- My review of the Keela Tactical Belay 4.0 Jacket, that I recently used in Alaska and have since used in various mountainous regions in the UK.
I talk through the various features and functions of the jacket, it's pros and cons and how best I see it being employed.
This jacket is available from the Keela Tactical website here;
keela-tactical.solutions/prod...
And from Combat Cellar here;

Happy New Year, my friend. Thanks for video.
Quality piece of kit mate. Great video
Cheers mucker! 🆎👍
I'm looking at this jacket for law enforcement, in the U.S. Honestly, for a jacket that does all that, it falls right in line. I may very well purchase this jacket for the coming Winter season. Thanks for the videos. I appreciate it from across the pond.
Cheers mate!
Cheers mate, good review
Very nice jacket Mr. Tom 🤙👍
Looks cool!
Cheers, yeah it's a nice bit of kit.
I just took a hike in my local woods with a minor Ivar load out.
I hope you can get back to Alaska again. I enjoyed y'alls vids.
Cheers mate!
Great bit of kit. Keela does the Vali, which is essentially the same jacket minus the hood.
looks fab
Maximum quality..... very attractive and insulted perfectly...... good job sir..... 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Cheers!
Happy New Year fella.
Happy New Year mate 👍
Looks quality Tom. Never been ab MTP/Multicam fan but looked solid in AK.
Nate
It's a great camo pattern for many environments to be fair. Worked great in Afghanistan.
Great jacket used it in massive down pore and temperatures-5. Never looked back
Just caught up with this excellent video. I could have done with the jacket in the Czech Republic in 1996. The temperature sank to minus 25C. It was so bad I learned the hard way what happens if you don't keep stamping your feet i.e. even thick soled boots stick and crack. They told me it was their coldest winter for years. I had dificulty explaining, " No shit Sherlock
". Thanks again.
Cheers mate
Great advice i'm looking to buy a new smock, its a good new option cheers mate.
It’s a great jacket for cold, wet weather but obviously limited in it’s use, depending on weather conditions.
Your reviews of the practical use and utilization of equipment, gear & clothing are very good. Especially with the extra input on what to place in the pockets is very insightful, which is usually overlooked in reviews (in the US in particular). I have subscribed. The jacket in this review is different from what is on Keela's website, your jacket is missing the chest pockets with the vertical openings along with what appears to be a small vertical pocket over the zipper flap cover. Is it the newer one? Also, what would be the equivalent competitor's jacket?
I reckon the nearest competitor would be the Carinthia MIG.
Great review and class equipment from Keela, the only regret I have it took me to long to find them and how much I have spent on other inferior clothing at more than double the price………
Happy New Year! I use Keela kit, never let me down and quality is some of the best you will ever see. Keela winter hat is a real winner in pouring rain, cold wind or snow if you are not walking too hard or static and the Thor is excellent as a rain jacket. This jacket looks great, but I think it works as you say for those in colder locations than the UK in general and open vehicle bods that get a dose of weather frequently. Not sure how small it packs down as that might be a factor for those of us who don't use a hard shell and warm kit items combined in one? It's a first world problem really, as Keela are great and their system really does stop you getting soaked. Between Keela and Arktis they cover most of my go to kit, pity I could not access/afford this stuff in the 80s where 'windproof' dpm was as good as it got! So another trip to Alaska with the Keela ECWS Jacket next trip, we should 'sponsor it' for you? Looking forward to your 2023 adventures.
Ha ha, yeah doing a sponsored trip would be nice! I have the Keela Mk4 Waterproof Jacket to trial next.
@@PreparedPathfinder MK4 looks great, be good to see how that stacks up.
Love your channel. If I may make a suggestion - When it comes to reviewing clothing, it might be helpful to discuss how the garment fits YOU. Just a little blurb about your height/weight and sizing. Which would give others an idea on where they might fall size wise. Then they can consult the manufacturers information. Often my biggest hesitation when ordering things (especially internationally) is agonizing over the fitment.
Roger that, cheers. Quite pertinent to my next jacket review as it goes.
