I personally don't like the title of the act; seems something else would have been more fitting, such as Juneteenth Emancipation from Slavery Act. If they called it that, then ALL SLAVERY in America would be required by Federal law to be ended, including the end to sex trafficking slavery, etc. I understand the importance of this day, but honestly, not all Slavery in america has ended.

It doesn't even matter lol. The date was celebrated and recognized well before this day. All that happened was that they made it a federal holiday.. which means only people in the federal government get the day off. Just another day for our hard-working elected officials to do nothing while we do the same as usual.

When I was growing up, we always had a "Juneteenth". It was called, Lincoln's Birthday, the birthday of the Great Emancipator. They got rid of it because we couldn't have one more Federal Holiday and they wanted MLK's birthday, for those who forgot history. Now they have managed to divorce The Great Emancipator, a Republican who blacks revered for what he did, from the Emancipation that he was murdered for. I thought they didn't want it when they tore down his Emancipation statue the black slaves put up in gratitude.
Only the Democrats could be so ungracious. And I have to hear this Indian woman, the daughter of privileged college professors who never was oppressed in her life talk about it.

Signed into legislation that included more than $100 million for scholarships research and centers of excellence at HBC you land grant institutions.. fully for gave $322 million in disaster loans to for HBCUs in 2018 so they could fully focus on educating students.. enabled faith based HBCU to enjoy access to federal support.. he even donated some of his money to Black universities. I think 'Juneteenth' is a stupid name. I'd prefer 'Abolition Day' or 'Freedom Day' or something like that so it properly honors the occasion. Juneteenth sounds dumb and ignorant.
As a Black woman I feel the same way. I don't like the name either. I actually had to ask and Google what date its on. Juneteenth could've been the 13th through the 19th since those days all have teenth in them. Also kind of offended that George Floyd who wasn't just a victim of Police brutality but at the same time he was a criminal is being associated with our new holiday. I mean a man that put a gun to a pregnant woman's stomach is mentioned in the same sentence as Juneteenth? No need for a Juneteenth. There was already a holiday for the Great Emancipator, Abraham Lincoln, and it was taken out for MLK Day. Now there's a Juneteenth to take the place of the real Independence Day on the 4th of July that should actually be unifying for ALL AMERICANS.

Chicago never had any slave trade.
In the past 185 years, the Chicago Metropolitan Region was entirely planned, developed, built, and industrialized by free peoples.
Also, in the Chicago Metropolitan Region, the black population massively expanded from
3,000 persons in 1865 to
1,410,000 persons in 2022.
So, the Chicago Metropolitan Region
has had a history freedom, massive resources, and exponential growth for the black population.
Now, the Chicago Metropolitan Region has about 8,500,000 persons in 2022, and it has pure history of free peoples.
These polititions can try to perpetuate the slavery issue.
But, they can not change the fact that many Great Northern Cities never made use of any slavery.

Anyway, you will never get any stories out of any black man about any of his ancester ever working as a slave in Chicago.

Juneteenth is not black history it's white history. American blacks didn't become free through battle like the blacks of Haiti, they have an actual Independence Day. As a black person, I would never treat June 19 as a holiday or an event to celebrate. It makes me sick to think anyone would. Just because my kidnapper, enslaver, rapist, murderer, and torturer finally recognized the sin against humanity they were committing? That’s ridiculous. Should someone who was raped celebrate every year the date their rapist released them, OMG. It should be a national day of prayer to beg God’s forgiveness in the hope that He isn't sending not only the enslavers but the generations of their progeny, who reap the benefits even to this day, straight to hellfire for the abhorrent things that were done to fellow human beings.
