Nice to hear a calming video on stocking up versus the Alaskan Prepper, in his bunker and his Hugh amount of food prepared for the end of the world. So it’s nice to see a prepper that is conscious of what she is storing and watch her family will eat in a calm easy manner
Wow! I don’t watch Alaskan prepper, but I do appreciate the compliment. Being prepared should not make you feel like the world is ending. You should feel secured about the future no matter what it brings. We never know. Tomorrow could be beautiful. I am reminded today if all we look for is evil it’s all we will find. If we ok we look for is the end of the world it’s all we will ever see.
Good information! People need to realize there is no harm or disgrace in canned food from the store. Yes home canned is amazing! But not everyone has the room or the ability to grow a garden. AND even if you grow a garden, it can easily fail due to drought, flood, hail or wind and multiple other factors! The important thing is to STORE WHAT YOU EAT AND EAT WHAT YOU STORE! Don't get caught up in thinking it has to be organic. If the 2020 era taught us anything..we should know to get stocked up and stay stocked up. Buy a little extra every trip to the store. Put the date on the items where you can see it and rotate through them. A can of roast beef over rice can make a meal. A jar of spaghetti sauce and some pasta makes a meal. When times get hard, you will be glad you have it. As Jessica said, it could be a job loss or a sickness. It does not have to be the world shut down, but when these things come inside our 4 walls, it rocks our own world. As scripture says and Josie from Cedarcreekhomestead reminds us LOOK WELL TO THE WAYS OF YOUR HOUSEHOLD! 😊
Omg!!! Yes!!!! Yes yes!!! 1000% 2020 made us buy Vienna sausage for meat when our stores were sold out and they even shut down ranches from butchering animals! So I’m 1000% with you! Yes yes all the fun organic home canned grown from my garden is Amazing! But when I couldn’t even get hotdogs for my kids!!!!!! I’m never going to be in the shame camp.
@modernhomesteadalaska there are things that we buy that I do not care to eat but when times are tough we can do alot and eat things we would not normally eat. The thing to do is buy one and try it NOW. If you like it well enough to think you could eat it, buy more. Do not wait til there is little on the shelf to decide to try vienna sausages or spam or any of those "questionable" goods. Survival mode may not be about the tastiest. 😆
I UNDERSTAND YOUR PASSION ABOUT BEING PREPARED. WE GREW-UP A LOW INCOME FAIMLY AND ONE YEAR MY FATHER AND BOTH BROTHERS WERE OUR OF WORK FOR --ONE YEAR--. THEY WOULD GET A FEW DAYS WORK EVERY NOW AN THEN--WE WOULD NOT HAVE MADE IT, IF THE GROCERY STORE WHERE WE SHOPPED HAD NOT BEEN A FAMILY OWNED. THEY LET US BUY FOOD ON CREDIT FOR THAT YEAR. THEN IN ONE WEEK ALL THREE GOT PERMANENT JOBS. ONE OF THE FIRST THING MY DADDY DID WAS GO TO THE BANK AND BORROW MONEY TO PAY THE FOOD BILL OFF. ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS MOTHER GOT WAS A -ROLL OF PAPER TOWEL. SHE WOULD NOT BUY ONE ON CREDIT. THESE TYPE OF THINGS HAVE STAYED WITH ME ALL MY 80 YEARS OF LIFE. I WILL BUY EXTRA OWN SALE AND PUT BACK. I ALSO BUY PAPER GOODS TO PUT BACK. I AM THANKFULTHAT I DID LAST YEAR, BECAUSE NOW I AM HAVING TO USE THEM. I ONLY GET$23.00 A MONTH ON FOOD STAMPS. BLESSINGS UPON YOU, SWEETHEART. THANKS FOR YOUR INFORMATION.
Yes we never know what’s going to happen. It doesn’t need to be end times for a family or person to start to struggle. It can be any number of reasons. Thank you for sharing
I agree! I do not live in a harsh Winter area. I am actually in the Deep South. Very seldom do we have hard Winters but I love being a homebody during the Fall/Winter so that means being prepared. I have been canning like crazy for weeks and weeks. Beef tips, chicken, venison tips, venison Sloppy Joe, venison chili, chicken stew, chicken soup, chicken stock, beef stock, potatoes, jams, tomatoes, pickles, vegetable soup, ground venison vegetable soup, etc................. I still have get my pinto beans canned and get the cherries and blueberries out of the freezer to make jam. Then it's time for apple butter!`Afterwards I will take a short break from canning and focus on topping off all of our home supplies. It is a lot of work but so much security in these very difficult times. I already see shortages in our stores that most are oblivious to. I have a very, very bad feeling about the future in America and the world. I am so happy to see/hear that you are supporting both home canning and store bought canned goods. I am not impressed by those that make people feel "less than" or "not really homesteaders", if they buy anything from the grocery store, or don't buy everything organic. It is unreasonable and impossible. We are trying to build a year's supply of food as well. It is hard and not sure I will ever feel like we really have that much. I am pretty close so I feel comfortable. I use, replace, and rotate constantly. I am not just buying and keeping stashed away for "one day". I did put a lot of flour, rice, oats, and wheat berries in mylar bags and food grade buckets that may be saved for a year or so then I will replace them. We must keep adding and staying prepared.
