The only three things that keep it in check is i eat once a day and keep it keto with regular daily excercise. Alcohol is the worst thing i can do to myself.
Hi @jartotable! Yes, one meal a day (OMAD) and other intermittent fasting protocols can be really helpful, especially once you get keto adapted. So glad you have found something that is working for you ♥
Same for me. I started in August with keto and only found out a month ago that I have lipedema. My doc fat shamed me a d told me to take diet pills. Which thankfully idid t take. I have been in the emergency services in hospital few times for my swollen legs, they didn't know what was wrong with me, but just wanted to give me Cortison. I refused. Today I ha e lost 3 sizes on the keto. My legs still swell but I have bought some compression leggins and massage my legs almost every night. just celebrated my 5th keto-versary this month! lost 110 pounds over 2 years - slower than most and on purpose to really just make 1 change at a time and make it a habbit before changing something else. Then I maintained for almost 3 years, and 2 months ago I stopped dairy and almond flour and lost 15 more pounds! crazy! there are so many versions of keto and so many options and more recipes available than you will ever have time to try! my goal was to try 1 new recipe per week. keeps it interesting and adventurous! keto has given me freedom from 27 health issues! including type 2 diabetes and low thyroid! I'm never hungry and never have cravings because I actually give my body the nourishment it needs, all while out-eating the men in my house! haha! I just can't imagine ever going back to my old life! keto for life!❤🎉
@alanacreates bravo! You are a year ahead of me. It's great to hear that you found something that worked and took the time to make it sustainable. The mindset piece is so critical - it isn't a diet but a lifestyle! Keep up the amazing work
@jolynn8675 Truthfully, I don't count. I did for a few weeks ar the very beginning just to get bearings on general ballpark quantity/serving sizes and to be able to evaluate the info on packaged foods, with the goal of around 20 net carbs per day... then based on that just kind of stuck with yes foods and no foods. so I likely fluctuate between 10 and 30 net grams per day??
@sturdywoman a big way to keep it sustainable for me is to try one new recipe each week. some are great and some are flops... but it is always different and keeps things interesting. 5 years later and there are still thousands of recipes out there I haven't tried yet! Or I might look at old fav recipes and try substitutes to ketofy it!
I tried keto. I hated it and didn’t lose any weight. I do better with losing weight by low calories. I never knew there was a diagnosis for my tender cellulite arms and legs. My insurance doesn’t cover anything for diet/weight loss but I’m going to talk to my dr about lipedema. Thanks for info!
Rebekah, I think that you are going to get many responses after this video. If you haven't checked into Dr Ken Berry (carnivore) and Dr Eric Westman (keto), I suggest that you do because they are very knowledgeable and supportive.
@horse__power7891 you are right 😆 I definitely agree Dr. Ken Berry and Dr. Eric Westman have wonderful videos. I'm also a fan of Dr. Jason Fung and Dr. Boz for intermittent fasting ❤
thank you for sharing this. I’ve been on keto for 4 years, currently carnivore and feel great. I started keto to lose weight and prevent diabetes. I’ve just figured out I probably have Lipoedema but not diagnosed. I’m a 62 yo nurse and always wondered about my strange adipose disposition that doesn’t go away, my sensitivity to pain and other symptoms. It makes sense now. Keto has helped a lot, but my adipose is still resistant in places.
@@amonterov mine also. Plus I’ve got flaps on my hips. It’s a relief to see I’m not alone and empowering also, but a sadness also. I always knew there was something going on with me.
Me too. I’m a retired RN. I’m 74. Was 72 when I realized that I have had signs of Lipedema since puberty. Psychologically, at age 72, it was a tremendous relief to me to find out why I have been this body type for over 50 years. I’ve been keto since 2019. I first heard about Lipedema when RUclips put a video in my feed.
Same story here 😊. Ketovore/ mostly carnivore now and feeling better than I have in a long time. Trying all the things to keep the progression at bay. ❤
@@amierikke6225I am just learning about the lipedema. I am 62 and I feel exactly the same the same. My friends say I should feel Vindicated but I feel a little resentful and sad. I am hoping that will change as I begin this process into caring for my body and self.
