Things that make my inflamation worse: *Filters water during the summer (need electrolytes) *more than 1 mug coffee daily * most oils, excluding olive oil * anything premade with a long list of ingredients * mystery ingredients like triglycerides, monoglycerides, natural flavor, spices, seasonings etc. It doesnt list exactly what it is, then it's a problem for me. (Sadly RIP Lindt you tasted sooo good) * soda of any kind * sitting in chairs that put pressure on my legs, even if just a few minutes. * most salts. Table salt doesnt bother me as bad as the other added salts and IDK why at all. * chips, big time. * standing for more than 30 or so minutes * all take out, fast food, all of it. Even the healthy restaurants. * sweating. I cant wear my compression wear pants when it's over 90, because I get way too hot and it defeats the purpose. * coconut oil used in any food or as supplements * turmeric, because it aggravated my chronic anemia, and when Im in an anemic state I have even more inflamation. Turmeric blocks over 90% iron absorption! * diuretics of all kinds. * black teas Things that helped... * rainbaeu curves carries compression wear for sizes 14-28 and they're a Godsend. * compression socks that are actually pretty light weight * poweraides with a tiny bit of liquid magnesium added to get my fluids back, though too many of these causes me acidic sores in my mouth. * milk and yogurt. Whole milk greek yogurt, and 2% milk. Milk has more minerals, and hydrates more quickly. *making everything myself and adding salt only after it's cooked (excluding baked goods). * moving every 30 minutes. Limiting time on my feet to 30. If Im in the car for 30, it helps me to make a stop and move around at that time. * lymph drain massage of legs and belly. Belly is very important for me, because I have lipoedema on my belly. * resting in bed with my feet higher than my heart for 45 mins. 15 mins isnt long enough, I need extra time. I will drink a large amount of fluids and then go lay down. By bathroom time my legs are smaller. * brooks adrenaline or brooks ghost shoes. They have enough padding to reduce pain and pressure while Im doing my life. Damage to feet = more swelling. So getting a 3D shoe fitting helped a lot. * not wearing crew socks. Ankle socks only. Not the no show, because my foot will swell OVER the edge and I have a hard time removing the sock. * weekly body scrubs of my whole body with essential oils like peppermint, rose, frankincense, cedarwood and camphor * adding those same essential oils to my baby oil or lotion and putting it on my legs before bed (reduces my aching and stining sensations) * percussive massager used on all of my fatty parts about twice a week to move fluid and blood. And probably more but ya know... that's my 52 cents. Hope that helps someone.
The VA had me on 11 medications. My liver was going into failure, I weighed 187 pounds and my lower legs swelled up so much the skin split and plasma was running down my legs. I went to the VA and begged them to get me off of all these drugs. My Dr.said no. I then set up another meeting with all 4 of my Doctors. I told them, "Look at me!, you're killing me, please help me. They said, "We know best, and no we want you to follow this protocol and here's another drug that will calm your anxiety." I quit going to the VA. I quit taking all of those drugs, cold turkey, because I knew if I didn't I was going to die. I went through hell. Night Terrors, Sweats, and PGAD! Then, for 2 weeks I didn't dream at all which was the worst. I brought the outside trashcan inside cleaned out my cupboards, refrigerator and freezer and threw all the processed food away, which was everything. The only medication I needed was Armour Thyroid, I wasn't converting T4 to T3. I take 1 pill. I also added Methyl B12 and Folate, plus D3/K2. I follow Keto. 3 years later still just the Armour. I am a chubby size 6, and I feel great.
Thanks for sharing that, Judy! Kudos to you for listening to your body and taking a stand for your health. I'm glad it worked out. It's amazing when you finally start feeling better, isn't it? Keto on ❤
Where can u get the Armour thyroid can it be ordered online I’m hypothyroid , diabetic , fatty liver im only taking synthroid 100mcg numbers seem to be I. Range but still have symptoms
I found out that I have Lipedema last night and since then I couldn't sleep or eat. I went for a walk in the morning as I kept looking for it's cures and it said that walks are good. I've always tried so so many thighs and calves exercises all my life and nothing really gives me slim thighs or calves. Especially my calves. And since I've found out I couldn't stop crying it's like every other moment I'm breaking into tears. I hope they find a cure for it soon. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I hear you! Its been a week and a half for me and only now i can have a reasonable solution focused mind. It brought me down so low that I just couldn’t see the light and hope. I hope you find strength and ability to block out all those hurtful moments about your weight. I was more sad when I realised how harsh it used to be to my sel.
Thanks for watching A Hughes! I'm glad the channel is helpful. So many of us have struggled with body image! Honestly, I think it might be one of the most difficult parts of this diagnosis. Have you seen my video about mental health? ruclips.net/video/ZjpFJQWxcV4/видео.html 💕
@@rachelsouth69 I'm not sure if you meant me or the originally commenter, but feel free to shoot me a message through my website sturdywoman.com/pages/contact 💗
I'm very thin but had bad feet/ankles/lower legs swelling for 2-3 years until I discovered it was a vitamin D deficiency. I now take 5,000+ IUs of D a day and it's gone.
