Caught in a Storm - 4 days solo bushcraft, camping in heavy rain, portable wood stove, canvas tent

- Got caught in a crazy storm on the last days of my winter bushcraft camping trip. Storm Ciara had passed the previous week or so. I was eager to get out but little did I know storm Dennis was on its way. When the storm arrived, I was already deep in the forest off trail for 2 days with lots of rain but no crazy winds. I opted to set my second camp on a raised part of a lake. No trees windward from me, just water, but also no shelter from the 70 mph winds (110 km/h). With the conical shape of my shelter and past experiences with my bigger tipi tent in previous storms, I felt optimistic that it would be ok in the wind.
First night of the storm I skipped dinner and held tight waiting for the worst part of it to pass. I had my stove with me and decided to put it to the test anyway, hoping the thing wouldn't fill the shelter with smoke or break. Impressively it did not, it kept me warm and cozy inside while the madness was picking up strength outside, the worst of it during the night. Crazy experience, but I must say I enjoyed it tremendously. The next day was spent gathering wood and cooking some nice food even though the storm was still lingering. New videos every week, thanks for watching! - Ric
OBS: If you want to practice unnecessary high impact bushcraft activities like shelter / fort building, cut living or dead standing trees, damage the nature in any form in Scandinavia, you need to have Landowner permission or own the land. Always observe local fire prohibitions and forecasts to prevent forest fires. Finally, don’t be a twat, always be respectful of the forest and it’s inhabitants, leave no trace.

Q&A
Where is this?
- Scandinavia
Can you share the location?
- No. Landowners don't want me too. You need permission to do some of the thing I do in the video.
Where did you get the food?
- supermarket wilderness
Where did the chicken come from?
- from an egg
Why don't you hunt your own food?
- plenty of dead meat in the supermarket. I prefer to observe the little wild life that is left,
and hunt if I really need to. But not for a youtube video.
How do you keep your food from spoiling?
- it’s freezing cold, the whole place is a fridge/freezer
Do you have a filming crew?
- no
Have you met bigfoot?
- no
Do wild life bother you?
- not if I don't bother them
What wild animals do you have in that country?
- wild boar, moose, linx, fox, hares, deers, squirrels, wolves, brown bears, martens, badgers, hedgehogs, reign deers, eagles, Ravens, owls etc..
Do you sell your paintings?
- Yes, link above
Who else is watching this before bed?
🤦who said I m watching ??!
Me
Yup. Its help me to sleep better, dont know why?
H-HOW DID YOU KNOW?! o_o
Hahaha
I imagine that he put a lot of effort to make this film during his journey. And the sound is great. Thanks to no BGM.
*_Hard to believe that such a man has truly departed from this world so soon. But he is forever immortalized through his love and work of bushcraft as he demonstrates it in these videos. Always there. Never forgotten. Traveling far but close by._*
Does someone know what happened to him?😢
I've always enjoyed watching his videos since I stumbled upon his channel .
I always saw my late dad when I watched him in the wilderness, cuz he also liked the nature, fishing etc.
@@mihaigeanta5110 He passed away a couple years ago. Cancer.
that's why I haven't seen him for a long time, may he be at peace in heaven

When I was depressed I would watch Naguelero and it would be very comforting and calming; he became a "friend"

The quality and realism of that painting blew me away. Just the painting alone could have made a good RUclips episode.
It really is an absolutely gorgeous painting. He should sell it.
🤦♂️🙄
Not trying to be a jerk...it's an okay impressionist painting.
Bob Ross would be proud
@@dan-stanleycup3524 well let's see some of your artwork then "Micheal angelo"...
I love how you walked literally half a mile, set a camera down, walked back, and then walked back towards the camera. That deserves more respect then anything!
And how u notice that hhhhhhhh
Unless there is a next person moving the camera 23:24 . Great video though :)
or maybe that's just an editing... ;)
I was thinking the same, that's hard work right there
I was thinking the same, he put a lot of effort on these videos
In 2018 I was bored with daily life. I bought a bicycle and tent, put in in a box, and flew from the UK to New York. Over the next 100 days, I cycled across the United States where I wild camped all along the way. Honestly, just sitting in the tent, at night, all alone with the cayotes howling around me, listening to the peace, it is to this day the greatest experience I have ever felt. We all need nature.
well done mate
@Pixies Ostrich Duster I would pick garages or Wallmart as my go-to camp in an urban environment. However, I pretty much always cycled to the outskirts. Truck stops were good too, especially Loves. Downside - the trucks have their engines running overnight and that can keep you awake. Honestly, you can find spots anywhere. Also, people randomly offer to host you - pretty much every other day someone offers. And finally, an app called 'Warmshowers'. Amazing at finding hosts if you fancy getting washed. I would also camp behind churches.
that was nice and I am looking forward to experiencing it myself
@Pixies Ostrich Duster same
That's wicked dude, it's what I want to do someday when life allows. Did you spend much time planning or just go for it?
Ric, I know you did t think you’d have this kind of impact on people but I still find so much peace in your videos. We miss you sir, rest well..

