MS at this time were nuclear powered and designed for space. An MS reactor wasn’t guaranteed to blow, and at this point the explosions were relatively small, and sometimes they do just disable from damage and pilots will even try to do just that. When beam weapons became more common the chain reactions likewise happened more, since beams always cause a reaction if they hit the reactor. In space, where these machines were primarily designed to operate, this isn’t too bad but it’s devastating in atmosphere. A good example is the first episode of Unicorn where a ReZel goes nuclear and obliterates entire blocks in a colony and even puts a hole in it. tl;dr MS being powered by reactors is the reason they sometimes blow. In space this isn’t as big a deal and tbh when you’re hit in space you’re usually dead anyway.
feels weird how the Movable Frame was supposed to give MS more agility/better movement when OYW suits are shown to be just as agile and poseable with their primitive tech.
The movable frame was more about extending the range of motion possible while maintaining armour strength, the suits likely kept around about the same mobility while being able to up their armour
@@averyangrycrow4936but if I recall it's main downside is exactly the opposite - it opens up a new range of humanlike motions, but a the cost of severely reducing structural stability and weakening the armour as you're supposed to dodge enemy fire now rather than taking it (which you wouldn't survive anyway due to everything having beam weaponry). Honestly, it seems movable frame exists only as a plot device and Gundam writers/animators just don't care to keep everything consistent with it.
Really, he throw away his beam rifle. I mean I get it he's just a kid. But come on, he could have at least attached it to the back of his mobile suit. Or create distance between him and the Zaku to shoot it.