Nice buddy, for the layer user the Keela Multicam SF Jacket 4.0 is the same best jacket I’ve owned, also as armpit zippers to cool off or regulate body temp😎👍also has the same arm Velcro if you should have wings😜🤣
That’s next for review mate!
I would like to see them add, Pit Zips, under the arms to ventilate , and side zips at the waist to reach a handgun or other gear on the belt.
Each to his own, but l don’t miss either tbh.
Alaska happens!
Happy New Year & thanks for the review! However, personally I wouldn't consider it unless it was available in subdued civilian colours and more importantly.. I'd be able to attach my 'admin line/ karabiner (like you demonstrated in previous videos).. I like the high arm pockets - if you can recommend a similar one I'll probably just continue with the 4 layering system. Could you do an update on your EDC for this year?!? - Cheers mate!!!
Roger, will do. This is available in black btw 👍
Or you could dylon it olive or brown using walnuts?
Utrinque Paratus & First In 👏👏👏🇬🇧
Cheers!
Honi soit qui mal y pense 🇬🇧👍
Don’t worry Tom I’ll say it… HAT!!! 😂😂😂. Only joking, before anyone has a go at me for being Regist. 😅
😂😂😂 fair play mukka… still a hat tho. Not a ledge unless you’re Reg 😂 Utrinque Paratus brother🤙🏻🆎🟥🪂
@@Paddyp883 🤣🤣🤣
Looks the business. Have you thought about reviewing the Keela Bor jacket?
I would if I had one. Got the SF Mk 4 one ready to review next.
Do you have any interesting take on concealed carry? Draw technique and such? All we have are some Green Berets and Seals flopping around.
The name Belay suggests it's designed for rope work, Belaying, but obviously it's a good all round bit of kit, a bit too military looking for most civvies though, brown, green or black would be a good alternative.
Yeah it’s made in black too.
@@PreparedPathfinder Ah right, nice one 👍🏻 stay prepared 👌🏻
Would love to get one but they seem to be out of XL size everywhere I look :(
Great jacket, what kind of back were you using on this hike?
Just the standard back my Mum issued me with on day one 🤔
Been looking at getting the Keela Thor jacket, anyone be able to tell me the difference between the two?
I've been eyeing up this and the smock version without the zipper for throwing on when in harbours, standing/recce patrols, stag, ambushes if it's particularly cold or wet. Would you recommend sizing it to fit over armour rather than having to remove PPE in order to don/doff at short notice?
Depends on how you're operating mate. One thing I would say though, these fit true to size, unlike the dedicated waterproofs that Keela make, that are oversized.
@@PreparedPathfinder cheers mate
Was Alaska the first time that you used the jacket in rainy weather? Is it a DWR coated jacket? How much does it weigh? Do you have sufficient freedom of motion - can you move quickly wearing it or does it limit your freedom of motion? How high up on your face does the hood provide protection from weather?
I'd used it in the UK in bad weather before using it in Alaska. I'm not sure how much it weighs. Yes it allows good freedom of movement. The hood is adjustable and provides good weather protection.
gen question, whats your thoughts on a civvi cutting around in a jacket like this? I would, but don't want to be branded a walt 😂
TBH I don't think anyone would care. They make this in black too, I forgot to mention.
The Keela 'Thor' waterproof was useful as well though I don't own one. The armed police and other people we won't mention certainly use that gear.
Don't laugh, but I just used my old PCS 'Buffalo' jacket while wearing the really useful PCS Thermal undershirt, to do my recycling! The cardboard was everywhere. Both pieces are dirt cheap and are available new to the non-military through disposal channels through the MoD.
After your suggestion the other day I did visit the Keela website to compare their prices to Carinthia (which I have a lot of) and some of the Arc'teryx LEAF, which I've never been able to get my hands on to supply shortages, So I would also suggest to the people to check out their website.