Thank you for sharing that the scale might not reflect what is happening in the body. Yesterday I was weighed at the doctor’s office and it was the same number as 3 months ago. I wanted to cry it was so humiliating. However, 3 months ago I wore a size 38G bra, 18 pants, and a 1X shirt. Yesterday I was wearing a size 34G bra (loose), size 14 pants, and a size L shirt (loose). Bless you for caring about people like me.
on my 5 year keto journey I have regularly eaten these fruits: berries (approx 1/4 cup a day of blueberries or strawberries or raspberries or blackberries), lemon, lime, avocado, cucumber, tomato, bell pepper (yes, those are all scientifically classified as fruit)
@alanacreates those are all great keto options in moderation! I found that berries taste heavenly sweet after being off sugar for so long. Unfortunately I'm learning that nightshades, including peppers and tomatoes, can give me some inflammation :(
I had first long limb gastric bypass due to lower bk facet joints deterioration and cldn't walk. Then got lymphatic cancer in 2011 and have been in remission. I was diag. With a small bowels infection Sebo and have been reading on gut health. I tried Carnivore but had a hard time with bowel movements without the veggies and it was very boring. I need several small meals a day but it is hard for me as bad habits are hard to get rid of. I am 76 and dislike my legs and arms. No more surgery. I just want to be able to move around better. My spine is also injured and I have brain injuries also. So I think the Fiid Sensitivity test is a good idea. Your right, one size doesn't fit all. Haven't found my nitch yet. Would like to chat with another woman who has had weight loss surgery and any success with weight loss. Thank you. Judylynn
Thank you for taking the time for answering our questions. I did fill out your questionnaire. I found your info really helpful . I have been dancing around Keto for eons , now my beloved daughter with Down Syndrome was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes so no more messing around. I am so grateful for your easygoing style. I hope to have both of us on a healthy path . I use organic grass fed Tallow for cooking, it allows whatever you are cooking to taste so delicious… thank you so much again!!
Thank you Rebekah for sharing your experience and information. I was never medically diagnosed with lipedema but the more I learn about it, there is no doubt that I do have it. And I agree with you and now it makes more sense than ever why diets never worked for me until I stumbled upon the keto and carnivore diet. They are the only diets that i see my body react to, But unfortunately I don't see that the adipose clumps really go away and maybe the only way to intervene on them is surgically. I currently take supplements to help the lymphatic system which I see help with heaviness and pain And I just hope that by combining food, supplements, dry brushing, vibrating plate it doesn't get worse over time...
there are compression leggings [ on amazon and elsewhere] that help as well. there are medical grade and also much more comfortable ‘normal’. compression leggings WITH POCKETS! and patterns. if you add those to everything you’re doing, they will help, tho’ ultimately yes, surgery is the only treatment that buys time by removing enough so that it’s a reset. just had the front of my thighs done and i can see my KNEECAPS for the first time in decades.
I went to 5 doctors in my town before finding one who even knew, or wanted to know, what lipedema was. She was a vascular specialist. She ordered me automatic pressure garments for my legs. I must be on the machine 2 hours a day total with 6 hours between each 1 hour session. I must have had lymphedema, too, because my legs have gotten smaller than I ever thought possible. I'm praying my results get even better over time, so I won't need surgery. The only thing I would change is that instead of just the legs, I wish I would have asked for the pants because I have such large hips that cause me so much pain.
Monk fruit doesn't spike your insulin. I use Monk fruit and erythrotol mixture that my grocery store carries. What I used for two weeks to get over the sugar cravings in the evening was a cup of coffee with a small piece of 90% cocao bar (Lindt) tbls of butter, heavy cream and a tsp of monk fruit. Tastes like hot chocolate and really helped me alot.
@@Kwize652 No, I don't have diabetes. I don't use sweeteners except occasionally the Monk fruit one. I am trying to lose weight and sweeteners just make it harder and they are extremely toxic.
I ended up having weight loss surgery not knowing I had this condition. Needless to say my legs did not go down but got bigger. I had many sad moments wondering why others lost the weight and I did not. Got diagnosed last year for lipedema
Same thing happened to me. It was very frustrating and upsetting. And now I deal with battling making sure I get enough vitamins because of the malabsorption.
Hello Rebekah, you look well 😊 😘 sending you big virtual hugs and cuddles xx. I have never done Keto. I just eat everything in moderation and follow 80/20 rule.. Thank you very much for your video. The first time I did Keto, I lost weight and the pain in my legs disappeared 95%. But I wanted to stop keto for 2 months, and my pain returned and I regained more weight that I had lost. I went back to keto but unfortunately, the pain no longer wants to go away and there is no weight loss. But ,I style stay on keto.😊

I have a sensitivity to chicken eggs & dairy but was told by chiropractor/ nutritionist that I can have Duck eggs, goat milk & goat cheese. They are a great alternative. Maybe give them a try, see how it goes. Thanks.
