was just looking for an employer to give me a chance to gain experience and show them what I am capable of. My current employer gave me the job because of my enthusiasm and go-getter attitude. Fro my position which I consider to be entry level (even though its not) the salary range is between $33K and $60K.
Thank you for sharing Shawn! It's super helpful hearing other ppl's experience with their degrees.
Thanks for sharing man. I'm also studying supply chain management and like you said it is a under rated business degree. SCM may not be as sexy as a finance degree but I believe it is very employable cheers
@@CarlosAlberto-ih9op No problem. I totally agree with what you said. I'm here to share my experiences. Good luck with your studies brother. Praying for success in your future endeavors.
Good video! I will say accounting/finance is usually grouped with economics as well. Those are the three that I see together alot.
Thank you! And yeah economics is a great alternative if you can't get into business school!
Lynette Adkins my econ degree was actually in the business college in my university! But I guess there are different kinds!
@@muslims4ever1 Oh nice! That's awesome
Unless you take multi-variable calculus and linear algebra, as well as a bit of coding, I wouldn’t recommend economics if you’re trying to get a job after undergrad. It’s not as marketable because it’s taught as a social science not a business discipline.
@@rubenduarte2982 at my university it is taught as both. We have one in the business college
Thanks for giving me the confidence to take the leap. I'm gonna start my major in IB and specialize in marketing.
In my view all business degrees are great and amazing (except entrepreneurship). With any business major you can do a lot of things! I am currently doing undergrad in Business administration with specialization in Banking and Finance. After that I'm planning to do MBA in either Healthcare Management or Supply Chain Management.
I am majoring in Business Admin but I have a minor in Hospitality and plan to go into the hospitality industry and feel that having that Business major gave me a bit more of an advantage. Although I do understand I could have gotten management or even entrepreneurship.
I can’t decide whether I want to pursue Marketing, MIS or IB…. I’m interested in the digital side of marketing, technical side of MIS, and the global side of IB plus I’m fluent in Chinese…
Go for MIS or IB . marketing degrees usually focus on traditional ways of marketing but digital marketing is the way to go now. And u don’t need a degree for that just get an additional certificate for digital marketing
Thank you for sharing your opinions and experience. These videos are particularly important for me as I'm choosing a major right now. I'm currently considering MIS, Marketing, and Economics.
Accounting is the most employable. But satisfaction is low. The people I see with greatest satisfaction has been supply chain. While accounting majors become accountants (usually) those in supply chain have various titles. They don't find jobs as quickly out the gate as accountants but their starting pay seems to be higher. MIS is the other one.
I totally agree I didn't waste my time getting a Business Management Associate Degree, I just got the Business Management Certificate. The certificate was quicker minus 3 more class's I would need for the degree.
I’ve been thinking about doing that for digital marketing but a lot of jobs require a bachelors and then the certificate is not much shorter than the degree
That's whats up those certificates are also a really good way to go!
I think the certificate is most useful for ppl who are getting a non-business bachelor's degree
How did you get the certificate? I am confused
@@tracy_cakkes what?
What jobs require an international business degree? I think nowadays with college being oversaturated it is only worth doing a degree that is needed for the career you want
Good vid, I think supply chain mgmt is underrated. Think about the success of Amazon, all of this relies on: warehouse capacity, forecasting, demand planning, ramps and peaks etc all of this is supply chain. Salary for this type of professional is very good. With manufacturing costs being at an all time low, producibility and lead times are going to be what companies want
What subjects fall under supply chain?
Amazon have Ai and based on search results they display products on their home page on the given region. They don't forecast or plan demands much. They are just Fullfilment centers where a supplier or vendor signs up. They just make sure where to keep the inventory based on search data. No real forecasting or demand planning done at amazon.