@@modernhomesteadalaska Well, I admire your honestly, diversity, and how much it helps others to get started or keep prepping. Some people can't invest in pressure canners, jars, etc. so they need to know that it is perfectly fine to get all they need from a grocery store. I am 62 years old, been prepping for a long time and I love to can my own food but trust me, I have hundreds of store bought cans of food as well. That won't ever change. LOL
It's amazing how many people have not learned from 2020. It's like they have short term memory loss. They act like the food will always be there again . Plus with inflation, the more you are stocked now the more money you will save later. On average, you can save about 6%, with long term storage. It may not sound like a lot but it adds up. With my food stock now, I only buy what's are sale. The sales are where I stock. If green beans are on sale thus week, instead of maybe 1 or 2 cans, buy 5 and don't buy something else that isn't on sale. The next week when hamburger is on sale buy one or two extra packs, but now you don't buy green beans since you already bought extra. Learn to stock whatever is on sale that you will eat. My husband's Master Sargent taught me that when we were first married in 1977. I have been doing it ever sense and it truly works and builds your pantry.
Hi Jessica, because of your advice I have a stocked kitchen. In UK we don't have storage space in our homes, but I have plans to create a dry dark area. Thank you ❤️
Love it. When we found this home it was only sticks. No pantry or laundry room at all! Seriously no laundry? But Aaron moved that whole wall to create my panty and even the co tractors thought it was a crazy use of space. Never care what anyone thinks you crazy the space you want! I say go for it.
That's really awesome! Good luck on your creating that space! I can tell you that even if you lived in the states, where we usually have a little extra space, it FEELS like we never have enough! I'm forever trying to create an extra dark, cold, and dry spot to store more jars! 😂 My house looks like I need an intervention for hoarding! 😅
Hi Jessica and sweet family! I love having beans in my pantry. I just got kidney beans to can this week. My favorite is pinto beans because I love beans and cornbread, just an ole country gal. I really love the system and organization you do with your pantry and overflow. Oh my goodness, that scared me too. I do want to can some chow chow if I can make it to the farmers market. I remember the days of canning with my grandmother, she taught me 40+ years ago. Hope you and your precious family have a blessed day!
Yeah, just big enough to can up the stock from a turkey carcass. Or a Boston pork butt, for pork roast, yummmm. Or lamb roast. Or..... If only it was 1/2" taller, 😕.
I eat chicken and stars ⭐️ soup when I don’t feel good. We love Progresso basil 🌿 tomato 🍅 soup . Your pantry is so organized and beautiful ! Thank you for sharing 🌻🐓🌻🫙🌻
I am a family of one, but stock an extended pantry. And I am so grateful I have. This summer I had expensive, to me, car repairs, and it drained my emergency fund, as well as several sinking funds I had set up. Due to the fact that I have my extended pantry, I have not had to go to the grocery store. Which is grateful because the budget does not allow for grocery stores right now.
Dear Jessica. I haven’t commented for a while, but I wanted to say hello and I’m still praying for you. I had a friend over today to help me clean out a pantry space and organize some stuff that has gotten out of control. She went home and I made some tea and sat down to check in with some of my favorite RUclipsrs. And here you are in your pantry. Haha. Great minds think alike. I hope you are feeling well. You look like you are. Much love and many prayers. Jennifer in Missouri.
Such wonderful common sense advice. I love how real you are and I need to take your advice and conquer my paranoia about having enough food and just buy what we normally eat. My SIL just got laid off and they are eating out of their food storage and doing well. Real life happens and it’s better to be prepared and have peace of mind.
Hi sweet one! You are so organized and efficient...I try, but I don't do as well as you do! At my age I think I have other priorities...lol! I love pinto beans as much as you do. I make pinto beans and sausage at least one every other week, and serve it with rice. It is always right to be prepared! Big hugs and many blessings!
You gone above with your long term and working pantry, excellent job! Keeping it organised really helps you know exactly how much you have and where you need to invest. Hard times ahead and you are most certainly ready for it
Afternoon from a hot sunny Weston-super-mare, U.K. We are having summer!!! Thank you for sharing my friend, your stock looks alot but won't last long with feeding family.. boys/men have hollow legs! I would love a pantry like yours, unfortunately our homes are not built with the room!. Crazy chicken will taste nice later.. 😂🤣 ps Jessica, have you tried sweetcorn fritters? Use the same recipe as pancake mix, omit sugar but add chopped red onion, chilli and salt and pepper, and anything else you fancy!
