Dammit, another heart-stranglin' loss for the outsider music world. No Mojo Nixon, No Daniel Johnston, No Wesley Willis, No Roky Erickson. World's fallin' apart. Respect to you
I got to see him play about twenty years ago in a local bar. He sat at the bar before the concert, drank beer, and hung out with the patrons. He was a genuinely nice guy. That was absolutely one the best concerts I've ever seen and that says a lot. At the end, for his encore he was asking the crowd what they wanted to hear. I screamed his name, he looked at me, I yelled Beer Ain't Drinking. He pointed at me and then proceeded to play it. It was awesome. It wasn't until the next morning when I woke up extremely hungover, deaf, and feeling like a sack full of dirty assholes that I realized that I had never asked for an autograph. LMAO!!! At least I still have the memory.
I lived in San Diego in the late 80's when Mojo, Skid and Beat Farmers would play all the time. I agree, he was absolutely approachable, friendly, grateful to every fan for coming out and watching his circus. What you see is what you got.
Man am I going to miss him. I'm 51 years old and I just started listening to country and the only country I like is outlaw type of country. Started listening to him about 3 years ago. What a personality. Id look forward to his show and goofy thoughts. Tearing up cuz I'll miss him. Crazy to think that about someone dony even know. Mojo was funny. Didn't give a F and just loved that about him. I'll miss him
The funniest part is being French freshly landed in the USA, renting a car from Hertz and leaving with the windows down; turn on the radio with UFO BIG RIGS & BBQ, everyone looks at you with a weird look accompanied by a few welcome smiles. Mojo is one of my favorite artists =). Music is borderless and it can bring people together, not to listen to in moderation, quite the contrary.
I gotta pandora station dedicated to Mojo, that’s how I found The Dick Twang Band… 🤗 Been a fan of Mojo Nixon since the early 80’s Mojo IS The Greatest ☝️🧐
Saw him at the Lion's Lair in Denver in 2014, we hung out at the bar before his show and drank Gin n' Tonics, just as real and down to Earth as they make em. He's the only reason I have a subscription to SXM, his show has turned me on to some of the greatest music on the planet.
I'm from Danville VA and grew up just down the road from Kirby and Artie McMillan. Their Dad drove aorund town in a sky blue VW van with WILA call letters on the side- Kirby and my brother Lance graduated together.
Are Ya Drinkin With Me Jesus ??? Love Ya Mojo….Don’t know why I missed your shows with Skid Roper at Grinnell College but I did. I give ya a little shout out every time a Cubensis Cap is in my hand !!!
Mo jo was the Man that got me to sign up for Sirius xm hes great at what he does keep up the good work mo jo u the man u tell the truth my mom would love u for that she always said tell the truth or you will get caught up in a lie you're the best DJ that I ever heard love listening to you and u know your shit about music music
songs notwithstanding, his best line ever was on Siriuxm one day. Venus williams and all the Wimbledon drama was going on. Can't remember the exact story but it dominated the news for weeks. SO one day on Outlaw County - following one of those Sirius ads, promoting the sports channels and especially Wimbledon. mojo immediately signs on and says; "Hey friends, this is Mojo Nixon and i dont give a FUCK about womens tennis!" then he immediately plays a song. it was funny as hell. ballsy at the time.
Mojo used to have a radio show in Austin way back when, and Gibby Haynes guest hosted with him, some of the most hilarious stuff I've ever heard, 4 hrs of insanity ensued.
Mojo and Skid at Belmont's with Flapjacks and Bolos and Pine Street Theatre with Camper Van Beethoven. Portland Oregon loved Mojo!!!! Wait, fuck that! Portland STILL loves Mojo! (put up that entire Portland Or video please. A few songs ain't enough!!!) -Nordy
Hey Mojo...I got more Elvis in me than most...being born in MS just like Elvis....not only that, but my Mom's friends remarked about how my Dad looked similar to Elvis....now gimme a fried peanut butter and banana sandwich.
¡Viva Mojo! I was fortunate to find out about Mojo, growing up in North Cackalacky in the 80's. So, I've been enjoying' his humor & music for a good while, listening to him & Richard Pryor I developed a love for music & humor. As Mojo says, "If you don't like it than @$#&! U!" Also screw all this Political Correctness BS! Blazin' Sandals couldn't be made today, & it's a hilarious movie. God Bless Mojo Nixon, and Mel Brooks too!
I sure hope Sirius/XM keeps airing his channel identification call sign - “OUTLAAAAWOOO COUNTRY! I’d say rest in peace, but that’s not really his style 😁
RIP, Mojo. I’m gonna miss that voice and that energy.
He is a fantastic songwriter. There isn't another musician on earth who could write a Mojo Nixon song. Period.
Dammit, another heart-stranglin' loss for the outsider music world. No Mojo Nixon, No Daniel Johnston, No Wesley Willis, No Roky Erickson. World's fallin' apart. Respect to you
Thank you for including WW in your list, gone too early, and not often remembered

One of my greatest musical memories was seeing Mojo Nixon at a shit hole dive in Mississippi in the 1980's - he's the real deal and cool af!
Yeah I met him at The Masquerade in Atlanta some 27 years ago. He was super nice. Put on a great show too.

“The Story of One Chord” is one of the most important lessons in songwriting you’ll ever hear.

The freedom he spoke about is an illusion.
But I'm still entertained.
I will miss him, so intertaining and funny. See you in heaven brother mo.

Gooch,
Blazing Sandals should be required reading.
Mojo gets it: music should make you happy or piss you right off.
If it doesn't do one or the other, it's just noise.
Just over two months ago I was listening to Mojo speaking about the death of Shane MacGowan and now he’s gone too. Really makes you think.
That is one awesome shirt
Mojo Nixon is like a modern day version of The Big Booper.
Would love to see ol' Mojo on Joe Rogan!
