As a new player ( 15 weeks), I find your way of breaking plays down extremely helpful. More than once a casual comment you make enlightens my understanding. Thank you!
I had a position like this recently. I attacked and my opponent counter attacked. That put me in defensive mode and he gradually wore me down from there. That is why i was interested in this video and got some clues from it too.
I love these videos, much appreciated!! Hearing your thought process is super helpful, so is watching your analysis (analyses? 😂) from different rated players. I get something out of EVERY one of these videos, thank you!!
Thanks for the very instructive videos! It’s insane how much content you’ve been giving us the past few days. Unrelated, but why are the white pieces in the background of your webcam progressively turning red? 😂
i always seem to make the wrong descision to defend or to attack when I play a somewhat aggressive defense with black, like the Pirc or the Kingsindian.
Well actually if rook went e6 is a bad move because if he went there rook black f8 will go f7 if he it’s the takes horse and pawn takes the rook. f7 is defending checkmate line.
back to the position at 10:45 : since your queen was controlling squares that were already controlled, could you have moved it to Qe7 ? It might look like an attack to c5 (with check) and when your opponent would defend it, Qe3+, and then no matter what they do, you either take the rook if they block with it, or Rxh2# if the king goes directly to the corner. Even if they saw that coming, there seems no way to stop it, am I missing something ?
I would have played Qf7 as well as a knee-jerk response because usually that’s the right square for a Q or B relative to a N. Precisely because this move “feels so right” since it so often is, that it blinds you from considering other moves. Even though Qh7 looks better after a few seconds of consideration (maintains pressure on c2 and batter on h file) I would probably not even have considered it in a blitz game which is sad. It’s this type of auto response that is IMO the primary source of blunders and missed opportunities in humans. I see this type of error all the way up to super GM level. The flaw in a nutshell is premature narrowing of focus resulting in failure to consider all factors and options (even obvious ones) in a position. Aka tunnel vision.
@@ChessVibesOfficial my first thought was maybe you were being locked away in a sound proof ward, but we have the two knights secret code now so all good 😁
look at multiple different moves. gets a little bit complicated, especially in the middlegame, so I would recommend looking for forcing moves (checks, captures, threats) for both players.
There's a German video by TheBigGreek on "Kandidatenzüge". In this video he describes what he tries to look for, when checking the board for tactics. For example checking if you can take a piece, or if throwing in a check will lead to something. The idea is to also do this for the opponent to be aware of threads.
i often get into positions like this where i'm trying to figure out if i can launch an attack before my opponent does... often i find it comes down to how many forcing moves are available... because if you're just putting your pieces into position and your opponent can get to a point where they start putting forcing moves on you it's hard to resume your attack plan.
I think queen e7 then e3 or c5 could have been a really great move since it can threaten checkmate immediately. However, white can still counterattack with a queen trade so not really sure if that could work.
When the analysis was double time from the hole game... I mean was just 3 min chess... If mean who we should thing in standar time OK but is almost impossible to even thing the half of this in 3 min.
We ain't all chess masters, Do you have any content for 700-1200 players? It's fun watching this but there is a lot of us that would like to see "boring" games, meaning less masterful moves, this video is cool, but we don't see anything that leads up to it? Never mind I sound like an idiot, I cant explain what I'm trying to say...
i have a friend who only attacks he just put his king in a corner in front of a rook and calls it a day I could easily put a queen there and mated him (that sounded horni) but my other fat friend didn't see the checkmate and just focused on killing his pieces
After 1. bxc5, Rxh2, the 2. c6? lose immediately by 2. c6?, g5!! ∓ with a clear win for black. The only way to equalize is a little bit difficult for white to find 2. Rb1!== putting a piece into a capture square.
I like how he can make lessons out of his games. and being really honest about his mistakes makes it even a better learning material
Agreed, he is really well spoken and always has really interesting positions and insights.

I like this series that you teach from your own games. A lot of learnings! Thanks Nelson

You have helped me hit from 900 - 1250 in blitz and from 900 - 1240 in rapid. You also helped me get to 2000 in puzzles. Thanks for all your help!
Attack is the best form of defense! (most of the time)

Good thing to explain the difference between defending and shutting down the attack.
Nice background Nelsi! Great video as always!
That sound foam looks rad!
The studio new look is awesome man!

Very instructive , thank you for such amazing stuffs.
That new room design looks better and a very helpful video. You feel hopeless, if you don't know what move should i make!
Very good video on not to react on your first instinct, but to look if there is a better move. Thanks for the upload.
What if at 10:10 White went Re6? Threatening RXd6 with the idea of Qb7#?
What's your opinion on it Nelson?
Well actually if rook went e6 is a bad move because if he went there rook black f8 will go f7 if he it’s the takes horse and pawn takes the rook. f7 is defending checkmate line.
Chess is great
Oh indeed it is
What a nice new room you got there. It looks like a chess board:))
I wonder what happens when all white pieces turned red? Is this some kind of countdown for something to happen?
This is such a tough decision. Thank you for addressing it.

Sweet upgrade on the room! Is that soundproofing? Is that to keep the sound out or in haha? As always, great video.
Thanks man. I got it to keep my kids screaming out of the videos =P

How do you calculate specific moves when it isn't clear what your opponent's or your best move is?
look at multiple different moves.

Can you make videos on Mikhail Tal's games?
Nice wall. Was it worth it? Bit surprising you went for black and blue instead of your "signature green".
Nelson if u had played that early queen move right I can't see any way out for white, provided u removed his h pawn first. I may be wrong of course.
Make videos on Mikhail Tal games
How about Ne3,threatening both bishop and rook, capture the bishop, and when king recaptures, you can recapture a pawn with the Queen with check?
What about *Ne3* instead of *Rh2* ? It immediately removes White's dangerous light bishop
I started chess 2 or 3 months ago , what should I do?
To defend or not to defend, that is the question!
what about g5 to kick the knight before starting your attack? too slow?
I just noticed the background, i love the walls, man.
Thanks!
@@ChessVibesOfficial word up
Wait.... you can defend too? Lol #overlyaggressive
good vid
Best defence was counterattack.
Nice!
Am I the only one who smile seeing Nelson in his new room?
that's not his new room, looking at door and you'll recognise that he just redecorated his room. Yep, it's beautiful
In almost all chess puzzles I have played the theme is defend vs attack and the solution is most of the time attack. Do you agree?
We want a lesson for calculation ,calculating lesson and etc
Why every day they are more and more red pieces in your background ?
I played what u told me. The game was kinda bad but I won
Almost lost my queen tho 😅
Thx
The best defense is a good offense
I would have forked the Bishop & the Rook....that's just me🤔❤♟
Thank you for your comment
Nc6 on turn 3 was a blunder, Qh5 is winning for white.
When the analysis was double time from the hole game...

woah what happened to your walls
why not knight to E3?

Or be like Tal and do both at the same time
He made all of these mistakes, and still won! XD

Can you plz review my game? It has a nice tactic I saw and worked completely well 😅
