i remember when they did a massive sale on supremes for the same price as a standard, I regret not buying one that time
Look like jascar EV gold frets. Those are actually copper alloy that looks like gold. Halfway between stainless and nickel in hardness, Nice frets. I have them on my signature Brian May guitar.
Not usually a fan of trans black finishes but that one looks gorgeous. Anyone else think those pups were a big upgrade over the 490's? (& I usually like the 490's but they sounded great to me)
Those pickups, push-pull knobs, with coil splitting, etc. sound great. The guitar is gorgeous. I hope it finds its way into the hands of a Player. 😎
God that instrument is amazing but it likely costs more than my cost of living was last year. I cant wait until I have the money to blow on something this nice though.
You can definitely hear that hot bridge pickup driving the amp a lot more than the neck!
I love how you are consistent with your demo riffs. I can generally tell what your going to play. You’ve gotten better that is for sure. You’re more confident with your playing these days.
IMO, that was one of if not the best sounding guitars you’ve reviewed in a long time
I was shocked after the readings how great the guitar sounded!......Still... nobody knows what fucking pups are in that thing lmao 😭
I felt like the changes were upgrades too. And I agree with your statement because it has been a long time since he reviewed a Fender! (Just kidding- I know this is primarily a Gibson geek channel! Which I am- but I love my Fender's too. Never understood why people used to feel like they had to choose sides- I've always loved them both!) Cheers P[>
@@patrickfoster4586 I dont like bolt on necks, also don't like fender neck in general. For me its not a gibson vs fender thing I just don't like strats and teles. I play on les pauls and esp eclipses. Some of the best songs were written and played on fenders, no hate there.
I've got a 2007 that I bought for myself for my 50th birthday. Love it only take it out on special occasions. Plug into my Fender 64 Deluxe Reverb and it sounds so sweet.
My LP Supreme is a 2007 as well! What color is yours?
@@jeremiahMc11 Heritage Cherry Sunburst AAAA woods look so good.
Great video Trogly! The frets on the early year LP Supremes are not coated in gold. They are Jescar 55090-EVO Gold alloy frets. Jescar remove the nickel element from their frets that create a harder fret, smoother feel, and - gold appearance. Not sure when they switched to coated frets. Mine is 2007 and has original frets and ebony fretboard.
Also- the 490R/498T pickups are a really weird choice for this guitar. I put Lollar Low Wind Imperials along with Emerson 50’s wiring kit in my 2007 LP Supreme. Those changes transformed it into something I will never sell.
I really disliked the 490R/498T pair in my LP. I swapped them out for Dimarzios and am quite happy.
Splicing the leads seems way harder than just fishing the controls into the cavity, which isn't really that hard. Also doing that means damaging the set of pickups you're taking out. It's not a good idea.
Splicing would be a heck of a lot easier than fishing for an amateur. I'm sure a more skilled technician would find fishing more worth their time, but that is a much more involved process. It isn't too hard to extend or replace a lead in a pickup - you're not ruining them
@@Trog all you need is those decorative pipe cleaners they sell at dollar stores to fish it through

Frets are gold colored all the way through, they are not plated.
If they were plated you'd never be able to level and dress the frets!
Trust me, the fret wire has a higher ratio of Brass in its makeup which gives the appearance of a gold tint.
True. I've heard they're brass rather than plated, but I haven't verified.
@@15or20 Correct Chris
Actually I believe the gold frets simply have a higher copper content than what is found in normal fret wire metal.
Frets are often referred to as Nickel Silver, when in actuality there is more Tin in their makeup than Nickel. Since Brass is made up of Copper and Tin it does make sense to refer to the gold colored frets as Brass.
Sorry for the long explanation.........
Jescar EVO gold fretwire.
Some LP Supremes did get coated gold instead of the Jescar Evo
@@jeremiahMc11 I did not know that, thanks you Jeremiah, much appreciated.