That's interesting, Atheria PsychicGal! Dr. Herbst recommends D both for improving immune function and reducing inflammation lipedemaitalia.info/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/medicine-and-supplement-for-people-with-lipedema-and-DD-Herbst.pdf So glad you are feeling better! 💖
some things that helped me...was herbs like garlic and tea from Mullein leafs....stopped drinking coffee and got.more active. Dranks lots of water...some of it was alkaline.Yay....ankles are back❤
After 13 years of being misdiagnosed with venous inefficiency, I finally got (officially) diagnosed with lymphoedema. Mine flairs when my protein drops. At my absolute worst, my protein was 3.8 (normal is 6-8) I can always tell when I haven't been focusing on protien by the heaviness, pain, and tightness.
Sugar is the worst for me. I also don't eat Lactose but am able to have a small amount of some lactose free dairy each week. By small, I mean very small. I have cut out fried foods to just 1 serving a week. That has been a tremendous help for my joint pain. During the summer my swelling is much worse. I try to swim every day and I walk or ride my bike. The bike rides have helped the most during summer months , since the swelling is worse. I'm a very slim person so when the lipedema started, it was very obvious. The diet doesn't make it completely go away but it definitely helps with the joint pain. My MRI's showed so much inflammation. It's been my goal in life to try to get the inflammation down as much as possible. I love these videos because it's so nice to hear what helps people. You just never know if it will be the key to helping someone else.
@@suekamens171 My orthopedic doctor had ordered an MRI because I had so much hip pain. The MRI showed tons of inflammation in my abdomen, right hip and thigh.
One thing I don't hear a lot is how painful this condition is! 😭 My legs don't even bend anymore. Laying down yes, but if standing I can't squat at all! I'm swollen from mid-thigh down. When out shopping, by the time I'm leaving a second store I can barely get to the car. Its like moving through waist deep water (or more like mud). Im 55 with MS and Fibromyalgia, prediabetic... aren't they bad enough?? No, apparently not, I had to develop Lipedema too. 😞 I've lost 8 lbs in 3 weeks on keto, so that helps. Desperate to fix this
I am just like you. I can hardly shop anymore because of my legs feeling heavy and like concrete! The pain is horrible! I can barely bend my knees too. Most people don't have a clue!😢
I hear you - I already have other mental, physical, and life challenges. Apparently that's not ENOUGH, because now I have lymphedema and lipodema and probably venous insufficiency. I'm overwhelmed by the self-care I already have to do, let alone the new things taht are coming with these new diagnoses. Just living in a state of depression for the past month or so since my diagnosis.
So glad I've found your channel. I've just listen to a famous keto Dr on yt and he had a guest on tonight on a live, said that on top of getting off those inflammatory foods is testing for low vit K. I'm going to go back to just meat and slowly work in other foods slowly. I only eat once a day so at least I've got the intermittent fasting down to pat. 😂 I reckon I'm ⅛ water at this point but it's probably the dairy. I've been putting it off but I'm finally so fed up of hiding my legs that I'm just going to go for it.
Summer time is the worst. I'd love to wear shorter skirts/shorts but don't :( I went to the doctor for a mole removal and he exclaimed at my puffy ankles/legs and proceeded to measure them and prescribe diuretics. I didn't ask him his opinion on my legs, I just wanted a mole removed
Be thankful that your doctor is observant and proactive. I can't get my doctor to pay attention and do the doctor things I want him to do. Looking for a new doctor.
I feel my best when my diet is mainly protein and veg, Its something I experienced before I got diagnosed with Lipedema. When I was on that diet my body was just happy. I found it really hard to maintain though being from a country where carbs are king and my body started swelling up again, I had lost 30KG they shot right up again and I was really depressed about it because I was just eating "normal" foods. Now it all makes sense - back on the veg and protein diet. Still a long way to go but I want to do the right thing for my body, especially now that I know better.
I'm so glad you are learning what works for your body, Elise! It's amazing what a difference it makes when you eat whole foods rather than all the processed stuff they throw at us. Keep at it! It takes more work but is worth it when you start feeling better (which it sounds like you know!) ☺
If eating carnivore, choose only grass fed, chemical free, as many animals in our farming system are fed items that cause the animals to gain weight quickly thru fat growth to get them to the market sooner, your body may be sensitive to these chemicals/foods that farm animals are fed.
When i was finally diagnosed correctly, twenty years of being told i had lymphoedema and was fat, I broke down and cried because i finally knew why my legs were so large. For me compression garments have helped but the pain can be appalling sometimes, especially when stressed.
This is so interesting. I've had inflamed joints for the last 2 years after 'trying' a horse feed pellet which had rumensin in it. The pain has been horrendous and ongoing ...and now I have massive legs (in comparison to how my legs always have been in the 57 years on earth). Pain, inflammation definitely preceded the leg growth.