@@Lazymath007_ Analytics is very much basic, and then Procurement, manufacturing(includes optimization), Inventory control and management, Logistics and Transportation(shipping, air freight, Road frieghts etc etc or multimodal transportation). All of these can be their own Degrees.
@@insomniac9430 I majored in Logistics Management and I just got an offer for my first real job today! I loved the major; it was so much fun!
indeed!
I don't if I should say this but alot of Giant narco businessmen like Escobar, Gallardo, Chapo, etc. heavily relied their success through supply chain management related skills... just saying
You're proving my point about your other videos that disparage getting a business degree, "They are not worth anything." It is unlikely you would know all these dimensions of business you list in this video if you hadn't gotten a business degree. Different students leverage their time and investment in an undergrad biz degree differently. But I am impressed by the broad world of business you described in this video. Your degree was far more worth than what the titles of some of your videos let on about.
International Business - you need to learn at least one language, Otherwise you are lacking in skills.
HR majors promote themselves in business(!) I avoid the HR group with all my might in any company I have worked in. Employees that fail at other jobs are put in HR - think about that, the state of social justice warrior companies.
There are excellent Entrepreneurship programs where you meet important people and get Critical Thinking experience - you are right at the end - these are just your opinions from a sample of one - that is, UT.
Currently work in accounting, ( private sector) I love it because you can transition to operations management / supply chain easily as you work very closely together, definitely a lot of career opportunities in both accounting & the supply chain. ( In the private sector )
Experience, experience, experience🚶 Ive got an engineering degree and I work as a supply chain manager. Its all about the skill set👍
Thank you for sharing! I was wondering if you can make a video on how to create a business and marketing plan for a startup business? Thanks again!
Yes! I made a couple of vids on these already, check them out and let me know if you have anymore you want to see! ruclips.net/video/9EGwlPMpJK4/видео.html , ruclips.net/video/nDCaUVlV2Uo/видео.html
What’s the difference between advertising and marketing? Which do you think is better? Also I agree with everything you said You should definitely specialize with a business major because they’re already so flexible
From what I've seen, advertising is more creative focused while marketing is more focused on the business side of reaching customers. So advertising would be planning commercials/social media ads while marketing would be working more closely with sales to plan events, email campaigns, etc.
I would put MIS in the #1 slot tbh.... it's the degree of the future.
I think they kinda tie
This video was definitely informative!! I almost did business administration and now I understand that it’s important to specialize in a field
What business degree should I get? I was planning on administration, but Im not sure at this point. I want to have a versatile degree and not be too stuck and limited to a certain job or career. I have interests in getting a job in sales (probably real estate). But also other business jobs could be an option. Im a junior in hs right now. Let me know if you could help
Totally agree with so much you said! This would've been such a useful video for me before going to college. I did marketing as well & agree, it is not a necessary degree to do marketing. I don't regret it thought because it's a role that is in every industry. I was undecided for a really long time & still don't have a specific "dream job" but marketing is a great way to explore different fields and get good knowledge of it. I also agree an entrepreneurship major is probably not necessary, but my university offered a certificate or minor in it as well. I got a certificate in it because I had extra electives to fill anyway and it wasn't many classes. That I will say is very beneficial, honestly I think in any major or industry (even if you aren't a business major). I'd highly recommend that if you have the option
Hey Lynette! I am having dilemma between Marketing & Accounting and Finance for my degree... The thing is I think that Marketing may be more interesting to me as it is something that requires more creativity(in which im not sure if I am) and critical thinking... whereas i think ACF would probably secure a better job security and salary... I am fine with learning ACF but I am not sure if I have passion in ACF (or even marketing) and also I am told to be okay to deal with numbers everyday if I were to work as an accountant or auditor and etc
What did you decide ending up with?