I have a half dozen Les Paul and Sg Supremes. They have the best tops of any and all regular production shop guitars. And most times the backs on LP Supremes are even nicer than the fronts.
Austin is in His House 🏠 of AWESOME Guitars
Randy, Greetings!
Good evening Randy.
Fantastic figuring! One of the finest I've ever saw.beautiful
Seeing your show brought me back to my days in GC warehouse… i recall getting a picture with a fender shop signature Clapton Blackie during my time… I’m not a guitar tech but i can play.. i play bass a bit. But I definitely want to say thanks! These vids have made me want to get a sixer again. Love this stuff. And guitar geeks. Thanks again!
BTW i was in pro audio sales… audio geek here
Very cool Oak City, Pro Audio has just as many deep rabbit holes to explore as guitar.
Go ahead and get yourself another guitar, playing is a great way to either relax or blow off steam.
I just picked an epiphone les Paul special, And gonna drop off my learner guitar neck from a bc rich knockoff i broke once when, to a buddy who Is a luthier and he’s seen me play bass. So he’s gonna revamp the neck of my 16YO 6 string bc BS guitar… lol i have so many stories from studio days… i had 9 guitars back then. Lol thanks for the reply.
@@OakCityGamers Good to hear you are getting back into it. Good Luck and above all else enjoy.
Those pups sounded really nice. I personally really dislike the globe on the headstock.. this finish is absolutely beautiful.
I’d much rather see the split diamond there myself rather than the globe, imo it would look much nicer.
Those pickups sounded amazing 👏 😍 what a gorgeous piece
I saw Lucas Nelson playing a J 200 Supreme On Austin City Limits. Beautiful guitar, had a signature on the sound board but couldn't make it out.
Trogly's in the HOUSE!!!
Greg is in the house!
Greg in the house
gotta appreciate the effort and enthusiasm trogly puts in to his vids
Hey trogly, the only Hendrix Woodstock Stratocaster clone is for sale on reverb. It was previously owned by John Mayer and this is the first time in exactly 20 years since it was made that it's for sale again. Check it out!
This pickups are wires in and out of phase on the push pulls, it makes a lot of sense and definitely sounds like it
I have a 2010 les Paul Supreme in heritage cherry sunburst-it’s stunning and sounds spectacular.
And yet, this sounds even moreso!! At first I was bummed to hear it had the pickups switched…but man, they friggin rocked. Awesome review! Maybe I should add to my collection… 🤔
Would love to see u do a video on a les Paul ultima with the flamed fingerboard
That’s a beautiful Les Paul! I really enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work.
Sounds GREAT love those tones, maybye they are a mid contour or mid boost? I had 1 on an Epi V.
Wow! The mods are definitely improvements on this guitar! It sounds much MUCH better than factory.
In my opinion, a "tap", is better than a full "split", because it sounds better. PRS has been doing this for years. I used to own a '79 335 that had a coil split toggle switch on the treble side horn, and the full split, sounded like crap.
Beautiful axe really, it also sounded very good too surprisingly with the pickup dilemma. Great show man 🤙
Interesting vid.. beautiful tones along with one of the best finishes I have seen...how much?
I personally think the mods are all reasonable and only make the guitar better -> the new pickups sound really good!
The woods on that one is amazing!
It would be really cool if someone from the Supremes played this.
I think the changes improved the sound of the guitar now it might just be a personal taste thing but it sounds better than other supremes I’ve heard.
Hey man, trans black is a winner every time in my book 🤷 looks nice with some flame or quilt, keeps it low key... just tasteful all arround to be honest.
Greetings and well wishes from Utah!
Radio Static, great to have you here.
Yeah, the Trans Black is a favorite of mine when they are new.
I've seen more than a few Trans Black fade out to a coffee color.
@@hkguitar1984 frankly I'm also a fan of the way it fades 🤷 sometimes its kinda off, but I've seen a lot that do fade really quite nicely.