Thank you for this video. A lot of my chronic lower leg and ankle swelling has been greatly improved by low carb eating. I follow Dr.Berg dietary recommendations. I take 5-10,000 units of Vitamin D daily. Dr.Berg said high carb dietary intake causes the carbohydrates to bind with water and this creates swelling. I lost 35-40 pounds of body weight since beginning low carb eating. I struggled with tired, heavy and swollen legs for many years until going low carb. I still have cold skin sensitivity in my lower body. I am 60 years old and worked as a nurse for years. Standing on my feet for a shift of nursing work was very difficult for me. The soreness was always there. I did not know I had lipedema before watching RUclips videos and doctors would tell me l needed to lose weight. Even when I was considered a normal weight I still had problems with swelling and tired legs. The swelling was worse around the time of my menstrual periods.
I'm on keto and one thing I've noticed that causes inflammation is protein isolates. So no more protein powders, and it also seems to be in a lot of processed keto foods. Bye bye processed foods! 😊
Hi Artbug! Bye bye processed foods is right 😆 When I was starting on keto I tried them and noticed the artificial sweeteners were probably part of the problem. Perfect Keto makes a great, clean alternative if you can handle dairy amzn.to/3oEV5ts
@Sturdy Woman thanks for that! And yes, dairy is fine 🙂 Interesting story, a friend of mine who couldn't eat dairy (and therefore hesitant to try keto) no longer has any bad reactions to dairy after being keto now for over a year!
@@sarcasticcat4982 collagen isn't dairy! The one I use has a little bit of stevia but it's really clean amzn.to/3NuaqqX Collagen can be really helpful since lipedema is a loose connective tissue disorder. 💗
@@Artbug It's certainly possible! Thanks for sharing that. I've noticed changes in my reactions over time, but unfortunately in my case dairy is still making me swell. I tried 😆
When i was a few decades earlier I would eat a mcdonalds cheese burger on the run but when ever i ate there and had a cheese burger I would get a stomach ache. I was then misdiagnosed with crohns disease twice! I read about a little probiotic pill that began my fermentation life. I am one with my gut bacteria and i dont eat anything that will change the ratio. Haven't had a problem in about 20 years but I still have mild lipedema I believe and will mention this to my doctor when i see her next month. Thanks!
What I’ve recently figured out, which intellectually I’ve always known but now at age 53 I’m really feeling it and I have recently been diagnosed with mixed lipidema, is how important it is to stay away from sugary stuff!!! I went on a binge last night where I ate some ice cream and chocolate, this morning my legs are swelling up, it’s terrible. I do NOT want to get diabetes on top of this.
@lynnmarieanderson1744 be gentle with yourself. Perfection isn't the goal, just consistency and new habits. You got this! On diabetes specifically, though, lipedema patients have been reported as having lowered than usual rates of diabetes. It's that interesting?! They don't understand why, but even with the higher body weight we get it less often. You can read more about that in an article called "Lipedema: friend and foe": www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5935449/ Sending big hugs
I fast most days 16 hours. I also have incorporated grounding. I purchase organic 100% Cotten grounding sheets. Plus get outside and stand in the grass bear footed. Huge changes I just started to do wearing castor oil packs at bed time. I’m finding all is helping to move me in the healing state for my body.
@debracornelius9925 that's really interested! I've heard other patients talk about grounds but have never intentionally tried it myself (although I do sometimes long for a barefooted walk in the grass!) I'll have to look into that and castor oil. So glad you are finding things that help!
@@sturdywomanthe grounding thing: I’m thinking it has to do with mitochondrial activity. Google metabolism, mitochondrial activity and Lipoedema. The castor oil thing is something that helps me with pain management. I put it onto my sore lymph nodes (think ankles, knees and jaw) and it seems to soothe the fibrotic hardness.
Love, love , love your way of encouragement and sharing your thoughts and knowledge with us. Keep inspiring and doing you well! I have recently grown in my self care. My way of eating and moving. I eat primarily carnivore and I swim several days a week. I am 60 years young and have decided that I want to explore more in this life I have been given. I have let lipoedema have too much of me. Peace and Sturdiness of mind is very important in this walk we have. I have noticed that my inflammation is way down and I believe carnivore has helped that immensely. I wear compression when I know I can’t swim that day. Swimming really gets my lymphatic system working. I do MLD while in the pool, and in the evening before bed. Thank you again for all the encouragement.
It sounds like you have a great routine in place, Ann! I know a lot of women who do well on carnivore and it sounds like you are one of them. Swimming is magic, isn't it? Keep up the good work and keep getting out to explore this beautiful world 💕
I am like you, where I have to cut out a lot more foods than carbs. My doctor had me do a low sulfur detox last year, for which is extremely limited to iceberg salad and potatoes, but all my pain and inflammation went away. I still didn't lose weight, as I think that will take more dedication for a longer period, but I felt better for about 2-3 months, but I then traveled to France and ate french food!! I do better when I cut out carbs, but I think I also need to cut back on dairy and eggs, and already don't eat meat. It is just so hard to have such a limiting diet. My downfall is honey. I love making a tea latte with honey in the morning, but I'm trying to cut it out now and and also do intermittent fasting, but being deprived causes me stress too, so it feels like a double edged sword. Definitely stressed about self care. It is hard work, and then I feel like my body feels abandoned. I try to think of my body as my inner child, so that I don't abandon her.