You’re partly correct. Accounting and MIS is the most useful business degrees. Finance and economics are both useless in terms of job market.
Why do you think finance and economics are useless?? Is it hard to get a job with those degrees?
Maribel Lopez yes. They're not hollow degrees as in they have a lot of interesting things but in terms of jobs you won't use them. The few jobs that you can really use them, they want Phd's and those are in banking called quants. Economics only useful for federal reserve but not many jobs there. Finance degree teaches you things for jobs that don't require a specific degree in banking where they train you. FP&A jobs or corporate financial planning and analysis is all managerial accounting. There are many areas of accounting like financial reporting, tax, internal audit, external audits, advisory, etc... there's many areas of MIS like business systems, data analytics. Both you need to know accounting and mis so it's better to major in both.
@@tawsifislam11 would you say it’s a good idea to major in MIS and minor in accounting or vice versa? Or double major?
Maribel Lopez either double major or bachelor in one, masters in the other. If you want my advice, bachelors in MIS and masters in accounting. You can finish in5 years and be CPA eligible as well.
@@tawsifislam11 I know pretty much all “corporate finance” jobs are basically accounting, but would you say people with finance majors get hired for “financial analyst” or do those jobs mostly go to accounting majors?

I would like to use my creativity and social skills. Any more insight on marketing/advertising/business operations/sales?
Hey! I'm looking at going to college for business, but I'm not quite sure what area in business specifically yet. I love the idea of working for smaller brands. So things like advertising said brand, marketing, working on expanding it, dealing with shipping labels/packaging, figuring out costs/expenses, and customer service (business emails and answering questions).
I'm really not sure what direction to take in college for this... any ideas lol
You should look into a logistics degree.
@@Lastone_laughing thank you! I will look into that:)
Or you could also try general Business Management/Administration, which is always a good choice for people who are not entirely sure what they want to do, as it is general, and you'll have a well rounded education in business, and if you want to specialise, you could do that also, but atleast you'll have a well rounded background to fall back on with BA.
I think a business degree or entreneurship degree is good if you want to start a business because a lot of businesses fail within the first 6 months and people have no knowledge of how a successful business should run plus it gives you a plain A and B to have a business and a career to fall back on
Amazing list! Thank you so much for this.
Lynette! You’re amazing! Thank-you so much for being so helpful and honest xx❤️
Respectfully, marketing is way more likely to be replaced by AI than accounting
Double major graduate here (MIS/Accounting.)
I totally agree with your video except that I would have ranked MIS as number one and Accounting/Finance in second place.
Also, the jobs getting automated in accounting and finance industry are the low level/ data entry ones. So, if anything, its great news cause nobody wants to do stupid mind numbing tasks. So no worries about the finance or accounting field going away at all.
Anyway, my two majors (especially MIS) have opened so many doors is ridiculous.

What do you recommend for me to pair with this degree to make myself more marketable? I like learning languages and do it as a hobby, I speak three and am learning German at the moment. Any ideas?
Please don’t do that. Do something more specialized like accounting or finance. Business management won’t land you a (good) job. No one lets a recent college grad manage their business.
@@toonx496 I certainly don't expect to manage anyone's business, my expectations are to be able to land entry level jobs in different areas be it hr, marketing, sales, operations, etc

I know that this comment probably wont be liked, but I strongly think that in order for you degree or any qualification you must have the work experience to match it. A few years a go I did a Cert IV in Frontline Management, and I have supervision experience. But when I go for jobs being a supervisor etc I don't get them. The feed back I always get is that the other candidate had better work experience. My conclusion now is that if your studying you should also be working other wise it will all be theory and no practise and your qualification may not give you the opportunities that you dreamt about.

Hey! I study international Business Management at my College and I think the degree is very helpful if you Want to work in a global company
I'm planning to go for that degree because I want to maybe have my own business or work in a big global company
Hi Lynette, you mentioned that a marketing degree is great, but it depends on the industry that you work in. Would you say that that is similar with an international business degree? Also, if that's the case, how would someone with an IB major best position themselves to be competitive within the business field?
Would minoring in something related to tech be helpful to be more specialized/competitive or do you feel as if to minor in tech is not competitive enough compared to someone with a "tech-like" major? Obvs, it's probably not, but hopefully you get what I'm trying to ask.
Definitely - I should've mentioned that just about all of these majors depend on the industry you end up going into. For all of these (especially IB), getting internships and networking throughout college is key to setting yourself up for success. And yes, I think minoring in tech could be helpful, just remember that experience beats a degree, so if you can make connections early and get an internship in the tech industry, that will better. Some ppl add tech minors and get so overwhelmed with work that they put off networking/recruiting until too late in their college career.
Great video! My school offers a BSBA In information management. I don’t see that they have MIS so I’m thinking this may be equivalent to it? Do you think information management is good for someone who eventuality wants to go into marketing?

@@tracy_cakkes oh ok that makes sense! Thank you!! :)
Yes I think that is probably very similar if your program is focused on technology! And yes, that could be great for marketing especially if you want to do marketing in tech :)
Great video, I have a simple yet crucial question though. I'm going into Business Administration, getting a bachelor in 4 years. I want to specify more in my 5th year, by getting an MBA, is that a good option?
My experience: Current MBA student.
It depends on your overall situation. Having the chance to walkout with an MBA after 5 years undergrad is not necessarily a bad thing. However, keep in mind that if you lack work experience you are going to be in this strange position of being overqualified for entry level but not exactly mid level just yet. Most people recommend work experience as the combination of work experience and the degree will usually boost you up to senior level positions. Depending on the field you plan to go into make sure you have projects/experiences to prove you belong at the mid level, or sell yourself humbly to get an entry level job thus getting your foot in the door.

