    Hi Artists! Did you know that soft pastels become PAINT when you apply water or alcohol? Check out this technique that I LOVE when I'm starting a pastel painting. Let me know if you will give it a try!

    That's really beautiful Susan. I'm left-handed too. I have painted with both hands. It is a great exercise. Thanks for this amazing painting.

    Thank you Susan. I appreciate all of your advice. I can definitely see that you know what you are talking about.By the way I got a set of the pastels that you were using Artyx.Also I got a set Maimofen .Anyway I really like them and I really started having such fun. I used them on pastel mat.And Black sanded paper. I have to say I really liked that black sandpaper or any kind of black paper because as soon as it touches it it’s just like a burst of color, but I found out what you meant about using your neutrals and being easy with color cause it can get out of hand quick. I’m a kid again. I feel that way ha ha ha. Thanks again when I get a little better, I’ll send you. I’ll post a picture. All right have a nice day.

      I agree with you about the burst of color on a black surface. So fun! And I recently saw the MAIMOFEN products and I want to get some of them myself. I've never used them. Keep having fun on this artistic journey.

      @@monetcafe thank you for your reply .Yes the Maimofen pastels are really soft.Like Sennilier. They are almost identical to Artyx.Honestly I like them both equally.My main problem is I get carried away with the assortment of colors and then wind up with a picture that shifts with too much pastel dust and that results in me changing the picture several times.But that is okay with me because I know the more I use them the more I learn about the mistakes I make and possibly pick up a bit of experience.Anyway drew a picture with my little dog.I thought;not too bad for a beginner. Thank you again for your videos and positive energy.And have a nice day.

    Hi from England. I'm left handed and just started with pastels. I tried the technique of isopropyl alcohol and I was impressed with the results. Thanks for the tip. Love watching your videos. 👍

    I love red poppies so much, what a gorgeous painting. Hey I was just watching Lindsay Weirich's latest video about her class' haul in France, and at the end she shows her own purchases including something called Sennelier Le Carte Mixed Media pastel card, which you can get wet, and she says feels similar to Pastelmat. A distributor in Georgia called MacPhersons is carrying it, but it's not clear from the website where you might actually buy it. However, it could conceivably be available somewhere near you! They do have an 800 number, they might be able to tell you. I know how much you love La Carte, so you might want to watch out for it!

    I absolutely love the way you teach! I was always under the impression that I had to smudge pastels to blend. You are just layering and it looks so good! What do you recommend for a beginner set and what paper should a beginner use?

    I hope all is going well..!
    If you didn't know what you were doing before, you certainly know what You're doing now.
    Over the last 7, or 8 years, you and I have shared a lot. When you put the red Poppy in the upper left quadrant, with the blue background; l became profoundly interested in just the one, waiting to see what you'll do with the orange highlights; being the complimentary contrast is in effect
    As you begin working from the upper right horizon line, I hope others can see the color wheel in action, as you worked clockwise with the greens, then deep blues/purple using the secondary color of red and purple, finishing at the upper left quadrant. The orange was last, then you begin to highlight, with the orange all over.
    You are a magnificent artist Susan. :)

    Hi, from India. Thank you for this lovely demo. Do use use the water or alcohol only for the background? Also how do you keep your paintings safe? Do you use fixatives?

    • @monetcafe
      @monetcafe  4 месяца назад

      Thank you so much for your sweet comment. I typically only use the water or alcohol for the initial underpainting or background. As far as keeping my Pastels safe, prior to framing I typically keep them in clear bags with a piece of foam core board cut to the same size for support. I get my clear bags from www.clearbags.com.