Hear you on SO many levels.... My allergies go way beyond food - spring and fall pollens, dust, mold, etc. I get migraines from being outside or too warm. I have so many sensitivities I can't even keep track. It's impossible to avoid all the foods that I'm reactive to. I was taking an allergy serum, which made a HUGE difference in the migraines but I didn't notice any other effect so I stopped them. I'm going to go get retested (TORTURE!!!!) and then go back to the serums and see if I get any relief. The self-care involved in all of my issues is completely overwhelming. And feeling deprived is definitely a source of stress for me. It's just... a LOT.
Love from India! I'm 25 and I suspect I have lipedema. I have started taking my health seriously this year and working out regularly but had weird pain and bruising every now and then that I couldn't explain. Even when I was skinnier I had large calves and ankles. Even though I have lost some weight now they refused to go down in size. My mother had them too so I just thought it was hereditary. But I spoke about this to my parents recently and they told me how they suspect my mom has a severe case of lipedema ( she has severe swelling and chronic pain, stubborn lower body fat) and it could couple be possible I have it too. I don't have swelling like she does but most other symptoms match. So I am here to find out how to take care of myself better and not make it worse. As you have mentioned in other videos most doctors were unaware of lipedema and failed to diagnose her. So here I am trying to gather information from the internet. You are doing good work!
Whenever I have a hormonal disturbance (ie drs/pharmacy is slow to refill my prescriptions for thyroid, etc.) seems to make my lipidemia and swelling worse.
Rebekah, I always love your videos. You are so lovely and down to earth, always make me feel not alone. I know I have serious inflammation throughout my whole body. We just took a CRP test (measures inflammation) and my results are not mild or moderate, they're at the level that warrants immediate concern. Now we have to figure out what is causing so much inflammation, which can be a whole host of things, and get it down. Started Keto 3 weeks ago, I'm committed! Thank you for these generous videos, I watch them all....
Hi Barb! I'm glad to hear you are continuing to find puzzle pieces and that keto is still going well. I hope it continues to help and you keep finding answers. Getting that inflammation down will probably make you feel like a new woman! Keep us posted 💕
I've been the same since a horrible bout with Covid-19 way back at the beginning of the Pandemic causing excruciating joint pain, especially in my knees, legs and back, weirdly all the places that were the most painful during Covid.I am still suffering with long term effects from it.I also suspect from alot of investigating that I have Lipedema as well.
@@LisaLisa-mx3hq at FDRS in April they presented several case studies of women developing Dercum's (another fat disorder) after COVID infection. They haven't posted the session yet, but it should go live on the FDRS RUclips channel within the next few months. Might be interesting to you! Hope you are feeling a little better these days ❤
Hello Rebekah, thank you for this latest upload.. My inflammatory swelling increases definitely when I am stressed but I also have Osteoarthritis In my knees so that causes fluid in knees but I highly recommend drinking 6-8g glasses of water a day, wearing compression and walking also if you can keep a food diary for two weeks and observe your body 🤗💋.. I don't do Keto or any diets, just eat Plenty vegetables and fruits and eat mainly chicken and make sure drink water and exercise. Have a fabulous week ahead ❤🤗💋
Hi Kam! A food journal is such a good tip and really important when trying to pin point the cause of symptoms. It sounds like you are tuned into your body and have figured out what works 🤗 And you're reminding me (as usual) to refill my water! Glad you are doing so well ❤❤
Try Carnivore, not Keto, for at least 4 weeks - then slowly add in other foods, one at a time, to figure out which foods are causing the inflammation. Dairy, eggs, and nuts are inflammatory for SOME people but not all. Animals have claws and teeth to keep us from eating them, but there is nothing in the meat to cause inflammation. Plants, on the other hand, keep us from eating them with chemical compounds they produce that cause us inflammation. MOST people inflame when they eat GRAINS, which are ALL sprayed with Glyphosate to desiccate (dry) them before/after harvest. And it can be the glyphosate that is causing the issue. An animal like a cow with several stomachs, is better able to process the inflammatory compounds and the meat does not have as much glyphosate. (Read Toxic Legacy by Stephanie Seneff). Anyway, that's my 2 cents.
Thanks for sharing @AnnieCarvalho. I've been doing some reading about oxalates recently and you are right that some plants can also cause inflammation. At the end of the day, it's about finding the foods that work best for your body, right? You are spot on the dairy, eggs, and nuts are just fine for some people and I'd hate for anyone to cut them out unnecessarily because... yum! 🤣 Hope you are finding some delicious things that also keep you feeling good ❤❤
The animals you eat actually consume far many more plants/grains than we do. All that stuff you think you’re avoiding is actually in their flesh. A well-balanced vegan diet is best if you’re looking to eliminate inflammation🌱✌️
@BoopMeHard There is new research that says the exact opposite. Beef has multiple stomachs that get rid of toxins. Go to RUclips and check out Dr Ben Bikman (insulin iq), Dr Ken Berry, Dr Anthony Chaffee, Dr Lisa Weideman (Carnivore doctor), Carnivore Squad, etc. There have been many new studies that show Carnivore is healthy. Siobhan Huggins is another good one who tests everything.