That's whats up you got this!!
What do you think of entrepreneurship and innovation management MSc
What 2 sub majors should I choose with an International Business major? I am considering marketing since that's what I want to work in, but do I choose studying a language other than English or should I do finance or econ?
Same situation!!! I want to major in IB and minor in marketing. The university i got accepted to has a language track which means you need to study a foreign language and region of the world. I already speak two languages (Spanish and English) so I’m planning to do Chinese and focus on Asia Region. Btw it’s UT Austin which is same school she went lol
although Accounting is an important business degree personally learning about numbers is sooo boring plus i was never good at math i somewhat disagree that entrepreneurship is the least important business major i find that it's a good course for creative people like myself I've read that entrepreneurs and artist/s are very similar in that they both like to use their creativity my purpose studying entrepreneurship is liking the innovation aspect in the business world my dream is to become a commercial photographer after all
"wear" did you get your necklace from? LOL :P and the painting that's on your wall? let me know
It is boring but it’s less math than what people think
Hi Lynette, I like your videos and I saw most of them.
I am majoring in Management and I want to add a minor with and I have many options. but I'm interested in those minors. What do you think is the better choice: 1- Marketing 2- MIS 3- Economics.
I would major in MIS and minor in management if it's not too late to switch
@@LynetteAdkins unfortunately i cant because if i majored in MIS i can't have a minor at all. it is too late to do that now. i suppose that you recommend me to take MIS as minor along with my management major. right ?
@@al-yazenal-wahaibi3739 maybe yes
I’m majoring in marketing too😊
what anout strategic management? Can you give me insights on this major? I'm a Civil Engineer who is planning on changing my career path to business world.
Hey, hope you read my comment. I’m currently studying digital media at my first year and it’s basically “web design, graphic design, photography, crating videos and a bit of digital marketing” I was thinking about changing my major to business because I think graphic design and these skills are easy to learn online and they are based on self studying, and I think everyone is getting into this tech world and starting to be good at these skills. So do you think it’s better if I go for a business degree and also learn these skills and take some courses on my free time?
Hey there. Just a little reminder that learning Graphic Design at Uni is not at all a waste. It's only if you're only looking for drawing improvement, whereas in fact, the networks formed with professors and students within campus will help you a lot later in pursuit of a serious career in GD. That is not to mention the fact that the curriculum is already chosen carefully and chronologically for you to learn, and lots of honest feedbacks during your time there. Good luck!
Since you are emphasizing on getting a specialized degree, then business administration should be last on the list.
BA is very general degree.
I've got a question for you, Lynette! I'm in my freshman year of a marketing program. At my university, there are two variants of the marketing degree: Marketing & IT and Marketing & Graphics. The former is targeted towards those who want to work in tech-related marketing, while the latter is for those interested in PR and advertising. I'm really interested in the Marketing & Graphics variant, but I've heard it's very competitive and doesn't offer the same salary as tech-related marketing, which is also important to me. Based on your experience, is the tech degree worth it in the end even if it doesn't fulfill your creative needs?
i’m about to start an organizational leadership program next semester (spring 2021) is it worth it?
Don't.
I was expecting MIS at 1 😅
She's correct about MIS being second, but she's wrong about Finance being tied with Accounting for first. Accounting is all alone at number one. Finance is actually lower on the list, no higher than third or fourth.
Finance majors make the most money & can work anywhere.
I am a Co-op in supply chain... it’s great and well paying
That's awesome, thanks for the insight!
Is supply chain good in Canada?
What subjects fall under supply chain?
@@user-qy6tu9ip9v It is.
@@insomniac9430 Thanks brother.
Totally agree!
Is international business management a good option?
Dual major or switch tbh. I just graduated with an IB degree and believe Finance or accounting degrees would have served me better. Its not a bad option but Finance, Accounting and MIS will make you more right out of college.
What should I go about digital marketing whats the best path
when she called international business "IB" i got flashbacks about international baccalaureate
Do you think an International Business major would do great ? I really don’t know which path to choose in Business… I’m not a pro in Accounting too… please help 🙏🏼
I'm getting My Associate of Applied Science in Business Administration Entrepreneurship. What kind of jobs are offered? Still indecisive of what to major for my bachelor's.
Which major is the most suitable for trading and investment? Can you give me an advice?
when’s a good year to start internships
As early as you can but typically sophomore or junior year is good!
What about Business Analytics?
Where would you rank International Business?
it's in the vid :)
@@LynetteAdkins Thanks
Hi Lynette. What do you think is the best double major/specialization in you opinion?: management information systems, finance and computer science, or management and computer science?
Do you think majoring in management and minoring in computer science is good ?
I did a double Major in accounting and finance and looking to do a masters in management consultancy , what do you think?
Hey, I am looking into majoring in either accounting or finance… I am interested in finding out why you’re looking at going back or continuing school if you don’t mind me asking. Have you struggled finding a job? Or maybe you have but not enough pay in your location?
@@erikzhagui1851 hello there , I am looking to go back into school as the masters that I mentioned opens doors such as a marketing manager , consultant for a business , supply chain manager. It has units such as Artificial intelligence which is relevant for many jobs. The pay is great for accounting or finance so I can fall back into any of them two careers if I wanted. With the masters it’s recognised world wide especially the US or Canada where the pay is significantly better , hence why I chose to study it
