Hello metalheads [Metalheads' Journey] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome [BACK] to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This music video is the 3rd single released in advance from their upcoming studio album Yesterwynde (2024), featuring Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " For an extended set of suggestion (with links), I posted 2 huge comments in the community tab in my main YT channel: www.youtube.com/@gabriel.bardac/community
Funny the one guy directly labeled them into powermetal and signed them off, just because someone said the word, and even though he then heard the song. You cannot put Nightwish under any genre, because they cover almost all of the genres.
Another outstanding work by the "symphonic metal" band, Nightwish. This would be a killer live. The segment at the end is by multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley on the Uilleann pipes (Irish pipes). He will also be playing other instruments on the track including guitar. He is a permanent member of Nightwish
One of the best song of Nightwish for sure it's there in the top with Ghost Love Score and Poet and the Pendulum what a masterpiece of the song pure Gold.
" you can't play this live" could easily end up being answered by NW similar to Troy Donockley (song + the Uileann bagpipes) answering to a journalist's query "is there anything you can't play? " with "ice hockey".
The band definitely evolved throughout the 28 years of their existence. Floor Jansen is a force of nature and Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboardist and composer of it all, has no issues at all with Floor going for a solo career besides Nightwish. Floor stated over and over that Nightwish always comes first. This song deals with 'the rollercoaster' of life were all on. The Islands represent situations and persons we meet on our voyage. It is a continuation on the previous album (Human # Nature) where Tuomas comments on various kinds of human behaviour.
exactly what I was thinking.... Fun to see people say... never ever are they doing it live...and we as the army show up with examples of fuck yeah... that's what they do :D
"You can't play this live", well, they did play way more complex songs live before. Check out "The greatest show on earth" live from Tampere or Wembley. You'll see how perfect they are live.
When they finally return to playing live, I can guarantee that Troy will be there playing the Uillean pipes. It's also definitely Floor Jansen on vocals (who else could it be with a voice like that?).
One of the Best songs I've heard in years and one of the best songs by Nightwish........ Yes that's Floor and those Uilleann Pipes at the end by band member Troy Donockley and yes they'll play that live and it'll be even better .There are elements of power metal but they are not a power metal band , Symphonic Metal is what they are and no one does it better .
I wonder why the Scottish highland pipes get all the attention when the Irish uillean pipes are to me just superior in every way lol - more lyrical, less abrasive, better at conveying melody and texture. Seems like the highland pipes are often featured in TV/movies for 2 reasons: 1. there's a funeral/wedding/ceremony 2. as a gimmick for a joke lol
@@ImmortalDecember There are many variations of bagpipes throughout Europe, practically every population where there were traditionally sheep breeders has a bagpipe among the traditional instruments - in the Balkans for sure. Most of them are constructively similar to the Scottish one, with a pipe in the upper part where the air is blown. I think this is the explanation of the popularity of the Scottish bagpipe, because the Irish bagpipe has a unique constructive solution, with the side bag operated by the elbow.
@@gabriel.bardac wow, a reply from General Gabriel himself! Thanks for the info - I didn't know about the many variations of bagpipes besides the Scottish and Irish ones. My own bias of their beautiful usage and placement in Nightwish just led to my assumption than the Irish ones have the superior configuration as the "king of pipes" lol. This may also be my favourite performance from Troy on the pipes in any Nightwish song.
They were considered a power metal band when Wishmaster was produced, but these days they're considered symphonic metal though they can be thought of as a genre in their own right. They perform live more complex songs than this one. Try "Greatest Show on Earth" if you want to see a massive, complex song performed live.