So glad I found you. Most doctors don't know much about edema. I have slow developing edema from my own self diagnosis. No they don't like that at all. My weight fluctuates every day. I don't want to move much but I have to. Starting to rebound and vibration plate arriving next week. Thanks Kim
@kimsmith3246 I'm sorry to hear you are struggling with doctors - you certainly aren't alone there! Vibration and rebounding are great options to gently get things moving. I hope they provide relief! Have you looked into compression at all? Mine started providing relief almost immediately and I wear compression leggings everyday. I’m sure you’ve looked into this but look into acupuncture for alpha-gal! It actually has really positive results. I ordered ear seeds and have been wearing them for 2.5 months and have trialed some beef the other day and tolerated it. I have alpha-gal from Lyme.
I think i may have lipedema but I'm not sure....i don't have pain or anything but cannot lose weight on my lower half no matter what i do..... And work out 5 days a week and my legs never look toned.... I'm getting really fed up 😔
My situation exactly. I'm very grateful that I have no pain, but that is due to me eating only 100% grassfed beef and increasing minerals. I just began wearing compression leggings. Taking it a step at a time.
Oh darn I wish I could have attended that conference. I'm in ATL and have both lipedema + stage 2 lymphedema. I just bought a book about inflammation as I also have rosacea and know its tied to inflammation as well. Its time to do something about the excess heat and water in my body
Hi Shine baby shine! The good news is that the entire conference was recorded and will be posted on the FDRS channel for anyone to watch once they finish post-production. So be patient - it's coming 😊 Let us know what you learn about inflammation. The amount of havoc it can cause is... impressive? Ha! ❤

I had whole genome scanning done and analyzing my data against few sites i found out i am sensitive to MANY things INCLUDING salicylates which is known to cause swelling and lot of symptoms quite familiar to me :o . So now i do keto with ONLY safe or relatively safe vegies.
@@donnagroven3345 Well you want to first google symptoms of salicylate sensitivity. Is that something that sounds familiar? Then figure out how likely it is. The strongest source is aspirin because thats basically acetylsalicyc acid. How do you feel when taking it? Do you feel like thats something that agrees with you or not? Salicylates in general are in lot of plants but it differs how much so you would then avoid strongest sources.
Oh wow I just got goose bumps ..... I had been wondering about the pain meds lately...ok I'm def looking further into this I'd honestly never heard of such a thing before. I'm ever so grateful to stumble upon your testimony 🙏 bless you!
Thank you for this information. I haven’t been diagnosed yet but I have all of the symptoms of Lipedema with lots of swelling and joint pain. Noticed my joint pain almost completely goes away when I stick with Keto. I lost 50 lbs over the past year but I am still 40 lbs away from my official goal weight and my body weight has plateaued and won’t move at all the last 5 months even though I am exercising and sticking to drastic measures to change it. It’s really defeating and taking a toll on me mentally making me depressed why my body can’t even get fit or normal looking. I feel nodules in my lower belly too is that even normal or can happen? I lost 50 lbs but feel like my body doesn’t look that different. When I was pregnant that’s when it all started for me and I swelled up so much that my baby didn’t grow. Your channel is really helpful. I really hope there is hope for me to get past this plateau and get to my goal weight. I literally can starve myself for weeks and see no changes on the scale.
Never starve yourself. You're only sending your body into storage mode so your body will hold on to regular fat and the lipodema swelling. Focus on stress relief, nutrition and what triggers your lipedema. Focus on walking and strength training and hydration. Get a great doctor that can help you control your condition. Be proactiv and don't let this condition destroy your mental health....You got this 👌
$150 and $250 for OTC allergy tests?? OMG...who can afford that?? Try to get these done thru an allergist if you've got coverage. Who's got the $$ for that?? Not me.
Intense workouts seem to make me feel like crap. Sore and crippled. They aren’t really that intense…like a Pilates class with women over 60. Why do I feel 80yo for 3 days after?!?!?
Right? I've been there @LightXpressions. So many people will say it's impossible but the people watching this channel get it! I just had mine tested and the reading is THROUGH THE ROOF! Results came into my inbox yesterday, makes it sound like I'm a walking time bomb for a heart attack or stroke. Not sure how we're going to treat yet... but we had the same curiosity!
This is a great question, Carla! Honestly, I don't remember them saying a lot but it was sort of like trying to drink from a fire hose, so I sure could have missed something. I have read that Dr. Herbst tests C reactive protein levels when people come in for lipedema treatment to understand their inflammation levels (lipedemaandme.substack.com/p/part-2-you-asked-and-dr-herbst-answered). In trying to find more on your question I also stumbled across this slide deck with a treasure chest of all sorts of information, including some lab results on their sample population and recommendations for reducing inflammation www.slideshare.net/physmedi/lipedema-fatty-tissue-deposition-syndrome
@pattyd3112 I haven't but I'm going to make one soon because I recently found out I have two copies of MTHFR! I've switched up my supplements as a result. Stay tuned for that
Thank you. Food, shoes, barefoot, clothes, sitting/not sitting...it seems everything or anything can flare. I just pray, elevate where & when I can. I try not to stress. Things bother me, but I table most of it into a I can't change that file & move on.
