Thank you for posting. Helped me out. I did the same thing by marching colors. I was getting aggravated so I took a break and watched your video.
I don't understand why you don't use the reverse wire on that harness.
That was my first thought
Just installed a Putco Blade super bright compared to others. Amazon for $186 to door
Kool but I just bought the harnest eliminates all splicing plug n ply just tie wrap loose cables.......
yep me too its made by a company called Curt ...makes is soooo much easier
I wired this same light bar to my 2001 Ram 1500, but the lights stay on even if the truck is off. I've just been disconnecting the battery so the draw doesn't kill it. How would I fix that?
Everything works reverse lights turn signals but when I hit the brakes everything turns off
Hey did you cut the 4 pin harness (male) from the led tailgate light? To wire it directly to the 7 pin harness?
Yes
My trailer harness has way different colors. Brown, black, green, red with purp, white with orange, white with red, and white with blue. So I am not sure
What did you use to connect the wires when you cut it ? And how? Because I just tried and nothing was working
J Rangel it’s soldered into the wiring of my trailer harness. Just looked up the factory wiring harness color codes to match up the left turn, right, turn, brake, and running light of the light bar with the harness wires and that was it
I hooked up this led tailgate bar and I followed your directions and the everything works, right and light signals and parking lights but I cannot get my reverse lights to come on. What am I doing wrong?
That red wire I ran up is tied into the positive wire of my reverse light. If you have this same light bar that should be all you have to do. If it's a different brand than whatever color is says is for reverse light use that to tie into the positive wire.
Its weird I ran the red wire to the reverse light of my ram and it seems there is no power to the light. The light was working before I installed the LED light. Any other ideas
Thanks Brandon finally got it, purple wire did it.
Glad it worked for ya!
T- tabs work great too
I don't usually post comments, but I looked EVERYWHERE to help me with installation of a LED strip with no luck. Thanks so much!!! You've been a huge help!!!
Plugging this into my trailer plug disabled my Blind spot detection....Backup sensors and Pedestrian alert detection. How do I avoid that from happening? My bet is you have no idea because you have an older truck. No answers anywhere.
Question , when I just checked function of light bar b4 permanently installing all the features worked fine the directional would only flash the side I that I was turning then after permanently installing everything worked good but it's like the running light stays on and the side that I have the blinker on just flashes brighter but opposite side still at running light level what could cause this can tapping into reverse light in taillight have caused this ?
Thank you! Just what I needed!
One other thing, my tail light does have two wires also but the colors are purple and black
the black is probably your ground and purple is positive. I'd double check with your manual or google search, but whatever color ends up being your positive use that one