I’m dealing with severe depression and find comfort in these videos. I’m a very alone person . But somehow I appreciate how you don’t talk over the video at all. I’m picking up bushcraft as a hobby now thanks to you and will be using your techniques. Amazing painting skills also.
Thank you! I hope this video makes you feel less alone somehow. take care and hang in there!

Hi man, where do you live?
I hear you sister I. understand you well because I have/had it the same way as you. Getting out into nature is the best medicine for so many things. Best wishes.
Its so nice to take a break from people thinking they need to constantly talk. Just listening to nature is so calming and peaceful. Too much unnecessary noise around us daily
totalmente cierto.. el Serhumano busca y desea la Paz.
The painting was amazing, fading the painting into the real live setting was even more amazing.
Thank you, it worked out nice on this one

The fact that that stove folds down to such a small portable size is one thing-but the chimney solution blows me away how it turns itself into a small chimney for easy transporting.
Outstanding.

I'm sitting here stressing over the recent loss of my father, and concerned of events transpiring around us...
I ran across and watched this video, and suddenly life becomes a little bit more bearable... a little bit brighter.
Sir, you're more than just a Bush crafter or painter, you know that don't you? For me you've been a little bit of light. Thank you.
Sorry for your loss. Stay strong and take care☀️
I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your Pop. I lost mine 2 years ago on 6/20/2018 and they say it gets easier... bullshit, it's harder
Sorry for your loss. You should go in the woods and camp a little, it can clear your mind.
Rip to your daddy
Lost my mom a month ago to cancer. She was a Painter. This comment hit home.
Brother Ric Nagualero, sure am going to miss you. Even though I can't venture into the woods like I used to.. I always resorted to your channel and some how I could escape the pressurized life and problems as if it was me instead of you doing all the camping and outdoor cooking. Thanks for your love of the wild and solitude.. the deep woods and nature is REALLY going to miss you!

Very sad... was in this trip he got a cough and start suffering for one year, then death. 😔
This video is quality. Doesn't matter where i look at, i see quality. A piece of art. A very special little place in the internet... Thank you!

Alright, so this video pops up... and I'm noticing... the lush dense forest, proper camera angles, the choices made in equipment/clothing, the textures, colors and materials of equip/clothes... then old boy busts out a SWEET painting of the camp! Whole next level RUclips right here folks.
Ah Mah Goodness!! He just busted out a whole chicken!!
When I saw the painting is when I hit the subscribe button
This bloke went camping for 4 days on his own in the wilderness, painted a masterpiece, made some kebab skewers and spitroasted a chicken. That's a level of manliness one can only aspire to.

& not no wife or kids to bother him causing him stress & high blood pressure, just peace & tranquility with no bother in the world moving at your own pace & terms no bills no tax just you & the smoothness sounds of Mother Nature. Must be so nice at midnight & early in the morning the sounds.
Rest In Peace brother you will be greatly missed. You helped me so much I will never forget your videos .
he is still alive
For me this is the most perfect camping weather! The sound and feel of the rain, the comfort of being inside a tarp with a fire and a few candles burning. The simplicity is just beautiful!
thanks!
Think about how many times this guy has to go back for the camera just to get one shot
Makes you appreciate the effort even more.
maybe he aint alone and the camera man is always out of the shot despite the title saying solo lmao
Plot twist: There were two guys
plot twist: it is the forest of cameras
I always think about that. And when people do it in busy public places I always worry that someone will steal the camera
Ingenious how the flue can be rolled up like that, and the rest folded into such a small package..
yes, its very handy
I’m glad this channel is still up. Nagualero will live forever!!!!!!! I get a lot out out of his his paintings and his love of cooking and camping. Thank you for keeping his memory alive. He was a great man. So greatfull.
Your painting is absolutely stunningly beautiful.