I love your attitude @peggyhall5363! Stress is a big one for me and I can tell it is bad for my swelling. "Pray and elevate" I want that on a coffee cup 😆 ❤
Well, there is research that Medformin can be used to treat lipedema. My doc actually wants to put me on it, and I am not diabetic; so I wonder if I really should take it, any advice?
I’m on Metformin for longevity - look it up, it’s used off-label for longevity. I will say it helps my swelling (I’m a small person so any swelling is REALLY obvious when it happens) but I dealt with weeks & weeks of nausea when I started the med. Take it and push through!😊
Is any of this related to soldium? Also h2o? I dont think im with the right doc. They are focused on the wrong yhings im afraid 😢.... How is you all bp? I really think i have this can it be brought on by trauma from near death and having huge surgery to save my life removing tons of tumors and full hysterectomy? Or am i way out in left field? I have so much pain in my hips and legs when I sleep. I've been on Carnivore BBB&E for 3 months and my pain is so much better during the day. I have lost 29 pounds and can walk again. I am only on 1 medication, now. I just got measured for compression garment, use vibration plate, rebounder and massage. Wish i had known all this when I was young.
I really need some encouragement on the carnivore diet I was really doing well then I started back eating a lot of carbs. I know for a FACT that this diet is a game changer.
Getting any lymghnodes removed can make swelling worse. I had surgery & didn't get any lymghnodes taken out & my ankles were really swollen. I had to have my doctor put me on a diarectic to reduce my swelling. Then I found out my mother had lipadema. I started exercising so I can lose weight my surgery made gain more weight.
Thank you thank you thank you doctors can't figure out what's wrong emphysema it's just happening in my arms and my lower abdomen legs doctors couldn't seem to figure it out but it seems It's all this and stress and I also noticed when I eat certain foods my face gets all itchy add jawline area thank you so much finally I'm not the only one that's going through something like this my mom passed away a year ago but she suffered from this she probably never knew she even had it
my main guess for the major culprit is VEGETABLE SEED OILS and HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP. Stay away from all processed food. Use only animal fat. Reduce carbs. Stay away from food 12-16 hours in a day. I am seeing results by doing all this.
@SheriDin that's great advice! Both venetable seed oils and high fructose corn syrup have been show to be inflammatory for most people. So glad you are seeing results and getting relief
Processed foods are bad for everyone, so that should be the first thing to go... Nothing wrong with complex carbs from fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
My pain mgnt Dr doesn't understand this pain no one does i go from flaming burning to needles stabbing me and i can't get away from it ... If anyone has any suggestions ... I'm willing to try anything i can't take any INSAIDS and inn on blood thinners ... I found straight ice works temporarily ... (Recently diagnosed a month ago) i do have wraps and pumps which hurt more. While listening to this i am addicted to sugar ... Hmmmmm
Hi Ruthann! If you are looking to understand food sensitivities, I would recommend an allergist. If you are new to lipedema and looking for a doctor, a vein specialist (who hopefully also understand lymphatic disorders) is most likely to be helpful. HI Rebeka i have a disability on top lipo -lymphedema i am unable to move a lot what do you suggest could help me? I am in a wheelchair and can't do a lot of walking.
No it is absolutely NOT healthy to sustain a state of ketosis long term. Going off keto is what triggered my lymphedema, according to doctors. But I HAD to go off of keto because my labs were terrible, I was nearly in kidney & liver failure after 10 years of strict keto. Yeah. Then my body didn’t know what to do with carbs but I HAD to eat them to get out of ketosis, and boom - a sh*tstorm of inflammation & stress led to type II lymphedema. Go figure. Be safe out there, kids. Keto is a trap. Eat Whole Foods, yes, but avoid keeping yourself in ketosis for too long!
I just read that .....Fish: tuna, wild salmon, mackerel, herring, sardines, anchovies, and other seafood high in omega-3 unsaturated fats aren't to be eaten that frequently for lipedema ? Same for .... Eggs including yolks: preferably organic, pastured or free-range. Is that so ? I thought that fish (Keto diet) was very good for this disease. Now I am really confused !!!
Hi Cherry! That's interesting. Where did you read that? Everything I have heard is that Omega-3s are anti-inflammatory. In fact, I take some everyday! I wonder if they are referring to the risk of heavy metals if you don't get clean ones? Unfortunately, there hasn't been a lot of good research on the nutritional side so there's a lot of conflicting information out there. At the end of the day, trust your body and what makes it feel good. ❤
I have heard that breaking down protein is an issue with this disease. The protein gets loaded into the fat cells and packs them hard. I get sicker than a dog on keto, I had to quit. I can only do vegetables and fruits. I do a lot of juicing and take potassium compound salts. It's working to bring the swelling down but it's a hell of a diet to be on.