Amd good to see you as well HK, hope alls well
@@av.punk.801 100% agree with you, depending on the color many times the aged/faded finish can be much more desirable.
Right now I am building a '61 RI Strat. The color is a Surf Green that started out Sonic Blue. As the top lacquer clear coat ages it will yellow making the sonic blue appear Surf Green. Fun stuff with the side bonus it mostly keeps me out of trouble!
That very well might be a classic 50’s bridge bc WOW is that thing crunchy
Also have a 13 in root beer. Just noticed I have one Schaller strap lock and one original. Better check my pups now. No push pulls so likely originals but now you have me thinking...darn you Trogley! Lol
Awesome. I have an 05 in root beer. My favourite guitar to record with. It pairs nicely with everything doing rhythms, but the supreme and the black falcon hard panned L & R is perfect for hard rock.
Sounds really nice…. We need to know wich pickups are…
I want it for me
Please , say me ,which lick you play at 22:49?
I love LP Supremes, thanks for the review! It’s gorgeous!
My 2004 Supreme also has the flat spot on the back.
I know it devalues that particular guitar.... and not knowing what the bottom pick up is ... I am shocked at how good that split sounded. Real nice. Could've been way worse I suppose. Ty for the video man.
When you opened the case, my jaws dropped to the floor.
That has great tone! Nice pups! Very clean
Nice sounding, beautiful guitar!
Maybe the one of the previous owners of this guitar had some crazy ring on the left hand that wore away some of the finish near the fretboard and the binding. Possibly cowboy chord player. I don't know what it is about what you played starting the sound demo portion of your review but I always expect you to go through the 3rd run and just rip into some fuzz or distorted tones. Can't hear it to much in the distorted playing but without the distortion it sounds like coil tapping rather than coil splitting. I don't mind the rich light or a paufaral fretboard. But a good ebony like I have on one guitar is awesome.
I absolutely love my 2006 Supreme.
Pretty sure that's a series parallel switch on the bridge pu.
That really is a beautiful guitar, I'm buying a Gibson in 2022 and I'd love to make it or one like it mine, just hoping it's not too terribly expensive but it does look expensive.
Thanks for a great video on a beautiful LP . I don't really know about the Supremes so I really appreciate the info!
I think it sounds really good. Looks nice also.
16:43 Was there a MOD-stamp on the back of the head stock?
I believe the stamp is the usual 'USA 2013 MODEL' rather than MOD?
Hey I jsut found out my Slash 4 limited edition just shipped. Supposed to get it this Friday. So just letting you know that they are still shipping so dont give up hope on yours.
Hermosa. Aunque no me gusta mucho con distorsión, me quedo con la Custom.
Be glad they changed pups, thing sounds great!
Looked like a resistor in the wiring, might be a tone bleed circuit.
Trogly, I actually have a supreme with a flamed neck...............and its blue.......... 1 of 25. It has an ebony fretboard with the mirror inlays that were in the SG GT's. Gibson made 25 in blue and I think 40 in red. They had left over parts in 09 and made some very limited releases that were sold at special sales at the factory. It was around the same time as the "frankensteins" which I also owned.
Woohoo! Endoscope trip, my favorite part of the show.
I know this comment is on a high end Gibson but I was just bought a Epiphone silverburst sg for $175 and it has a Custom shop decal on the back it made me wonder what Epiphone custom shop is. So my question is do you have any info on Epiphone custom shop guitars? Thank you love your content I’m a super strat player who is now just really getting into Gibson hopefully I’ll own my own Gibson one day 🤟🏼
This would be a weirdly specific review to want to watch if you need a 490R/498T sound sample.
I'd look at the changes as upgrades for a player because 1.) It sounded killer and 2.) with the splits/taps it's got far more versatility than the regular old tired but true LP tones. Just my 2 cents. Cheers P[>
Pickups sounded great!
do you mean the EVO gold colored fret wire?
Nice looking guitar for sure. Id not want one personally a little to gaudy for me
Nice (replace the gold hardware). Still (outside of preferences) really nice!!