Ironically I also bought a Rab Salvo Jacket softshell to cover my needs where I just couldn't be arsed to source a Clawgear Audax Hoody which as they don't have the brain cells to ship to the UK, I thought I'd give the business to Rab/L.D Mountain Centre! Clawgear is nice when the supplier will actually supply the customer!
Show them your PCS gear, and tell 'em how useful the PCS Baselayer, PCS Thermal Undershirt, PCS 'Buffalo', and the humble PCS cold weather jackets are, and where they can find them. A short comparison with say Arc'teryx gear would leave people somewhat in shock!
If you want access to a pile of clothing, like Clawgear, Carinthia and so on I can let you film some stuff at the local park! My face isn't going on camera though!
There's Carinthia MiG4.0 and the LiG4.0 garments, Clawgear Audax, Rapax jackets, and so on. I probably have more gear than an army surplus retailer! It would mean a trip to Hertfordshire though, but that's a lot cheaper than buying Carinthia gear or Clawgear just to review it.
slightly more useful than my bearskin, tactical Hoodie
Whats your personal opinion about the whole, No Gary Trousers, no Para reg gen? I get it if you're moving about etc. But static, it makes sense to stay dry and warm. It's the Old School crisp packet Waterproofs turned people against them.
It's bollocks really mate. If the weather's bad enough you need to be protected, especially if you're static, like in an OP. I learned that the hard way in the PF.
I know it’s a bit different from the kit reviews but could you make a video on preparing for para selection?
As in initially joining or P Company?
@@PreparedPathfinder I was meaning initially but a P company one would be mint!
@@ogbrokist8510 tbh l joined in 1988, so the process will be different now.
Course you can’t use the trousers… everyone knows you never go full Gary. Happy new year brother 🤙🏻🆎🟥
Ha ha, cheers! Happy New Year!
Hi mate,ex REME hat here, well someone had to be.
Just been watching the Brecon bug out scenario, you mentioned your car
Have you done a video on the gear in your car etc?.I’ve done some bits to mine usually when something has gone wrong
Cheers Phil
The hat you wore in that video di you sell them👍🏻🇬🇧
Hi Phil, yeah I did a quick vid about what I keep in my car for emergencies here; ruclips.net/video/m1cp8rehzMc/видео.html . I could do with updating that as it goes. Yes I sell the caps on my website; www.preparedpathfinder.com
PS I have some good ex REME mates (don't tell anyone! Ha ha!)
@@PreparedPathfinder cheers just found the website, messaged you through there 👍🏻
From a hunting perspective I think it'd make a good hide jacket.
Absolutely, would work great for that. Would be good for an OP too.
I still like the old kit aside from the old softies which I've changed to the newer pcs version I still like and use DPM smock etc with the old DPM gortex over kit if it pisses down
See any Sasquatch in Alaska, mate?
How many pounds do you weigh and how tall are you? Ultimately leading to what size is the jacket you’re wearing?
I’m about 5’8 and around 200lbs, l normally wear an XL and this is an XL.
Nice none Tom
What size are you using
XL
@@PreparedPathfinder cheers dude
Don't waste your money....unsuited to military use....or only for instructors or range control when stood about watching the action. Collar is massive and bulky...but ironically won't zip up all the way....if you can force it you can't move your head, like wearing a neck brace....and eventually the zip wil break. Cuffs also tight and not elastic...have to push sleeve up to look at watch.
Waterproof, windproof and warm enough but not adaptable...and hugely expensive. Stick with the softie and a waterproof...free issue or cheap to buy and they work far better. Or get the Snugpak Torrent....has removeable hood and is altogether more comfortable and usable....and lots cheaper....same waterproofing and warmth.
Don't fall for the designer 'SF' hype....it's a gold-plated dog-walking jacket. If Keela tweaked it it'd be a good jacket...but until then avoid unless you don't care about the collar, cuffs and price-tag.
It does have uses, as l mentioned at the end. And it’s not as expensive as some similar jackets out there.
The collar is quite bulky but it’s not that bad. I’ve never heard of the zip breaking on a Keela jacket. No doubt they’d replace it if it did. The cuffs are fine, and they’re adjustable.
