really dug the different format of this video! little hobby, little new gaming experience - look forward to seeing more of these spearhead armies come together
Spearhead is a great format. Joined a league for it. Absolutely love it. I've had aos models for a long time but never got to play em, spearhead changed that.
Great video. I've just played the one game of Spearhead so far but absolutely loved it. I've since bought a few Vanguard/Spearhead boxes to paint up and start playing more frequently. It's a really fun game.
While I've been out of GW for a minute, this was really nice to see. Glad to see the format's good, I have been a little tempted by some of the Spearhead boxes... But the comment about getting miniatures on the table was especially nice. I do love seeing models painted at a very high level, but it's also nice to hear someone with that skillset saying that there's value in a 'good enough' paint job.
Thank you, I'm glad to hear that my comments resonated with you :) Spearhead does feel like the kind of game you just want to have fun with, get a few models, get them painted up, and have a good time. It definitely doesn't need to be more than that. And since it's basically a board game you don't need to go full-on into GW to enjoy it. They really did something neat with this one.
Love the Sleep Token shirt. Always nice to find fellow fans. Love the video as always, might have to dip my toes into spearhead as well thanks to you and Jay
Sleep Token is so good! The last album is by far the best thing that has come out this year. Spearhead is super fun, and when Jay thinks a game is fun I definitely listen up, he plays so many games it's ridiculous, dude knows what's good.
I always hear people say mesbg is their best game, but Spearhead is at least easy enough to just get a box and keep it as almost a board game. So the barrier to getting a game in is pretty low, which feels very weird from GW, hopefully that will continue.
@@eBayMiniatureRescues exactly. Having shoe horned my DND group into a few games of SW Legion's skirmish game I'm hoping spearhead is quicker and looks easy to teach
@@gregoryhall4062 haha, nice! Spearhead is small enough that if they’ve played a skirmish game then it won’t be much different, it does feel bigger but it’s on the same size board. Definitely a good place to introduce new people though!
I feel you on models that have been sitting forever. I just now got my Legionaries Kill team 99% finished (Just have to paint the bases on 8 of the guys) and I've owned them since the day they came out. Then once the bases are painted I just have to 3d print and paint the base nameplates
Spearhead is the best game that GW currently makes. It's all the fun of pushing minis around a table and throwing dice but without a hundred additional pages of soul-sucking, poorly written rules to wrestle with. I'm playing/guiding a few Spearhead games a week at this point. Sometimes, you can just be happy with a prefixed group of minis.
Cool video and new format, Casey! please consider making a crossover with Jay and/or Erick from erick´s hobby workshop, you three are my favorite hobby tubers.
Thanks! I'm technically working on a project with Eric right now, but we haven't made progress in a while...we'll get there though :) I would love to do something with Eons too, those guys are great!
This sounds super cool idk why GW doesn’t do more stuff like this. I’ll happily try this out where as regular Warhammer I usually just tell my friends no hahaha
Played my first spearhead this week as well and haven't had this much fun with Warhammer since my first game with the newest Warcry edition. Left feeling hyped to hobby and game even more glad to see you feel the same
I pretty much only play bloodbowl but am currently getting into old world with a few friends with STLs I allready own. Maybe once we printed everything we'll see if we could also play spearhead with it.
I think that might be the magic of spearhead, you don't need all that many models to have a game that feels like a larger game, and old world stuff will definitely be able to just slot right in. Pretty neat :) I really need to play Bloodbowl, I have models, still haven't hopped in.
Isn't it terrible how the minis we care about most are a struggle to paint, and models we care least about and paint up fast are the ones other people lavish praise on?
Thanks! The display cases are from Home Depot of all places. They are pretty nice, a little bit of a pain to put together, but they come with the led strips and look pretty nice when they are done :) There should be a link that pops up during the video that takes you to them on the HD website. If you are looking to actually get one I would suggest waiting until they go on sale...I got mine for like $100 less than what they normally are
After the huge disappointment of 40k 9 and 10ed and the slow excrementalization of KillTeam, I had given up on GW making a playable ruleset (Warcry excepted). But the enthusiasm I've seen for Spearhead from Guerilla Minatures Games, Eons, and a bunch of others has gotten me interested. I have a ton of old minis and Dominion, so Im going to give it a try.