@@sarcasticcat4982 Definitely listen to your body - it will tell you what's working. It sounds like you're starting to feel better. Keep at it and hopefully you'll be able to find some foods to enjoy. It took some time, but I started to learn to get enjoyment out of more non-food things than in the past. For example, on my fasting days I like to do something nice for myself like relax with a sheet mask while I put my feet up. It sounds silly but it works for me ❤
@@sarcasticcat4982 I was going to say Keto is full of protein, right ? I know that lipedema fat has lots of protein in it. What you said makes sense. Interesting how some diets can work on some people some just don’t especially when it comes to lipoedema :(
@MITZI Du Plessis I'm sorry to hear that. 😞 I know it can be rough. I've had Lymphedema or was diagnosed with it in 2005. It's mainly in my legs, but it's also all over my body. My mother had Lipedema and not Lymphedema, so I was wondering. I've lost over 240 lbs but still have a lot to lose, and I seem at a standstill. I'm diabetic as well and have constant Afib and CHF. So I'm wondering if the needs that are supposedly helping me, are hurting me on other ways. @roxannecortez2455 it depends on your symptoms and we're all different. For me, walking is great because it helps move the fluid out of my legs. @YaYaPaBla I am really sad to hear that. There is a real lack of information, which is part of what encouraged me to start the channel. Thank you for being here and for sharing
Keto doesn't work for me. Dairy is the worst for my body and it was the cause for 30 years of chronic respiratory agony. I've been free from that for 15 years since switching to plantbased and my legs drain much better.
A real man loves the whole person, your heart and mind, first of all. Look for someone like that. If all he sees is your body, you should run! A person's body naturally changes through life. Anyone with maturity understands that. Also, accidents, disabilities and chronic health conditions are a part of life. Real, honest people know that and learn to adapt. Lifelong relationships do, too. I've been married to the same person for 40 years and all of them with chronic health conditions. However, you need to learn to be happy being by yourself. If you can't be happy being single, you'll never be happy attached, either. You may never find that "special someone" and you don't want to spend the rest of your life being sad and alone.
@@bonniek91 my husband has been so incredibly supportive over our almost 32 years of marriage. One chronic health condition after another, both mental and physical. He accepts me more than I accept myself. I'm trying... but it's SO hard as I gain weight. I weigh more now than I did at the end of my second (and last) pregnancy, and there's no baby to drop 30 pounds from delivering. I've never had success dieting so it's hard to get motivated to take MORE food out of my diet (already gluten free and very dairy limited, and I try to avoid white sugar... except for dark chocolate. That's one guilty pleasure I can't give up.)
@zsOFFesz they should definitely be paired with an elimination diet, but it can be a helpful way to start creating a short list of things to experiment with
Things that make my inflamation worse:
*Filters water during the summer (need electrolytes)
*more than 1 mug coffee daily
* most oils, excluding olive oil
* anything premade with a long list of ingredients
* mystery ingredients like triglycerides, monoglycerides, natural flavor, spices, seasonings etc. It doesnt list exactly what it is, then it's a problem for me. (Sadly RIP Lindt you tasted sooo good)
* soda of any kind
* sitting in chairs that put pressure on my legs, even if just a few minutes.
* most salts. Table salt doesnt bother me as bad as the other added salts and IDK why at all.
* chips, big time.
* standing for more than 30 or so minutes
* all take out, fast food, all of it. Even the healthy restaurants.
* sweating. I cant wear my compression wear pants when it's over 90, because I get way too hot and it defeats the purpose.
* coconut oil used in any food or as supplements
* turmeric, because it aggravated my chronic anemia, and when Im in an anemic state I have even more inflamation. Turmeric blocks over 90% iron absorption!
* diuretics of all kinds.
* black teas
Things that helped...
* rainbaeu curves carries compression wear for sizes 14-28 and they're a Godsend.
* compression socks that are actually pretty light weight
* poweraides with a tiny bit of liquid magnesium added to get my fluids back, though too many of these causes me acidic sores in my mouth.
* weekly body scrubs of my whole body with essential oils like peppermint, rose, frankincense, cedarwood and camphor
* adding those same essential oils to my baby oil or lotion and putting it on my legs before bed (reduces my aching and stining sensations)
* percussive massager used on all of my fatty parts about twice a week to move fluid and blood.
They said, "We know best, and no we want you to follow this protocol and here's another drug that will calm your anxiety."
I quit going to the VA.

Hi there! What do you mean by protein? More meats?
@@xirego7067 My lab work showed a pattern of too low protein levels. So, yes, more meat, eggs, cheese, protein powder, protein shakes, etc...
Yes more carb and less protein leads to swelling..
What kind of MRI did you get and who prescribed them for you?

One thing I don't hear a lot is how painful this condition is! 😭 My legs don't even bend anymore. Laying down yes, but if standing I can't squat at all! I'm swollen from mid-thigh down. When out shopping, by the time I'm leaving a second store I can barely get to the car. Its like moving through waist deep water (or more like mud). Im 55 with MS and Fibromyalgia, prediabetic... aren't they bad enough?? No, apparently not, I had to develop Lipedema too. 😞
I've lost 8 lbs in 3 weeks on keto, so that helps. Desperate to fix this
I am just like you. I can hardly shop anymore because of my legs feeling heavy and like concrete! The pain is horrible! I can barely bend my knees too. Most people don't have a clue!😢
ILymphatic massage helps, less salt, Aleve & I’ve read liposuction also helps reduce the pain.

