Colorado’s Annoyingly Inconsistent Flag

  • There's one thing about Colorado's flag that has bugged me since as far back as I can remember. The letter "C" and it's opening is wildly inconsistent. Sometimes the tips of the "C" touch the white line. Other times it's inside the white line. With every flag you find, the "C" is different.
    So I traveled to Colorado to figure out once and for all, what the heck is going with this "C"?

    You had me all the way through this, even the maths lesson was intriguing!
    (Sorry, as a Brit we have maths vs your math, it’s a thing).
    Great video.

    As a Coloradoan who loves your website and our flag, I thought this was a great video and I whole heartedly agree with your design. Whenever I see a Colorado flag, I look at where the tips of the c align, and every time the tips look best when they match up with the blue and white. I think it's pretty bizzare that the 3 by 5 flag actually works out perfectly for the tip alignment according to the official flag rules. Thanks for this video and keep making beautiful flags!

    Very, very good. Well done. That's it, we need to get deeper into these mathematics and legislation issues.

    Hey brother...
    Amazing video. Loved it. I'm a former Colorado Legislator, and hopefully, after these next elections, I may be one again. I keep a list of "laws to fix", and I'm adding this to it. Great research, and fun topic. I'm sure that we could work together, and correct the ambiguous language. Keep up the good work.

    "C" is 2/3 of the width. Width is vertical. It specifies length from the staff end of the flag. So length is horizontal. "C" is 2/3 the vertical dimension.

    • @FlagsForGood
      @FlagsForGood  7 месяцев назад +3

      That's an interesting take. If they wanted the vertical, they should have said "height". That's confusing if so.

      @@FlagsForGood it says "the proportion of the flag being a width of two-thirds of its length" so it seems that the width is vertical and the length is horizontal...

    I don't understand your rationale regarding upscaling the size from 2:3. It's not even upscaling really, you've just misappropriated the maths to fit an equation that it wasn't meant for. No offense meant, I just get making things so complicated?
    They wrote that legislation to standardize how the DESIGN looks. Seems to me you can make whatever sized flag you like, but the _design shown on the flag_ has already been set in stone. That's exactly the reason why the legislation was written, so everyone can agree exactly how the flag was DESIGNED to look.
    You even pointed out how absurd the vertical banner style flag would look if you misused the math in that way. Why show what a weird and nonsensical way of doing things that would be, when that's exactly how you justified the newer "touching" design that you prefer. And happens to be the one your website sells.

    • @nathanyow3028
      @nathanyow3028 7 месяцев назад

      Thank goodness someone else caught it, loved the video but the legislature said the official flag is 2:3 not 3:5 so no need to worry about upscaling and everything since anything other than a 2:3 is wrong

    • @Drivesfastlikescats
      @Drivesfastlikescats 7 месяцев назад

      @@nathanyow3028 I feel like if you have to format the flag to larger dimension just expand the background and center the design to look right. Doing math to determine what an upscaled version of a flag is "supposed to" look like is ridiculous. Reminds me of an idea me as an autistic kid would have had, it's just a pointless thing to even think about.
      They already standardized the design, just slap it on a bigger flag.