Same here...have a bunch of Nighthaunt but no KoS on foot, so I'll need that set (ebay has these listed for way too much) and could use more Chainrasps anyway.
I know what you mean. I feel like 8th was fun for a minute and since then I haven't bothered. Even if you don't go full in on Spearhead, it's basically a balanced-ish boxed game that has rules for a ton of models, so it's something that can be pulled out like Warcry and just played without having to think about it too much, really different for GW and I hope they continue this trend!
The cases are from Home Depot! There should be a link on the video, in the "shopping" section, wherever that is. But they are fufu and gaga black display cases with leds. A little spendy when they aren't on sale, but so far they have been very nice cases!
Out of curiosity, what is the black sheet you have covering your workbench? I know in older videos you put black paper of some kind but i wouldn't think a paper would clean up as easily as the stuff you have on it now.
It's a silicone mat, nothing too special, I think this one was like $10 on Amazon. Some Isopropyl alcohol and a towel and they clean off really quickly. I use it as a dry palette and just wipe away the paint, super handy! I think this is the one I have, or at least it looks like the same one, but you get the idea :) a.co/d/33qJ8c4
Not really related to the video, but I love the metal band t shirts, you have excellent taste in music. You don't worry about getting paint on your concert shirts though?
haha, thanks! I do love a good band t :) Normally I don't worry about getting paint on them, if I'm doing casual work it's not really a problem, and when I do anything that requires gloves I throw on the hobby apron. The $15 Amazon apron has definitely saved a fair amount of shirts!
I’m so confused lol, is that Sergio Calvo and Squidmar pieces just casually on display at your FLGS? How did they end up there? I may be wrong about the Squidmar one though
lol I think you're right, I was capturing video from the LGS facebook page since they don't have a website, I think that was a picture of whatever convention they went to, but the Tau in that case are from a local artist, so I just assumed it was at the store. Those larger pieces you mentioned are definitely from Sergio and Emil.
I got these from Home Depot! They are Fufu and Gaga black display cases with LEDs. There should be a link in the "shopping" tab of the video, I don't know where that is exactly, but the icon pops up when the video is playing. They have been really great, definitely worth it when they go on sale!
I was once given a Ork warclan start collecting box then told it didn't work as an army and that I should but a load more units so I never tried the game, also the mate who bought me the box stopped playing.
On one hand that's a bummer, but you got a fantastic box of Orks! So that's a huge win :) Depending on the box you might be able to play a game with it right now, but even then, you can use whatever rules the Orks have currently and just call the units whatever you want, it doesn't have to be perfect to be fun. Spearhead is definitely made for playing with a box like that.
@@eBayMiniatureRescues actually after writing that comment I went and got hem out and I think using the app it's 490pts so I'm gonna try and get someone to help me play a game.
Lolol the switch from a fyreslayers thumbnail to something more popular aka a GW case is hilarious. Its so unfortunate for the stunty lovers that army is so dull with everything looking so samey same. They 100% need to lean into the warcry warband on any future models for them bc they actually made them cool verses naked baby dwarfs they are now.
Never know when they will refresh the range, they do need more variety! The Thumbnail switch is automatic from RUclips, several get loaded in and whatever one ends up being the one that actually gets clicked on is the one that RUclips sets. In this case, no pun intended, the case one was like 10% higher, so it is now the only thumbnail that will show for this video. I was rooting for the blurry Fyreslayer though...
I've heard that about Combat Patrol, weird how different it is. But, I have a feeling they learned from mistakes made with Combat Patrol and were able to make Spearhead work much better, also less shooting...Hopefully if spearhead makes waves they will revamp cp and make it just as good, we'll see!

I actually got my wife into Warhammer via Underworlds and now Spearhead.

haha, at least those are the less expensive ways to play! technically...
Ayy, Sleep Token shirt! Nice.
Gotta love that Redgrass lamp, really helping with my 50ish year old eyes!

Acquired and painted the slaves to Darkness Army just last weekend I played an event and had so much fun Calvary all the way
Great video. I've just played the one game of Spearhead so far but absolutely loved it. I've since bought a few Vanguard/Spearhead boxes to paint up and start playing more frequently. It's a really fun game.
