Roger has always said that he doesn't like doing solos because he doesn't think enough people enjoy it. But now 40 years on there are some bits in there from the songs LIAR and from Brighton Rock that us core fans enjoy hearing again. Freddie and Roger cooperated on the Queen drum sound. They both enjoyed cymbals in the mix and fought Brian for their space. As anyone whos into music production knows, cymbals eat alot of space in a mix.
Roger is such an under-appreciated drummer. Never gets a mention in 'best' lists, and yet he is clearly a very, very talented player, never mind his massive vocal presence in Queen whilst drumming!
I would've gone with a solo from back in the day. That said, Roger is a fantastic drummer. He probably isn't regarded as one of the technical greats, but he had some great chops. He was the perfect package. Top notch drummer, fantastic high-range vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, solid song writer, great look, and he could rock a pair of tiger-skin trousers.
Roger has always said he was never into the technical side of drumming but when it comes to playing the drums, he knows exactly what he's doing. His timing is impeccable and never misses a beat
his left foot was actually opening and closing the hi-hat, that’s one of his techniques, to pair a hi-hat open/close with a snare or bass hit to fill out the sound.
Roger Taylor was not a great soloist but is a great drummer. Odeon ‘75 is my favourite Taylor period. Also the press roll on Killer Queen with the bell shows RT has lovely finesse.
Two great things about this video, aside from the percussion. First, the look of pure delight on your face. Second, the roadie coming out with progressively more and more drums. They just kept coming! Superb stuff. You've chosen some terrific drummers to analyse.
Must say now I be seen and heard this, Roger has a unique sound both with solos and with the Queen songs which he so comfortably harnessed. Even two minutes into this solo I compared him with the likes of Ian Paice, Ginger Baker and John Bonham...to me they ,re all different with their techniques...all brilliant, but there’s only one drummer for Queen...looking forward to hearing more from R M T!
Oh, unlike many. Thanks for breaking down tapping chest/feet. You've taught me so much. I'm 52, been waiting for someone like you break down beats as it goes. Thank you Professor.
I didnt know he was so talented. In fact before this channel, I didnt know there were so many drum solos. Id only heard the ringo star one from abbey road.
That's my favourite roger solo....when brian comes in with his quitar the power those two have is amazing...you can see how they would have had that ahah moment the first time they played together
I'm not a big fan of drum solos. However, I'd like to see you break down a regular performance. I also realize that video footage is hard to come by because drummers are not lead singers or guitarists. So I may be asking a lot here. It would be great to see a regular performance of Danny Seraphine and Jeff Porcaro to name couple. They're 2 of the best in the business. So it would be great to get your breakdown. Thank you.
He stopped doing solos around 1981/82.....he once said that 'solos are just showing off, once you start seeing people going off for a hotdog, you never want to do it again, because you knew you were boring people'
" I can remember who the drum was but he was playing on the string bass. " I think the answer is Ray Bauduc and Bob Haggert playing "Big Noise from Winnetka." Although quite a number of drummers have recorded a version of this tune. ruclips.net/video/KfFBdViZHzk/видео.html
Really enjoy watching your reactions but especially the analysis. It’s cool to see you breakdown the techniques used. Not sure if you take suggestions, but I’d love to see your analysis of Thomas Pridgen playing along to the track State of Grace on Drumeo. It’s not a solo but he seems to be doing a lot but it’s hard for me to make sense of just watching myself. Either way, keep up the videos.
If you've not done it already, check out this video 'Funniest Drum Solo of all Time'. It's not that funny, but as a drummer, you'll appreciate it. The drummer plays snare, and a friend brings out a piece of kit every few minutes until there's a full kit. I've seen it a few times, and the drummer has some awesome skills. Well worth a watch. And, from what I've just seen, it looks like Roger's seen it too, and stole the idea? lol And thanks for all your reaction vids!
Garey - I love your channel, but I wish you'd rather enlarge the picture of the drummers,, and make your picture smaller. PS: my name is Gary 'Stix' Ehlers ... of Namibia
This is one of the greatest drummers to come out of New Orleans [Jonathan Sugarfoot Moffett] this is a very groove oriented drum solo from Jonathan youtube.comwatch?v=quX2uBDjDQ0 he does this ninja cymbal grab thing that is mind blowing
Roger Taylor is still very active with drums even though he’s older. It really amazes me, so I’m in love with Roger and his drummer skills.
Love Rogers voice as well as his drumming style💥💕😍♥️👑
I could watch Roger at the Queen Live in Montreal ‘81 concert on endless repeat.

And btw Roger originally hated anotherone bites the dust, but now its in his solo.
Another One Bites the Dust is probably very boring to most drummers.
Roger paying a little tribute to John with Under Pressure and Another One Bites the Dust

VERY UNDERATED DRUMMER!!
GREAT MUSICIAN 👍
Underrated? Not really...
I mess about playing drums in high school (disastrous attempt really) but from that point Roger Taylor became and still is my musical hero.

Very good Roger. Freddie would be proud and happy for you.
So athletic and so musical at the same time. I can't get over how talented he really is.
You should definitely see I'm in Love with my Car live in Montreal

Thanks!
I always listen for Rodger in Queen's music. I enjoy him on the drums. His voice is awesome also but to sing and play at the same time is very hard.

Ohh god that was the best of all😭😭❤❤

Thumbs up for you Garey 👍🏻
I think this was the first big concert they did with AL to a zillion people in the crowd in Kiev.
What a pleasure. Oh my goodness.
I didnt know he was so talented. In fact before this channel, I didnt know there were so many drum solos. Id only heard the ringo star one from abbey road.
Rog is cool 😎
roger is so so so underrated it makes me really sad
He really isn't underrated at all.
One of Mike Portnoys Idols was Roger Taylor , says enough !
Check out 'Let there be drums' from Queen + Paul Rodgers. It's not bad at all. C
Plus his drums on that solo sound like canon's
That's my favourite roger solo....when brian comes in with his quitar the power those two have is amazing...you can see how they would have had that ahah moment the first time they played together

Check out carl palmer drum solo 2 sticks one cymbal one hand, stick hitting the other stick with one hand genius
Gene Krupa plays bass on Big Noise From Winnetka....
You should react to some of his earlier solos. In my opinion earlier Queen is better than mid or Late Queen.
Gene Krupa did a great solo on bass strings.
I saw Queen live in Milan, Italy in 1984 but he did not play any solo.
He stopped doing solos around 1981/82.....he once said that 'solos are just showing off, once you start seeing people going off for a hotdog, you never want to do it again, because you knew you were boring people'

Correction : That should have read " can't" not can
Brighton Rock- Drums only
What was that string instrument that Roger was playing in that first clip?

Nice bit of showmanship by Taylor.

4:58 was that immigrant song?
Please do a react of Phil Seaman. Ginger Bakers idol and who he once thought was “god” on the drums.
Send me a link. Thanks!

Why not compare Roger Taylor vs. Brian Bennett. Both are British.
Nice solo. Not the likes of Baker, Peart, Etc, but a good effort. Most of this is simply double stroke rolls.
Fair enough!
Creative execution but not very technical. Hey, it's rock.
Very simple drumming
No kidding. He's not even close to a lot of others out there, one of them being a 10 year old Japanese girl. By the way I'm a huge Queen fan.
@@johnmcgahern3946 but maybe the skilled japanese girl can' t keep a solid beat as Roger Always did in Queen live performaces
Boring solo
Roger don't like solos too, because "they are boring"
Boring !