Thanks for the advice and video. I think it’s good you remind people to store only what your family will eat. I’m starting to get my food stocked up before winter. I just want to say if you’re on food stamps or whatever they call them now, you can still stock up on food just get a can or two extra. I’ve had to do it when my son was little and I was a single parent. One more thing, congratulations Wyatt for being cleared by the doctor, keep up the good work
Such a great point! Great! Anyone can do it. Even if you have to change a few things like eat a few more beans and less of a more expensive item to move funds around to stock up
I've wanted to can for a long time but I've been so intimidated by it. But I'm going to start this winter. It's funny but not funny... But I literally didn't know I could make at home the things sold in the store... Tv dinners, canned soup, canned meat.... It blew my mind when I was like well if they make it at the store I have to be able to make it at home... I guess I thought they needed some special stuff for it to be good?😬🤣😂🤦
That Carey is a great starter canner, especially if you don't have a pressure cooker already. It would be perfect if it were 1/2" taller inside, to take regular mouth quarts. I concentrate on meats, myself. Ground beef, sausage, are great for Mexican, Italian, breakfast, any meal you would normally make with it. Roasts, I chunk and dry season, saute EVERY SIDE FOR FLAVOR, add 1" broth, stuff jar, process. Beef, pork, lamb is on my shelf. The broth flavors potato flakes, rice, noodles, gravy. Like ramen? Raw-packed chicken, 'ugly chicken', started with 1" broth, is FAB in ramen [friends usage, he gets the broth from my opened jars]. And very useful in recipes. ●●●●● Just think of 1 ingredient jar as leftovers, and use as such. I always plan for a seal failure as dinner tomorrow. 😊
Good morning Jessica👋. I store dried beans but never thought of canning them. I think I’ll give it a try. I can’t tell you how much you have help me with different methods of canning. Thank you so much for sharing. I really enjoy your channel. Keep those videos coming. Take care my friend💕
I have a ton of dried beans and throw a round in the pressure canner with reusable lids. Super low cost to keep the convenience of quick beans for dried bean price.
So once again I am binge watching you...while I can like a crazy woman!! We have been in a drought for the last 3 years here and this year has been a severe one. However surprisingly our garden has been very bountiful. God is good!! We I am hoping have a years supply of food finally in stocks and enough to share with our children and grandchildren. I love your videos, you make them make sense for any situation a person may be in. Thank you for all you and your family share with us!
I used to always keep a little spares on hand but after 2020 with not being able to get soo much stuff for weeks I have a lot more stockpiled! We were also flooded in last year so I am much more prepared now. I also stocked up on canned goods while they were on a price lock. I’m in Australia.
Wise words you share regarding preparedness. Here is the lower states you can feel the tell tale angst of redoing 2020 again. Not to mention the weather: floods, fires and the ungodly heat! Our Miss Kitty Boots also urges “fur baby” families to stock up on extra kibble! You are such an asset for beginners and offer a great brush up for us seasoned gals who have cooked many a meal! Until our next visit… don’t forget to put your chicken out tonight!! 🤭 ❤ Momma G
Oh, Jessica, I wish I was as organized as you are!! You are correct, we need to do it now while there is time. I was just talking with a friend who was getting after me to get better organized! Lol! I have a list started as to what needs to be done right away. That chicken is so funny. She likes to see what everyone is up to. God bless you all!
I’m so glad you mentioned the store bought canned goods. Many people believe that homesteading as a whole means only canning, gardening, livestock, etc. I live in Detroit so having livestock isn’t an option but I do have a small garden. I frequent our farmers market. I’ve taught myself through RUclips University 😂how to can foods. The 2020-21 era 😊has taught me to have action plans in place and to stock up on store bought items and cook more from scratch what my family eats. Thank you for this video, thank you for sharing your ups, downs and all arounds. Because of you and many like you, I have created a homestead urban style to protect, shelter and feed my family without too much stress. #StayBlessed
I totally agree. Yes I dream of the day it’s all me. But I can’t be unprepared because I can’t possible grow everything we eat. We need to be yelling from the roof tops, your best is the best! If that’s self canned or store purchased! You best is simply the best way todo it.
You are so organized & explain your system very well. It would be easy for everyone to follow your example!!! I hope you are Blessed with a manageable winter! 💜
I have used your directions on canning beans (shown on a previous video) for several batches now and it works great. So thankful to have them on my pantry shelves.
Love your pantry, this is my to do for this week - inventory, list making & menu making then the fun part shopping. ❤❤❤❤ Even buying just a few extras when going shopping helps to build that stockpile.