I'm at my whits end! I'm getting tested as we speak for lipedema. I'm so sick of not being able to wear shorts and being ashamed of my legs

Fasting reduces inflammation and it helps your body dispose of bad cells faster. Not eating might just work!
It will not help. My mom hat cancer. She was just skin and bones in the end. But her lipedema in her legs was still there. Broad and fat.😢
@@truffaut650truffaut6 wearing compressions and massages like MLD are so important to manage it. It's not just about what a person eats
Keep at it! It takes more work but is worth it when you start feeling better (which it sounds like you know!) ☺
agreed. Very hard to find restaurants with keto food in my country
I keep listening to some of these over and over again…

I have recently grown in my self care. My way of eating and moving. I eat primarily carnivore and I swim several days a week. Thank you again for all the encouragement.

Thank you for this channel ..very important that this kind of information gets out there...
How do you suggest getting the swelling down when its at its worse..... Im still learning 🙏🙏🙏
Glad you are doing so well ❤❤
@@sturdywoman your my inspiration x I am so happy to see your channel grow with new subscribers, well done 👏 🙌 👏 ❤️ 😘
@@sturdywomanfor me...I literally can only eat meat and fruit. Anything else swells me up into utter inflammatory hell.
Sally K Norton has the scoop on oxalates in vegetables. She just wrote a book called, TOXIC FOODS.
I do have some lymphedema, I am a type one diabetic and I noticed that lymph becomes worse when I indulge in high-carb, including sugar

What is a vibration plate?
Thank you for sh aring I got cancer 1yr ago after radiation my leg started swelling doctors checked all my organs and all good now that i have to do a therapy for my feet for 6 weeks
Sugar is the number one thing that causes the worst inflammatory response. I just found you channel and am finding it very helpful.
I was amazed how different I felt when I detoxed from sugar, @pamelasmithson4303! A few months back I had a dessert for the first time in years while on a work trip and literally felt high 🤣 Thank you for watching - I'm so glad to hear the information is helpful ❤❤
That's why I like winter.
I have lipedema with alpha gal. I can’t eat mammal meats or by products. Any grain is also a trigger for me
That is terrible.. My oldest son has Alpha Gal..
I’m sure you’ve looked into this but look into acupuncture for alpha-gal! It actually has really positive results. I ordered ear seeds and have been wearing them for 2.5 months and have trialed some beef the other day and tolerated it. I have alpha-gal from Lyme.
Sugar and salt help alot to expand everything.

Can you give examples? Maybe that's my problem
Have you ever tried manual lymphatic massage?
Well done on your great achievement. Mediterranean diet is also highly recommended for lipidema.
Never starve yourself. You're only sending your body into storage mode so your body will hold on to regular fat and the lipodema swelling. Focus on stress relief, nutrition and what triggers your lipedema. Focus on walking and strength training and hydration. Get a great doctor that can help you control your condition. Be proactiv and don't let this condition destroy your mental health....You got this 👌
Try starting with the Whole30 anti-inflammatory diet for 30 days to help target what inflames you
$150 and $250 for OTC allergy tests?? OMG...who can afford that?? Try to get these done thru an allergist if you've got coverage. Who's got the $$ for that?? Not me.
Intense workouts seem to make me feel like crap. Sore and crippled. They aren’t really that intense…like a Pilates class with women over 60. Why do I feel 80yo for 3 days after?!?!?
Can one take a blood test to see if one is allergic to some foods.

Curious. Did anyone talk about "C Reactive Protein" levels? I am wondering if there is a lipedema link or not.
I just had mine tested and the reading is THROUGH THE ROOF! Results came into my inbox yesterday, makes it sound like I'm a walking time bomb for a heart attack or stroke. Not sure how we're going to treat yet... but we had the same curiosity!
I was wondering the same.. And if they talked about what decreases inflammation besides avoiding foods you are sensitive too..
Well, there is research that Medformin can be used to treat lipedema. My doc actually wants to put me on it, and I am not diabetic; so I wonder if I really should take it, any advice?
Yes. Do it. It has helped alleviate some of my lipedema symptoms. .
I’m on Metformin for longevity - look it up, it’s used off-label for longevity. I will say it helps my swelling (I’m a small person so any swelling is REALLY obvious when it happens) but I dealt with weeks & weeks of nausea when I started the med. Take it and push through!😊

What do you do on the rebounder?
Is that for real? I've developed lymphoma about a year ago. Major stress..But I'm a breast cancer survivor. Some lymph node's removed

Please, I would like to know if hyaluronic acid supplements worsen lipedema ?
my main guess for the major culprit is VEGETABLE SEED OILS and HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP.
Lymphedemap- swelling caused by a buildup of lymph fluid in the body between the skin and muscle
But is it healthy LONG TERM to be on a keto diet/lifestyle??? I heard it's not
No it is absolutely NOT healthy to sustain a state of ketosis long term.
@@sturdywoman Got it from what I considered a trustworthy website . This is why I thought to mention it on here.
I have heard that breaking down protein is an issue with this disease. The protein gets loaded into the fat cells and packs them hard.