Egg whites are high in histamines. Egg yolks don't have histamine. The yolk is where almost all of the extraordinary nutrition resides. This is information for chicken eggs. Its probably the same for duck eggs. SO, it matters whether you have an actual ALLERGY to chicken eggs or you are reacting to HISTAMINES in the egg white. If you are allergic to chicken eggs, confirmed by an allergist, definitely try duck eggs. I hear they are delicious! But some people are allergic to duck eggs, but not to chicken eggs. You only know by trying... You might look up Histamine Intolerance if you have distress after eating certain foods. Could help you navigate choosing items for your diet. Also, look up MCAS [Mast Cell Activation Syndrome] -- which is the next level above Histamine Intolerance. Good luck.
P.S. If you can eat egg yolks, you can use them in many creative ways. Delicious as a sauce on steaks, hamburgers and other meats and seafood. You can make your own mayonnaise with melted butter [no seed oils -- they are inflammatory]. Just find a mayonnaise recipe that asks for egg yolks, not whole eggs. Yum. Mayonnaise solves so many problems! You can make Bernaise sauce. So delicious.
P.P.S. : MCAS does occur relatively frequently in Lipedema patients. And, you can thicken cooking juices from meat into a sauce or gravy by beating egg yolks into the juices. But you must temper the eggs first by whisking in a small amount of hot juices into the egg yolks. Yes, French cooking. But worth learning if you want to avoid carbs, flour, corn starch. Just google "tempering eggs." Should also be lots of RUclips videos.
I agree with your diet! I also do Keto/carnivore and avoid seed oils, especially soy! I’m down 45 pounds and have hit a stall. I’ve heard so many people say that dairy is an issue for them with lipedema. I love cheese, but I think I’m going to have to kick it to the curb. Also, wondering if you’ve ever collaborated with Siobhan Huggins? She’s done a lot with lipedema and recently did a video with Dr Ken Berry. Great info!
@whitninapier9400 I'm glad to hear that you had success with keto! I never thought I'd be able to give up dairy - I was big into heavy cream, cheese, etc. I recommend trying an elimination diet for at least a month. Then add some back in and you'll really quickly know what it does to you. I do know of Siobhan Huggin's work but we've never met - another great source of information ♥
Have you photos of before and after ? I believe my grandmother actually died with this...and my mother has been told (for decades) she has lymphedema . She has been given so many diuretics and now has massive kidney stones...and her legs remain the same. I believe she has been misdiagnosed since any early age. My grandmother was in agony. I remember her massive legs and her extreme discomfit. The only thing which doesn't fit too well...is bruising. I can't recall either having much bruising ? They are not 'fat' people, with very slim upper halves and their legs are too 'straight with weight' if I was to describe it.
I've been doing keto for 3 weeks and may try getting away from dairy now as well. I lost 7 lbs (I need to lose 100) and it stalled out already. I am in so much pain from the top of my legs down and I can barely walk today. Im DESPERATE for relief from the swelling and pain. 😢 I have MS, Fibromyalgia, and now prediabetic. Its got to stop. I have a family and home to take care of, alone. Too many responsibilities so I HAVE to get control of this.
@honeybee6154 sending big hugs! Be gentle with yourself as you start keto. If it helps to have some dairy do it. You have plenty of time to refine things once you get into ketosis and fat-adapted. Given your complex situation you might benefit from working with a nutritionist who understands lipedema. If you need suggestions on finding one send me an email through SturdyWoman.com and I can give you some ideas. Stay strong and keep investing in yourself. You're worth it!
@@sarahb112 I'll check her out. Thanks! I'm down 21 lbs now. Mighty slow, but it's progress. I've noted significantly less musculoskeletal pain on keto.
Look into histamine intolerance also known as many cell activation syndrome. I am following keto and added low histamine diet. Huge difference for my lymphedema.
Thanks, this is really great info. Im okay on low carb for now but if I hit a wall with the lipedema weight loss (which I probably will), I'll definately keep keto in my back pocket as a way to switch things up. P.S. as an Aussie, Ive always wondered what root beer tastes like. Cheers
I did keto for over two years and I was frankly miserable the whole time. I had great results (in terms of weight loss), but the whole time my mental state was just awful. I then transitioned to no wheat, no potatoes, just brown rice, whole grains (rye, barley, buckwheat) and it was a LOT better (basically mediterranean diet). Due to the keto, I had developed a b12 deficiency anemia and am severely D vitamin deficient. At the moment, I'm eating normally, avoiding only processed foods and sugar, taking high doses of B12, vit D, zinc and magnesium and I can function so much better, no food sensitivities, BUT the weight is back. I have no intention of returning to keto, the depression is too much for me, and I'm wondering if anyone else has any success with any other method of eating?