I'd suggest building a greenhouse or a high tunnel and spend a good amount on seed and grow more of your own food. and raise rabbits they are cheap to raise and they can be bred ever 40 days, they'll have 6 to 12 kits that adds up to a lot of meat in a years time. Be blessed love watching your videos.
Did you see our newest video? I love this! It’s exactly what we are already doing! We have 2 greenhouses going up and 4 meat rabbits added to the homestead last week.
You are really organized and stocked up. I understand the reasons behind what you do very thoroughly. Even when we lived in NY and had a major blizzard coming, we just needed enough stuff for a few days where we lived. Here in Florida if a major hurricane is coming, we will prepare. Larry watches weather closely during hurricane season when these depressions start. No power? we have a propane stove and canned goods. Get a cooler of ice. But if something serious is heading our way? We have friends away from the coast to go stay with. Thanks for sharing and giving us an understanding why Alaskans stock up the way they do😊
I probably shouldn’t be watching your videos while doing a 5 day water fast 😂 Your pantry/canning/cooking always inspires me and makes me hungry. 😉 Would love to hear if you have plans to stock up anything extra for the fast approaching winter.
Loved this video and totally get why you stock your pantry the way you do. I have had a well stocked pantry for years , since this was how my mum did it, as she grew up during WWII and after rationing finished she always made sure she stocked plenty of everything., so that's how I roll too. During the UK lockdown I kept my grown up kids supplied with TP, baking products, pasta and a number of other items that were impossible to get hold of ( or were strictly rationed) in our stores. Sadly my kids haven't learned from this so if we have further issues with food supply in this country I'd be doing the same again! I find it hard to work out where my shortages are, and what I need to purchase more of, but seeing your set up makes it so much easier to see exactly what you have and to be able to spot the gaps ! I have an inner lobby with a very large linen cupboard that I am going to set up as a working pantry. Thanks for the inspiration. New Sub!
I was hesitant to can pumpkin to but once pressure canned it really becomes puree when you empty the water. Its all i use now and super easy to keep on the shelf instead of valuable freezer space. If you have time its a great thing to try.
You are a rockstar to me! Lol😂😂😂 You have a full time job PLUS youre this organized? You're doing things exactly the way I had planned. However, I am NOT organized. 😅 It really helps me that you took the time to show us all your steps and explain your thought process. I just ONLY have to regroup andn basically start over. Ugh. Anyway, GREAT job! Stay safe! ❤
Oh my home is my full time plus job now. Before we moved in 2021 I did work full time. However we didn’t have the life we have. The homestead is more demanding. I don’t know how some do it
Jessica, I always enjoy seeing your pantries and see how I can make mine better. I do live alone but have a large family who live close and cook with on weekends. My problems is I thinkI am overstocked, yes with cans I won't ever use. Spinach, spam and hash and carrots to name a few. I got caught up in buying what was on sale just in case. Donating these is a great idea. I keep lots of soups too for the grandkids and for one of my sons who loves progresso soups. They laugh when they look at my office turned pantry, but I laugh when they "borrow" a can of this or a bottle of that. I bought a Nesco canner but haven't used it yet. My winter project is to can meat. Have a great week.
Fantastic ❤❤❤❤. I’m glad you started attaching to Amazon Makes my life easier. Sometimes I have to go searching on Amazon for some things u use. Thanks for your extra work. It’s appreciated ❤❤❤
I have a late medieval (about 1620) cellar under my house. One of those with brick vaults. The temperature here hardly fluctuates between winter and summer. My house was later rebuilt on this basement and is therefore much newer (1869). In this I have my storage of food but also coal and firewood. My food supply is a bit larger and is for 2 people. I have purchased cans and jars, but also self-canned jars and self-dried food. To organize this, I have mounted an Android box with a touchscreen monitor and a battery in one box. The USB ports are still accessible together with a charging plug. I can connect a laser scanner to this and have downloaded a warehouse app on this box. On my computer I can create barcodes where I can group the product, the type of product and the ten best before date (for purchased cans and jars) or the packaging date. This date starts with the year and then month and day. I do this so that in the app I get the oldest date at the top and the newest at the bottom. I print the labels with the computer and stick them on the jars and scan them in the app. That way I always know exactly what I have in stock. If I use a jar, can or bag I scan it, see if it really is the oldest and write it out of the file with one click.
Thank you. The space was supposed to be finished house. We figured we don’t need that amount of sq ft so storage it became. I’m hoppy now that I accepted the idea.
I heard you say, you can reuse the rings. Does that mean you can't reuse the lids and if not, why? Do they make reusable lids? I don't really can because, I live alone and I don't think it is feasible.
So that at disk lid can be used after you open it but not to can. It has that one time rubber use. But you just get packet of them super cheap. There is a reuse company however the jars abs such are super expensive. You might be better of just store a few cans. Lots of my single friends do that. And I think it’s fantastic no matter how you do it.