Great visuals!
I just saw a supreme very similar to this one in a store. Same color, but less flame going on. Four thousand bucks more or less, depending on the yen-dollar exchange rate.
What a tone monster
❤️ this guit 🎸
Push/Pull sounds like a coil tap. CS Guitars has a video that explains the difference between that and coil-split. \m/
The original cases came with a matching white satin shroud
I got one when I was 16 and didn’t play it much because it was difficult to play up high because of the massive body but I pulled it out a couple years later and it’s an amazing sounding guitar, one of the best I’ve ever played
I would lower the pickups just a tad though
What a beautiful guitar. The mods wouldn’t bother me but I’m not a collector. I’d want to know about it in advance though.
would look nicer if they had used yellow pearl for the inlay to match the gold frets as well as binding. Stark white with gold hardware is annoying me.
That is a lot of pearl inlays. It's so shinny like a diamond necklace.
Quick search for PG-50 pickups… yeah it’s some brand called “Performance Guitars” 🤷♂️
Just saw one of these OG LP Supremes at my local Guitar Center. It was awesome (but the pickup switch wasn't working right). They were asking $4k for it which seemed reasonable but out of my price range. THanks for all of the awesome content Trogly!
What is a fair price for a mint condition 2013 just like this one?
Pretty sure the neck pickup may be part of a Peter Green signature set.
Great video, more LP’s I want
Those pickups sound like they have one got coil and one low output coil. The neck pickup probably has really fine wire and the bridge more regular. Staggered coils work great. Theres Dylan the Dylan Talks Tone guy who has a set... I'd bet those are them.
Hey Trogs, enjoyed the show. This is probably the 2nd or 3rd time I heard you oogle over "gold fret wire". It is likely EVO fret wire which has been around for a while now. It is an alloy that a lot of people (me included) appreciate for it's hardness / durability which is somewhere between nickel steel and stainless. It is easier to work with than stainless, therefore less expensive. Just thought you'd like to know, rock on!
PS - EVO frets are "gold" all the way through and this does not "wipe off"! Maybe they make them in a silver / nickel color now, but I'm not sure. I really like them on mandolins where the double course strings w high tension really chew through frets.
you're right...its not plated....sounds like youve idetnified the coreredt fretwire. I've forgottten what it was called.
@@EvilUncleGeddy it's called EVO as far as I know!
Sshhhiiitttt.if I had the money I would already have bought this ..ssoo perfect!!
What is the weight?
I had a Heritage Cherry for years. Could never get along with it, it was just way too muddy for my liking and I couldn't get a good lead tone out of it. They'd be great for a Rhythm guitar where you want to blend into the mix.
Yes. I've noticed that. Great for recording and light enough for stage.
I saw a fake Supreme in a store a few years ago
It was easy to spot for a number of reasons, including missing some of what the video mentions.
But the headstock was the giveaway with poorly done inlay
According to the inlay it was a Sapremo
The Supreme used to be the most faked Les Paul ever about 10 years ago.
@@julosx you mean the Sapremo
😉
Since it wasn’t as well known as the more common Les Pauls it may have been easier to pull off
im not really guitar, the sound sounds like cut off some high frequency, make it sound so thick to me, its good for heavy stuffs right..?
I own the Trans Amber shown at 3:15 in this video.
So much knowledge.
Winchester used to make; 1: 1000 rifles for those few rifles that were exceptional...
Sounds great,looks great 👌
Super interesting video as always. Yeah it’s very unfortunate someone’s mucked around with an instrument that was always great just as it was from the factory. Anyway still a very nice guitar even if it’s been tampered with.
It's always astonishing how we can go from hero to zero in the blink of an eye
what is your price?
Wow! That's a stunner.
Does fender use beauty woods maybe Ud like to... Gday Trogley
An Ernie Ball Cutless would make a good subject Austin?
It's gotta be coil tapping with those readings.
Damn number 11