@Trilingualeks it sounds like you might benefit from working with a lipedema-informed nutritionist to get to the bottom of what is going on. Send me an email through SturdyWoman.com if you want help finding someone. The key seems to be finding and getting rid of everything that gives you inflammation. Keto works for some of us, but people also have success on versions of Paleo and the Rare Adipose Disorder (RAD) diet.
I follow a german person on instagram who got lost her lipedema legs without eating keto. And I heard from a couple more people that it's possible. Maybe not for everyone, but we have to figure it out somehow.
Those food sensitivity tests are not accurate! They can react to foods you’ve most recently eaten. It is better to just do an elimination diet for a month or 2 and then add only one food back for a week or two and see how you react.
@samanthakitch4736 you are 100% right that recommendations should be paired with an elimination diet. However, the tests can provide a nice starting point for people who are unsure where to start exploring possible sensitivities. They are also a nice option for those who are uninsured, have limited access to health care, or don't have a supportive provider.
When doing keto, high fat, what types of fat because fat is an inflammatory contributor. Also meats, am told to limit, eat organic grass fed meat due to the regular meat that has more omega 6 fats. Do you have an example for what you eat in a week?
How do you get your dr to understand the difference between lipedema and lymphodema? Because I literally left my dr shaking I was so mad last week and got into a loud conversation where I was accused of being fatter than ever (Id lost 100 pounds in 2 years) told my weight is my fault because I never listen to my drs (because I dont take medication, Im allergic to most of them) and told that it isnt possible for anyone... ever... eeevvvverrrrrrr to eat less than 2k per day calories and not lose weight. Im... so burnt out on even going to try to get help. High protein keto has helped me, but I have to eat a lot of whole fat homemade greej yogurt to see any improvement in recovery, let alone weight loss. Grains dont seem to bother me if I make them myself, but Im hypoglycemic and not hyper. I just cant have a lot or regularly.
Have you heard there’s more success with keto than carnivore? I’ve been on carnivore for 2 months, and some success, but not weight loss yet. Suggestions?
@joelsvision not necessarily! Everybody's body is different and you may have to experiment to figure out what your likes and how you feel best. Expect your body to go through a healing stage that can take a few months. Importantly, remember that the scale lies. I didn't weigh myself for months when I first started but I DID take pictures and measure myself. You can see how that went in my before and after video here: ruclips.net/video/MwK_aUNbG-Y/видео.html Keep up the good work!
Food prices seem to be outrageous everywhere @rosaliecahoo425! One of my favorite low-cost meats is bone-in skin-on chicken thighs. They give you a lot of bang for your money. I hear you though! One thing to keep in mind is you will find that the longer you do keto the smaller your appetite gets and the less food you end up buying in general. Good luck! ♥
The Whole30 protocol provides a great framework for assessing your body’s response to different foods. (It pulls together so many of the studies into a 30-60 day period of assessment).
Thank you for sharing your experience. I am a vegetarian who eats eggs and dairy so find keto very hard as not al lot of protein choices. Also after a DNA test, it appears my body type is not good to have high fat What other diets can help with lipedema?

Stevia is not good at all. Anything diet. It is better to eat sugar than diet. A proven fact. So you have done amazing accomplish me ent. I suffer from 53 years of lymphodema. Osteomyelitis doctors only see it only as far or a fatty liver. I once gained 24 lbs from 10 pm to 8 am. In Jan 2002 I gained 55 IBS in 23 days. I associated it with not letting a serious setback bring me to a depression. Al also eating Cheetos MSG I was not aware of. Somehow the extraction from seaweed and injection into food has a staggering result. Well I attribute the absorption to psychological reaction.

Environmentally and ethically meat isnt the way to go, so thats not a choice i will make. and im allergic to quite a few fruit and veg (uncooked). So thats a complication for me.
