Thanks for raising the issue of lack of representation at ‘influencer’ events! It can be easy for all of us to become complacent but this is a good reminder for everyone to take a look at what is happening in their own work place too and call this kinda shit out!
I really appreciate your openness talking about having bad mental health days. Today has been a heavy one for me and it felt really good to hear that someone else is going through it, even if it's not in real-time. Solidarity and all that yanno? Hope you're doing better xxx
Loved seeing your going to the corner shop outfit I always thought you spend every waking minute being so polished and elegant and it was fun to see this side of you 😆
this was so wholesome! I always look forward to your posts, Lucy ~ your videos are like the best sort of cocktail of old-school & new-school RUclips & I’m always here for it ♥️
Thank you so much for being an ally and not just doing lip service. I appreciate you. Hope they take your suggestion and not just one token black influencer.
Lucy I feel you so much!!!! I’ve come to a point where I realize I’ve accumulated enough friends or acquaintances that some feel like I don’t spend enough time with them out of choice when really I just have limited social slots in my weeks. It’s a weird problem to have cause I feel lucky to have friends but also feel overwhelmed. You’re not alone!!!
Feel this so much myself, it's a problem that I think many I know finds hard to understand unfortunately 😔 all the extrovert people in my life doesn't see the problem of me needing a lot of alone time to gather my energy back, and then my introvert friends may not have as many other friends in their life, so they have energy for me, but I can't really give them the same time and attention back. It's tough.
Another good one thanks. 2 points re overstretching yourself: Courtney Carver says it's easier to say no, and then decide to say yes later and I think friendships should enrich your life in some way. If they aren't doing then, it's maybe time to re-evaluate which ones are worth your energy (which is indeed finite) and which aren't. Thanks, Kim-Marie x
feeling overstretched ! seems to be a theme with a lot of people in my life too & I relate so hard ;( my ears pricked up cause i thought you were going to conclude with how you deal with it hahah, guess we're all figuring out how to spend our time/energy in a way that works for us so we can maintain things but not burn out in the process xx
Maybe being slightly selective is key. Maybe it involves ending some relationships but really what it might mean is that you have people on rotation because it's actually impossible to be with everyone even biweekly. For myself, what I found is that sometimes I just schedule a phone call for an hour with one person, have a chill picnic with another have a week where I don't really see anyone intentionally etc., and sometimes I just text people as a genuine check in or write letters to those who are far away as a more personal, concrete touch. Sometimes small communication is all that is needed 80% of the time, you just need to account for when it's time to meet in person for people along the way. It's a balancing act for me.
I’ve worn makeup twice in the last year and I’m so conflicted on what to do with all the makeup I have left over from when I used to wear it. I just never fancy putting it on anymore ! I wish former me had been more sensible about only buying what I needed.
about the obsessive thoughts. I know I'm just one person out of a million, who experience what you describe in this video, but I have gotten som very helpful advice. My psychologist has taught me to ask myself and reflect on, what the motivation behind my self critical thoughts is. Is it an attempt on selvpreservation or something else? When I have an idea of this, then the next step is to reflect on how you could also do thay, but in a nice, caring way. Like, instead of "you drink too much, its stupid", maybe try thinking "You drank too much yesterday, and thats okay, mistakes happen. Maybe you had fun while doing it. Now you just note that you drank too much, and how it felt the day after, and why you'd like to drink less, and you remember that for the next time." And then its just about repetition in answering the self critical thoughts with caring, mild words to yourself.
As someone who works within the events industry, we have a huge industry-wide issue of lacking diversity, so chances are if the organisers aren’t thinking about inclusion, then it’s unfortunately not going to be a diverse event! Love this video and the conversations you’re willing to have!
Lucy I laughed so much with your mushroom-outfit description, you are lovely! - Could I ask where's the fabric you hang underneath the sofa in your living room? I'm loving it, thanks!
Hey Lucy! I'm glad you continue to draw attention to the issue of representation and BLM in the industry, it's so important that brands and other industry people in power are held to account (not just when it suits their image and reputation). I think you know that inequality in the influencer industry is the central question of my PhD, and I've recently written a chapter about 'branding intersectionality' for the upcoming Routledge Companion to Media Anthropology! 😊
Noting the general whiteness of events sooooo much again lately. Ummmm can we do a low stress group bracelet beading night cos that sounds lovely. Solidarity with the ways the cycle just totally messes with your head. & shh you're a great friend, I love you lots xx
I struggle with obsessive bad thoughts and loads of self criticism too! I recently started a Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) training and I've found that it really helps to get unstuck and give some air and light. (Also meditation and stuff like that really isn't for me, but somehow MSC works for me:))
Thanks for sharing so much Lucy! Personally, I am quite good at saying no and not having much on my plate to not be stressed and all, but this in turn leads to feeling like my life is boring and all my friends do fun stuff all the time. So both sides suck sometimes I guess... Can we gather some benefits to being sensitive people? lol
These videos are always so soothing to watch when I'm having a bad day. What was the Charlotte Tilbury lipstick? I can't find it anywhere and its gorgeous!
When you talked about feeling overstretched over too many people when you really want to just keep them all because their dear to you: GIRL, do I know how you feel! If anyone has a solution to this luxury problem of having 'too many people to love' but not feeling like you can take care of all those relationships like they deserve to (or just having plain dead not enough energy for all those precious humans you love), then please do share them. Sincerely desparate and overwhelmed friend/partner/family member 😑
I totally get that it's important to have ethnically diverse events but did you know that according to gov.uk ten years ago 86% of all people in England and Wales were white while London is 50-60% white, so maybe it's a small consolation that it's expected that sround 86% of those people showing up at the events are white even though you are used to 50/50 white and non-white in your city. But of course you can still say it's bad if significantly more than 86% of people at the events are white, while acknowledging that people who are invinted to such events have a relatively high chance of growing up fairly privileged so there are probably more white influencers than non-white influencers which would make trying to make an event as racially diverse as the world very artificial because that would mean that despite your country's demographic you have to get in a lot less than 50% white influencers (like when you assume 1-1.3 billion people of the 7.753 billion people on the planet are white) which could be good in terms of fighting against racism but still performative of whoever organises the event
"I'm gonna have a mozzarella based thing and just get through it" is so relatable
Hey, Lucy! Thank you for continuing to have the “representation” conversation with your audience. It matters!

2012-2019 was an era of beauty maximalism - forgive yourself for following the hype, we all did in some ways ❤️

Obsessive thoughts - I found CBT really helped, just reading up on how common my thought patterns are really helped.
What a lovely chilled vibe

Great vlog, Lucy. Do your friends have RUclips or anything as well btw?
No but they are on Instagram! They're called Millie Cotton and Hannah Louise F x
Pacifica smells a lot like cultural appropriation :( I'd love to know more about the event, especially the beading?
UGH! I can so relate to your obsessive self critical thoughts.