Roast (beef, pork, lamb), ugly chicken, ground beef, in a pint that is no longer taking up freezer space--and ALREADY COOKED! Meal in a jar--your fave chili, stew, etc., not pkgd in your freezer. The family pack of chicken breast is cheaper than the 1#. [ Labor, packaging are costly.] Foods that are dear even in your grocery are worse online. I started because we eat a LOT of ground beef. Italian, Mexican, h. helper, etc. Pot roast, ❤ it, lamb roast, too. Boston butt pork roast can also be pulled pork, add bbq sauce when open the jar. 😊 The Carey is a very good starter, BUT, the quarts (4) are wide-mouth only. Binge watch YT for ideas.
The black bars that keep my jars from falling in a shake. I’m still fighting watching videos on the Amazon. They say it’s simple it’s not! Not setting it up on our end anyway.
I am just curious...why do you pressure can pint of pito beans for 90 minutes? I live in Texas...and I can them for 75 minutes. I am wondering if your location changes that? Love your videos.
@@modernhomesteadalaska Well as long as you are making refried beans it doesnt really matter...they will be easier to mush. Thanks for the response. I was not criticising, was just curious if your location mattered. Enjoy your videos.
@@modernhomesteadalaska that makes sense, thanks (I am binge watching through your videos so hope you don't mind the comments and questions from old videos)
Yeah I use it quickly I have lots of grains to grind in stock but I use that apf to seed my sour dough and the kids use it. Kodie bakes cookies with it. I’ll use it up before winter.
Ooo we r not fancy. We pick 12 good cans types- veg, beans tomatoes, meats. And throw each in its flats into totes. So tomatoes we keep 5 kinds- infused with herbs- etc or diced. We fill each tote we don't organize or build racks. We just fill the totes. Throw them in storage around our house. We keep a crock pot soup- chili- taco-stew area with about 6 of each, all the spices, a dessert like a cake, or individual snacks in a bin like walking taco chips, toppings, shelf stable sauces & salad area with toppings etc., and canned soups for fast pulls- or broths. All this in one place we pull and rotate i include mugs bowls, condiments & utensils. I never worry about anything anymore - no putting up veg- no what'd for dinner whoever gets there first to put it in or mix it up. Then we have to eat it. We also keep the power pressure cooker for bigger meats like roasts, chops, chicken, or Turkey. Or bags with them marinating in the fridge or freezer. So much easier. My husband cooks so this is how minnesota kids did it from 1940 til whenever and my family in Kansas did it this way too. If there's outdoor in the snow, or sunny days in the pool. They can feed themselves. I display above these 2 huge bakers racks the veg cans but they are for using, we filter in and out things we love. We just pull and fill, then refill the storage totes. We keep 50-200 cans each type we need. And 5-24 of things miscellaneous like pasta sauce, mushrooms, pickles, olives, krauts, beets, onions etc. All other sauces are on that shelf like oils or fridge weve even had a tiny fridge near this many a year. Things like Vinegar, wines, small thing of flour- starches - powders. Its too much time to fret the big things. Store it away & pull at stations. I'm switching my coffee iced tea station to cocoa & coffee ice tea & hot tea station soon. Often in summer we will switch the crock pot or add a new bakers rack just to push salads- sandwich, individual desserts, toppers, etc. Works for a busy family who all work odd times. It's how ranches and farms run. Especially when you are on a tractor or running vacation semi. That's my truck ill be in it you all find food by getting it on the bakers rack. It's easy to scoop up & bring out to a crew of 6. Lol 😅
I have that canner and I'm having an issue with it; Everytime I use it I always have 1 jar doesn't seal sooo frustrated with this I may sell it !!! Any way you can show me how you load yours???
Wow, you just made my life easier! I have the same canner and pre soaking the beans in the jars definitely seems faster and easier. Question, after soaking the beans I've read that you're supposed to also simmer for 30 minutes on the stove. How is the texture of your beans being that you don't do that step? I'd love to skip that step if I could... Other question, I see you processed 90 minutes, I'm a little confused as I thought pints were 75 minutes and quarts were 90. I'm still new to pressure canning so I could be wrong. Anyway, I enjoyed the video! PS: Have you tried the Fiesta pinto bean seasoning? I bought it off of Amazon and really like the taste it adds to the beans...
Totally agree! I just can’t be responsible for someone not knowing what to look for and getting into trouble because I said it was ok to eat expired caned goods. (We take those risk at our house)
I like getting stuff from Amazon. However, bare in mind that alot of the times it are cheaper to bought in stores. Though Amazon does accept food stamps for those on it and they even have the 72 hour emergency food bin on Amazon that you can get on food stamps. It was a huge help when I use to be on food stamps!
I had no idea. Here I’m Alaska we don’t have like the cool kitchen stores. So Amazon on things like the Rollie thing is my only option. But I had not even thought to buy food through Amazon.