Thanks for sharing your reaction to a song that for me explores themes of solitude, self-discovery, and the existential journey through life's trials. The imagery of the ocean, islands, and mariners reflects a metaphorical exploration of the human experience with other individuals. The song captures the essence of navigating life’s uncertainties and finding one's place in a vast, often unwelcoming world. It suggests a longing for connection and understanding while grappling with the weight of past experiences and the isolation they can bring.
Thank you for your reaction. Nightwish is a genre of its own: mainly symphonic metal, sometimes a little bit of power or even trash metal (listen to Master Passion Greed), influences of classical music, movie soundtracks, folk, pop and even jazz/blues. With every song they can surprise you; the words spoken most by reactors are "I did not expect this". Nightwish's members are six highly talented artists who love what they are doing, each other and their fans. No egos on stage, just five brothers and one sister playing fantastic music and having a lot of fun on stage. If you want to go on with Nightwish it would be best to follow Gabriel Bardac's list. He is the "general" of the Nightwish Army (we call him general, he does not).
Nightwish is their own genre and no other band comes close to the level they are at. ❤ Never, in the history of music entertainment, have a set of skills and talent collided in such powerful manner. Tuomas is a true genius as a composer and with lyrics.
Excellent reaction guys. Unlike other four handed reactions you didn’t talk all at once and gave the music some air time. Yes, the last part was bagpipes. They are called uilleann pipes and are mostly played in Ireland. If and when they go back on tour (they are currently taking a break) they could easily do this live. If you like the heavier stuff then you should react to “Yours Is An Empty Hope” live from Mexico City. Floor Jansen our 6’1” vocal beast brings it!
Four Finns one Dutch and one English incredible band, they could definitely do this live Floors voice will do anything. Troy from the Uk plays the Uilleann pipes, which feature heavily in a lot of their songs. Great reaction. It is definitely Floor. 🇬🇧
Tuomas said in some interview that Floor is the last singer of Nightwish. In other words if Floor leave the band it's end of Nightwish. Yes I like it but it isn't best ever but it's good.
How will they perform this live you asked? To perfection. I've seen so many concerts of Tool, DT, Metallica and although they always pumped me up during my 20's/30's, but nothing comes close to any of the 8 NW concerts I've seen. You come out of the venue completely drained of emotions
@@elsenm3965 this is right. I expect them to tour in 2026 ( their 30est anniversary).. That would be my first NW concert. I only discovered them 1 year ago.

Hello Metalheads" Journey. Welcome back to our beloved Nightwish. This composition once again demonstrates the genius that is Tuomas Holopainen. I loved every movement of this beautiful song. Thank you for this reaction. All the best from Phoenix.
Wishmaster featured the first vocalist Tarja Turunen who was predominantly operatic. Sacked in 2005. Then pop singer Anette Olzon 2007-2012. Then Floor to the present who can sing everything by both previous plus more. Final instrument was Uilleann (elbow) Irish pipes.

"Yansen". She has developed a concurrent solo career, yes. Opened for Metallica. Consistently sells out her concerts. Also manages the family farm and two little girls. Exceptional human being.
Nightwish is not a power metal band. If you really want to put them in a box it would be symphonic metal, but honestly they are a genre of their own and each song is different. They had 600 tracks of orchestra just for this song, all recorded in Abbey Road, London.
Night Wish's compositions contain sounds and elements drawn from a 1,000 years of our cultural evolution, passionately rapped in today's metal and electronic technology. Much of the world is trash, but this is a good time to live in for the music and art.
Welcome to symphonic metal! With indeed some power metal influences and also Celtic influences. Tuomas (keyboard) is the mastermind who writes all music for the band and the orchestra, and all lyrics. And very different from Floor's solo album that is closer to pop music.
Floor Jansen is still their lead vocalist. This is not power metal it's symphonic metal. Anyway they are great live you can watch Ghost Love score live 2013 and any other song from that concert.
The choirs and orchestras come off a backing track, except some things that Tuomas plays on his keyboard. The Uilleann pipes will be live, Floor will slay those notes or even better them live. Nightwish fans have no worries about the execution. The rest of the band is equally top notch. It will be better than in studio.

The pipes at the end are called Uilleanne Pipes. They are an Irish bagpipe.🎸🤘The music tells the story of life with all the ups and downs.🎸🤘
Yesterwynde notYesterwind lol.still love your reaction 🤘
Nice t-shirt with the flower and skull! What is it?
It’s from a company called Rokfit
Highly reccomend releases by the dark element
😍❤🤘🤘🤘
Floor Jansen is still their lead vocalist. This is not power metal it's symphonic metal. Anyway they are great live you can watch Ghost Love score live 2013 and any other song from that concert.
The choirs and orchestras come off a backing track, except some things that Tuomas plays on his keyboard. The Uilleann pipes will be live, Floor will slay those notes or even better them live. Nightwish fans have no worries about the execution. The rest of the band is equally top notch. It will be better than in studio.
Love your reaction, althoug it's weird having people refere to Nightwish as Powermetal.....
Abselutly..juka the best drummer
Jukka hasn't been drumming for nightwish for almost 10 years.
Byw they are not touring for this album sadly
This is typical NW fare. They do even more complex songs than this live.
How come American's can't spell .Its Yesterday Wynde. Not Yes
