  • Sue is a Summit Eye Care patient and a recent recipient of the Light Adjustable Lens. She is also an optometrist with nearly 30 years of experience in cataract surgical care.
For over 50 years, Sue suffered from astigmatism that impeded her vision and required her to wear an array of glasses. Once diagnosed with cataracts, she began exploring her vision correction options. After learning more about the adjustable lens option, Sue decided it was the best fit for her lifestyle.
Sue describes the lens as "life changing." With perfect vision, she now lives an improved lifestyle with the ability to enjoy activities she loves and is no longer dependent on glasses. Not only does she recommend LAL to anyone in need of cataract surgery, she insists that any optometrist not recommending LAL to their patients is doing a "disservice."
"It's the wave of the future and it's the direction the industry is going."
    ---
A recent breakthrough in vision technology, the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) is the only adjustable intraocular lens that makes it possible to optimize a patient’s vision after the lens is implanted. Thanks to Light Adjustable Lenses, many of our patients are able to greatly reduce or even eliminate the need for glasses or contacts after cataract surgery.

I got these lenses and had one eye set to near and one to far. It's been great! With the astigmatism fixed it is just amazing how crisp everything is - especially stars at night. Threw out all my old glasses.
For day to day I no longer have to wear glasses. Great when going swimming. It took a bit of time to adjust to the varying focus depths, but that is the brain learning to reconstruct the sight picture. Also, when I went to get a new drivers license, had to get glasses to pass the two eye far distance vision test. Just ordered a cheap pair online and keep them in the glove compartment in case I get pulled over.
    No ragrets.

Don't be afraid. I had my right eye done may 10th. On may 11th it was 2020. That will change some. Today may 17th I had left eye done. I wish I'd done them sooner. Only bad thing is the cost
      42050 per eye

The Light Adjustable Lens procedure sounds great, except it seems that it entails MonoVision. Is this correct? I'd rather compromise/settle for [hopefully] negligible artifacts (ie., halos or starbursting) with another MultiFocal Premium Lens vs. STILL being Presyopic OR losing my depth perception from MonoVision. Can someone please confirm?

Would this be a Toric lens or a vivity lens? Or would you recommend one of these two lenses for a healthy, active 65 year old needing cataract surgery. And a person who is wearing a 9.0 prescription lens now. Thanks for your help, because this is a very tough decision for me to make.