Well I’m not 100% sure what your idea of an average house is. But I gave up a big kitchen and a living room to have my pantry. It was a priority. But I got to build the house so I made sure it was. My sons room is so small he can’t put a dresser in it. It’s a give and take on what you want to give space to. I know folks who turn extra rooms into food preps and sq ft wise it’s bigger then what I have
Nice to hear a calming video on stocking up versus the Alaskan Prepper, in his bunker and his Hugh amount of food prepared for the end of the world. So it’s nice to see a prepper that is conscious of what she is storing and watch her family will eat in a calm easy manner

Hopefully folks have learned from all of the recent events and weather disasters that they may be stuck in their house for a bit.
It’s sad to see those who didn’t but I love the number we see doing it now.

I love everything you said. Seriously every word thank you fir sharing
LOL
IF I was your neighbour, and needed food, would you give me some of these delicious foods?
Such great points thank you fir sharing
Hi Jessica, because of your advice I have a stocked kitchen. In UK we don't have storage space in our homes, but I have plans to create a dry dark area. Thank you ❤️
Even storing food in containers under the bed works great. I buy rubber made containers that are long and maybe only 5-6 inches tall.
My husband and son eat canned fruit as a snack. We always have mandarin oranges and peaches in the pantry.
Love it!
♥️ your channel! Thx for ALL the info!
Thank you that’s so kind
Thanks heaps, love how genuine you are ❤
Thank you that’s so kind
thank you for sharing your heart. its blessing my heart.
So kind of you. Thank you that made me so happy to hear
I wish I had grown up canning more. By the age I paid attention my mom had moved from our home with the big gardens and stuff.
Good morning! Thankyou for your video and your cheery self!
Wow thank you so much
Wow! your pantries are awesome! I appreciate the information and it will help me figure out how to get my pantry organized.
Nice so good to hear that
I just bought the same electric canner and love it for small batch canning!! It’s a game changer!!
For sure! Like I don’t want to completely fill my big canned with beans unless I’m done with the garden and have left over jars.
Yeah, just big enough to can up the stock from a turkey carcass. Or a Boston pork butt, for pork roast, yummmm. Or lamb roast. Or.....
If only it was 1/2" taller, 😕.
Love a well stocked pantry! Yours looks great!
Thank you so much
What a lovely pantry. You are such an inspiration! I so enjoy your videos. Blessings to you & your family.
Blessings my friend!
I eat chicken and stars ⭐️ soup when I don’t feel good. We love Progresso basil 🌿 tomato 🍅 soup . Your pantry is so organized and beautiful ! Thank you for sharing 🌻🐓🌻🫙🌻
Oh love it. Thank you sooo very much.
You are seriously amazing! I’m see I proud of you
Your pantry is awesome.thank you for sharing it.
That’s so kind thank you
I absolutely love home canning!!!!
Love it too thank you
Dear Jessica.
I’m so happy you are getting to it! Thank you my friend for being here
Thanks for this very timely video and message❤
Wow thank you that’s kind
I hate canned vegetables too! I love your chicken!
Merry too! Lol thank you
Always love your pantry tours of encouragement to everyone to plan for future.
We have the same issue with getting supplies where I live in Wyoming. There are three roads in and last winter they were closed for weeks at a time.
Yes you get shut down with the wind the exact same as us!
Thanks! Keep stocking!
Thank you so much!
Such wonderful common sense advice. I love how real you are and I need to take your advice and conquer my paranoia about having enough food and just buy what we normally eat. My SIL just got laid off and they are eating out of their food storage and doing well. Real life happens and it’s better to be prepared and have peace of mind.
It’s truly happens even if it’s not a shut down life it’s self has made us eat our stocks more then one time.
That chicken was so cute. Just helping out. Lol
She is so funny!
Hello Friend !
Hello friend!
Us too we eat them people don’t realize beans or dry beans are not just soup.
You gone above with your long term and working pantry, excellent job! Keeping it organised really helps you know exactly how much you have and where you need to invest. Hard times ahead and you are most certainly ready for it
Thank you so much my friend
lol i only have pomkin for the dogs lol oh I lied I do use n make a pie 1or 2x a year I just spices to 100%pure pumpkin
Love it’
Good job
Thank you
Afternoon from a hot sunny Weston-super-mare, U.K.
Yeah I would if loved just a little heat! Ed got none this summer. The fritters sound amazing!
They are and you can use tinned fresh or frozen sweetcorn.@@modernhomesteadalaska
Good morning Jessica!! Happy Tuesday, and happy canning.
Happy Tuesday and happy canning to you
Love it Jessica. God bless you.
