- A 24-year-old woman successfully fought off a male attacker while she was working out alone at her apartment's gym. The man was arrested and charged.

A Tampa woman who fought off an attacker at her apartment complex's gym is speaking out about her experience in the hopes that other women will feel more empowered.
Nashali Alma, 24, said she was exercising in her complex's gym, about 12 miles northwest of downtown Tampa, in late January when a man who looked familiar to her needed access to the gym, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
Alma said she let the man in because she had seen him in the gym before. But as she was working out, Alma told investigators that the man approached her and grabbed her waist. Alma said she yelled at the man to get away from her but he kept chasing her around the gym, police said.

This happened at a property the company I work for own. The woman that was attacked was not as lucky. She is alive but she ended up with a missing ear, broken jaw and orbital bone. He used a dumbbell on her head. How she survived the attack is just so amazing.
I think that she handled the situation as well as she could and I am extremely glad that she was able to escape that situation. Remember, everyone, once they get you into their car, you’re dead. (Not always. It’s just the mindset to have to avoid getting into anyone’s cars. :)

I used to close our gym at midnight. I was it. No other coworkers. It was the most uncomfortable time. I was surprised there was no rule about there being at least 2 employees on duty at all times. Luckily I only did it a few times, then we moved

For anyone who wants an update on this story: the man escaped after this incident but he was arrested the next day. He had tried to assault someone else the next day by pushing into a woman’s apartment but he was chased out by her boyfriend/fiancé. He was arrested on sexual battery, false imprisonment, and kidnapping charges.

This might be a gym that doesn't have that kind of rule, or at least signs. When there's no signs, it makes it easier to forget some places do have that rule. That's why I usually ask people around when I realize they might, it really should be universal imo.

That's not how real life works. You obviously think life is like a book or movie.. predators don't think "oh yes, I found an exhausted female and she won't be able to fight back!"