Be careful with Keto if you have kidney problems. TL&DR: Just… be careful with keto. Start eating carbs if you are trying to become pregnant or think you may be pregnant. Don’t start it if you have any markers of kidney function problems, and definitely track those markers carefully if you are on keto diets. My story: I have had a whole journey with PCOS and Celiac disease being part of my picture. I tried Atkins (this was in the early 90’s) which is how I discovered the celiac spite of being obese and ridiculously unable to lose weight in spite of severe calorie restriction and at least 90 minutes a day of intensive exercise. Once I started Atkins induction I lost 60lbs in three months, most of which was inflammation. Brain fog cleared, periods came back, everything got better. Sort of. I had a hard time getting myself to consume more than about 900 calories a day. I was tracking calories and carefully kept my intake in the range of 1600-2000, but I was more or less force feeding myself. Also, I was constantly ANGRY and had real difficulty sleeping due to constant agitation. As I progressed with the Atkins program adding back vegetables and low-GI foods, everything normalized. I ended up in the Zone diet range, with a balance of macronutrients, high soluble fiber, and treating grains and sugar as condiments, not the focus of any meal. That has suited me well for years. Along my journey I got pregnant, and low carb diets are terrible for pregnant women, particularly in early pregnancy. Morning sickness and its big brother hyperemesis are cause by the placenta detecting low blood glucose levels. (There is lots of science on this- I can get citations if anyone cares. Waking up to crackers and ginger ale turns out to be great advice!!) No one knew this in the 90’s, so I ended up having five ER visits and two hospital admissions for severe dehydration before getting sent home with a central iv line, dextrose bags, and instructions to stop eating or drinking anything at all for at least 30 days. This permanently damaged my kidneys.
I understand that you can lose a lot of weight doing keto, but it's concerning that the diet has been ranked worst for heart health. Keto diets more than double the risk of serious heart problems. Fiber, which keto is lacking, is important for so many things, including the gut microbiome. I know people who do keto say they feel great, etc. but not much is known about its long-term effects. From everything I've read, it's not meant to be a long-term diet. There are safer ways to lose weight than keto.❤️
I was told that Keto should not be done long term when I was told that I had Lipedema.. If you have heart disease or any other heart conditions, than Keto is not advisable but everyone has to find out what works for them, one size does not fit all. Sending hugs to everyone in our community x
I've been on keto for 3 years. I had an ultrasound by a cardiologist who said that my ultrasound was the best she's seen in a long time. I also no longer have non alcoholic fatty liver. That is my experience.
Everything that you wrote is not accurate although it can be seen in Legacy Media. Don't take anyone's word for it do your own research. You seem very articulate and caring.

Exactly the same for me....
My knees and my arms are just not a normal shape...
Tallow is a great natural fat to cook with @asuncionhatch9644! Are you are right that it tastes delicious. Big hugs to you and your daughter 🤗💗
Stay strong, @amonterov! It sounds like you are doing a great job taking care of yourself. Keep it up 💕
there are compression leggings [ on amazon and elsewhere] that help as well. there are medical grade and also much more comfortable ‘normal’. compression leggings WITH POCKETS! and patterns. if you add those to everything you’re doing, they will help, tho’ ultimately yes, surgery is the only treatment that buys time by removing enough so that it’s a reset.
just had the front of my thighs done and i can see my KNEECAPS for the first time in decades.
@@grayfae3How l I ng does the surgery last?
What supplements do you take?
Good to know because I use monkfruit too. I'm definitely going to give your drink a try. Cheers.
Sounds delicious, @crabbiecakes5663! Thanks for sharing ❤
Do you have diabetes? I left all sweeteners as I’m trying to reverse diabetes.
@@Kwize652 No, I don't have diabetes. I don't use sweeteners except occasionally the Monk fruit one. I am trying to lose weight and sweeteners just make it harder and they are extremely toxic.
Be careful with monkfruit. Several Carnivore MD proponents talk about this. (Dr. Ken Berry, Dr. Chaffee, etc.)
Yay! I am going to try this, only because I have a lot of allergies to eggs and dairy, when I was a kid, growing up. Thank you for sharing!
I have a sensitivity to chicken eggs & dairy but was told by chiropractor/ nutritionist that I can have Duck eggs, goat milk & goat cheese. They are a great alternative. Maybe give them a try, see how it goes. Thanks.
What do eggs do to you? Not sure what kind of sensitivities to look for.
Great info!
Eat goat cheese, bleu cheeses, fermented cheeses. 😊
@whitninapier9400 I'm glad to hear that you had success with keto! I never thought I'd be able to give up dairy - I was big into heavy cream, cheese, etc. I recommend trying an elimination diet for at least a month.

I talked to my Dr and we cant find anyb lab in KS that will do a food sensitivity test🤨 They do only food allergies test

Isnt keto hard on your liver and kidneys?

I like alternate day fasting because I don't like looking at the clock, but I've also recently done a few 3-day fasts which gave good results. I certainly don't do it all the time and take breaks, particularly during stressful periods. Make sure you spend a good amount of time getting fat adapted through keto before giving it a try.

My story:
I have had a whole journey with PCOS and Celiac disease being part of my picture.
😢😢😢
Omg why do you stay with that dr?you can chane drs!