God bless my friend
Great video, Thank you for sharing your thoughts and idea`s ♥
Thank you friend! Appreciate it
It’s prudent to be well stocked especially these crazy times we’re in. I always cooked and froze my pumpkin too. ❤️
Love it thank you too!
Even if you have to change a few things like eat a few more beans and less of a more expensive item to move funds around to stock up
Great information! Thanks for the video.👍🏻
Thank you so much
I've wanted to can for a long time but I've been so intimidated by it. But I'm going to start this winter. It's funny but not funny... But I literally didn't know I could make at home the things sold in the store... Tv dinners, canned soup, canned meat.... It blew my mind when I was like well if they make it at the store I have to be able to make it at home... I guess I thought they needed some special stuff for it to be good?😬🤣😂🤦
I honestly connect with this! I truly felt the same way!
●●●●●
Just think of 1 ingredient jar as leftovers, and use as such.
I always plan for a seal failure as dinner tomorrow. 😊
Canning ground meat is my favorite to can. It was the first thing I canned.
Good morning Jessica👋. I store dried beans but never thought of canning them. I think I’ll give it a try. I can’t tell you how much you have help me with different methods of canning. Thank you so much for sharing. I really enjoy your channel. Keep those videos coming. Take care my friend💕
I love beans all the ways. I do keep some dry also because nothing like a fresh pot. But canned is easy.
I have a ton of dried beans and throw a round in the pressure canner with reusable lids. Super low cost to keep the convenience of quick beans for dried bean price.
Thanks for sharing. Great video.
Wonder thank you so much
Great teaching video.
Thank you that’s kind!
Thank you for sharing
Wonderful
So once again I am binge watching you...while I can like a crazy woman!! We have been in a drought for the last 3 years here and this year has been a severe one. However surprisingly our garden has been very bountiful. God is good!! We I am hoping have a years supply of food finally in stocks and enough to share with our children and grandchildren. I love your videos, you make them make sense for any situation a person may be in. Thank you for all you and your family share with us!
Thank you so much I’m so happy to hear that you had a great year in the garden. It’s such a blessing to have that.
I used to always keep a little spares on hand but after 2020 with not being able to get soo much stuff for weeks I have a lot more stockpiled! We were also flooded in last year so I am much more prepared now. I also stocked up on canned goods while they were on a price lock. I’m in Australia.
That’s amazing. I’m honestly so happy to hear this.
❤ Momma G
You are so right! I make all sorts of plans on how to fern my creatures. Chickens snd dogs should feed get hard. But you are do right!
@@modernhomesteadalaska ❤️
Oh, Jessica, I wish I was as organized as you are!! You are correct, we need to do it now while there is time. I was just talking with a friend who was getting after me to get better organized! Lol! I have a list started as to what needs to be done right away. That chicken is so funny. She likes to see what everyone is up to. God bless you all!
Hey I start with Kurt myself so you are on the right tract now!
Greetings from East Texas! Your channel popped up on my feed. Great video. My Son was stationed in Fairbanks before going to Iraq. New Subscriber ❤
Welcome my new friend!!! So happy you came here!
You are so organized & explain your system very well. It would be easy for everyone to follow your example!!! I hope you are Blessed with a manageable winter! 💜
Wow you are always kind to me but that was so nice
Enjoyed the video
Thank you so much!
I do appreciate any ideas you have and like or even disliked
Thank you so kind
I have used your directions on canning beans (shown on a previous video) for several batches now and it works great. So thankful to have them on my pantry shelves.
Wonderful so happy to hear that.
Love your pantry, this is my to do for this week - inventory, list making & menu making then the fun part shopping. ❤❤❤❤ Even buying just a few extras when going shopping helps to build that stockpile.
Perfect advice. I love that you have a system
Thanks for sharing and giving us an understanding why Alaskans stock up the way they do😊
You are doing what you can fir where you are abs that’s perfect way todo it
Also, if you get an old canning book (like one from the 50s) there are safe canning recipes for pumpkin! We LIVE in pumpkins for winter!!
They do don’t they! Totally agree love this idea.
I probably shouldn’t be watching your videos while doing a 5 day water fast 😂 Your pantry/canning/cooking always inspires me and makes me hungry. 😉 Would love to hear if you have plans to stock up anything extra for the fast approaching winter.
I’m so sorry you are on a cleanse! I do stuff like watch food when I can’t eat it!
New Sub!
That is amazing. Thank you so much for sharing.
Ty Jessica. This was great. I love touring your pantry. I've learned so much from you over the last year.
Wow I’m so touched by that
I was hesitant to can pumpkin to but once pressure canned it really becomes puree when you empty the water. Its all i use now and super easy to keep on the shelf instead of valuable freezer space. If you have time its a great thing to try.
That’s so good to know.
I appreciate the Amazon links and especially your opinion on them❤ Thank you for sharing😊
Good I’m glad it got a good response
That’s a great idea. If we don’t like it it think, if SHTF h of w much would it help to also have to eat things we hate.