I agree! How long does it take for you to paint them?
I know, thought...packed a paint kit too?
about 4 hours on this one
Nagualero I love it and thank you so much for sharing. Definitely Beautiful
The man never said 1 word of dialog and this is better then over 99% of 2020 released Hollywood big budget movies.
How could there be a dialog when he is on his own? 🤔
When I'm in the jungle here on my own, I am always talking to myself, and if I fall or something, I really let it fly

Even though being somewhat of a shut-in, I've always loved walking through forests. However, only after watching this video and seeing how many different shades of green there were, I actually started paying attention to the details. Pretty much every time I see or walk through a forest these days I can't stop admiring the colour scheme. Thanks for making this video. It really opened my eyes!

No silly commentary. Just survival and nature. Brilliant
This isn't survival, right ?! Bringing cheese, bacon and paprika, a space age tent, sleeping bag and gloves. Only thing 'real' is lighting the fire not with a lighter but with some space age sparkling thingy. Don't get me wrong, I super like what he does, but this seems in no way survival
Rombbb it’s modern survival
How is this "brilliant" ??? You people get too goofy with commenting..
Rombbb u r right..I appreciate you 👍🏻
I’m thinking “where did he get that chimney from?”.... Then I’m like “OMG that’s the coolest chimney I’ve ever seen!”.
Lovely painting!
MrJoshuaUK I saw the same and found it at $500 😨
That painting was awesome. And the transition from the painting into reality ... WOW! This made me feel so relaxed. I'm jealous. I know it had to be distracting to your zen to set up cameras from afar and do al of that, but it certainly made for a relaxing video for me. The lack of talking and just hearing and seeing nature ... MAGNIFICENT. You sacrificed your own tranquility for mine. Thank you.
Life dosnt get any better than this, alone,no distractions, food, fresh air and most important..freedom👍
I want to go camping now. Maybe not like this guy, but pitching a tent, starting a fire, and making a meal with it just sounds so awesome right now.

i can feel these rain drops dripping on my soul and washing away my worries and sorrows.
there is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
there is a rapture on the lonely shore,
there is society,
where none intrudes,
by the deep sea,
and music in its roar,
i love not man the less,
but nature more.
Beautiful!!!

Beautiful, I come back to watch this often. Your impact is still felt, Ric. Rest in peace.
what do you mean, rest in peace? did he die? 😰
If you're prepared, camping through a storm is one of the most fun experiences....when I was younger, winter camping in the ADK Mtns with my Father was one of my favorite things.
It's funny, when I first started watching this video I got a little annoyed because the guy wasn't talking. But as I sat and watched I felt myself slowly surrender to the sounds of nature. And by the end of the video I felt so calm and peaceful that I didn't want it to end. I realized just how noisy my daily life can be and how we humans never stop thinking and talking! - I looked over at my cat and he was just sitting there too. Not talking, not worrying, nothing, just 'being'.... I learned something about myself tonight. Wonder if anybody else felt this way. - Peace, and thank you for this wonderfully artful video. Well done. :)
Thank you! Great introspective thoughts. That’s why I don’t talk in most videos. I get to feel calm and appreciate the sounds i came to hear, instead of hearing myself yapping. That’s the experience I want to share. 🙂
@@NagualeroArt I often think it would be great if there were two like-minded individuals like yourself who could take off into the wilds with one guy doing the trekking, whilst the other records it - and then vice-versa. You could both get the best of everything and still produce some great footage. Just a thought. But also, great, great videos, thank you!

yes a couple of guys in Canada go pee and they have to explain what the heck there doing. When I watch and LISTEN to this program, I'm there.
I felt the same way! I even started dozing off a little, not cause I was bored, but because I was at PEACE! I don't get much of that with twin 2 year old babies right now...lol
I was super impressed by the performance of your tent...and also with your mad bush crafting skills...but the thing that wow'ed me was your artwork. This was a very enjoyable watch. Thank you!
Thanks for watching👍
Perfect channel for me. No 24/7 talking. Just regular forest sounds and camping. So relaxing. Wouldn't change a single thing about this channel. Hope it never does change.
The painting was outstanding and I LOVE the way he was so attentive to ensure that the fire was completely out.
I think I have found myself a new way of relaxing. Loved watching this. Never thought I'd watch a 47 minute video from beginning to end of someone camping by themselves.
Death was everywhere here, but death was simple, understandable, wise in its own way, even fair: leaves and needles flew from trees and rotted in the ground, broke under a heavy bear paw and bushes dried up, the grass became the prey of a deer, and he himself - a pack of wolves. . Death was closely, inextricably intertwined with life - and therefore not terrible.
You're an excellent chef, craftsman, woodsman, artisan, and oil painter!
Thank you 🙏
But I wish he would wait for coals before cooking. Driving me crazy. Noooooooo! 😮😂😂😂