Fantastic ❤❤❤❤. I’m glad you started attaching to Amazon Makes my life easier. Sometimes I have to go searching on Amazon for some things u use. Thanks for your extra work. It’s appreciated ❤❤❤
Thank you! You are very welcome
Hi Jessica
Hello friend
On my computer I can create barcodes where I can group the product, the type of product and the ten
best before date (for purchased cans and jars) or the packaging date.
Oh my goodness! I want all that!!
I definitely am glad to get your opinion on Amazon puchases. Thank you for the link.
Oh wonderful thank you
Have you thought about freeze drying can foods that are close to expiration....
Yes. Right now I’m working through frozen food that is older.
Dang 😱 I want the storage room. Now racks in all bedrooms and closets ☹️
Thank you. The space was supposed to be finished house. We figured we don’t need that amount of sq ft so storage it became. I’m hoppy now that I accepted the idea.
I have put together a stocked pantry for similar reasons. Great pantry and video.
Love it. You can do it!
❤❤❤
❤️
[ Labor, packaging are costly.]
Foods that are dear even in your grocery are worse online. I started because we eat a LOT of ground beef. Italian, Mexican, h. helper, etc. Pot roast, ❤ it, lamb roast, too. Boston butt pork roast can also be pulled pork, add bbq sauce when open the jar.
😊
The Carey is a very good starter, BUT, the quarts (4) are wide-mouth only.
Binge watch YT for ideas.
What are Earthquakes shells? Jessica and you show that again pls 9-9-2023👍🏽👍🏽❤️, how do I get to your Amazon store Jessica
No idea just always have. I guess 75 is fine. Maybe because I f do o quarts sometimes so 90 is stuck in my head.
@@modernhomesteadalaska Well as long as you are making refried beans it doesnt really matter...they will be easier to mush. Thanks for the response. I was not criticising, was just curious if your location mattered. Enjoy your videos.
@@janarinehart6888 thank you I thought the exact same. But 75 min is less time I spend waiting on the canner. I can take the other beans down to that
What does the soaking in the beans with vinegar do? I do plain water to soak. By the way - I love your videos. They are always a highlight of the day.
It’s supposed to strip or help strip the stuff off the beam that makes you have gas. I don’t know if it’s true that it works or not.
have ever made mayo?? I can our own hal that was.first thing I ever canned on my own
I make it I just have never canned it.

Hi, new here. Is that Shelf Stable Whipping Cream I saw on the shelf? Can you make butter out of it? Where can I get it? I need that on my shelf.
I got it at Trader Joe’s however I don’t know about butter. I got it when I flew down to see my mom and gandma
Thank you
can you explain what the apple cider vinegar does during the soaking phase? Thanks
It helps break down the things that make your belly upset,
@@modernhomesteadalaska that makes sense, thanks (I am binge watching through your videos so hope you don't mind the comments and questions from old videos)
Is there a reason you have organic APF in bags on your shelves and not in food storage containers.
Lol 😅
Wow I would love to see how that all works! Such a great process you have.
What is the vacuum bag sealer you use?

I have that canner and I'm having an issue with it;
Everytime I use it I always have 1 jar doesn't seal sooo frustrated with this I may sell it !!! Any way you can show me how you load yours???
Sure I’ll show loading it. I so far have only had 1 jar break and all have sealed. So it’s strange to hear.
How did you get rid of the flour bugs
Dump the infested stuff. Froze everything even boxes of pasta and had the house sprayed every month for almost 6 months, it was so hard!
I do t season my beans. If you do t like how soft they are at 90 min just yo the 75. I have had no issue. I don’t pre boil ever.
@@modernhomesteadalaska I'm going to try the 90 and skip the pre-boil. I will definitely cut the time down. Thank you!
Aren’t pints 75 minutes? Not 90?
Yes I’m sorry i was not clear enough theses ones are for refried beans so I cook them longer
I haven't enjoyed a panty video for sometime but I really enjoyed your tour. Thank you.
Well thank you that was kind
Cans last for years
Totally agree!
@@modernhomesteadalaskaI have purchased food from Amazon when I cannot find what I want in the local stores.
You couldn't put a superstore like you have in the average house
Well I’m not 100% sure what your idea of an average house is. But I gave up a big kitchen and a living room to have my pantry. It was a priority. But I got to build the house so I made sure it was. My sons room is so small he can’t put a dresser in it. It’s a give and take on what you want to give space to. I know folks who turn extra rooms into food preps and sq ft wise it’s bigger then what I have
I’d rather clean beans prior, less work for me
You do have to clean them again if you use my method. So please keep that in mind if I was not clear not to can with the soaking water
@@modernhomesteadalaska I clean them once soak overnight and add fresh water when I can
